The great curve
How freakin great is this 42 years later?!
Just as great as when I watched the original show live on tv back then. We did however have more beer and pot on hand back then. Good times!
как 42?!!! АХ ДА... ДА...
This will be ahead of its time in another 42 years.
Yikes, why remind us how many years it has been! But leave it to humans to measure something that doesn't exist!
A guitar virtuoso playing along side a recently self tought bass player.. pure magic! The pride of RISD!
For just once in my life, I'd love to feel as much joy as Adrian Belew does when he's performing on stage.
The whole band gave off joy
Tina!
@@petestanton1945 Tina seemed to especially enjoy playing with him. Was always watching him do his thing.
No matter where we are the years always be free and always speak your actions
We never said that we never let go orange is for Protestant green is for Catholic and yet let's bring the countries together
Ha, Adrian in Talking Heads was almost overkill in the cool department.
they're both pretty dorky to be honest.
Zappa taught him well 👍🏻
@@IDontReadReplies42069 the most talent you really should see
as well as if dorky is some kind of cut you are lacking a ton of experience
@@RuthlessDJs - I’m sure he learned from Zappa. But I think Adrian brought some talent and ideas to the party to begin with.
@@jeffball6656 totally agree with you Jeff, his talent is unfathomable, my references to Zappa is that he must have really been let loose with his talent when he was with Zappa, maybe that’s why Zappa chose him. Just an opinion.
Adrian Belew with Bernie Worell, Dolette McDonald, Steve Scales and Busta Jones made this Talking Heads lineup a force to be reckoned with. One of the best band incarnations ever.
Just getting exposed to Belew. He's really amazing. I Love how he plays feedback guitar like a theremin (look it up) about 5 minutes into the first song. Talking Heads may have been the perfect fit for his talent.
I first fell in love with his playing on David Bowie's 'Lodger'. From there I went out and grabbed King Crimson's 'Discipline' and never looked back. Huge fan.
Check King Crimson - Discipline

Check out The Bears, dude!
Adrian shipped me this live DVD from his house. This is basically a reboot of their 1988 shows in 2003. Hard to beat!

@@HillBrothersMusic Thanks for the link! The bears sound great- Perfect 80's fun and Adrian's playing is Killer!
Right on! Highly recommend Lone Rhinoceros and Inner Revolution :)
The great Dolette McDonald's background vocals are great. Everyone's playing is so great on this tour. Name of This Band is Talking Heads probably my favorite album of theirs.
What an incredible set! Talking Heads AND Adrian Belew, I mean, come on. Amazing stuff.. Belew's control, ingenuity, passion and energy makes me smile so much. What he does from 4:40 in Psycho Killer (but especially when he is close to the amp) is pure brilliance... but, the whole performance by everyone is just superb.
just wishing they'd done it without david byrne,,he's such a clown.
Wow - talking heads is my favorite band, been listening extensively to king crimson, just found this after digging into Adrian Belew's career, fascinating concert!
Don’t forget his shows with Bears!
Saw them on Stopping Making Sense tour as High School junior. Changed my life!
His solo albums are great too. Young Lions especially!!
@d nuzzio I saw him with The Bears in Cleveland. It was awesome. The Bears were from Cincinnati
look up the bears in 2004 and tape it great audio as well as video i have watched it 10 times and can't get enough
this is my first aproach to talking heads! aaaaaaamazing with Adria Belew!
Really liked that guitar feedback play Adrian did
This is what happens when you have two or more musical genius’s on stage!
I remember my brother bringing this music home . Hot off the presses!!
Frank Zappa corrected an interviewer who assumed the 60s were the most innovative for rock music but it was the 70s. Riding in on Jimi Hendrix live on Maui with the iconic Rainbow Bridge concert and seeing bands like the Sex Pistols and Talking Heads emerge.
Just got to say, Adrian Belew is mesmerising. Love The Great Curve solo.
