- Uri Berliner, a senior business editor at NPR, has published a whistleblower account in The Free Press alleging that the renowned news organization has lost the nation's trust. He joins NewsNation's "CUOMO," to explain what he saw at NPR.
Chris Cuomo hosts "CUOMO," a no-nonsense show featuring the day's most important news from all perspectives. "CUOMO" airs weeknights at 8 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT on NewsNation. #CUOMO

I stopped listening to them years ago. They became extremely Liberal not the liberal in the "middle" and tolerant. They became extreme.
NPR/MSNBC...intolerable, imo
NPR=National Pharma Representative....good one huh?:)
@@20Schmidtsame with Fox and newsmax. Most main stream is garbage these days
@@alexatedw Fox and Newsmax are biased but it's more of a problem with NPR because they get taxpayer money. Imagine being a liberal and your tax dollars are going to Newsmax.
@@alexatedw Not the same, though. Fox and Newsmax aren't public radio and don't pretend when it comes to the opinion segment of their content. NPR on the other hand gets most of its funding from member stations and non-profits. There's no good reason for them to be captured the way Fox is (and newsmax to perhaps a lesser extent).
Let's face it, Chris Cuomo was doing the very same thing while at CNN
Exactly! And the sheeple won’t realize it, unless someone smarter tells them.
@@ryankeane6612 Tells us what CNN is. Chris Cuomo is just a person without principles, very common these days.
At least he has changed
Well he’s not at CNN anymore lol
Bingo
I started noticing this over ten years ago and completely quit listening to NPR in 2015.
I don't like NPR anymore..Everything is socal justice...race-gender..all with a severe left leaning.I too have written NPR many times..and I feel they don't care. They actually sound like brainwashed blobs. They don't have a variety of programs like they use to ,,,,I stopped donating almost 7 years ago...sad sad asad
ditto
Same!!!
same
2018 was my last year. My proudest moment was when I got my story on local NPR.
I live in Massachusetts, and use to support NPR Boston. Around ten years ago it began to fall apart. Now it's just an endless litany of far leftist complaint culture with no other opinions. It's a tedious bore. They lost me, and my wallet. Recently I heard they are desperate for donations, many others like myself have stopped supporting them.
I stopped donating years ago after the change in their programming..It's joyless, PC nonsense no longer enjoyable to listen to...It's an agenda..believe me and not just NPR
They need more shows like Marketplace, Car Talk, and Prairie Home Companion. When I was a kid, 50% of their content was about the arts and education. Now 80% of their content is about identity politics.
yes, WGBH was amazing. Like 40 years ago.
@@larssandvik1347 WGBH was great then..Jazz,classical and blues shows..story shows like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and more...They sold their souls to George Soros and corporate blobs.Terrible
NPR is not progressive... it advocates support for Biden/Clinton neoliberal limosine liberals, not towards progressive issues. As such it has also lost trust with the true left.
After 30 years of listening to NPR I finally got fed up of their skewed reporting and stopped subscribing and listening
What took so long??
I really miss NPR, just couldn't after 2016...
The author is quite correct: I love radio, but NPR has become incredibly biased, with even the same two or three topics day after day.
Abortion under attack, lgbt and black history under attack, voting rights under attack, immigration under attack, common sense gun laws under attack, environmental plans under attack, totally all good social justice cause #9 under attack. And they just run it on repeat. There isn't a single issue they present with full context or in good faith.
So true! I've listened to NPR since about 1996. They don't even hide their intolerance of diverse opinions anymore. As someone who would never vote for Trump, I can actually understand why people are flocking to him. They feel threatened by the extreme liberal views and lack of tolerance from the left. The polarization needs to stop.
Ive stopped listening to NPR probably 5 years ago.
Anytime... literally any time I tune in they are talking about racism or women.
Only 5 years ago?
Only time I've ever tuned in, I heard them start identifying their gender, and pronouns, etc... instantly turned it off.
😂😂😂😂
The only people who still want to listen are those homesick for Israel
That’s the new liberal religion come on
Even the liberals in my family have stopped listening to NPR, as it has become insufferable, even to them.
No kidding. I listened to NPR until the progressives took over. I am and have always been a moderate Independent; the leftward leaning at NPR, the PBS News Hour, and most mainstream news outlets has been precipitous in the last decade.
