    Adrian Belew's abstract guitar playing was the perfect compliment to David Byrne's vocal style. This was Talking Heads at the height of their power.

    Adrian Belew with Bernie Worell, Dolette McDonald, Steve Scales and Busta Jones made this Talking Heads lineup a force to be reckoned with. One of the best band incarnations ever.

    This lineup of Talking Heads was like one of those giant grain harvesters. Every piece fitted perfectly together to do the job! But it wasn't grain harvesting! Booty shaking, brain blowing, musical madness! Ahhh,yessss!

      I saw Adrian Belew live in 2014, he played a corner bar for 30 people and was so much fun. No ego with this guy, pure talent and creativity.

    I was there. I work as a staff crew for ZDF (Second German Televison) for stage 1 (Talking Heads and Dire Straits) and stage 2 (Mike Oldfield and Roxy Music) for to managed the stages. The name of this event: Rock Pop in Concert. Talking heads were only the real impressive band at this evening. A beautyful remember. In May 2018 I‘ll go up to 63. At this event I was 25 years old. Great time!!

    Adrian Belew. Met him and the rest of King Crimson a couple of years later at the Hammersmith Palais. Top guy I must say. No rock star ego at all. Completely down to earth, easy to talk to, polite, modest and very funny.

    Seeing this incarnation (the best one) of Talking heads live at the Aragon in Chicago remains one of the most profound musical nights I have ever experienced . I have been blessed to witness Adrian live with Zappa, Crimson, the Bears, and his various solo and group projects , all stellar

      Saw em in 1983, Top 5 concerts for me of all time! Maybe the Top 1. No Belew. The rest, the same lineup. 3rd row center at University of Kentucky’s original (small) basketball arena. About 3,500 in attendance. Side note: There was a bomb scare on campus that day, so they kept the house lights on the whole time. That made it safe, right? 😂

      I just saw Adrian with BEAT! It was him, Steve Vai, Tony Levin, and Danny Carey! What an experience!! You can hear his influence in this show as it went on to influence 80's King Crimson!!

    Right at 19:50 during "Once In A Lifetime" the camera pulls back and you see Bernie Worrel's right hand in the foreground.
    And then you realize that his right hand has been doing that little four note run for the entire duration of the song. No sampling, no digital assistance. Just a musician playing music like a fuckin' boss. Along with everyone else on the stage.
    I saw this performed live at the Wolman Skating Rink in Central Park back in 1980. I was 20 years old and my understanding of music changed from that day forward.

      Easier to keep in sync, if he used an arpeggiator the band would have to sync to that. Just playing it is much easier for everyone else. He's a total pro. Genius,

    It's a joy and pleasure to watch and listen to Dolette McDonald. Her energy, wow. And always lovely smiling, her spontaneous dance moves. I think she must be a wonderful and charming person. Why she is so ignoredand underrated in the comments. She carried this concert into a memorable event, with her fantastic performance she fired up the entire band.
    She is so beautiful and I love her delightful aura and lovely smile.

      Absolutely! As much as I love the performance of Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt, I find it sad, that Dolette McDonald wasn't in "Stop Making Sense" - she earned the spotlight!

    What a punchy, clear, tasty bass sound from Tina Weymouth - the best live venue bass sound I’ve ever heard.
    Really the whole mix is amazingly clear and articulated for its time - each instrument and vocal occupies its own space in your head, nothing is getting lost or muddied by the idiosyncrasies of the venue or the mix.

As powerful and equally creative in personality as any artist in her day and now even. Rock Goddess and half the deepest pocket in Avant Garde. Hubby on drums makes for an intimately tight pocket. Tom Tom Club is the shit!

      @@jymbopalysearmageddon6484 I’ll bet when you go to Baskin Robbins you always get the same flavor out of 31, and if they don’t have it in stock you leave with nothing and curse them to the world, instead of, oh I don’t know, maybe trying a different flavor and surprisingly enjoying yourself.
      This is music, my friend, not mathematics. There isn’t ever just one right way to do it.

      I was kinda annoyed that Byrne thought he needed to bring Busta Jones in on bass. Sure Jones might've been technically better, but Tina's melodic Motown-influenced bass lines were so great for the band and helped make the music so distinctive. Many, many bass players admire and respect Tina's cool bass riffs and technique. The Heads didn't need anybody else.

      Was a doorman at the premiere hotel in Milwaukee back in the 80’s and he stopped and talked with me about stuff in general for 15 - 20 minutes one day on his way to the tour bus heading out. Way cool guy. Loves him

    Fun to see Tina and Adrian play here, the whole ensemble is as tight as a drum. “Pure energy!” In living art like Byrne can put us up in a playfully mindfully mindless ness realm while we feel the rhythm of life.

