What I like about Jeff Daniels is he seems to be the most easy going guy, surprising for somebody who's in movies and TV. But Jeff has said it before he's not a movie star, he's a actor. And apparently a good musician. His role in Gettysburg, one of my favs.
I worked with Jeff Daniels on season 1 of the Newsroom. Not only is he a great actor and musician, but he is a really down to earth nice guy. I was a non union actor at the time and I had already become eligible to be union. I thought it would be a one off episode, but I stayed the entire season as non union because I knew the second I got my union card I would be off the show (they had already filled their union quota for that first season).....I got paid shit, but the opportunity to work with Jeff Daniels was priceless. Such a humble guy. Also to note: When talking about James Cagney, one of his first acting gigs was with James Cagney in the movie “Ragtime”......
what a likable guy. I feel like I could sit there and chat with Jeff for a while without being star struck or anything.
I've watched a few interviews with Jeff. He's a pretty grounded guy. Lives in Michigan near where he grew up so he could raise his kids normally, not the Hollywood lifestyle
What a lovely man. Much impressed with his playing!
I was so sick,,,many years ago sitting on the toilet I thought I was going to die then I thought of Jeff Daniels,,the scene from Dumb and Dumber,,when he was on the pot,,,it got me through it,,,Thanks Jeff,,
🎶🎸👍
@Robd1 replies 👍👍
LoL excellent
I met Jeff Daniels and James Gandolfini after a broadway show in 2009 in NYC. They were seriously 2 of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in my entire life.
Jeff Daniels is very talented ... great actor, great guitar player
Now you do something like this Harry...AND TOTALLY REDEM YOURSELF!!"
he's Harry in another movie as well.
"You shot me... I can't believe they're giving you a medal for shooting me."
"Haarrry, you TOLD me too."
Jeff: is that you guitar
Norm: yes
Jeff: are the strings yours
Norm:yes
Jeff: all 6 of them?
Bolth of em?
I want you to know, that I appreciate what you did there.
Yeah....
Cool!!!
I saw him on Broadway in "To Kill a Mockingbird." It turns out he's a genius - on myriad levels. A true Renaissance man!
Harold Clark I saw him in that play as well in Nov of ‘18. Outstanding actor. I also saw him in God of Carnage with James Gandolfini, and in a play called Blackbird along with Michelle Williams. He is amazing on stage.
Jeff Daniels is awesome in so many ways. A real down-2-earth star.
One of the best piece of acting work I have seen is when Jeff is talking to some students in a class about 'Is America great'? I can't remember if it was in a film (movie, I am English), or on TV, but what a great piece of work!!
It is the trailer for Newsroom. Google "Opening monologue Newsroom." And, yes, it is superb.
@@arthurkurtz2448 Glad you like it as well Arthur, I am English but it bought a lump to my throat, superb acting.
I love his comments about the Grand Opera House in Oshkosh. I lived in Osh for many years and often had occasions to go to the Grand for shows and even ghost investigations a few times (it's definitely haunted by friendly spirits). Love Jeff's work and his musicianship!
I watch every video of Norms because they are so enjoyable to watch. I have learned that people are people no matter who they are or what their stature.
Way to go Jeff!! Loved your acting especially in Gettysburg!
Jeff Daniels sounds great, his voice blends right in with the tone of that guitar to my ears.👍👍
This man has definitely been hit with a talent stick..he can do anything comedy drama & a musician to boot!..enjoy his work immensely.
I was lucky enough to stumble into one of his shows. Right time right place. He is a truly talented Michigan Man!!
I thought he was born in Alabama.
I was expecting him to suck, but man, this guy has got skills and an undeniable soul that shines through his music. Kudos Jeff.
Oh my gosh first last,,,,, your beautiful
@@ms-hi9hs settle down
First Last he sucks this isn’t anything special
Norm, I'm so thankful you have this channel, what a gem.
Well I'll be.....Jeff Daniels? No kidding? And like seriously though this was awesome. Nice playing and _REALLY_ nice guitar, too. I have even more respect for him now than I did before. He's really good.
JD, you rock it! Fan for yrs.
Jeff is great actor and I always enjoy his work. It just blows my mind the he and other actors are accomplished guitar players. Cool story about the Martin guitar of Jeff's. 👍🏼
I’ve seen him twice at my small town’s little opera house. Great show each time!!