I think it's the moderate independents that will finally make their need and wishes known and just maybe the tables will turn.
He's reporting on this like the entire nation didn't already know. What makes it worse is that NPR doesn't have the balls to just come out and admit its left wing bias.
The shift happened in August 2016. First NPR ended comment sections with no warning (I think b/c Trump fans were making too many good arguments). Then they did their ridiculous "annotated" debate, where they fact checked Don & Hillary n real time, as if we needed them to spoon feed us.
Only half the nation knew...
It’s important that he speaks out, though, since wokists can hardly dismiss him as easily as they do us. Im eternally grateful he spoke up. Of course, NPR, instead of introspection, is defending its reporting, doubling down, in an article on FB
So like Fox won’t come out and admit it’s right wing bias?
They should be defunded.
NPR rarely identifies liberal sources as such and cites them without criticism or rebuttal, while conservative sources are always demarcated and with the well often poisoned.
Yes - so true!
Exactly. Then when you realize American liberalism is not much more than just following the legacy media’s word on literally everything… eye opening to say the least
@@insufferableconceit LOL Sorry, yeah. NPR's just not onto goosestepping. LOL
NPR has become like "The Onion". The things they talk about sound like a joke most of the time.
Defund NPR and PBS!
Why?
@@GG-kt2uk Why pay for smut when we can get it for free? ❤️🙏
@@LoireValleyChateaux smut?
@@GG-kt2uk Obviously, @LoireValleyChateaux was being sarcastic. I interpreted his/her comment to mean that there is no point in subscribing to a broadcasting channel, one publicly funded by taxpayer dollars, that airs one-sided political viewpoints instead of reporting the actual news.
PBS is probably the best thing we have
What a joke they say "All things Considered". on NPR.False advertising of the highest order.
LOL
God I miss NPR, had been listening since 1981, thousands in donations. In 2016 they sunk their own ship. If I accidentally hear it on the radio I bristle and get it off the air asap.
You put onto words the my exact same experience with NPR!
@@merlcycle8058 It's such a shame. Peter Boghossian did a great multi part series on NPR documenting some of the bigger flubs and stories they pushed. It's really worth watching on UA-cam. His solution isn't to defund it but to make it unbiased. Idk if that can happen but it would be great.
Agreed. I used to spend hours after work each night making comments on all sorts of articles. When, whammo, Against 202 comment function disappeared. Wonder why, haha...(hard to control the narrative when comments are open to the public).
p.s., You can't even download Tiny Desk Concert anymore :-(
Same… mid 90s to roughly 2016
This is me, too. It’s the only radio I listen to in the car, but often need to silence it. Their obvious biases and sometimes outright lies infuriate me. Gotta turn it off and lower my blood pressure.
I used to listen to NPR for four hours a day (Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation, This American Life). I have not listened at all for the last five years.
And read the response by the CEO of NPR: “We stand by our reporting. We have no bias.” Meaning zero conservatives on staff is our own business as our listenership collapses.
Yeah, and also the subtle implication that he must be a racist for bringing this up.
What reporting? I think he meant to say political commentary.
He is a thief taking out tax dollars for his propaganda.
I listened to NPR exclusively for 30 years until 2016. They way they treated Trump was bizarre and made me wonder if they mistreated all of their reporting with such extreme bias. NPR is not a news station and has nothing that I want in life. Adios.
That's the year I pulled the plug. Listened / pledged since 81... Just couldn't take it anymore.
Npr has a pathway to come back. Look at all these comments, we've all listed for decades until 2016. Will they, idk
They are so focused on any victim storyline, and are never open to opposing viewpoints on what the "victim" is saying.
they interviewed a book writer/publisher who openly wrote trans encouragement picture books for 2-5 year olds and acted shocked when schools and parents refused to buy the books after they found out what they were. She blamed far right groups for destroying her business, but really, the far left organizations weren’t even buying the books because of how immoral they were
NPR was previously my favorite station to listen to or read. During the last few years, NPR has lost all credibility in my eyes. Previously, I viewed NPR as unbiased and with journalistic integrity. Now NPR is both politicized and ideological captured. I can see the slant in their reporting: what is reported, the "slant", the facts which are omitted, the wording, etc. I don't listen or read NPR anymore.
