I'm a EZ fan, had a little bit of work done on my 06 legacy, traveled NZ over 20 times, I have broken 3, 6 speed boxes racing , im NZ Born a bread ECB north shore . Love my subaru , so does Toyota lol
I don't know for sure if it will fit the GT86 gearbox, but the EZ30 engine was available with a manual transmission in Japan, so you can get a clutch and flywheel designed for that engine and it's power and torque levels. It might hold up better than the FA20 clutch you put in. Just something to keep in mind the next time it needs replacing.
we have plenty of manual ez30s here (we are basically japans scrapyard) but they are quite a different clutch design, push vs pull. We'll see how this clutch holds up, but upgrades are easy enough
Will removing the cover for the injectors damage anything? Any negative issues associated with that? You mentioned it can make the engine a bit louder and considering doing that.
Hell yeah! Are the engine mounting points all the same? What are your thoughts on the EZ36? Obviously you had the 30 already but the 36's are pretty cheap to obtain also.
yes all the mounting points are the same. the 36s are rather hard to come by in my part of the world. It would be the same amount of work so defiantly worthwhile. The 30s are a little more rev happier and potentially sound better as a result, otherwise i cant think of any downsides. a fully build ez36 with high CR and big cams would be pretty awesome!
@@inflameswetrust2194 There’s more to it than that, the crank is different (weaker) too. Doesn’t make it inferior, just depends on what your goals are. The 36’s oiling system is much better than the 30s.
Awesome swap, mate!! How's the transmission holding up so far? Any particular reason that you didn't go with the EJ/EZ 6spd? With a RWD spool, they should be a lot more beefier than 86/brz's 6 speed, don't you think? The only downside I can think of is the weight and the some modification for the swap itself.
its holding up perfect so far. seeing as i mainly use it on gravel, it doesnt see the same loads as you would on tarmac. Yeah exactly as you say, they are certainly heavier and dont bolt strait in. If i end up having problems, then ill look into it
I am playing with EZ30 swap into a spaceframe build. In South Africe we got Spitronics ECU. I need the data on the Injectors if you can share it please. Looking forward to the headers. Good luck.
Honestly considering either this swap or a volvo t5... Whats this weight all together and does ac fit still? Is there enough room without redoing the cooling package completely?
the 6 cylinder is slightly heavier as you would expect, dont know the numbers but its not significant. you may need custom AC lines plenty of room for the cooling package
@@hawes_power5590 thanks I actually found a blown car yesterday and eh well I have a spare built t5 so I made an adapter plate tonight lol. I think the 300tq at 2500rpm fixes what I hate about the car. And the t5 is about 100lbs lighter than the fa and about 80lbs less than the ez30. Having a few fast Volvos and lots of parts I can throw together a nice punchy 350hp motor for damn near free at this point.
I’m curious about if the cornering speed, the steering in general it’s been affected by the swap of the motor. Does it feel heavier or worst at driving or it is considerably faster at every point ?
@@hawes_power5590 thanks for answering man, i hope to get this car one day and if I decide at any moment to make it a swap this is one of the options for me
Ez30 stock headers apparently flow terrible. 3 into 1, bad meeting point and very small diameter. First thing to replace when tuning ez30. Epic work!
Should've watched the whole thing before commenting hahaha
@@yesnomaybe3372 haha yep
glad someone agrees with me that the BRZ needed a flat6
suits it perfectly in my opinion!
Man it honestly could have been as good as a 90’s JDM car if it have came from factory with a flat 6
Yeah a 2jz

I was just talking to a buddy about doing this swap. Badass!
I just bought a 2014 brz that i want to do this swap, ill be following your videos close
Great work, thanks Willy!
Awesome Japanese Porsche
Great video I’m definitely gonna do this swap, just subscribed thanks.
Love the I've been going at this all day long look.
love this

no downsides that i can tell, it appears to be only there to dampen the tapping noise of the injectors.

36's have their displacement gain through controd shape. This results in a weak conrod. The ez30r (plastic intake) is the better engine.

My friend swapped an EG33 into his sti and slapped a massive turbo on it.

Hey! Quick question. For which engine/car does de flywheel and the clutch needs to be ?
Subaru sti for both ? Sti flywheel with gt86 clutch ? Thanks
i used both the 86 clutch and flywheel

Im not familiar with the spitronics ecu. does that have modelled fueling? or traditional pulse width controlled?
The motor just bolted right in???? I’m doing this swap as well just wish the ecu wasn’t super expensive lol
yep bolts right in. you can use a Haltech which is alot cheaper than a motec and has the 86 CAN protocol
The 86/BRZ platform has the same engine bay as Imprezas from the 90s :) pretty much everything Subaru has built in the modern era will bolt in
Nice work!

I dont notice the extra weight. the extra power is awesome, its how i feel they should have come from the factory.

Just wondering, but how come you didn't do FA24 shortblock and use your FA20 head?
I cant think of any good reason to do that...
Would you recommend doing this swap.?
Yeah its a great swap
Considering this, or a 4.8ls for my tired 2008 impreza 2.5i. Rings are so shot I randomly burn 5 quarts of oil in 52 miles. Haha.
sounds like standard Subaru operating procedure haha
@hawes_power5590 well it is still going after 100k miles. Just 15w40 conventional and the burn slowed way down. Straight 40w ate too much mpg
Can you keep the ac compressor and have A/C hooked up in the car (same controls and dials as stock)?
It would be a little more customisation with both the wiring and the mechanical lines. but not a big deal in the scheme of things
What ECU are u using brother ?
watch the video and you'll find out
Hi! How different would be an ez36 Swap?
it would be the same process
This is one step closer to it being a svx all it will need is awd
maybe one day haha
gearbox?
factory 86
I feel attacked 😂
those bad days are behind you!
@hawes_power5590 I mean I still have the same clutch just a grunty gearbox now 🤣
if its a toyota keep it toyota, with a far more reliable and boost freindly tacoma 3.5 liter v6.
the factory motor aint a toyota...
I know that. that's why I won't buy one.