    Just getting exposed to Belew. He's really amazing. I Love how he plays feedback guitar like a theremin (look it up) about 5 minutes into the first song. Talking Heads may have been the perfect fit for his talent.

      I first fell in love with his playing on David Bowie's 'Lodger'. From there I went out and grabbed King Crimson's 'Discipline' and never looked back. Huge fan.

    saw the heads a dozen times 77-83 .. was amazing how many of my NYC High School friends kinda transitioned zep , , to the dead to talking heads ... although we all came back to love them all for life into our mid 60s now... heads shows at forest hills some of the best I've seen.. although talking heads were # 1 band for me to see live 80-83

      The dude gots a resume. This is right after a stint with Frank Zappa and right before King Crimson. And he’s just great on his own. He’s local so I’m fortunate to watch him play a good dozen times in my 40 years of concert going

    Tina Weymouth, most underrated bass player in rock. She's such a huge part of making these songs swing live. TINA & CHRIS were the best live rhythm sections ever.

    I was not into this band back in the day, but watching these videos of them now, I have to think this was one of the best live bands ever.

      @@mikenelson3338 I was. The thing about this band is you can't pin them down to any particular timeline. Might be 70's, or 80's or 90's...only the shadow knows...trying to figure it out is like being on the Road to Nowhere...my favourite song of all time.

      I agree! If I had been about 10 years older, I would have seen them at CBGB in New York. That must have been something !
      I remember watching them perform on NBC's Saturday Night Live around 1979 or 1980 when I was 14 or 15 and thinking they sucked. But what did I know at that age ?

      Saw them in 1979 at Zellerbach Hall Berkeley. Just the quartet of Harrison on keys, Tina and Chris rhythm section and of course Byrne doing his thing out front. Will never forget that show (or the fact that my date didn’t like it!)

    This is what happens when you have two or more musical genius’s on stage!
    I remember my brother bringing this music home . Hot off the presses!!
    Frank Zappa corrected an interviewer who assumed the 60s were the most innovative for rock music but it was the 70s. Riding in on Jimi Hendrix live on Maui with the iconic Rainbow Bridge concert and seeing bands like the Sex Pistols and Talking Heads emerge.

    Belews feedback at the end of Psycho Killer is real shades of Station To Station live 78. Once In A Lifetime here is magnificently delivered and that thundering bass is superb right through.

    I love this - all is great. This is when Adrian was a real maniac!! Fun to watch. Love when he's playing the feedback off the amps!! He did that so well!!! And again, all is great - whole band I mean.

      luckily they have completely different styles of guitar playing, and that difference has made the band they've played toghether interesting, challenging and relevant still today.

    What an incredible set! Talking Heads AND Adrian Belew, I mean, come on. Amazing stuff.. Belew's control, ingenuity, passion and energy makes me smile so much. What he does from 4:40 in Psycho Killer (but especially when he is close to the amp) is pure brilliance... but, the whole performance by everyone is just superb.

    The great Dolette McDonald's background vocals are great. Everyone's playing is so great on this tour. Name of This Band is Talking Heads probably my favorite album of theirs.

    Loved every freaking minutes of this. After the first two jams, Adrian toned it down a bit and fell into this groove whilst still delivering some radiant and tasty notes from his turbo stratocaster rig. They were all amazing... Every single one!

    Love this. Seeing this band (twice) still stands out as a top concert experience. Loved Belew with the Bears, as well. And later with the Power Trio... Belew always delivers.

    When live performances were about delivering great, honest and true music, with skill and soul. It should be about the MUSIC, not just the looks. I am glad I was born in the mid sixties and had the privilege of seing all those great acts in their prime.

    What I realize watching this just after Stop Making Sense is that David is doing all the rhythm parts while Adrian does the lead here, but for Stop Making Sense, David does the lead while Alex does the rhythm. Songs like Cities, Crosseyed and Painless, Making Flippy Floppy prove this. All this to say, wow David Bryne is such a slept on guitarist

      While I fully appreciate KC and recognize both their collective brilliance and how significant their influence was and continues to be, I somehow never got "into" their sound, a cpl tracks aside. In any event, I fully take you word for it )That AB found his true calling (I noticed you capitalized it, so is "True Calling" a KC track?) with KC.

    Growing up on (and still loving) Zeppelin Yes etc, I really underestimated the Heads when they appeared and for years, but they are a great live band.

      Brandon Barker if you haven't already, check out the Rome concert on YT, and the 2nd LP in the "The Name of This Band Is" double live LP....this was the best lineup, doing a lot of the Remain in Light songs, Adrian Belew's presence on guitar is special.

    I saw this band. They were sl so happy to be up there playing. The vibe was so positive. I had heard the Fear of Music tour was much more dark. I thought Belew'd lines came from a synth until I noticed they corresponded to this guitar player's fingers. I asked ,', who is that? : My friend said Adrian Belew