It is a great loss in my life as well. It used to be a refuge.
This is a great start! This is the reason why I watch News Nation! Thank you so much!!!!
I used to love national public radio, and I must say I very much agree with the sentiments of Uri. I rarely even tune in to NPR today and I used to send them money during fundraising programming.
what did they say about hunter bidens laptop? ""We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions,"
Former Democrat here - I started noticing their pro pharma/ pro GMO bias around the same time they became intolerant of the right, seems like it all happened around the time of Trump's election. I'm voting for Kennedy and I heard my local NPR station refer to him as a fringe candidate so I had to write to them to explain that they're not supposed to be acting like CNN.
That’s something but it’s not left wing like many say. I don’t get that. Not saying you’re saying this. But to the point the right in America doesn’t seem like it is conservative at all but just the opposite of the other side who they call the left.
Both sides seem more partisan than anything and will flip on a dime with whatever their party goes with
Same- I'm an Independent young Boomer; former Dem-voting; the DNC's machinations in the past 8 yrs or so to eliminate viable, non-corporate captured candidates- including Bernie; and now, RFK, Jr- has been despicable. At around the same time, the Big Pharma-funded MSM stepped up their bias and tribal thinking around the time of Covid. The PBS interview of RFK, Jr , for instance- a few months back was the largest smear job I've ever witnessed; the interviewer was rude, disrespectful, hostile, and slanderous; would not let him speak a full sentence without interrupting him. Along those same lines, I have never heard a single independent report or interview or discussion about RFK, Jr- though he is higher in the polls for voters under 35 than either of the duopoly.. There is no story on how the Dem admin have denied Secret Service protection to RFK, Jr FIVE times.... (the only time in history this has EVER happened for a viable Pres candidate) ... They both marginalize any candidates who do not fit in with the Us vs. Them tribalism that they cling to, and its been a great disappointment to see this in formerly highly respected news outlets.
they shut off their guests when the guest is not responding the way they want them to answer questions.
'
A perfect example of this is how they aggressively adapted the term "Latinx" and recently dropped it without addressing how pandering it was. This isn't a newspaper. There isn't a daily corrections column, which is unfortunate.
I guess sometimes they really do learn the error of their ways. The latinx word was created by specific academics and was supposed to be inclusive (cough cough), which it isn't and never was.
NPR has always been propaganda
But you watch Tucker, I bet, right? What a maroon. Hilarious hearing the bigots sound off.
Thanks for reporting on this chris. Uri is spot on! NPR's obvious bias the past few years is precisely why I pivoted to independent media. And the Free Press is a good example of where to discover and ponder diverse perspectives. And many thanks to Uri for speaking out.
I listened for 6 months and knew, these people have a very narrow view of the world and I had a much wider view. I quit way before the woke crap started and figured it out. Die Hard.
I found the same problem with Newsmax. Their world was just too small, even as a partisan outlet.
They lost me due to this very thing. I tried again twice in the last 4 years and it just gets worse. My opinions aren't valid to NPR nor are they represented.
NPR won't listen to anyone outside of the terrerium that they live in
Nobody can comment on their UA-cam channel
They try to act so non partisan and fail miserably.
NPR needs new blood. The current regime there is still living in the 20th Century while ignoring how issues and attitudes have shifted.
I used to listen to NPR all the time. For 15-ish years. But it’s not for me anymore. I wouldn’t call NewsNation neutral though.
How is Newsnation not neutral?
NN gets accused of being in the tank for the left or the right depending on the show, segment, or day. Ad vontes has it pretty centered. GN has it center.
Name one media outlet that is anymore. Closest I have found is the Wall Street Journal.
I’m sick of right wing bias and left wing bias. That’s why I’m watching this channel.
