I used to think Cillian Murphy would be perfect to play David Byrne, but he already decided to be in another movie about life during wartime where a gifted genius unleashes an absolute bomb on the world.

He really would be the perfect actor to play David Byrne! Similarly, Pauly Shore bears an uncanny resemblance to Richard Simmons and was trying to play him in a biopic which would have been hilarious and amazing 😂

I had such an enormous crush on her when I was in high school. She was a terrific bass player. Not in the league of Entwhistle, Geddy Lee, or Bootsie, but she was just very good. Plus, she added a sexiness to the band that they lacked. This was a nerd band, but then here was this blonde pixie who could slap down a beat real hard. She was the band chick you wanted, who was a little weird and dangerous too. She never tried taking the spotlight from Byrne, but they always had her right out front. They knew she was a draw.

Nobody has the gnads to pull something like this off. Today you get one or the other. Either real live music, or already choreographed and pre rehearsed, Superbowl half time performances. You don't get both at the same time. Everything was raw, real, and as live as live music gets with bands like the talking heads. Today, something is going to be synthetic whether its voice tone modulators or pre recorded over dubs, "live."

@@StonyRC Off the top of my head I can rattle artists that are contemparary, or just released new/contemparary music. Kamasi Washington, Beth Gibbons, The Smile, Ka, Billy Woods, Stereo Lab, Marysia Osu, Nala Sinephro, The Cinematic Orchestra, The Bug, Amon Tobin, Floating Points. That's everything from singer songwriter music to experimental jazz, to alternative, to down-tempo, to experimental electronic music. The Cinematic Orchestra has played in philharmonic concert halls, Kamasi Washington released a 3 hour jazz album, Beth Gibbons reflects on mortality and old age, Amon Tobin combines sound foley/jazz/latin, Nala Sinephro plays piano/harp/modular synthesizers. Sure none of these artists are on the radio but Talking Heads were very much in the same boat before the 80's. I purposely included music that will challenge you here. Nostalgia is just a socially acceptable form of depression.

Heads were an amazing band. David Byrne is a sweetheart of a guy off stage. He's helped so many disadvantaged and marginalized youth throughout the years, that like him, struggled with expressing themselves in a healthy, meaningful way. What better way to do so through the magic of music. Talk about overcoming. He has Asperger's and managed to use it in a very unique way. Instead of allowing it to define as a perceived hindrance at the time, he turned it into a superpower and made some of the most unique sounding music I've ever heard. The performances were added bonus 😂❤

Heard of a van that's loaded with weapons
Packed up and ready to go
Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway
    A place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance
I'm getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, I lived in a ghetto
I've lived all over this town
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey-dovey
I ain't got time for that now
Transmit the message to the receiver
    Hope for an answer someday
I got three passports, a couple of visas
Don't even know my real name
High on a hillside, the trucks are loading
    Everything's ready to roll
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nighttime
I might not ever get home
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
This ain't no Mudd Club, or CBGB
I ain't got time for that now
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey-dovey
I ain't got time for that now
Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
    Heard about Pittsburgh, PA?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
    Somebody see you up there
I got some groceries, some peanut butter
To last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no headphones
Ain't got no records to play
Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
    Gonna be different this time
    Can't write a letter, I can't send no postcard
I can't write nothing at all
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
I'll never hold you, I'll never kiss you
I ain't got time for that now
Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock
We blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we're tapping phone lines
I know that that ain't allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
Or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle, so many times now
    I don't know what I look like
You make me shiver, I feel so tender
We make a pretty good team
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving
You ought to get you some sleep
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
    They won't help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace
    The burning keeps me alive

Every time I hear a Talking Heads song or just come across one, my first image that comes to my mind is the over sized suit he wore live. It was always a pleasure live watching these outstanding performers. They made music an actual art not simply something to listen to. David Bryne was a musical genius. All their music still makes sense today, if you sit and just listen to it. Today's music doesn't make sense.