Talking Heads- laying down a solid groove
AdRiAn BeLew- *breaking fundamental notions of sonic physics* like Robert Fripps with a tenth of the pedals
luckily they have completely different styles of guitar playing, and that difference has made the band they've played toghether interesting, challenging and relevant still today.
“If you dance you may be able to understand the words better.” -DB ❤️
Heather Quance, YOU Got it 👍 👌 👏 💪 you're right there, & dancing 💃 too! I'm with you 💯 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I liked that too
Adrian really steals the show.
The solo on Crosseyed and Painless is untouchable
How could you tell? When Adrian is committing Strat abuse, the camera is showing the tambourine player.
I love that they get through this really good version of Psycho Killer, and then Adrian proceeds to completely tear the song's head off. Truly one of a kind.
Belew is definitely Louder than the rest
Any guitarist that can play a Zappa composition has the chops to do anything.
Growing up on (and still loving) Zeppelin Yes etc, I really underestimated the Heads when they appeared and for years, but they are a great live band.
Adrian Belew, the guitarists guitarist.
Great performance!
Love those Roland foot pedals :-)
This version of I Zimbra is nuts.
Co. Caine.
Belew and Talking Heads - thats just plain kick ass all around!
I could listen and watch this all day long !! Still waiting 😂🇨🇦
I feel Adrien Blew found his True Calling with the band King Crimson.
I am heading this evening to see Adrian, Jerry Harrison, and a 9-piece band in their "Remain in Light" revival tour in Cleveland!
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. This brings a grin to my face everytime is hear or watch and hear it. Thank you David
The feedback frenzy at the end of 'Psycho Killer' from Belew is just magnificent.
Fabulous, thank you for posting them. Good time for you
Wow! AB never ceases to amaze me.
Once upon a time there were great musicians and great music. This is one of those times. Jeff Beck 1974 with Max Middleton following the “Orange” album was another space in time like this one
The finest post punk band of all time.!
The talking heads were way beyond punk.
I saw them on 1982 tour, probably the best concert I ever seen, and I saw gazillion bands live.
I'm an old hippy I admit so love the dead stones Floyd zeppelin etc but this band are awesome
Paused to say that my favorite thing so far is that they don't yet know what they have in Crosseyed and Painless and just throw it into the middle of the set. Can't wait to see how they recover from this. Great upload... thanks!
I hate people who aren't polite hehe. Thank you this is brill!
This is the best iteration of the Talking Heads ever
The Great Curve my favorite.
Same here.
jdez10 TGC is abolutely da best
Love "More Songs about Buildings and Food" and "Remain in Light" and "The Name of this Band is Talking Heads" and "Stop Making Sense"
great production from that crew
Fear of music???
Talking Heads make me happy again 🤩
I always just kinda-sorta liked a couple of songs by Talking Heads when a buddy got me to watch Stop Making Sense and it completely blew me away.
Best thing I’ve heard/seen in ages.
More like Adrian Belew with the Talking Heads
Great stuff, thank you!
In their second lineup announcement this week, FloydFest verified that the funk band Turquaz is doing a 40th Anniversary "Remain In Light" set with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew at their July 2020 festival!
Lol China had other plans.
I saw this tour at Heatwave in (north of) Toronto. What was best about that show is that it was far earlier than this, and the first 3 tunes were 4-piece (original band).
David brought out the “rest” after that.
So, I can say that I saw the original band!
PS: Didn’t know that Belew was in the band then, and on the new album.
After seeing him several times with his band Gaga at our local Shipley’s, seeing him on THAT stage THAT day was mind blowing!
I was there too! I think that was the first time with the expanded line-up, premiering then-unreleased Remain In Light stuff. Heatwave was certainly Adrian's first time with them, he sez so...
Hey David, Adrian just joined King Crimson.
David- I guess we're going to have to call Bernie Worrell.
Obligatory there is nothing this good in the 21st century comment.
Love this band❤️🎸🎤🎉🎶🍺😎🇳🇿🇦🇺
...that microphone has a mind of it's own!!!
