    As a leftie, I picked up KUSA's ambi enhanced safety and it was one of the best purchases ever for my WASR. I don't use the bolt hold open often except for malfunctions or timed reloads, but man, not having to use my thumb to select fire is phenomenal. That being said, file just a tip of the rearward portion of the safety slightly oblong, and you can charge the gun by simply pulling the bolt handle further back. It'll push the safety down and then rock it back into fire with the momentum of the recoil spring. Again, as a leftie, it's a lifesaver on matches. Makes the notch far more useful.

    • @jakeh6980
      @jakeh6980 8 місяців тому

      What do you need a 70 dollar “enhanced” safety lever for if you’re left handed? Lol I’m left handed as well, and one of the top reasons why I grew up loving the platform. One of the main advantages as left handers running AKs, we already don’t have to take our hand or finger off the trigger when manipulating the safety. We never have to take our left hand off the pistol grip, or take our rifle out off our shoulder, when operating the AK in general. Operating the safety, reloading mags and operating the bolt carrier is all done by our right hand; unlike right handed shooters. And the beauty of the AK safety lever, is if it’s too stiff, you just take it out, bend it until it’s smooth and easy enough to quickly and easily flip on and off. While it may seem like it’s a “must have upgrade” right after you buy it, these enhanced safety levers are extremely unnecessary: for left handers anyway.I can see understand why a right handed shooter could benefit from having one, but lefties? 😆 70 bucks for a safety lever that gives you no real actual advantage, is just silly. But that’s my opinion on the matter

      @@jakeh6980 I use an el cheapo PSA one with a little extra ledge on it, it came with some PSA rifle I sold long ago but swapped out a milspec when I sold it. $70 is def too steep for a stamped metal safety but its not detrimental to have imo as a right handed shooter. My index finger swipes it up and down smoothly

    • @jakeh6980
      @jakeh6980 8 місяців тому

      EdwardSnortin You’re right handed correct? Because I replying to mastoner20’a comment. He mentioned he was left handed like I am. Which is why If you read my entire comment, I was explaining to him that these so called enhanced safeties are pointless for us left handers, and I pointed out that I can understand the use that right handers get out of them. But AKs are more left hander friendly, and we can manipulate the safety, reload mags and manipulate the action all with our right hand without ever having to take our rifle off our shoulder and out of shooting position. Right handers don’t have those luxuries with AKs like left handers have. The AR platform is a different story

    • @mastoner20
      @mastoner20 8 місяців тому

      @@jakeh6980 I have the KUSA ambi safety lever which has a thumb lever I can use with my left thumb. I don't like having to change my firing grip just to access the safety like I would on stock AKs. That's the only reason I spent the $35 on it to add to the rifle. Outside of that, agreed.

    if it hasnt been said yet; ive had the extending charging handle fly off on ALL my AKs. Learned this from a gunsmith; clean thoroughly the handle, the inside of the knob, and the threads on the set screw. using a small brush or popsicle stick fill the knob up alittle more than halfway with JB weld. A drop of rocksett on the set screw threads, position knob on handle. torque the screw down to high heaven. then using some small sticks pack the opening areas with more JB weld. clean and wipe off excess jb weld. let it cure. process best done with bolt/charging handle removed and cleaned. If done right its never coming off; good thing and bad thing.

    Hey brother the bolt hold open on the safety works extremely well for its intended purpose if you install bolt hold open followers in your magazines. Then you flip the saftey up and itll keep the bolt open when you release the empty mag toss in the new mag release the safety which releases the bolt and chambers the first round. Without bolt hold open followers i agree its basically useless.

Works really nicely, able to pull the whole dust cover off or just use the QD to take off the magnifier if necessary.
    Edit: Oops I lied, I have the Holosun 3x on that AK. Looks similar to the PA so I went to double check. the PA 3x is on my DD M4 w/ an Eotech.

    Unidentified optics are PK-A "Venezuela" - russian optic you can't get any more. Called "Venezuela" as it is used there as well as Russia... but some units came in from that production run (same with some Saiga's at that time) - allows co-witness and proper cheek weld (no risers needed and no chin weld like your Eotech set up) - RS Regulate makes the BEST side mounts and can keep co-witness with micro dots. Numerous railed top covers to use - but you need to use a baseless style red dot or maybe a Primary Arms prism to keep your head low and not require a stock with risers etc (that is a band-aid solution to using the incorrect style optics) Lights - numerous ways to mount - railed grips (aluminum or poly - some argue the aluminum ones will keep the barrel cooler longer as they act as a heat sink). I like to keep mine fairly minimalist.

    Thats one of two things i would change out on my AK at the moment, the dustcover for a TWS one.
    The trigger is gonna be changed to in a few months when Mimtac releases their AK trigger. I tried it at IWA and its just as awsome as the AR trigger.
    I got the Krebs custums safety in the thumb/trigger finger variant, that way i can run the safety more easily.
    Saw a safety from Armacon, same concept as the Krebs only that one does not have the bolt hold open slot.
    Could always take a standard safety and put a little extender on it to get something similair i guess.

