I have used one of these ( a newer one from the 90's and it was loud heavy and tiring. I have used the Outback and the Bachtold mower which is slow with only one speed but works great and is easy to use and maintain. The DR All Terrain Mower though is by far the best. It is well balanced, operator friendly and not complicated. Reliable and works great. Mows at 3" and looks like a lawn or park afterwards.
My brother just bought an old one like that and it runs great! But I would like to change the oil is the drain plug that large plug at the bottom of the engine? And also do you know how much oil it takes? Thanks Ben
I don't know if your mower deck has a removable rear semicircular vertical section or not but when cutting tall brush like you're doing it works much better if you remove the full-sized rear guard and replace it with the shorter guard that usually goes on the front. I tried this with my Gravely 30" mower and it makes a huge difference. The mower doesn't clog with cut material near as much. I finally read the owner's manual! Great vid!
The guy who posted about them being heavy oviously doesn't know how to let the machine do the work. Gravely makes awesome machines that require some finesse with technique. Allow yourself to learn technique and you will love these machines !
clockguy2 red and white was gravelys paint scheme. When the commercial series came out the Cub Cadet company was growing really fast at the same time. Cubs were yellow and white so perhaps gravely tried to copy the paint job to get more customers.
@JamesTyreeII The Gravely walkbehind Tractors have a bullet-proof drive train that is all-gear and you cant get an engine simpler are as reliable at a kholer k301 or the Gravely T-head. They made 80 Plus attachments for these so they are very versatile and you can use them all year round. They do work you hard but the end result it worth it
Very helpful. Original owner of a Gravely 5665 with 40" mower deck with quick release, snowblower and 30" brush cutter. Wondering how to attach the 30" roptary mower if I have a quick release for the40" mower> Any suggestions?
Try that gravely with ma 20 snowblower , snow canon , or the 26" dog eater , snow blower . I love my gravely got my first gravely in Westchester NY, used with blown ( g24 Kohler k 241) turned the crank., went 20 over on block and piston. Lasted till I sold her to a person in western Pa.. Have a newer comerial 10a with a rebuilt 12hp Kohler this one is still going like the bunny comerial. 2017 Aug. I have two kindy mowers a sickle bar mower ,rotary plow, snow plow ma 20 snow blower and non steering sulki. Jim from Colorado springs co
Thanks guys! 5Tractorguy yah I recently took out the c-12 and the sickle bar and mowed part of the field it works really nicely I will try and get a video of the L-8 with it up soon. Localcrew thanks for the tip I will try it out
I used to have one of those and it was a BEAST! I tried to turn a freshly dozed patch with it and a rotary plow and it regularly stomped a mudhole in my butt and didn't even crack the governor. Have 2-56665's and nothing does the job like a Gravely. NOTHING!
how did i miss this? did you switch from low to high before you went back up the driveway for the last time? mine does not shift that fast. sometimes it sticks if i don't keep up on cleaning
Awesome video! I recently bought a Gravely 5660 (my first gravely ever) and was wondering what the difference between that and the C12 is. Both have 12HP, mine has 4 gears swiftmatic. What's the difference?

I guess it takes a man to run real equipment.

Nice, I used one of those decks on my Grandpa's 8122 rider this past week, by far the toughest decks ever made.
Excellent Video, That is one Great Piece of Equipment.

I wonder why some are yellow and others are red?

That's a lot of engine for that thing. We have an old john deere 212 with a very similar engine and the same horsepower and it pulls like a beast.
A man and his Gravely--it's a beautiful thing!

Yes all Gravely walk-behind tractors are self propelled.
first thing we learned with ours is dont get between the handle bars......ours will mow just about anything
Great video looks like you got a lot of grass cutting ahead of you
First job I ever had as a teen was mowing around apple trees in a local farm's huge orchard with one of these
Hi! I have Gravely commecial 10, 1970, and a like too!
@freakshow2000 Yeah they certainly are great machines!