Wow! That is something entirely different from anything I've ever seen. What a show! You can't help but move with the music.
Damn, hadn't seen this Lone Rhino gig!!
wow ,.this is one of them special finds on youtube ,thanks to ya
Holy crap hearing this version of cross-eyed and painless compared to stop making sense version is crazy- it's like trippy funkadelic with this recording haha.
Belew and Jones . Wow , what Id pay to see this now !
Absolutely love Adrian since the time he played with 'Captain Tom'.
It seems to me that: Adrian B., Steve S., Busta J. & Bernie W. were born to be: important members of: Talking-Heads!!!:)
Adrian is the guitar de Zappa, Bolan, Bowie, Fripp and Byrne juju
They were never better than this!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is music This is art
Didnt adrian belew play on frank zappas album sheik yerbouti?
Smoking jams! Find myself a citi to live in. The lead guitarist is killing it
Good GOD.
This got me moving ; )
I saw Talking Heads when I was in college and they were just starting out. Admission was $1.00.
It was Nov. 10, 1977.
I was at a Zappa concert and Adrian was in the band at the time. Some time in the seventies at the Uptown Theater in Chicago. Pretty fucking good time.
Oh man I like this - HQ HD.
A short set for german TV.. Looks great but 11-4-80 Capitol Theatre sounds way better, & has the missing songs from their set.. and somehow they were way more comfortable in front of an American audience, imagine that.. if you havent yet watched 11-4-80 you should. It's better. Even in black & white it's better.
i'm still in love with tina weymouth to this day
You damn Germans are so lucky to have had this!
according to a diff upload on youtube (that is grainier video) this is:
Westfalenhalle Dortmund 20-12-1980
That was freakin insane!
Wir verlieren den Krieg und bekommen die Talking Heads ..
Great show by T.H. as usual.
I am a bit dissapointed though that the camera man doesn't know who Bernie Worrell is.
I was at this gig, right at the front on barrier.
Maestros all, but damn, Tina is a groove machine!! Chris is a smart man!!
Adrian Belew is a graduate of the Frank Zappa school of music
Somewhere between punk and disco, prog-rock and new-wave existed the real musical 'nirvana' and from NYC their name was Talking Heads!!! Blondie wanted to have fun, but TH created Alternative music... ahh...CBGB's was the place...were you there? I wish I could be right now, but my time machine (YT) can only give me one concert at a time ...AB is great thats why King Crimson rose from the dead...
Rock and Roll!
So glad this was short lived. Love Adrian Belew and Talking Heads but not on the same plate thankyou.
Crosseyed and painless.....
Reaching "P" Funk Level's of Great.
I love his germanium transistor fuzz.
What was he used?
5:10 kick the shit out of that guitar. wohoo Andrian
Looks similar to the guitar he played with Zappa...jimis old burned up geetar. I wonder?
what a blast
Any idea who the percussionist is? Guy is awesome.
Steve Scales. Played with them from the Remain in Light tour thru Little Creatures. He's in Stop Making Sense.
UA-cam Gold!
Just saw ADRIAN BELEW AT ROSFEST W/ JERRY HARRISON!!
Adrian boosts the "fun quotient" of any performance or band he's in. Hey, anyone who can make Robert Fripp crack a bit of a smile during a performance is a rare musician indeed.
Haha indeed
Note; it was a 'bit' of a smile. Let's not get carried away.
@@tb-cg6vd almost spit my coffee out on this one!!
@@tb-cg6vd Yes indeed 🙃 you nailed it.
That look from Tina at 2:32. Zappa used to crack up too when Adrian was doing his thing.
I don't think that they played The great curve ever better than this time. Bringing in Adrian Belew was the best thing they ever did.
Agreed - they really needed that sharp edge guitar for the sound they were getting into
Adrian Belew's abstract guitar playing was the perfect compliment to David Byrne's vocal style. This was Talking Heads at the height of their power.
his solo stuff is insane with that extraordinaire Bass player of his
Adrian Belew sending signals out into space!! To communicate with Aliens!
