It's a shame that Selena isn't alive. She would've taught and shown these singers of today about family and family values. It is truly sad how music and singers have changed for the worse.
I think this scene should have been kept in. It shows that Selena did have some doubts and fears about her crossover. Selena was used to having her family around her all the time and now she was having to take the biggest step in her career without them on stage to support her. It would only be natural if she was a little afraid about the changes that her crossover was already making in her life. It more importantly shows how her family loved her too much to hold her back, even if it meant she left them behind.
It's called *Selena*. It's the true story of the rise of Mexican American singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez to Tejano superstar, and her tragic murder just before reaching her dream of a english language crossover. This was the film that made Jennifer Lopez a star.
I love this scene and I don't think it should have been left on the cutting room floor. This scene really humanized Selena for me because the movie made it seemed like Selena had zero doubts about her crossover.

J-Lo got Selena down to a tea...the laugh, the look, the personality, the persona 👍🏾 Ill never forget when I saw this movie when I was 11 years old in 2001. Thats when Tejano music hit me hard & I taught myself to sing in Spanish by watching the movie on VHS at the time, I putting on the captions! RIP Selena ✊🏾
no ab did talk about how selena was worried about the band members not being able to play extensively for futuristic music. I see how they tried to incorporate that dialouge into this scene. This scene is beautiful. Selena had a good relationship with everyone and wanted everyone to be included with her success
I think one reason for the family thing with the crossover is that the big producers saw big bucks with Selena. They might have seen getting her away from her family as good for business. A person with strong family ties and morality is going to be much less likely to do wild stuff on stage and in movies, which a lot of big stars are pretty much forced to do if they want to stay 'relevant' and reach the top. And unfortunately, America doesn't really value family as much as many other cultures. Personal success and status are put above family, so there are many successful young people in the U.S. who are lonely and lost.
gsutton78 : As You Say The Lonely One And The Lost Too Bad For Those. The Family Ties Are Way Better Because They Know What They Are Doing!!!!. They Were Kicking Ass And Chew Bubble Gum!. They Were Self Made!!!!. Nothing Could Beat That!.
all the costumes and this jacket was all replicated. i love how she didn't want to leave her family behind to do the english market. i don't blame her.
ilove. this scene jlo resembles selena alot in this scene. i believe this probably happened not exzact but in perpective she always loved her family and didnt want to change what they already had
I love this sence... It really got to me... Love you Selena. Rest in peace with all those angels.. Just remember we will aways have you in our hearts where ever we go you will be there... RIP Selena...
i agree w/you philaphobicragdoll. it's just a brother hugging his sister because she's upset. that happens in close-knit families...nothing incestual about it. hell, my brother hugged me the same way when i had to have my first cat put to sleep. is the world so cold now that a brother can't hug his sister w/o suspicion? i thought the scene was sweet.
"Anything for Selenas!!" lol still funny! I think the guy who plays A.B is so cute. See it shows that familia meant alot to Selena. "The people aren't dancing! Damn!" lol
They should've left this scene in the movie. As excited as she was about the English crossover, Selena was also scared to leave her family behind and I think it was an important part of her story and who she was.
JLO had Selena’s mannerisms down! This scene alone proves just how great of an actor she is. This is Jennifer Lopez, the actor. Not JLO, the media mogul. I think people forgot about THIS as she became a brand. Anyway, still one of my favorite movies, and Selena will forever be ONE OF A KIND! #RIPQueen
Yeah you are right for a minute or maybe the whole duration of this clip I thought it was Selena instead of JLo. When I first saw this clip I didn't know that Selena had boubts or concerns about crossing over b/c the record company wanted her to have a whole new band backing her up and new writers writing her songs.
Why are they acting like they are boyfriend and girlfriend? Its obvious why this scene was deleted... Anyhow, I am glad they have attempted to re-create those moments... I Could NOT Fall In Love with this scene though. :(
@Nike5221 .This is a movie of course not everything in the movie is what h append in Selena's real life. They wanted to include this scene to show that Selena did not want to leave her band and become a solo artist. She didn't want to make the cross over without her band her family.
The movie def was better off with out this scene, jlo did a great job interpreting Selena, this movie was def jlos BIG break, jlo admitted she discovered she wanted to become a singer because of filming this movie (last concert scene) & jlos main/only true talent is dance! Selena there is no one else like you RIP
God, the dude that plays Abie in this movie is so damn hot! I was disappointed to find out that he's married with a kid (or kids)....although that's never stopped me from fantasizing, lol.
I agree,I'm latino and I'm really close to my family. I can't imagine not having them in my life. People think Its wierd how close we are but I think their weird for not being close to their family.
@ProudKansan08 I totally agree...nobody knew who Jlo was until this role.....before this movie jlo was known as the girl from money train and thats it.
good thing about her that she never changed! she always wanted her family and the band involved...i like that .but it wouldve been better even much if she sang for the lord !!
they should of added tihs schene in the movie for some people that iddnt know selena could of understood more of her life plus jlo soo good in this scene and she looks alot like selena and jokes like her
@BossLayD29,I've said it before that I think its a sad twist of fate that a real talent such as Selena had to die, and then a so-so actress gets picked to play her and suddenly, JLO is like the greatest thing since sliced bread.I didn't like JLO in the role, something about her voice bugged me, and, no, I wouldn't say I'm an actress, but I don't think JLO is such a great actress, her songs are 'padded' to make her voice stronger, dancing is the only thing she's good at.
i agree. thats how hispanic families are, we are just that tight knit. My brother is like my best friend. i don't think it's weird, i think its kinda sweet
@Bloodyghost75 i know a gun can go of by accident but yolanda was a nurse and she didnt help selena...why would she even pull out a gun in the first place. she even said selena was cheating on chris...i mean why act like that if it wuz an accident? i hope your not thinkin im sayin this 2 b mean im really not nd im sorry if i am i just wanted to point that out.
I can understand why people is complaining about how close they are to each other. But in latin culture, it is kind of normal to see siblings og6h opposite sex interact like that. If they grew up together, there is nothing weird to see them like that. I'm latina, that's why I don't see something wrong i their interaction.
I like that this scene shows AB to be a good and supportive big brother. The being too physically close to each other part is a little odd but still cute.
@hiswifey2004 I think she did a good job in the film, especially with all of the pressure. But at that point, although she had been acting professionally, she was not very well known. Before they opened the auditions to the public Gregory Nava offered the role to Salma Hayek, but she turned it down. They also considered Bibi Gaytan and Olga Tanon, although I don't know if they were ever asked.
Did this really happen? if so it was a very great scene on how much she truly loved her family and herself as a person, that she did not care to change to fit other peoples personas.
what i am saying is every movie they make about somebody life isnt always going to be exactly the way it was because u have to think its hollywood doing the movie
As the person who organized all of Selena's English album I can say this scene never happened in real life. I thought of having Keith Thomas work with Selena, met with him about it and took her to meet him and she was thrilled. She was living her dream to make this album. They never recorded with Keith in Nashville; it was done in his studio in Hendersonville (though I did send limos to pick her up at the airport and take her back). The only truth here is that she did have some worries about her band being taken out of the fold for her English touring if that had ever been able to happen. However, we would definitely have worked that out to her liking. I believed in keeping her authenticity.
@CLEVERDEVICES not just that but can you imagine the outrage from all of Selena's fans if that crazy lady actually did get out? I'm sure they would have snipers or something waiting for the second Yolanda was in view to give her the karma that she deserves. I'm not one to wish ill on anyone....but after what she did...karma WILL get her back.
It's a shame that Selena isn't alive. She would've taught and shown these singers of today about family and family values. It is truly sad how music and singers have changed for the worse.