NPR is state media
Not quite. Imo it’s more like a liberal imitation of what an American state media would look like. Their brilliance that’s gotten them this far is how they get all the wealthy lib philanthropists hypnotized into giving them money
Yep. I was a daily NPR listener for a years. Starting around the Trump era, they really started going off the rails. Instead of just reporting the news, it started to feel like NPR thought it was their duty to tell me what to think. Very insulting to me as a listener. I ended up switching to podcasts / UA-cam for my news, and only occasionally tune into my local NPR station nowadays
Chris, I've been a harsh critic of yours for over 10 years. Your time at CNN was concerning to me for several reasons, mostly because of CNN's liberal agenda and your inability to separate yourself from it. Be that as it may, I am SO IMPRESSED with this interview of Uri Berliner. I am going to ERASE any previous conceptions I have made about you, and I will begin watching you and NEWS NATION with great interest. Thank you for showing me that you DO have journalistic aspirations and that you deserve a re-evaluation. Onwards and upwards.
Defund NPR by the government. Let them get money from their audience but not from me.
I’m center right and listened for years they were mildly biased until about 2010 then they left the building they became hard to hear because there was no longer news just persuasion
National Propaganda Radio
I listened to NPR everyday from the about 1990 until around 2015 when I started noticing a change.
Look who’s calling the kettle black 😂😂😂
NPR should be shut down. The most deceptive part is their tone in the delivery of the content.
What about MSNBC?
@@Mendoza1414 do you know what NPR stands for?
@@MH20T675RR no
@@Mendoza1414 I think NPR still gets some of our tax money beecause it was supposed to be about national news/unbiased. MSNBC is gross, but doesn't get our tax money. Thee only totally unbiased is C-Span becauseee on any given day we get the entire spectrum of the news, reports, actual hearings not blips.
@@Mendoza1414 Not public, NPR gets tax money.
Chrissy, NPR is NOT respected. NPR lost the plot 15-20 years ago.
NPR began its decline when they deprioritized artistic and educational content. The last segment I listened to was two years ago and it was about how the best way to lower violent crime is to abolish prisons and jails.
File under “no shit, Sherlock.”
🤣
Your other program, Rising, is great. I cannot say enough good things about that platform and the great job they all do, but especially Robby and Bri. Disagreeing is human, to shut down disagreements is fascism.
On NPR staff were 87 registered Democrats to 0 registered Republicans. WOW the BIAS!
I listen for particular entertainment and narrative programming but not the news. They will not present for consideration or fair discussion issues around conservative values and purposes.
I like NPR this one time they were talking about the Chinese in Africa. In a rare moment of clarity Terry Gross said the Chinese were hard workers and the Africans had a typical african work ethic. I wrecked my van
I was an avid listener from 2010 - 2016 ish. Every day on the commute to / from work, NPR was what I listened to. It was a breath of fresh air compared to CNN or Fox News. Around 2016 is when I noticed things changing and their journalism took a nose dive. No longer were they having credible people on to give perspectives, and no longer were they asking challenging questions. The constant interviews with Schiff on Russia collusion was probably the last straw for me.
Today, I mainly use NPR as a game with my kids. I'll ask them how many times do they think race, gender, or other identity politics will be mentioned on the drive. We all make guesses and whoever is closest wins. Usually, we underestimate.
Respect to Uri!! 👏
Big respect, he's "out of the club" now.
I use to listen to NPR all the time and slowly watched the change and changed me to think of NPR as "all things reconsidered."
I've listened to NPR, isn't it hard left?
I stopped listening to them years ago.
I would never give a penny to public radio or TV because of their bias. Take, for example Finding Your Roots. The host, who actually more than %50 white ancestry, can’t ever get through a show without referring to slavery-constant guilt trips for white people.
Journalism is dead.
The local NPR affiliates are worst
Kinda like CNN when you were there....
Yank their taxpayer funding if they can’t balance their content.
NPR killed college radio. That is enough...
NPR doesnt have room for any opinion other than its own.
Defund NPR
As for PBS, Judy Woodruff, Lisa Desjardins, etc should have been replaced years ago for their lack of neutrality.
87 democrats to 0 republicans is bad enough. But it sounds like 0 independents as well. That really sucks
Their Republican stooge is David Brooks and he is a leftist! Unreal.
Like nobody can tell what NPR and the rest of the fools are doing. NPR gets tax money. THAT SHOULD STOP.
I listened to NPR daily for 30 years and gave money at the fund raiser every year. In 2017 they were so disrespectful to president Trump I couldn’t take it anymore. Haven’t listened to them since.
Check out "All things reconsidered" - a nice series pointing out some of these problems and listing why NPR enthusiasts stopped listening.