Not long before the incredible “Discipline” album would come into being.
According to Adrián's own words he composed almost everything in the crimson era
saw the heads a dozen times 77-83 .. was amazing how many of my NYC High School friends kinda transitioned zep , , to the dead to talking heads ... although we all came back to love them all for life into our mid 60s now... heads shows at forest hills some of the best I've seen.. although talking heads were # 1 band for me to see live 80-83

I love this - all is great. This is when Adrian was a real maniac!! Fun to watch. Love when he's playing the feedback off the amps!! He did that so well!!! And again, all is great - whole band I mean.
Saw him perform in a similar manner with King Crimson twice and on his own once. Fantastic !!!!! the Energy flows from him into the audience for sure.
People need to learn when not to use a stabilizer.
It seems like they're using some kind of green screen or noise gate on the zoom shots as well. It's kind of an odd look. Still happy this exists tho
Adrain Belew is one of the greatest guitarist nobody's ever heard of, well almost, those who pay attention to music know.
I completely agree.!
I've heard him of him! ZAPPA / BOWIE / TALKING HEÂDS
... aend, if my ears aren't foolin me, I do believe that Psycho Killer 1st hit the airwaves in the 1960's, way long b4 T.H. ever got goin ...
I saw Adrian Belew live in 2014, he played a corner bar for 30 people and was so much fun. No ego with this guy, pure talent and creativity.
@@ttaboy Ooo I envy! I'd love to have seen that :)
Seeing this incarnation (the best one) of Talking heads live at the Aragon in Chicago remains one of the most profound musical nights I have ever experienced . I have been blessed to witness Adrian live with Zappa, Crimson, the Bears, and his various solo and group projects , all stellar
Ditto can't wait🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Saw em in 1983, Top 5 concerts for me of all time! Maybe the Top 1. No Belew. The rest, the same lineup. 3rd row center at University of Kentucky’s original (small) basketball arena. About 3,500 in attendance. Side note: There was a bomb scare on campus that day, so they kept the house lights on the whole time. That made it safe, right? 😂
Adrian Belew. Met him and the rest of King Crimson a couple of years later at the Hammersmith Palais. Top guy I must say. No rock star ego at all. Completely down to earth, easy to talk to, polite, modest and very funny.
My experience as well. Met him after a show in the early 90s - super nice and was happy to talk about Zappa, Bowie, etc.
Así deberían ser las personas, auténticas siempre ,sin querer aparentar y buscar llamar la atención por ser el.buen tío.
Ditto. Saw him at Toad's Place New Haven and before the show he was just standing near the bar and I don't think anybody even recognized him. Easy fellow to talk to.
If you're from Kentucky, you're probably down to earth
That's been my experience as well.
I was there. I work as a staff crew for ZDF (Second German Televison) for stage 1 (Talking Heads and Dire Straits) and stage 2 (Mike Oldfield and Roxy Music) for to managed the stages. The name of this event: Rock Pop in Concert. Talking heads were only the real impressive band at this evening. A beautyful remember. In May 2018 I‘ll go up to 63. At this event I was 25 years old. Great time!!
Amazing memories ! Well is May, so happy birthday !!
Dire Straits weren't good?
So can you explain where has Tina gone in the other songs?
Why isnt Tina playing bass?
@@jimcharles651 No. Most overrated 80s band
Adrian Belew should be inducted into the R n R H. o. F. in the sideman category
Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Paul Simon. King Crimson & NiN are a few bands who had releases Ade figures prominently on...
Agreed!
Lori Anderson
Adrian Belew is one of the kind & THE BEST of the kind. Anywhere he lays his fingers causes miracle!
He was just recently on the Marc Maron podcast WTF (What the Fuck). Adrian is a genius and so humble.
Was a doorman at the premiere hotel in Milwaukee back in the 80’s and he stopped and talked with me about stuff in general for 15 - 20 minutes one day on his way to the tour bus heading out. Way cool guy. Loves him
