I recently purchased a very new looking (possibly new-old stock) DB-55W which is the black resin version of this watch. It says Japan on the front and has the inadequate yellow light. It does gain about 1.4 seconds per day (you won't be late!) and I find the appointment function very useful. The phone databank serves as a small backup of my phone.
Nice purchase. I really like the DB-55W. I too acquired one recently so maybe I should review it sometime soon. The time gain can be adjusted by turning a tiny screw on the back of the module. That could also be a "how to" video. It is unfortunate that most reviewers of data bank watches use the "outdated by smart phones and watches" bandwagon. I personally think that Data Banks still have a place in today's high tech world, especially when a lot of work places are now limiting mobile phone usage due to distraction. Thank you Sean for sharing your comments.
my watch is from '89. I got it from my uncle, with a receipt and instruction manual. I was born in '89. my uncle gave me this watch about 10 years ago. This watch is indestructible. It has its priceless history.
I have just bought one of these second hand from eBay, and I love it. Not sure if mine is old or new - it says "Data Bank 50" and "World Time" on the front, but it also has a tiny "Japan N" on the front and "Japan J" on the back.
So you have the very old original one. You have the material real made from the 80s. Casio serials in the 80s was indicate as Japan J at the back. With another serial. And that was from I think 1987. Congrats.
Have the reissue of the DB-520. It's made in Korea, didn't know that they still made watches there. Also the original one has a shadowy display while the reissue has more of a clear display. I believe that the DBA-800 was actually a modified DB-520. Water resist on Casios mean 30 metres water resistant.
Nice Review Thx! I am still have use the original version, my Dad bought to me around '88 or '89, i'm changed the socket already twice but it's ok because i'm using this more than 30 years every day! Now i'm need one more socket change because the bottom right button is not working anymore, and i'm want to use this little casio in 2029 as well :) great little watch
Hi! Great video. You have a new subscriber. I used to have the original when I was in elementary school (watch fan from an early age). Now I have the reissue and it says "made in china". IMHO these is one of the best modules for a digital watch. If G-Shock would use this module in one of their models, I would jump over it in an instant. Best Regards!!
@@digitalcasio2704 hey there. this model is fantastic but have you been able to get this db520 to display in 24 hour format? when I press the lower right button I only get the memo function. much appreciated.
Casio movements of the same design are given a similar number and appear/re-appear all over in history. Not sure of the limit. I'm very confused about the 388 movement at the moment.
DB520a arrived today, 👍 I noticed at 90 degrees it's blurry, with a slight tilt it's clear, it's seems normal from what I have searched, catches me out everytime! Blurry, I guess when I stop holding it upto my face and use it at a glance it will make sense? Still great to have one, even tho it's not 90 degree friendly 🤷 cheers !
I found my Casio VDB 101 touch screen in the attic, so I checked eBay to see how similar watches are priced these days, a trend seems to be there of people selling "new old stock", one guy I found is...downgrading his watch collection, selling "original" Casio watches, 200 quid, 300 quid etc, he has 100 percent feedback, not recently, but going back a long time from thousands of people, so I doubt they're fake reviews, but I decided to check his feedback as a buyer, he's buying Casio watches made 5 minutes ago, some of those sellers are selling the exact same as his "original" watches for 30 quid around, I can on!y see first and last letters as eBay hides the full name, but some match his name going by that.
Collectors can get carried away buying up watches. Then they realize they have too many and need to downsize but the urge to buy more is still there. Of course there are some people that flip them for a profit.
Does the "new" version have trimmer/speed adjust inside? I have found on mine old watches tat you can adjust it, in the new DB-380 (quite bad watch) there is none. Nice video, sub!
Does the new DB-520A have the calendar which extends past 2019? My DB-500 (original from the 1980s) only goes to 2019. It's truly outlived it's lifespan! Currently my DB-500 doesn't have a working light or sound. But I believe the sound is fixed by a spring. No idea about the light other than trying ACL and a new battery. Any suggestions, anyone?
@@digitalcasio2704 Yeah. I don't know if this the case or not . I also realised my DB500 is missing a piece of plastic which goes inside the back and helps the buttons to work properly. The two buttons on the front didn't work but I did resolve it by padding it with a little cotton wool.
@@digitalcasio2704 one man on Amazon wrote that DB-520A-1ADF goes to 2029, while DB-520A-1AUZ has perpetual calendar. It seems like different revisions. Is it true?
Hello... Just acquired this model from flea market, not working condition. Put a new battery, it burst to life. But few hours later, battery indicator is flashing. Change the battery again with the new one. Same thing happened again, this time battery indicator is flashing, some time it's not. Any idea what's happened here? What should I check? Oh and I check the 1st battery that I put on, it's still 3.08 V. Seems like the battery is not the problem.
Had a DB520 back in the day, sold it ! Many regrets. Getting the A version tommrow, however, looking at your presentation I can't help but notice, the original has a much clearer screen, bigger fonts, bolder, deeper background, the A version seems washed out? Thin? Again I regret selling mine O dear, Still I'm looking forward to seeing one on my wrist 🙂 it's been a while I just know it will make a great beta watch 🙏🏼
In general, are the records in any Casio data bank watch stored in some permanent storage or are they stored in volatile storage? If the battery runs out, will the records still be stored in the watch or will they disappear?
Hi, my DB520 says Data Bank 50, but has Japan written under WORLD TIME. It also has the normal natural coloured light...it has a J marked on the back too.
I'm feeling nostalgia for my Data Bank when I was a kid. It was black but now I only see them in gold or silver. PS: what do you think of the DB-30 and DB-31?
Hi! All the appointments in the memo (birthdays, doctor etc..) have to be yearly? Or you can save them as daily in some way? I'd like to use them as daily alarms apart from the main alarm one.
Hello Friend. It remained to talk about the function that exists in the phonebook, the 4-number code, which serves to protect the phonebook. If by chance you spoke, I'm sorry... but I don't understand English. A hug from Daniel from Brazil.
Ebay would be the best place. This watch is common and can be picked up for a reasonable price. I would look for a parts watch that works for you and swap parts around as needed.

Great video man, very informative my friend!! I too, love my old Casio's also!!
Not true about the telememo 50 being the “old” one. There were just 2 different versions, like the 158w and 159w.
Thanks for that. Someone else said they had a Japanese version of what I said was the "new" one. That just makes me want to get the variations. 🙂
The Casio DB380G is a better watch...It's got the best 80,s retro look and is a sleeker/less bulky watch to wear.

I think they disappear. But if the battery lasts 4 or 5 years, well, not too much trouble to enter the numbers again.