Have never listened or watched NPR NEWS. THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LEFT LEANING.
We knew this 20 years ago.
Every single story offers something to the effect of “ disproportionately… blah blah.. black and brown, and trans people” SICK OF IT!
I listened to NPR for 20 years. Stopped listening to them about 15 years ago. Google gave me the ability to see how biased they are. Gotta ❤ how they turn off comments on youtube videos to avoid challenges to their opinions.
NPR has been absolute trash for years! 💯
You have an very deep hole to dig out of before I buy into your opinions Mr Como. A very deep hole indeed
I used to listen to NPR, not all the time but sometimes when I was driving, back 20-25 years ago. It was as Yuri described it. You knew they leaned left, but it was not hostile, it was more about intellectual curiosity. Now? They might still talk with those soft voices, but it has been radicalized.
npr+ NOT PUBLIC RADIO
Oh yes! it was 2014-2015 when I noticed that NPR suddenly went very 'Teen Vogue' in working in a very 'social justice' narrative.
Thank you sir!
NPR is a liberal think tank, who knew? 😂
I've listened to NPR since the 80s, and I used to trust them for indepth analysis that was intellectually honest, albeit with a leftward slant. NPR is still the primary station I listen to, but now I expect shallow analysis where my primary interest is in how they can twist the story to fit their narrative.
I think almost everyone understands that NPR is utter garbage. If they haven't come to that conclusion yet, it's just a matter of time.
I used to listen to NPR daily. I quite listening when NPR, and the Mothers of NPR, limited it's programing to a narrow ideology. I no longer support NPR financially. In addition, I am actively lobbying my representatives to remove NPR from our state's state and regional universities. Rather than propaganda, the university's air waves should be used for educational purposes. I urge all reasoning citizens seeking objective Truth to approach their representatives and ask that university radio stations renew their original dedication to education and take control of state property from NPR and affiliated broadcasters.
You’re at News Nation because you got FIRED, lol!!!
NPR, the college professor safe space.
NPR=National Pharma Representative
NPR has suspended him.
I started listening to NPR 30 years ago and loved it, esp. "To the Best of Our Knowledge," which gave me a window to the world and such a variety and diversity of ideas and viewpoints. That window to the world has since been replaced with a brick wall laid from the inside, upon which very biased images are projected. Such a shame.
The only time I have ever listened to Coumo
BALANCED ! ! ?
50/50
Normal and Crazy ! ! ?
We are down to a handful of fact based polite conservatives
It’s sickening that NPR is a Taxpayer Funded entity, they are clearly not representative of all Taxpayers and congress should move to correct this as soon as possible! To suspend a guy because he is honest, he should also sue them, not the taxpayer immediately!
NPR is now exposed to those who who were not paying attention all along. Duh
this story needs more exposure
Whoa - A brave editor who is morally correct about open discussion, takes on the MSM! Chris Cuomo coming clean? Now fair and balanced? Maybe there is hope for America. We can accept each other's opinions without cancel culture, and remove fear from our society at the same time. That is the America of my youth, cancel culture not really a thing, and we spoke with no fear, but interesting points of view, it is actually better and more interesting, not worse. Breakdown of open discussion is divisive. Calling each other names is divisive.
I noticed this over 40 years ago.
I'm glad Cuomo had him on.
But this interview was a good reason why I rarely watch cable news anymore. You get so much more depth and better dialog by following good UA-camrs.
He's right I've been loyal NPR listener for 20 years and I've noticed there has been a change in the last 8 years it used to be more down the line Trump ran for president
Used to listen daily. Not anymore. I'll turn it on from time to time just to check, but they are now one-sided and ideological. Pretty sad state of affairs. Really appreciate him speaking up! It's not too late to learn these lessons and do better.
I have a short comment about people who vote & the bias in the voting public. First, a beautiful woman, whom I am very fond of told me “B, I always vote democratic because my aunt, on her death bed, told me to always vote democratic so that’s what I do.”
Second, my highly educated acquaintances only watch “The Comedy News Network.”
What a revolting set of circumstances. Me thinks, especially living in Crook County Illinois, voter ID should be mandatory, a IQ test, a hearing test & a test on the constitution of the US, SHOULD BE REQUIRED.
Defund NPR!!!!