    The TWS also has fore and aft adjustment in the hinge piece on the dust cover with the 2 screws. As well as in the hinge block where it splits where the take down pin goes through. Take a screwdriver and a hammer to open it up or carefully squeeze it in a vice to adjust it for the front of the dust cover. All 3 of those adjustments will lock it down tight on the gun. Mine is on rock solid. Also dont use pliers to adjust the tab on the back, use a small adjustable crescent wrench adjusted to fit the tab for minimal damage to the finish.

    So mine is a VSKA with magpul furniture and the TWS dust cover, with a sig romeo red dot. I also threw in an enhanced recoil spring and a braided trigger spring.
    So it's pretty difficult to do the reach around charge with how stiff it is, and it's got an enhanced safety.
    I've got over 5k rounds with no issues, a few stove pipes depending on the ammo, usually the coated ammo.
    What I noticed was how beefed up and heavy it was compared to the PSA AKs. My buddy brought 2 PSAs and they were so light but every part was so much thinner than on the vska.
    And the VSKA was literally my first rifle ever. I got that and a glock 19 when I bought a gun for the 1st time. VSKA is great.

    From an engineering prospective the TWS dust cover is just kind of a shitty way to get that job done, and has the potential to cause problems over time. The best way to have a hinged top cover is to have it connected to a solid mounting point, and the use of a spring in one direction and one half solid half loose point of contact just isint enough to rely on

    Yea my kusa kr103 sidefolder has around 5k rounds I ordered it the first day they put them on the site. And it has no wear marks at all on the bolt and front trunnion. Just the finish is wearing off on the bolt and carrier don't no how the finish on the outside of the gun is holding up cause I spray painted it over a year ago. I use it for my drill ak running courses so it gets run alot more and alot harder than the rest of my aks. To be honest the internal wear is holding up better than most my imports that have less rounds down it then the 103. And I run extended polish safety on all my aks. I have had Krebs but I don't like the curved shelf. I like the flat shelf like on the polish extended safetys

    I have a Norinco MAK 90 and I installed a Tapco pistol grip, Tapco hand guard and a 6 position stock, I like it very much, I don’t care what anyone says or thinks they don’t pay my bills..

    Dumb question, is there a point behind having an AK now that there is limited ammo available and what ammo is available is expensive as hell?

      As an American, range toy. It’s cool to have and it’s still a semi auto mag fed rifle, just one not as versatile or common as an AR.

    The Century Arms BFT47 utilizes a cutout in the safety selector as well; and while I can agree it's not THAT useful. It does come in handy when using any sort of pull-through style cleaning system.

    I've got a Romy G that my dad and I built out into a 103ish clone, mostly the poly folding stock. Soviet Arms railed gas tube and a romeo 5 w/ monstrum light. I like it, I'm haven't been too sure about the railed gas tube as an optics host lately though. May go with a dog leg or Attero arms rear sight mount.

    I don't understand why more manufacturer's don't come up with something similar to the Zenitco design of the extended charging handle. I initially went with the KUSA handle on one of my AK's- Loctite and cranked it down until the hex key it shipped with broke; thing still flew off within a couple magazines. The Zenitco "contained clamshell" design doesn't rely purely on brute force to keep the thing on. I just wish we could still import directly from them so they didn't cost $100.

    2:46 - an AK Barrel is NEVER "free floated". Being "non-free floated" is inherent to the design. The gas tube is ALWAYS fixed to the barrel and the receiver (compare to an AR gas tube that is always floating and also way, way less rigid). The extra contact points of the traditional handguard are way less of a factor than the gas tube being fixed.
    No offense, but this is kinda basic firearms stuff.

    You probably already know this, but you can get the PSA enhanced AK safety for less money. After I got my PSA AK pistol I wanted my WASR-10 to have the same type of safety so I bought one from PSA. I'm not a huge AK guy but they do get used. I definitely shoot my AR's more though, but it seems to work fine. I know Krebs stuff is expensive.

    The dog leg rails do hold zero excellently. My only complaint with them is that they do not seal the receiver as well as the stock dust covers do, at least in the case of my M70.

    The pa micro magniifer wont overlap with the charging handle relief cut on the dust cover and you wont even know its there when charging the weapon because the front of the optic doesn't sit forward of the trigger

    23:50 Even Airsoft can have real grips though - Gas Blow Back Rifle (GBBR) has no motor, so it can mount real parts on it.
    I have basically a GBBR copy of my KC AK-103 with obviously airsoft parts, as spending money on real Zenitco for Airsoft is just dumb tbh. I run it a lot on airsoft fields here and it did teach me a lot on how to setup my kit etc, and it is also great "dry fire" exercise.
