You have a great ability to explain your process to the beginner as well as the pro.
The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
I’m sitting here on the bank of the Rogue, drinking wine ,waiting my turn to go out on the boat salmon fishing in a few days. Jordan, watching your videos gives me that adrenaline rush of actually fishing those streams.
Love these videos!!!
Would've liked to see a Joe's Flies spinner in there, too.
Those and jerries are my fav for slow moving creeks. Teeny wee craw too.
I like those or an all silver Blue fox in size 0
Same
YES
ALL JOES FLIES ARE AMAZING
I have seen those in Various Stores; never Tried one.
Stumbled across this channel while looking for some trout stuff. This dude totally seems like the kind of guy you want to sit down with, enjoy a beer, and just talk fishing. Got my sub.
Yes! Love all of the catch and cook series from various survival and fishing UA-cam pages, but it’s the tutorials that I wish there were more of! Definitely subscribing after seeing this one; I love the energy you have and willingness to explain things in a way that makes it easy for beginners to understand that doesn’t make it feel as confusing; understanding the fish mentality as well as the functions of the various lures is so huge and I appreciate you explaining them in more detail !
If fishing is slow 😜, I have 2 favorite lures, well ok 4, 3/8 oz. Copper and silver kastmaster and the same in a daredevil!! Add split shot if you have to!! Seems to work well in summer waters 😊!!
Blue Fox is hands down my favorite lure. Caught one of my PB best rainbows today on a silver Blue Fox. I have been fishing this same river sense I was 11 years old you just never know when I giant is going to smack your lure.
Agreed. They are amazing! I've caught some catfish on them too
I do very much appreciate your videos. I have not fished in 30 years. I’m looking forward to finishing this next week. Bought a pedal kayak and got all my old gear out put new fishing line on my very old reels ,bought some new jigs. Can’t wait to go fishing.Keep up the good work.
Kayak fishing is awesome! I have the pedal drive Perception Pescador Pilot 12.0. So much fun and easy to fish small water. I hope you’re enjoying yourself getting back into the hobby.
never thought of using braid for trout always used fluro ,using the braid has been a game changer for me .Thanks another great tutorial on spinners for trout.
Nice video as always jordan! As a trout angler from sweden i would love to see a faceoff between swedish and american spoons/spinners. Leeets go! :D
Used some Thomas spinners and panther martains this weekend. Both in a kind of blue/silver trout color. The Thomas only caught one. The panther got about 6-7 Brooke trout. Thanks for the motivation!!! Come fish in wyoming il take ya in the oldest fishing boat you've ever fished haha
I really appreciate the way you articulate the reasoning behind your method and lires to use it's helped me to understand everything a lot better and I'll be using this in the future for sure!
The Mepps with the fish is my favorite spinner, helped me hook up on many species of fish 🤙🏽....new subscriber, cool videos!
ive never had luck with that one. maybe ill have to give it another shot!!!!
Mepps comet are my favorite bass lure in number two I would like a smaller one to try out .
I've been using 3/8oz Martin spinners, they work well for medium-fast water. I cut off the stock treble and replace with a split ring so I can attach fresh hooks of my choice.
My wife and I are going to get off the boat for the first time and do some river fishing here this summer. I haven't river fished since I was a boy so here I am. I used a lot of spinners and spoons back then ,but for trout old fashioned worms usually worked the best. Unfortunately many places have since outlawed live bait. Good video.
Video was excellent! Thanks brew. Also - another good tip for spinners I learned is to match the colour of the spinner to the colour of the fish you're targeting. Best method I've found for using the right colour of spinner.
One of my favorite spinners in the summer was a Mepps or Blue Fox #1 & #2 with a plain brass blade and body. If it is old and tarnished even better.
I must be lucky, I got one in my box rn! I fish a lake though
When you finally got into some fish I was screaming use the panther martin!
I almost strictly use Panthers with a split shot 12-16 inches away from the lure for rivers and creeks because they are the easiest to control and fish slam em.
