    Here in Australia we have made penalties for drink driving so severe that its resulted in a 50% reduction in drink related road deaths. The fines start at $1000 for low range, up to $5000 for high range. The minimum suspension is 3 months and high range is 3 years. For a repeat offence is a car confiscation and jail time. Someone on the Ls or Ps its a zero limit. We do mass roadside breath tests where we block a road usually near a hotel and breath test everybody. Every traffic stop results in a breath and drug test.

      Sadly too many still slip through the cracks here... My brother was hit by one 8 years ago, dead at the scene but revived, catastrophic injuries to his entire body & brain, now paraplegic & had to have a leg amputated, in hospital up to a dozen times a year (sometimes for months) & the ongoing complications are sooo debilitating. His quality of life & mental health are poor. And thanks to our woefully inadequate sentencing laws, the drunk got 17 months in jail & lost his licence for 9 months, then went back to living his normal life.

      I watch some of the Australian police shows and the fines are staggering compared to UK ones, sometimes 10x more. I also didn’t know that AU police can give up to $3500 in fines at the roadside, which converted into UK money is £1700, which is a lot.

    I was wondering why in my country people don't drink and drive, of course there are exceptions, but in general we don't drink and drive. It's because of the fines, we pay thousands of euros other than prohibition to drive and less points. Hundred pounds? That's what have to change

    With the car that hit the telegraph pole, space saver tyres are a terrible idea. I always fit a full tyre as a spare the first thing when I buy a car. I recently bought a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The furst day i had it, a good used wheel and tyre were put in the spare tyre well.

    • @gar6446
      @gar6446 2 місяці тому

      Especially when the wheel is as small as a fiat 500.
      It's not space saver, it's cost saver for the manufacturers.
      They should not be legal.
      I k ow there's speed limits for them but people are just too dim, and just revert to habits when driving.

      @@gar6446 I've only ever used a spare space saver once and that was because the garage had to send away for a new tyre to suit my particular car, but it came within three days. I never drive far though, and never at speed.
