Can’t mess up marker lights if you don’t have them. Nice set you’re looking at it the right way. Pretty sure the flaps over the coal was for added aerodynamics
Thanks for watching. That’s a very good possibility about the flaps
Excellent review! Thanks!
Thanks for watching
Very good selection of the whistles on this locomotive! I hope Eric does a review on this locomotive soon!
He will. Thanks for watching
Fantastic video joker! I think it looks phenomenal, I really enjoyed the sound set!😊
Thanks. I appreciate you watching
That Hudson regardless of the color looks marvelous!
Thanks I think so
I think the point I am making is it was advertised as the 1938 version which means a certain thing as far as color and striping and I ordered on that basis--this isnt anywhere close--when you have a BTO business model and no trust that they will get it close to right how can anyone preorder?@@Jokers_Trains
I don't mind paying BIG BUCKS for nice toys😊
As long as the WORK!!!
nice video Joker
I will sell it to you.
Great video! Beautiful engine and cars. I'm glad these seem to be running well. A few of the high-profile engines Lionel has put out lately seem to have some gear issues. I can deal with color as long as they run great. 🍻
Yeah so far they run perfect.
Thank you for this video. I was on the fence about getting a set. With that being said . Yes, I would like to see how you took apart and added passengers to the cars of the 20th Century Limited. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment. I would make you a video but I have since sold the set. But they are very easy to take apart. Just 4 screws on the bottom of the car. Very easy to do.
I have lots of different trains
None on that level of collecting
I’ll just enjoy your collection
Thanks for sharing 🚂👍
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Great video Zac! Hoping to get mine filmed over the weekend and have it ready for Christmas! Will have to make sure my next layout has O72 minimum as it likes to hop off both my O54 and O64 loops after a few laps... Cars handle both curves fine but that whiplash the passengers will get from those kinematic couplers might cause some issues later on in life.
😆😆😆. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the comment
Awesome set! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Please make a video on how to install people into the cars. Just received a set and need to add people as well. Thanks and love your videos.
Thanks I appreciate it. I will do that. I will order some people this weekend
During your review you mentioned 'Golden Gate models for O scale passenger cars and their prices.
I do agree with you about their prices ,because I reserved an eight (8) car set priced about $2,800.00 along with an additional passenger car costing about $350.00.
I also ordered two E7 diesels (AA units) from 3 rd rail ,who is part of Golden Gate Models..
So I am looking at a bill of $5000.00 plus for 9 passenger s cars and two diesel locomotives .
I picked up one Golden gate Models passenger car from a web site to see the quality of their product and I wasn't impressed .
If I could cancel my passenger car order without any consequences ,I would.
Plastic passenger cars from Lionel and other companies have become much more detailed these days and for the price point they're a very good value.
My ABS plastic Twenty Century from Lionel cost me about $1,500.00 for the entire 8 car set ,while the 8 car set for the Golden Gate Models "Broadway Limited "which is all metal with plastic ends and with a few passengers inside ,will cost me about $3,000.00 .
I won't get my order until December of 2024 and after I pay for that order,I will only purchase Lionel 21 inch ABS plastic passenger cars ,because of the price point ,they look just as nice as those very expensive metal passenger cars.
It’s beautiful set
Thanks
I like that the version you got for eh engine has the blue striping on the tender to match the passenger cars. The 5445 that I got it is silver stripes so it isn't as good a match. Great set.
Thanks, i think thats why i ordered this one, casue i thought it went with the cars.
Looks beautiful and the details are great 👍
Thanks. Appreciate the comment
Every commentator who reviewed the Lionel Twenty Century passenger car set ,only commented about the color of the cars and the Dreyfuss Hudson steam locomotive .
No one reviewed the passenger cars in depth.
The mail baggage car , the two dining cars which were ran back to back , and the observation car are correct to the prototype .
All of the cars had skirts on them including the sleeping cars ,but the sleeping cars that Lionel has in this set are lacking them.
The original 1938 Twenty Century had four types of sleeping cars in it's consist and Lionel only offers you two different types with out full skirts .
The four types of sleeping cars on the Century ,were 17-roomette , 13- double bedroom , 10- roomette /5 double bedroom ,and 4 compartment /4 double bedroom /2 drawing room .
Lionel only offered the 5 /10 and the 4/4/2 sleepers and these do not have full skirts .
After examining the two sleeping cars in my Twenty Century set ,it appears as if the Lionel 5/10 sleeper has the 5 double bedrooms in the center of the car .
The prototype 5/10 sleeping cars had the bedrooms at one end of the car and the 10 roomettes at the other end of the car.
Also ,the Twenty Century had a lounge car that had a lounge ,crew dorm ,barbershop ,and a buffet .
I like the set ,but I feel that Lionel dropped the ball on the world's most famous passenger train and they could have done a better job for the price point they are asking .