Thanks! I have several of those spinners. Keep dropping videos, I am learning some great tips
I love Okuma! I have the Okuma Celilo rod, and the Ceymar C-40 reel and I love them. Never had any problems with either of them. I have an Okuma fly rod but am not sure how impressed I am with it. My son has an Okuma fly reel and that definitely doesn't compare to many other reels, but as far as a spinning set up, amazing. I went with that line up all because of these videos with Jordan.
Another awesome vid Jordan! I was curious to know how you keep line twist out of your line when using a long leader like that and no swivel.
Panthers work best for me lately but all the spinners I've tried work.
It would be awesome if you did more video about how to read water to find holding areas for fish during different river conditions, time of day, and seasonal weather. Thanks Jordan
Red and white Mepps is a really great addition to the tackle works great in are Montana creeks
When them trout clam up I use good ol rapala black and gold... Some reason works well... Size the three inch one cranked in like a spinner
Bro Jordan looks so immaculate in this video. It’s crazy at the beginning with the sunlight shining off his face in the shade.
Just bought a 7ft SST with a C-30 Ceymar reel. Love it so far! Appreciate the recommendation Jordan!!
Exactly what I bought today
You guys should team up with leif again for a Backcountry camping trip for trout.
Fished with spinners for the first time after being gifted a bunch of them last week. Might be my new favorite way to fish with conventional gear. Even the nibbles were exciting and I pulled in a pound and a half bass on the smallest one! Still looking for trout in central Mn but I will report back with the results
Where I am In montana I’m always catching trout on the mepps aglia
In central Minnesota , Brainerd area. Started using Mepps spinners this summer after watching Jordan. The number 4 AGLIA ABSOLUTELY DOMINATED this summer. Caught Pike, Crappie, Bass, Whitefish, Sunfish. Never failed.
Mepps are awesome they make every style .
Fishing spinners is a simple yet really exciting method, I like how they can be retrieved quite slowly, the flashing blur plus the vibrating action seems irresistible to many species.
North Fork Lures has been producing some great spinners for steelhead/Trout
Hands down my favorite fishing channel
bright flashy spinners and sunny days don't go well unless its windy to put a chop on the water. Black spinners may work in that case - Panther Martin especially since it has a tighter spin vs. a Blue Fox. That is where roostertails rule - they come in bright and subdued colors. Always fun to chuck and wind - the fish do get used to them were bites in the mouth turn to hooked outside the mouth due to them slapping at it. Those turn to follows in close where they think they want it but something is "off". Then gone. Where as Jordan mentioned, switching colors or spinner types helps - give them something different. Tie on a decent snap swivel - give a lure 10 to 20 casts and switch
Big trout swim up stream so i walk down stream as far as i can and fish up stream , if you think about it these big browns are predators and will sit in the calmer water in a pool , lets say behind a big boulder because swimming up stream is a constant and the calm water behind a boulder or log or whatever interrupts the current enough to sit and ambush smaller bait fish , so cast up stream and reel just enough to set you spinner in motion and let the current carry your spinner into deep hidden spots where big browns sit in calmer water to ambush smaller bait fish....i fish the Tomahawk fishing reserve on the south platte in Colorado off hiway 9 between Hartsel and Breckenrigde and its a catch and release , but ive done pretty well doing this , my last trip i landed 3 browns over 20in and one huge ugly salmon it was huge big ugly hook jaw ...anyway i plan on taking a go pro next time
My favorite spinner is a small copper spinner Martin. Never lets me down
I ditched spinners when I discovered yo zuri pins minnows..... Never looked back. Love the content, keep up the good work!
Had a few spinners in my younger years.. One even helped me catch 🦀s..
If you have roostertails and panther martins you can fish most any water between the 2. The best part about roostertails is the color selections. Sometimes it has as much to do with the color than anything in my experience. One of my favorite colors during the summertime is the bumblebee with a gold blade for Brook Trout and Brown Trout. I feel the rainbows generally like either black or white spinners with silver blades the most.
