I picked up one of these recently in a converted cabinet and it quickly became one of my favorites despite it being promoted as family friendly and nonviolent. I thought it would be kind of lame, but it won me over. It is surprising how accurate it is in the way of having to actually use the sights on the pistols to hit your target. It is challenging too once you progress far enough.
I remember this game!
So nice being able to play this on the Dreamcast now. Shout-out to megavolt for making it happen!
That's pretty cool that they pulled that off...
I loved this video, thank you =) what a great game!
No problem Boojakascha, glad you enjoyed it :)
You might not care about this, but I found it absolutely shocking that after being a fan of this game for many years, it is only now when I revitalized my interest in Sammy Sega (Sonic movie was the driving force) AND being a firearms enthusiast for years do I discover a few interesting aspects about this game.
This is basically an IPSC game. The categories are based off of real divisions within the confederation. Open, Standard, and Revolver all exist in real life, but the Modified division might be based off of an older division which doesn't exist anymore. In its place, the Classic and Production division exist as of the time of this comment.
Three of these guns shown in the divisions (the difficulty modes Beginner/Normal/Expert) are based off of old STI models. The Open and Standard are based off of 2011 custom pistols and the Standard based off of a long 1911 pistol they no longer sell. The Texas-based company, STI, has changed their name to Staccato since then, which is their most successful line of pistols, seemingly.
The Revolver division (Master mode) gun is based off of a very special, extremely rare modified Dan Wesson Action Cup revolver. These revolvers are not made anymore as of the time of this comment, so any that still do exist are very rare and (hopefully) well cared for. While these guns are an absolute dream to shoot, they are also very limited in ammo, so the shots must count, which is why it is the hardest mode.
I'm commenting here and not another channel because most other channels simply do not appreciate the game as much as you do (with the seeming exception of 302RELL). I see a few vids of this game if you search for it, but many are just handcam footage and emulation. Your appreciation of the cabinet and the light guns is cool, and even though you don't own this cabinet anymore, this is among one of the most special arcade games to me that has ever existed, sitting alongside classics like the Street Fighter Alpha series, the Time Crisis series, F-Zero AX, Virtua On, and Wangan Midnight.
That's very cool CMP I was wondering how true to an actual competition it was. I mentioned it in the video I believe, but one of the reasons they made this game was because it's non violent, some parents did not want their kids playing games that were violent but everybody loves a shooting game... it's also as you're aware good for adults too who may or may not get the competition aspect of it. Thanks for all the info, glad you enjoyed the video!
I remember playing this before honestly
They made a bunch of them! Thank you for watching!
@@LyonsArcade you are very welcome
"Non-violent, non-aggressive shooting game"? Who ever heard of such an absurdity? :) No seriously, it looks like fun. Especially when the speed picks up. I wonder how it works technically, ie. obtaining a (precise) screen-coordinate from the spatial position/orientation of the gun. Thanx for the vid!
It just works how all lightguns worked back when they used CRT's, you pull the trigger which makes the screen flash, and your gun is pointed a certain way... the monitor starts refreshing the screen by making each pixel flash as it scans the 'flash' across the screen. When it gets to the area that the light sensor in your gun is aimed at, it informs the board that the light sensor just saw the flash, and the board knows because of the scan of the CRT what general area the gun must be pointed at. EASY PEASY
When you say "flash", is there anything visible to see on the screen or does the sensor just detect a sudden "rise" in intensity as the CRT-beam scans by during normal "recharging of the phosphor" (ie. drawing the frame)? The latter ought to be unreliable for dark/black regions (little intensity increase to detect on an almost discharged phosphor). If it is (as you say) a flash (like 1 frame of pure white), that would be easily detectable for the sensor but annoying to look at? I don't see any "flashing" on the video, but perhaps that single frame get lost on youtube conversion. Sorry for asking dumbass questions...
Watch the video when I'm playing it, when you pull the trigger the whole screen flashes white.
Totally see it now, and it all makes sense. Never noticed it on the first watch. Feel slightly silly for my 2nd comment, but hey, guess that's me sometimes :) Thanx for the patience!
No problem!
I believe this was made in their waning days before they merged with Sega.
I believe you are correct.
It was Sammy that bought Sega; Sega was broke during the Dreamcast era.
Three more facts: Bandai bought Namco, Koei bought Tecmo, and Konami is a very profitable company without their video game division, the part of Konami most Americans only know about since the majority of Konami's non-gaming businesses don't exist in America.
The companies that American gamers believe are the top dogs in the industry (e.g. Sega, Namco and Tecmo) are actually the broke-ass companies that needed to be rescued by wealthier, more popular (in Japan/Asia), and profitable game companies (Sammy, Koei, Bandai and Konami) that American gamers erroneously believe are lesser companies just because they are obscure in America.
Thanks Tempora!
Just wondering do you own any cabinets yourself for a personal collection? I figure you might have taken some of these home if no one buys them
They alwayyyyys buy them eventually :) I do have a few games at my house, but in general my showroom is my own personal arcade so I play them for awhile and don't mind selling them when somebody comes in that's interested in one. I've got a Ms. Pac-Man, a Nintendo Playchoice, an Atari Breakout, a Williams 1967 "Beat Time" Pinball, and a Wurlitzer 2410 Jukebox in my house :)
Cool :)
I want to get one of these. How hard is it to move this cabinet? Looks like it would be hard to get it on a hand cart. Is it really heavy. Just wondering how cumbersome it is to move. Thanks.
It's not that bad actually, it's nowhere near as heavy as most of them are, I would guess 250 pounds or so, and it has a handle at the top on the back, it sits on a handtruck really well and isn't that cumbersome. We move games all the time though so we're used to it, but it's one of the easier ones to move.
Could you put another shooter in it like area 51? Are they jamma
Yes they're Jamma.
@@LyonsArcade thank you
I don't believe your calibration saved. You have to click the trigger again and calibrate the second gun. Then it tells you to click to save the settings.
DOH!!! Luckily I sold it to a pro who said they were going to re calibrate it, lol.
Are you selling the shooting game?
Sorry, we already sold it awhile back.
Do you know where to get replacement pistols?
Unfortunately i'm not aware of anyplace that sells them.
