John Deere Model R Road Trip
Переглядів 4105 років тому
My buddy wanted me to go pick up his John Deere Model R from his father in Denver and haul it back to McPherson Kansas. I told him the Ford was up for the Job! Had a couple of obstacles to overcome, like a blown power steering hose, but overall I'd say the trip was a success!

a gravely made 60 or more years ago being videoed by a phone computer that could never be imagined when the gravely was made. and the gravely will easily out live the phone. sadly the days of machines made to the quality of a gravely will never be seen again

I’ve used a tool holder attachment a couple of times and never cared for how it left the soil. Always preferred the powered cultivator (a.k.a. rototiller).

Put 3 little magnets on the outside of clutch plate, to hold those 3 rollers pinned in.

If you still have it replace the tank if possible mine was only 20 years old would always drain it and it blew up. I don't recommend fixing the tank could kill you if it explodes other than that old thing sounds cool

This takes me back to my childhood. Mid 50s/early 60s my dad (a mechanic) supplemented his income by repairing cars and lawnmowers in our garage. A neighbor had a Gravely just like this one. He had both the sickle bar and rotary mower attachments for it. When it need fixing or a tuneup, he brought it to my dad. I remember that leather pull-to-start strap and how hard it was to pull for the skinny kid I was at the time. Of course, I had to help (?) pop with his work. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Kellogg was a good manufacturer of compressors. That pump will run forever. The old units ran so much slower so they made less noise and lasted longer. But that tank is no good. Rusted air tanks are extremely dangerous and can kill you without warning. Get a new tank! Also make sure the pressure switch and safety valve work correctly. A compressor with a malfunctioning switch and a safety valve that hasn’t been tested and a rusty tank is a bomb waiting to go off.

Looking to do a lot of good tune up and cleaning on her, she also has a 8’ or 9’ metal flatbed in good condition. Thanks for sharing this vid your truck is a beauty cool gauges also good idea on the different turbo that gets for boost in low.

Greetings, Did you get the Chevy head conversion sorted out? I’ve got a Chevy head, and want to do the same thing, but can’t find any guidance on how to go about it. Any advice you might give would be appreciated. Let’s be careful out there.

The tool holder, or cultivator as we called it, was a heavier platform than the one you show here. It had two rolling cutters on front, and there was five or seven shanks with cultivator shovels on it. We broke up the garden with the rotary plow in the spring, then used the cultivator the rest of the year. That old model L was a work horse and made many chores easier.

Thanks, I know this is a older video, but you confirm what I suspected. The service manuals are not 100% clear on timing of crank to the cams although the manual does tell how the cams should be timed with each other.

I wish someone would bring back a modern version of this machine. The live PTO and instant forward/reverse can't be beat. These machines were way over engineered so a little costly but someone like Grillo could do it.