I always thought he was a better accurate than he generally gets credit for, but I had no idea that he was that skilled of a guitar player. SWEET
I was one of the people that had no idea Jeff could play like that. So cool!
Jeff Daniels in netflix "Godless" a really great western series, and Jeff nailed the part. I Didn't know he played guitar, and so well. Very talented man.
Jeff Daniels has actually played guitar in some of his movies. Remember the scene in RV where he and Kristin Chenoweth performed a cover of the Delaney and Bonnie chestnut Never Ending Song Of Love?
Wow! I only know Jeff Daniels as an Actor. This is so wonderful! He's a very skilled guitar player.
Was a nice post and great guest and shop. Thanks.
now I love this guy even more
Ive always liked Jeff Danieels, and I do even more now that I know he's got the blues!
WOW! I didn't know Jeff Daniels could play like that! GREAT!
I'm kinds blown away, but not surprised. Jeff is one of my favorite actors, especially in Gettysburg.
If he came to town to play our old 300 seater, I'd get myself right down front and look forward to some Arlo and Stevie for the evening.
I learn something every time I watch these vids! Gotta look.ip.those guitars
Love those lyrics.. “ .. but my goin’s gone…” !!👍🏼❤️
I love how Jeff just goes about his life in a humble modest way.
Jeff's a great player. I've enjoyed seeing him a couple times at the Purple Rose Theater. Really great stories behind the songs and pretty nice playing as well.
This may be one of the best videos I have seen here.
Awesome, really cool jam!
He is a gem
Love Jeff Daniels!!
What a great dude. And great guitarist too.
Thanks Jeff, that was awesome. And why is it that movie Dumb and Dumber stays in our minds forever in the present? That was hysterical.
This reminds me how I felt when I learned that Steve Martin was an amazing banjo player! Great interview!
right on, love it.peace.
Man will never be lonely when he has a guitar at his side.
I have a new found respect for Jeff
Wow Jeff, who would have guessed that you could pick a guitar like that. Well done. I'd love to catch you on tour sometime. Really cool blues. Thank you.
🎸🎼🎶🎵🎶Mike Pardue
He reminds me of Alex Lifeson, sitting there with a guitar, haha! Jeff is awesome. Can't wait for "Dumb & Dumber To" later this year!
matt k I bet you came to find that actually you could've waited, forever, haha!
Great guy to watch in the movies or hear play his guitar!
Great guy and great guitar player.
HeyOshkosh!! Lived and worked in Oshkosh wi! Good little town !
I had no clue he came to WI, especially Oshkosh! WHAT?! Blew my mind. Loved seeing him on Newsroom. And now seeing this after he was Kelly Clarkson, I absolutely want to see him if given the opportunity!
Excellent. Rock` On! From Sioux City,Ia.
Oh man, a pretty big Utah Phillips fan. Got to see him live on one of my dad's birthdays in Davis, CA. Would love hearing Jeff do Utah !
Jeff is a great representative for us here in Michigan. Saw him a couple of times at the Tibbets Opera House in Coldwater, Michigan. Very entertaining.
Martin Lepper I agree, and not just because I'm from Coldwater lol
I believe he does... my dad lives up nort' and visits the theater once or twice a year... he said he thinks he still does lol
Martin Lepper lol no worries! I'm in Indianapolis. My northern friends tell me I sound like a hick that still says "Eh!" And "You betcha!" LOL
Agreed- My wife and I have seen him a few times at the Barn Theater in Augusta MI. If you haven't been, you should go!!
Jeff did a fantastic job in Runaway Vacation (RV) with the late Robin Williams. It was hard to believe it was really him behind the big mustache and that it was really him playing the guitar and doing the songs in this classic comedy. A must-see movie.
Thank you Jeff!
NewsRoom is a great show and Jeff is awesome in it!
Jeff, This is really cool, but one of my favorite things is that you mention playing in Oshkosh, WI. That's awesome! Super cool!
beautiful guitar
Fantastic
Thats just beautiful
Now I wanna see one of Mr. Daniel's shows. That was really good
Oshkosh has a great music scene. I worked at a venue about a block from the Opera House. Thanks for the shout out.
Very cool interview
He's got that thumb independence that's so hard to master.
