This was about TV rights, you dolt. It was 0.0% related to NIL in any shape or fashion. Your hot take is just some knucklehead that can’t stand the thought of players getting paid (for nothing but stupid reasons) and finding a way to twist any and every situation into it being the fault of NIL, even when it’s transparently moronic to try.
This has absolutely nothing to do with NIL. I am 100% against Saudis being involved in CFB, if you read my comment on this video, but you are delusional or stupid if you think that the two are in any way related. Not only is it a 'slippery slope' fallacy, but it doesn't even make sense. It is because of sports-washing, not because of NIL, cupcake.
A couple of things for all of us to keep in mind. Number 1: The Saudi’s have only infiltrated sports thus-far that are culturally relevant to them. F1 racing, Soccer, & Golf are played around the world. American football is not. Number 2: If the Saudi’s were to be interested in American football, it would likely be with the NFL & not college. Number 3: The current TV deals in both the NFL & college are massive and generate hundreds of millions in revenue already. They don’t need the Saudi’s unlike the PGA & F1 did. In conclusion I think this is a bit more far fetched then some would make it seem. College football would have to become a culturally relevant part of Saudi Arabia in order for there to be real interest on that side. And I just don’t see that ever happening. The NFL being infiltrated is a much more likely scenario.
Agree 100 percent. I think Josh is panicking a bit here. Hard to see what benefit there is to the Saudis of bankrolling a CFB conference or team. I usually like his show but his zeal to preserve CFB creates some massive blind spots. No one outside the U.S. cares or knows a thing about college football. To call it an "inevitability" is crazy to me.

Valid questions. Valid answers. Buckle the fu@$ up and pick a side.
My question is what do the Saudis get for funding an American sport on American ground that mostly only Americans watch? What real benefit does it have for them? Golf and soccer, etc are all worldwide sports that Saudis watch and want some market in amongst their peers. Cfb has nothing for them.
the issue with Saudis investing in college football - they want to invest in sports with international appeal. They want access to Fortune 500 deal makers. College football doesn't really deliver either. PIF ain't here to just give away money. They want to put their substantial wealth to work and grow that money.
This doesn’t make any sense. If you said that the big Shoe industry or Gambling were likely to try this I would lean in…but they have the most to gain and probably could actually get away with it…& haven’t yet. Golf is an international concern..CFB and sports are a way more domestic asset. Rinse this argument off and try it again with more realistic possibilities
Leave it to the NCAA to allow NIL without any rules and guidelines. This thing is getting out of hand more and more. At this point we don't even need the NCAA. Their influence is slowly fading.
Well this is as political as I'm ever gonna get on this channel. I already regret it lol. To be clear, I'm not a fan the Saudi gov, but there's some context that always missing in these conversations. Not only is America guilty of similar thing on a scale that Saudi Arabia could never even aspire to, but America is complicit and a willing participant in a lot of things you think Saudi Arabia is so evil for. The difference is they're a Muslim country and their style is a little more Game of Thrones than ours, but there's a lot of ppl around the world look at the US like we look at Saudi Arabia. And those ppl are worried about way more important things than their fav sport getting ruined.
Slight correction - substitute "US Federal Government" for "America". Americans (for the most part) are fantastic, charitable, caring people...dare I say more than any other nationality. But our Federal Govt is the mafia with aircraft carriers.
Saudi making major chess moves. Seeking to take control of the most American thing which is college football. Saudi wins all the way around with this move. America takes a major L.
If I had to consider the morality or political goals of every company or institution I do business with, I suppose I'd end up huddled in a corner, an unshaven Howard Hughes lookalike. I'd rather tune in to the game and not think about the implications.
Foriegn monarchs investing in U.S. academic institutions just spells trouble. There should probably be some legislation to limit this. Corporate investment is already casting a bad shade on college football by stamping their names all over everything, controlling tailgating, etc. Imagine the stipulations they'll place on everything from the top of the athletic departments all the way down to the fans. Not interested.
That’s not even an issue, when you consider that your team is gonna be made up of kids who have high test scores... good luck with an offensive line average weight of 210....lol

However, the PIF isn't owned by Marvel and relevance is a term of convenience for those who believe their sport is above being tainted. Pate State is, as per usual, ahead of the curve.
If they do it’ll be the end. I hope football never gains traction internationally.
This is happening.
Exactly!!!
They're trash period. You wasted a paragraph. Yes americans are arrogant, but saudi is legit trash end of discussion.
When Saudi Arabia University and UOfUAE join the Sec we'll know its real then
Just want to see Tennessee win the National Championship before the world turn completely to shit .
Too late
Getting that arAb monaaay
Ughhh
They already run boxing 🥊 with MBS and Turki Al-Ashikh
Well, I will throw in the towel if this happens. Money has ruined the sport.
I don’t like hearing this at all
Foriegn monarchs investing in U.S. academic institutions just spells trouble. There should probably be some legislation to limit this. Corporate investment is already casting a bad shade on college football by stamping their names all over everything, controlling tailgating, etc. Imagine the stipulations they'll place on everything from the top of the athletic departments all the way down to the fans. Not interested.
This will happen in another two - three years.
That’s not even an issue, when you consider that your team is gonna be made up of kids who have high test scores... good luck with an offensive line average weight of 210....lol