I have purchased 7 passenger cars of the Atlas O gauge passenger train "California Zephyr " and If Atlas ever decide to come out with their own representation of the Century ,I would not hesitate to purchase it.
This is based on the craftsmanship and quality of their passenger cars.
Lionel could have done a better job on this set .
Thanks for the comment that’s fantastic information
Im with you Zac idk if the color is right but I know I like it lol
Right on. Thanks for watching Ray.
Great looking set.
Thanks.
Thats a very nice train looks great
I appreciate it. Thanks for watching
I'm a NYC fan and the colors on this engine are wrong. They used a very light grey almost white color. If you look very closely the grey on the cylinders is slightly darker and is actually the correct shade for this engine however for unknown reasons Lionel never painted these engines in that darker shade of grey. I've seen the passenger cars too and the 1938 versions do not match the engine if you look at both very closely. Lionel was under fire a few years back when they offered a set of NYO&W F3's that were painted silver instead of grey. They issued a recall and repainted the shells only to screw up the colors again and they returned them in a very light blue shade. I have the MTH Premier PT version with PS3 from 2014 and that version is correct. I'm also getting the matching set of passenger cars to go with it that Atlas just announced this week. Many NYC fans are very disappointed with this current situation. Just Trains of Delaware even said that they are accepting returns for these engines and sending them back. Not acceptable to be paying huge money that Lionel wants and their stuff comes back wrong or not working properly like it should. That's my opinion though.
I appreciate the comment and your opinion. I won’t be returning it. I like the set. I think they look good.
That engine looks good! It is a bit annoying that none of the grays match but it is what it is. Nice logo animation!
Thanks Sam. I appreciate the logo work.
Just subscribed. I like the way you tell it the way you see it. Seems to me. It’s become a trend on you tube lately to bash Lionel for anything they do right or wrong and hold MTH on the perfection pedestal. I agree with you. It’s a very nice set. For me personally. I have 0-36 corners on my layout. 0-36 corners helps keep my train budget down. Enjoyed the video. Nice review.
Thanks for the subscription I appreciate it. I agree with you O36 will be more wallet friendly
I always enjoy your comments
Just a wild thought
In real life, I bet all the Hudson and cars were slightly different shade
Being a rivet counter is cool, but I think it can be a bit much and can ruin the fun
I prefer realism, but I don't have enough knowledge to tell
Thanks. I appreciate it. I can almost promise they were all different.
Cool 😊
I think it’s awesome some people are very critical
About color and other things. I’m not critical
I have my moments. But I more care if it looks good and not so much about correctness
That is a gorgeous engine and set of cars, I tried really hard when watching your video and I could barely see the difference in color. I'm with you, the color and the fact that stripes don't line up is not a good reason to return such and awesome set
Thanks, I appericate your comment.
Nice review. The color seems to have a bluish tint to it, but it does match the cars. Once again, though, Lionel gets the station and crew talk basically wrong. I've heard it on a couple of the other channels and it is really kind of child-like. It certainly doesn't match the grandeur of the Century; more like a local or commuter train. Either way, a fine video.
Thanks for watching. After you said it has a bluish tint, i had to go look. I guess maybe it kinda does. I agree with the chatter some of it does seem child-like. To be hones i dont use the station sounds car much at all. I really only got to complete the set.
@@Jokers_Trains It really is a gorgeous set. I just wish that Lionel would step-up their game and use some prototypical crew talk. It takes away not only from the realism of the set, but also the realism of many of these beautiful, scale layouts. Too bad. Once again, a great review.
I agree to some point. I don't know what the original looked like either. A color is a color no matter what it is it should match. I have 3 different shades on mine.. locomotive, tender PT, cars. In certain lighting it is noticeable, natural lighting only the cars are off and very little. You'd think the color would be the easiest.. mix 500 gallons and away you go! Lol😂 I've come to the conclusion the only way Lionel is going to get the color right on a consistent basis is shrink wrap! LMAO. Still a nice set.😳🙄😮💨🫣😀
I agree. I think color should be the easy part. But Lionel has proven it is the easy part for them to screw up. I kinda think at this point they do it just to see how pissed off they can make people. I appreciate your comment, thanks for watching.
Correct color is unknown. It looks good and matches the cars. I bought the #5449 and #5454 the fantasy color, as well as the cars. The color of the 5454 was modified from the catalog and now is something like a Confederate gray. At any rate it looks wonderful and compliments the cars even though it is not the same color. The stripe matches the car body color. People who sent any of this set back made a big mistake. This will be and is a highly desirable set. Too many cars for my layout too. I found that by removing 3 cars the train makes it around OK without decoupling or derailing. The cars do not backup well. I had to take the 5454 to my club layout because the tender derailed the front of the locomotive in the Lionel tubular track O-72 switches. Along with the 3 extra cars it ran perfectly at the club yesterday. Please show how to add figures to the cars when you can do it. I have the 18" Lionel USATC full set and Lionel did put passengers in the seats, although they are standard civilian and it's supposed to be a military train. The dialog in the SS Diner is also standard civilian so it was disappointing.