I do feel the blade color plays more of a part with the likelyhood of catching certain species.
you should make a trout worm/jig addicted kit.
i love spinners. i wasn't having much luck jigging so i switched to a panther martin and nabbed a bunch of white bass. switched up to a rooster tail and hooked huge sheepshead. they can catch anything.
I don't know why exactly but the unpainted solid copper blue fox has always been my most fish catchingest lure.
I got to tell you man you did a great job on the video I fished spinners for steelhead salmon and trout N Oregon Couple decades ago For quite a few years Also fished stripers at night and a couple of rivers out there that were very productive And because I love the inline spinners I got to say you did a great job great job
Holy spinner Jordan! Had me sitting on the edge of my seat, audibly exclaiming.
Love spinner fishing! S/O Blue fox, Mepps, Wedding Band, Lucky Strike etc
Bet jigs under floats would’ve slayed tho.
Thanks Jordan very helpful
Will you cover using a cast master lure? I've learned so much just by watching a few of your trout fishing tutorials and feel more confident than ever to get out there and catch.
I’m early 😎 I swear by the mepps! I catch a fish every time I use one of these trout fishing here in montana, i catch whitefish with it as well!
Yeah , my box is full of them, I use to only trust the dressed hooks , but they all just work
These are great and I use them for multi-species: Mepps Spin Fly and Eco Pro tungsten in-line spinner
I got a box of random cheap spinners for Christmas off of some wish Facebook add lmao. Didn’t think they would work well, caught a fish of every single one of them 💯🐟🪝
I use the same ozark trail box for my trout spinners theyre surprisingly pretty nice for the money
The hype!!! Yes!!! When you hit that pocket and that fish hit!! You were amped.. lol
Rnb lures and steelhead lure company and north fork lures makes the best spinners by far
I've enjoyed your videos and this one shows some growth over the one 4 years ago deciding whether the Rooster tail or the Panther Martin was your favorite.
There is no favorite.....they do different things in the water column and you choose the most suitable for the conditions at hand to present first.
The Panther Martin IMO has the most loft and would be my first choice in skinny,
slow water.
The Rooster tail would be my first choice in faster,
deeper water that would pull the panther Martin right to the top and for real deep,
fast water I will go to a Krockodile spoon first.
Not to be critical or tell you how to fish but the exercise begins with "reading the water" then choosing your presentation.
You have the audience not me but how about approaching a pool "from below" so they aren't all watching what you're doing,
explaining to your audience what you hope to accomplish,
choosing the lure you think will do that and why?
With so many other variables involved (water temp., sun position, water color, lure color, forage/hatch, educated fish, etc.) let's get the brand recognition out of it hmmm?
That 10 lure lineup might in fact be a good selection in the steelhead streams you usually fish but if you were fishing an unknown trout stream a Krockodile, PM, RT, Mepps and a Super Duper would serve a fisherman looking to improve his skill better.
My go to is a all gold panther martin, thing just slays em.. I get trout, bass, crappie, & bluegills on them depending on where I’m at..
Another great Tuesday because of you guys! 👍
Awesome I miss these kinds of videos tutorials and techniques.👏🏼
One of the fam favs is a mepps comet, nice rainbow blue flox slays in the more muddy lakes in northern bc
Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Stripped bass fishing heaven .
My favorite trout spinner is the CP. SWING TROUT love Them!!
Was fishing a black rooster tail with a silver blade the other day. Hooked into a 21 inch rainbow. Handed the rod over to my 5 year old son to reel it in. I had to climb down a 6ft. rock face to net it. My son was going nuts, the fish took a couple good runs tearing drag on him lol. He was used to reeling in 10-13 inch trout lol.
The gold or rose gold blue foxes are my favorite here in Colorado !!
Luv any fishing video where they've got their dog with em!
My terrier loved FRIED fish, but not trout sushi😅
jordan, have you ever used the old Creme worms with the spinners on them? whats your thoughts if you have?
use to smash trout and bass with them as a kid.
should of tried the buds spinner at that last spot, i just caught a 14 inch wild rainbow yesterday with it, my PB trout after 3 years on the lower trinity
Nice video. might might I suggests a quick release snap ring, instead of retrying and losing leader every time you change lures.
