The memories are themselves a blessing of hunting, and a goal is to create more memories, good or educational. A lot of funny stuff happens in the mind in the predawn dark, and way too many times it was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud. Here’s a funny memory of mine for you all to enjoy: While bow hunting some years ago, I was against a squirrel’s favorite tree, and he let me know his displeasure by barking into my one ear, then moving around the back to the other ear, and then staring me down with his face just inches from mine. I stayed still the whole time hoping he wouldn’t attack, but when he left I couldn’t help falling over laughing! Stuff like this is why hunting is the journey it is.

And just think the last video was a topper. This one is even a better topper. Meaning how great you come across my goals and success this year were not only harvesting for animals but processing them a lot of guys shoot deer today take them to the processor and move on with the next the hunt starts when you let go of the arrow or the bullet and then the work begins. That’s the true meaning of success, when you’re able to harvest the animal and follow it through to the end regardless of what planes that are in front of you in life when you take an animals life, you should make time for it. That’s a measure of true success.

Always learn something every year. And enjoy the excitement of bucks/deer coming into bow range. So every year is a success.

My my main goal in deer hunting is learning, next is to get enough meat to make it until next season, then comes bucks, sure I go out hoping for a big buck everytime, but if I find some sort of intel or I shoot a nice doe during the hunt it’s still a positive hunt. I shot a big buck this year, but I’m honestly more proud of the realization of how it came to be rather than the antlers. It was a valuable lesson and unforgettable experience.

Curious if you think that the Word of God has any input on what goals hunters should set?

It should influence every decision you make. Hunting can be very ego driven which isn't good.

My success is living up to the standards of "WHY" I am hunting. If I cant fulfill why I hunt, then what's the point? I hunt to enjoy time with my family and the challenge of archery hunting and in nature. If that is not possible, then I'm just failing regardless of the size of the deer I shoot. For me its all about legacy and sharing in the experience of the challenge of hunting deer.

Success can be achieved. But carries a big price tag paid with time, money, family, health, and friends. Many say it's not worth it after reaching it. Any old man will tell you how he wishes he had done things differently.

Success for is filling a freezer. Putting big antlers on the wall doesn’t fill my family’s belly’s.
