    I did not do any driving in this video because it was nice out but I will make a short video next time it rains while driving.
    I will do updates in the near future.

    We use Rain x on aircraft to reduce the need for wipers in inclement weather. On personal vehicles at 55 and above mph, wipers are nearly uneeded. Slip stream air keeps water drops off the windshield. There has been comments suggesting rain x accelerates deteriorates rubber wipers and shortens their life span. However no evidence of this claim has been provided.

      Three years later comes to say that the Rain-X windshield washer fluid DID deteriorate wiper blades. The Rain-X wipe on coating was ok. (Griot's is better and more durable)

    I've been using Rainx for 30 years. Makes night driving much safer by drastically reducing glare. In the rain, you hardly have to use your wipers. Even when you're going too slow to blow off the water and it just beads, the beads are so tiny you see right through them without a problem. Griots looks very similar. I doubt chemically it's much different. Now, correct me if I am wrong but you polished the glass on Hoof's Right? That could be why both were harder to remove this time. I've learned the cleaner the glass is the easier it comes off like wax on a car.
    My tips for using RainX are: clean, clay and hand polish the glass (RainX makes a cleaning polish that I use). Apply 1 coat sparingly in crosshatch pattern and wait as long as possible for it to fully cure (>15 minutes if possible). Apply a second coat sparingly in same pattern. Wait 15 minutes or more. Apply a light spritz of distilled water from a spray bottle and buff off. Repeat every couple of months...
    Here is a fantastic comparison video that shows actual performance of both over 90 days

      @@FABAutomotiveDetailing In my experience you get about 60 days out of Rain X depending on how much you have to use your wipers and if you use their washer fluid to keep it fresh. If you use their washer fluid you can go a really, really long time. I very rarely use my wiper blades and use their washer fluid so I can go a whole season or more without going the full monty of cleaning, claying, hand polishing and re-application. I've occasionally used aquapel and another from Simoniz (whose name escapes me) but I always wind up going with Rain X because it's cheap, readily available and predictable. I must say on the wife's traverse I recently used the 303 touchless SiO2 sealant and it seems to work like rain x. Also, I noticed I have some bottles of a super clean product that says it cleans and makes the glass water repellent. Maybe I'll try it on my Son's truck to see how it works...

    • @FABAutomotiveDetailing
      @FABAutomotiveDetailing  5 років тому +1

      David Behr It wasn’t even close to drenched it had just a few spots on it. I never even got close to spraying the door panel. Even if I did it wouldn’t have hurt it unless it was flooded with water. Steam cleaning doors puts a lot more water on the panels then I did. I’ve had to hose puke off panels. The panels and switch housings are designed to be able to withstand water spraying on them.

    For me, cost would be the defining factor.
    A tip on the rain-X, a simple polish (not reapplication) helps renew it.
    I personally clean my windshield more than once a year, so claims of others to last a year don’t bother me. Nothing beats a fresh application.
    I have tried (with great results) applying with a small dual orbital polisher, gets every nook and cranny and I just leave that pad in a zip lock bag till next time.
    Some people are flipping out on the price… a bottle of either should last you many years. It doesn’t take much.
    Last thoughts. If they are easy to get off, then they won’t last.
    If your windshield is hazy, you didn’t get it off. A little more elbow grease next time 🤣

      Agreed; Rain-x actually is an exercise in pure frustration.... I believe it's one of those that you are forced to use their washer fluid stuff and continual applications to sell more product. If you stop using it, it then causes all kinds of wiper noise you wouldn't have if you never bothered. I did try several vehicles and every conceivable application style over 15+ years. No thanks. Switched to Aquapel and the stuff is just amazing, probably liquid cancer, but it's literally one of the few products in the auto detailing world that exceeds expectations. Best part about it is it's fine with even just light quick buffer action for window prep if you're just doing a friend a favor on the cheap.

    Another great video Brian. I am going to delete mine since you have yours out. I really like the Glass sealer and the RainX. I personally will continue to use the RainX after mine runs out for the simple fact of availability. I love the glass sealer. And you are correct about the pricing and ounces. But you are not taking into consideration the fact you can go about any where and get the RainX and you have not figured in shipping on the Glass sealer and having to wait. …..If the glass sealer was at the local stores I would get it all the time

    I used to use Rain-X but stop using it. Products like these are just a waste of money as I found that all it takes is one really good rain shower to wash away the effectiveness of a product. Whenever we have hard rain it seems that the product wears off and your wipers beginn to rattle and stick. So if you want the water to run off your windshield while using a garden hose, buy it. In real life application, it does not last for very long

  • @basketballdbomb41
    @basketballdbomb41 5 років тому +1

    I've found out that Rain X seems to have a curing time for the best results. Seems like it's about a day or so. Make sure you don't use the wipers on it too much the first day or else it'll start to streak. Found this out when I was taking a trip rainXed the windshield before we left. Drove for about 5 hours of nothing, then pouring rain, so much so the rainX wasn't keeping up, had to use wipers and then it started streaking and the effect was almost completely gone after 30 minutes of wipers. On the other hand my daily had a few dry days to cure and rainX can last for months. Once the initial dirt build up is removed by wipers then the rainX works exactly the same as it did with the water just flying off in the wiper arches. Typically use wipers as little as necessary as they aren't typically needed above 40MPH with a treated windshield.
