    That was bloody BRILLIANT!
    Nobody seems to have any love for late 80s watches and i remember at school there were 2 distinct camps - the nerds wearing Casios, or the cool kids wearing the new fangled Swatch.
    I was in the nerd camp and my databank calculator watch is STILL my essential watch when on holiday. Got all my phone numbers, time zones, alarms, exchange rates etc. I could literally lose my phone and still survive! Gotta love old casios.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  11 місяців тому +1

      They all had their time and place. Todays kids will have no real memories of watches other than a smart one which is a tragedy. I have done a few Casio videos now and my most successful one was of a Casio melody alarm watch. I think it did well purely on nostalgia.

      @@MyRetroWatches ahh yes, I didn't have a melody but it's on my list to pickup ( they all did "the yellow rose of Texas" lol ).

      My 80s nerd watch had 12 melodies, but some douche nicked it during a PE lesson (I'm still feeling the emotion!) :-( I find a countdown timer is still really handy to have on your wrist. :-)

      @@Jimbaloidatron I never thought of that, a rolling count down timer is a great way to find a lost watch, just wait for it to beep!

    DTMF tones are still used in the legacy telephone system, and are also used in certain amateur radio applications. And yeah, that's nostalgic, for sure!

    This last week I refurbished an early 80's Pulsar diver, new crystal, tidying up the dial and hands, polished the case and hot water dipped the Seiko plastic strap and man it looks like new. I am going to sort out a new facebook account and just use it for the group as I am missing you lot so much lol Been regulating a 1950's Kienzle pocket watch tonite, running a touch fast but nailed it spot on and doing a resto on a quite nice Seiko 7009, chapter ring was snapped and the date window surround was loose so been using my GS cement to affix them both on and giving the case, cavity, Seiko Japan original bracelet a thorough clean and putting it all back together tomorrow and another Seiko salvaged :D

      Sounds like you are doing some good work there. Yes please just set up a dummy account on FB for groups. I recommend this to people who want to avoid the app. You can add as much or as little on a profile as you want. No one will see it unless you add friends anyway. One note please put a picture on your account , can be of a watch. Just when we admin the group if an account looks too bland we can mistake it for a "bot "account (trust me there are plenty) There are a few very easy join questions to answer and that is for us to know you are a human being on the other end!

    This will work on any phone that has a dial tone (so won't work from a mobile). On very old phones you can hear the dial tone when you lift the hand set. On modern phones (like the one in your office) you will need to press '0' on the key pad then activate the watch. When storing the phone numbers in the watch drop the '0'. This will work and can call mobile phones...but only if your phone has a dial tone. Hope that makes sense.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  11 місяців тому

      No my office phone has a dial tone when lifting off the base. Its because its a new digital BT line over internet rather than the old way. We as a business have been forced to go that way believe it or not. Was not a choice.

    Edit: for Electronics like this and cleaning 91% to 99% Rubbing/Isopropyl Alcohol is what you want to use to clean it as it won't harm the parts in anyway and evaporates without a trace. 👌

    Those are the DTMF frequencies. Payphones, and alanloge Landlines did work well with them. I "cracked" a Payphone in the early days when I got a similar device, and dialed a number that way. Just a month later, the payphone was replaced with a newer type which did not do that anymore. Seems the telco company got hold of it. 😞 PTT was it back then.
