  • I recently stepped out of my comfort zone and completely changed my life. I explain what this has involved, what's changed for me, and why this kind of thing is important for anyone who wants to improve their life.
My name's Martin Sketchley. I'm a published novelist, writer, editor and professional B2B content creator with 30 years' experience across business, fiction, other non-fiction, scriptwriting and education.

Stepping out of my comfort zone was the first time I had my writing published and then again when I was having my first novel edited

I joined a local concert band . I play intermediate level flute, so I purchased a pro level flute and began to be serious about practice. I am 71 and time is no longer infinite, as I thought it was. The band is dedicated and community involved . All my comfort zones are being challenged. I had a stroke 5 years ago, life changed on that day and I choose recovery . This decision was presented to me by doing daily journaling. I am grateful , pages are my self revelation zone. ❤

Great story. I'm 56 and time is no longer infinite, as I once thought it was! I played the flute too, when I was at school. I'm afraid I wasn't even intermediate level: "there are some very funny noises coming from second flutes..." Where are you now, Mrs Spooner?

Thank you so much. I really needed to hear this about the morning pages. Mornings aren't a good time for me so I completely gave them up. They were helping me but at the same time creating anxiety because I was trying to be so rigid. It feels like you have given me confirmation that, no, I don't have be so strict. Thank you so much for giving me your insight. Glad the new job is working out so well.🎉 Congratulations 🎉🎉

Glad the new life phase is working out for you! I'm glad your personal writing journey has gained something out of it as well. I've gone off the wagon on my Morning Pages, not because I didn't enjoy them but because I found myself seeing them as chores. I switched to a Stoic written meditation practice instead, and it's working for me... for now.
Ebb and flow, isn't it great when we accept life moves and changes and us embracing it makes things more exciting? (Says the person who dislikes changes in routine, haha)

I don't think anyone really likes change that much. And if MPs aren't working for you, you're right not to do them. Who knows, maybe some time you'll return...