I can't use my fingers so I respect fingerstyle players.
Wow Seems like a good guy to have a beer with! Love that he can shred!!
Michigan represent!
Michigan Pride is real!
Great song!
Wow, amazing
Stumbled upon just now, holy Toledo! Always regretted not learning fingerpicking, but at my age, with arthritis and neuropathy, even strumming becomes difficult. Still got my 'ol EKO 12 string, purchased in '65-'66, or thereabouts. Keep movin' JD, that's the secret, keep movin'.
I didn't know Jeff Daniels played guitar at all let alone this good until recently. I would pay to watch him play!
I’m from Oshkosh and have seen him at The Grand Opera House. And he’s right. Pretty damn awesome 😎
screamingdeafdog I’m from Shawano and was at the Grand Opera House to see John Prine. Very nice place for an intimate show.
My jaw dropped! Born and raised in Oshkosh. Love that place.... crazy that of all the places he could have named his mind went to my hometown.. small world.
What a fantastic guy.
Eldery Instruments is an awesome place. I just bought a martin from them recently. a GPC-28e
I see him leading the attack from little round top.
What a talent, glad that he didn't stay in the family business, lumber, and he continues to give back to his hometown (Chelsea, MI). Also dropped Arlo's name, bonus. Stay safe and healthy Jeff. Thanks for all you do 👍✌️
Damn Jeff can shred
I suffer from ADD and ADHD... So I only have to be a perfectionist for a few minutes at a time.
Having said that.... Uhhh... What was I talking about? Oh ya... Shredding! Shredding is when a guitar player tries to play as many notes as possible within a half a beat with notes that mean nothing and have no melodic rhyme or reason.
I don't know exactly what you call what Jeff was playing... But it was very articulate; old time blues where the right hand is finger-picking a flexible pattern that allows the left hand to play rhythm and something melody-ish invented by June Carter Cash. Of course her style was not as sophisticated. Over time it morphed into such an incredible style.
I get what you mean, though and agree with you that Jeff Daniels is the real deal.
PS: if you have never watched Escanaba in da Moonlight, you're going to want to. It's his best movie.
Myna Prophet there is great shredding and bad shredding. but you definitely cant shred.
jeff sucks
Very good, Jeff!
Hi Jeff if you see this?
ill alway's remember you potraying Joshua Lawrence Chamberland in Gettysburg.
you looked so much like chamberland.
that you were the perfect person for the part.
.
His best role me thinks.
@@njuham
I agree, without Jeff, the terrible human tragedy would not have rung so true.
Jeff is a great guy. His entire family is too. He lives next door to my brother. Heck, they might be playing pickle ball at this typing.
Respect.
Awesome
DO NOT let him use your bathroom! 💩🌋
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
LMAO 🤣. One of the best comments.
Most underrated comment on this thread
Ah, the famous incident Harry had in Mary Swanson's bathroom during the movie Dumb And Dumber. I heard Jeff Daniels say in an interview that Clint Eastwood told him something like that had happened to him before! 😅
He’s a regular guy
Love Escanaba in the moonlight
Such an underrated actor.
he's surprisingly good...how cool!
I know the show , its freaking amazing and loved your lovestory ❤️
"Who's the DEAD MAN who hit me with the salt shaker? "
haha! he horked in my burger
Kick his ass sea bass!
Oh believe me sir I would never offend a man of your size...
"You can't triple stamp a double stamp, You can't triple stamp a double stamp Lloyd!"
Jeff Daniels is the man!
Finally my rabbit hole led me home. Enjoyed the visit and blues. Semper Fi
This was epic!
My fondest on-screen cinematic memory of the incomparable Mr. Jeff Daniels has to be his Officer in Command role as Brigadier General "Bloody Josh Chamberlain" in the movie Gettysburg. (Chamberlain later went on to become the 32nd governor of Maine. Jeff did him justice. SOLID homage to the Union hero.
He's actually got some CDs out that are great. "Grandfather's Hat", "Keep it Right Here" and "Together Again" are my three faves. But all 5 are good. And they are fundraisers, for his theatre that he founded. Check them out.
What a talent.
That was fucking awesome, man!!!
Really good!
Speaking as a Canadian, Jeff is what I love about Americans.
wow are now this face of Jeff Daniels I think he is Cool and Sound Great!!