You got me back into fishing , thanks Jordan !
Awesome Video !! as always i just received the trout floats cant wait to use those things !!
2nd one is my favourite
Dude Great content. Good tips on flies off a spinning rod and float from a previous video.
I have been hooking em in the bubbles.
Now i just gotta figure out how to get em out the current and in the net.
This video with the spinners near the rocks , great for the upper Deschutes river Bend Oregon.
Fighters .... fighters fighters.
I'm new to actual fishing beyond hook and worm.
Late last night and early tomorrow morning ..... Must be addicted.
Great content ... I hope you have a video on fighting the trout out of the rocks and current to the shore as they are going upstream and holding by rocks.
You should try a Joe's flies spinners. I love them.
💯
Crushing it as always bro!! Great educational video lil bro!!
Love it brother. Nice video
The best trout spinner? It's the one you're most confident with. For me above and beyond for trout is a #4-#6 panther Martin. Either black body yellow dots with gold blade or neon green black dots with silver blade.
I had one of those fish spinners back in the day, I caught a nice largemouth on it once.
No cast-master? Great video Jordan.
Check out Trout Whisperer Tackle Co. Spinners. Got a few new colors coming this fall as well. If you guys do another spinner video lemme know. I’ll get a few to you🎣
I literally have a box full of all gold panther martins the trout in Montana love them
Jordan the spinner you called a blue fox is actually a Danielson, and the one after it is a blue fox shallow runner
Those thomas are great an I love a Joe's flies
Jordan next time you see the Leif get one of his bullet spinner i’ve used it it works well
Forever and always loyal to the FG knot. Love the vids man.
You should try roxstar fly spinner, orange gold I catch every other cast.
Northfork spinners
Where did you find that weird fishy one? Ha, it’s awesome when you catch one on something that you wouldn’t think would work at all. Great job showing all of the time you spent searching, that can be a great part of the day when they aren’t biting, thanks for the great info!
You guys need to go to Wallowa Lake in Joseph Oregon they have massive lakers and Kokanee
Chartreuse rooster tail, brass old school mepps aglia # 0-2 for me, or Joe's/Jerry's fly spinners in slow spots. 💪💯
So. Even the best has bad luck. Love your videos.
How do you feel about the Little Cleo’s?
I only have one , and it's one with the stripper, so I don't think I'll throw it. My go to spoon is Gibbs hammered brass fire stripe
I fish spinners like I am drift fishing. Bouncing on the bottom. Same with spoons. Works well. May loose a few though. I am a big fan of Rvrfshr but I here they are done.
Love the educational vids guys! Always learn something new. Tight lines yall! 🤙🏼🎣🔥
can you give us your take on swivels? Feel like it speeds up the lure switching process but wanted to know if you think it impacts the lures effectiveness?
Just a friendly question but wouldn’t a swivel be a good thing to use with spinners? Happy fishing! Ps I like flying c or panther martins.(yellow with red spots)
Do I not need to use a swivel to connect my leader to my braid? I've been told like twist is an issue with spinners if you don't!
Ever toss any super dupers or castmasters or lil spoons? I've had decent luck with them.
Why not put a snap on and save your leader line?
Where in the PNW are you guys located? Great vids, have learned a lot from you!
I usually have good luck using a crawdad lures on rivers. I have a question, how do you weight a spinner to get it deeper in a deep, fast moving river without losing its action?
What are you thoughts on quick change clips for a day like this. Like tactical angler power clips. I like them when jetty fishing. I think smaller ones would help you out when you know you will be changing it a lot. Just asking, and wondering what you think.
That one was good. I liked that big rainbow. Tao(5years old)
15:00 I have some of those as well, bought a pack of them a long time ago. Blue Fox if I'm not mistaken. I've never been impressed with that particular model, even in ponds and lakes I can't get them to consistently spin.
Hey is it a good idea to use snap swivels to quickly change spinners? Or does it mess up the presentation?
