How To: Rain Proof Your Windshield

  • I never think about my windshield wipers until it starts to rain and then I don't want to change the blades because its raining and I don't want to get wet. I started using this product several years ago because my windshield wipers on a previous vehicle didn't work very well. It has stood the test of time and is still one of the best products on the market for rain proofing your windshield. Many people don't apply it properly and it causes streaks and hazing.

Been using it for years. I feel like a missionary when I try to get other people to try use it too. I live in the tropics with a rough rainy season, and people always ask "How is your windshield doing that!?" I forward them videos like yours. Rain repellant is oddly a somewhat niche product category, but RainX deserves all the praise it gets. It always blows my mind when rainy season comes around and I re-apply.

It’s crazy that more people don’t use it!

It looks like you were driving under 40 MPH. That is almost the exact speed at which Rain-X really beads up and you can essentially turn off your wipers. Then it actually gets better as you go faster.

I was going around 45 probably. I does work really well at interstate speeds though!

I agree Aaron, the faster you drive the less wiper strokes.

I use RainX as you did a long with RainX windshield wiper fluid. I hardly ever use my wipers. And , never need to on the highway. I've tried many products for the rain/snow/ice and , RainX seem to work best for me. I've used it for years now.

Wax.... Wax that you would use to wax and buff your paint job. Works really well.

Wax works too but I’ve had issues with streaking or hazing.

@@TightWadDIY very likely when using certain waxes. Always best to use polishing wax, then wax, then a sealer. Chemical Guys have some extraordinary products. But, Maguire's Ultimate compound, ultimate polishing wax, ultimate liquid wax can be used as well. Both will give you no streaks.

I saw a video of a person applying a potato on the outside of the windshield and it looks like it works just like the rain-x. It's a Mexican video and I am trying to find someone in the US who has tried it. 😊

@@fraps3200 good question. You are right, I should do it myself. When I saw it, instead of trying it myself, I decided to check before if anyone in the US had tried it and then I just forgot all about it. You're right, I'll try it myself 😊

How is it when u use ur windshield wipers with it will it still help the rain removal cus i did this once and if was odd it would smear the rain and would make it harder to see when i did try to hse the windshield wipers on it

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  2 роки тому +3

If it smeared, you didn’t apply it properly. You really have to buff off all of the excess or it will smear. You should be able to use your wipers with no issues.

Intresting ! but would you recommend wiping the windshield off with a little bit of water after applying the Rain-X layer instead of wipinig it dry ?

    • @TightWadDIY

I wouldn’t. The rain-x instructions say to buff it off.

Any kind of high quality spray wax works just the same, only difference is you can use it on the whole car. Just make sure to wipe it off good. Water beads.