Thanks for the comment. I agree with you about the 5454 it really does look great from the pictures i have seen of it. I can run them all together, i had one issue with the observation car uncoupling. You are absolutely right they do not like to back up. I assume it because of the kinematic couplers, but those couplers allow for the cars to be really close when coupled. I will get some people ordered and get a video for it. These cars are very easy to take apart.
Yes my observation car tended to uncouple more than any other car.@@Jokers_Trains
I have the 5454 as well. Was surprised when I opened it! I still love it.
Nothing ever produced by Lionel will make more business for custom
painters than this whole train. Lionel knew better, they have done the 1938 NYC colors completely correct many times before. Budget another $1,500 to fix it. This is SO far wrong, its not excusable.
I’m not gonna fix it. I like it.
Hey man just @ me next time 😂😂 but I stand by what I’ve said it’s a sharp set and a nice looking engine. I just don’t like the colors. But if you bought and enjoy it that’s what counts.
😆😆😆
Did you notice that the cylinder covers are painted dark gray? Does not match the engine paint? Probably what the engine should have painted. Odd. How about the tender stripes not alligning wih the passenger car stripes? That's not matching. Sloppy work. Black trucks on the tender? FYI The Lionel Smithsonian set was the closest match for the this train, they even used the correct gray with help from Dupont. The stripes did indeed match from tender to passenger cars on the prototype. Black stanchions? While the gray is obviously light, the dark gray striping is nearly black. This set is a cosmetic disaster.
I liked this engine. I actually just sold this set. I liked it. But after seeing the new MTH engine I really liked that look better. Lionel could have done a better job with this.
I think its a sexy engine but im very much not a NewYork Central fan not today not 2morrow not ever any road name but that lol but yes way cool looking engine
😆😆. I appreciate you watching.
I don’t care about the paint controversy, plus nobody knows what color the real Dreyfus Hudson was. It’s still a good look model. Plus it’s great to see the engines return to Lionel. The second whistle sound is my favorite too. It sounds a little more deep and moody. I believe Thats actually the whistle that they used for the GS-2 Daylight
Thanks for watching. Whistle #2 just seems to fit the engine the best.
@@Jokers_Trains agreed
Good video Joker
I'm surprised the color does not bother you, but glad you are enjoying the set
Aside from the color, the tooling looks nice
To be fair, I've had botched paint coloring from all manufacture, including an extremely over priced Sunset 3rd rail model 🤬. Lionel just fks it up on a consistent basis.
Looks like the bags of d!ck$ at the OGR nuked the thread talking about the color of these. 😂 maybe someday tell the story how you got kicked off the forum
Hey Rob thanks for watching. I agree they all mess up. But yes Lionel typically gets anything other than black wrong. I really do think this looks good.
They did kill the big thread on the Dreyfuss. I can tell the story, it’s just really not as exciting as you think it will be it pretty dumb actually. But maybe I will at that in sometime.
On a positive note,
I got the Vision Line Big Boy 4019, aside from the goofy marker lights, it's a fabulous model. The Blackened side rods and Smoke deflector look sharp on a big boy.
Well said, if the color is wrong but still looks good, I don’t mind keeping it. If the colors wrong and it looks bad, it’s an immediate sell for me.
That set even wrong still looks good, maybe in the future I’ll track one down. Enjoy!
Thanks Tom. No you cant weather it. 😆
for a 3k set one should expect better--its a fantasy scheme its not close to the 1938 set--the color and striping are so far off its stunning--and striping cars and tender dont even match--a complete lack of QC and attention to basic details--would have been just as easy to get it right as wrong--there are quite a number of color photos and videos
If you can supply me with a link to these videos and photos that would be awesome.
theres a book called the twentieth Century Limited by Cook that has a few color photos on page 49 and 51and a video called Hudsons along the Hudson by sunday river productions among others@@Jokers_Trains

MTH does walk on water. Lot of problems with Lionel- paint , lights, crappy sound files, weak truck and gear assembly?stop kissing lionels ass and start buying big boy trains😂
Big boy trains. That’s cute. Clearly you don’t watch many of my videos if you think I kiss Lionel ass.
I dont think anybody except GGD has the colors right, not even talking about car lengths, trucks, etc. Could it have been darker? Sure. Do I enjoy my set and love running it? Yes! Run what you enjoy and everybody else can kick rocks! 🪨 😂
Nailed it. Happy to hear you got a set