Yep..
I thought I was the only one who thought so. The actor IS hot.
This truly was Jennifer Lopez's best acting job.
And some people talking about Jennifer Lopez can’t act yeah right

Yeah. She never wanted to change anything, or herself for anyone or anything. Pretty much kept it real. One of the best qualities to me about her.

why didn't they keep this scene?
I think it's repetitive.
It's a good scene, but repetitive with the written script for the movie.
I think one reason for the family thing with the crossover is that the big producers saw big bucks with Selena. They might have seen getting her away from her family as good for business. Very true Selena wasn't gonna sell out or compromise her values.

Honestly i believe the big man decided to keep her away from the evil industry
her outfit though #yaass
Should have kept it. So cute
"its a bra!!! its a bra" ha ha ha ha
This really reflected their family coolness...their family orientatation....they should have kept it in!
"YOU'RE PLAYING THE WRONG SONG,WHAT ARE YOU DOING,YOU PEOPLE ARENT DANCING DAMN!" lol she almost says it just like abraham
I'm sorry but I wish people would stop being mean to J. Lo she did the role because she was asked to and in honor of Selena not to become her!
Don't worry their just jealous if her ya know? smh
Okay

all the costumes and this jacket was all replicated.
i love how she didn't want to leave her family behind to do the english market. i don't blame her.
I wish this scene was in the movie. Glad I am able to see it anyway, great scene it deserves to be in the movie.

Jennifer Lopez really did a GREAT job acting as Selena. Selena is an AWESOME person!.
I know she it..
(R.I.P. Selena)
Selena's husband went with her to Nashville to record "I could fall in love",not AB or Abraham....
She would have dominated with her own band and people if she had been able to cross-over. If only...
Why did they cut all of these scenes out?? They would've let us know more about Selena (which I thought was the aim of the movie?)
selena was great is great n jlo is too
i dont think shes fake shes just an actress

Agreed. AB is such a good supportive big brother.
u can tell why they took this part out; it looks like shes gonna make out with her brother any second
i just wna cry *tears*
i agree. thats how hispanic families are, we are just that tight knit. My brother is like my best friend. i don't think it's weird, i think its kinda sweet
This just shows how close Selena was with her siblings. I once heard Suzette say in an interview that they never fought ever
this is soooo cute!!!
why this scene was delete from the movie?
First time seeing this deleted scene and they really should have kept this in the movie.

I definitely don't think that Selma Hyak could've pulled off this role... she doesn't have enough spunk or personality to portray Selen
He is not really her brother which explains why he is thinking about doing some other things in this scene.
Maybe the actor was attracted to Jlo and this whole scene was NOT scripted lol😂😂😂
Hi
why they took all the good parts out~
mil gracias!!! =D
It's a bra LOL
oh thanks C: i had no idea.. for some reason i always thought she was dead ha :P
that was the movie
Por el vestuario de esta escena, diría q esta escena iba antes del grabar la escena donde JLO interpretando a selena graba coul fall in love.
Did this really happen? if so it was a very great scene on how much she truly loved her family and herself as a person, that she did not care to change to fit other peoples personas.
I'm watching Selena the movie
oh that makes sense~ thanks!

Probably before the studio scene where she was singing I Could Fall In Love.
she is not gettin out
