Thanks to both of you for posting this. This was my dream car around 1993-94. You should watch the Hagerty video that Jason Cammisa did about this car. He has a very amusing take on it. I think the title is something like, "The FD RX7 is everything you want in a sports car, including failure." :D :D :D
What a clean car! The thing that always amazed me is just how linear and smooth Rotary engines are. Even though it's twin turbo it doesn't seem punchy or twitchy. Great video as always!
one thing to keep in mind about the original FD3S (the owner modified his, as most do) is that they had sequential turbos, not twin turbos, and that helped them be smoother and more linear. They were, however, really tough to keep working correctly, so most people switched to single or twin turbo setups over time.
With sequential turbos, they have good torque from 3,000rpm to peak power, they are the opposite of punchy or peaky or whatever you want to call it. Contrary to popular belief, it is not "hard" to keep the sequential working right. A few things can go wrong; check valve failures, hose failures, solenoid failures and (rarely) actuator failures, but you can go through the "rats nest" in a weekend and replace any bad parts and it'll work fine. Going non-sequential twins is literally pointless unless you're broke or in a tough spot and need something temporary while you wait for parts and the car just drives better with the sequential setup working.
I'm so impressed with the owner's effort and vision! But also you, Topher, thank you for putting in the effort to get more shots and more details! Edit: from the description "Subframe rigid collars" --this thing has the Spoon rigid collars!
Still one of the best drivers cars ever made under 50k. IR Performance is the best rotary shop in the US hands down if you need work. Owner definitely needs a larger IC, that really holds the car back, otherwise 18 psi boost is no problem
Love these videos man, looks like you had a lot of fun. Also shout out to the man who let you drive his beauty, and the fact he dailies an xB when he has a dream JDM lineup lol.
Stock twins with all the supporting mods gave mine about 350 wheel and it was great racing and beating most cars bc light weight...the RX7 can never loose
Funnily enough my nan use to drive this car and i always found it odd because it was essentially anything but a family car you'd drive due to the cramped seating in the back
My opinion cause i ve driven this model and the previous one I friend had them both ,and in this one you have nice job she's beautiful but when you put some more power to it but even now at least i saw I very big difference when he changed suspension and I mean ok if you have a lower butjet and can't afford coilovers just change the springs front n back same and front suspension a little bit more stiff than back cause something's all don't think about is the silent boxes in front more stiff cause they suffer a lot but it also leaves you see the hole power of your tyre power to the limit ..thanks.....i wrote it cause the car is beautiful
I truly miss analog gauge clusters. Digital one's are bad ass in their own sense but I wish they could incorporate it better into the dash. I'm sick of the tacky ipad gauge clusters. Why not slap on bezel'd round pods on top of the ipad so that the digital display can be shown inside the pods. Like what we have here but digital. Would look much nicer imo.
Cause rotaries are finicky and heat is their enemy. Didn't want to turn the car off after hard driving so we just let it keep cool in between youtubers driving it.
They caught on fire when they were stock. The owner of this one talked about how he re-did the fuel system, because these cars were known to catch on fire, even when new and stock.
Again, big thanks to Erik for letting us all have a go in his RX-7, follow him on IG here: instagram.com/s2kerik/

i'll raise you a r33 gtr topher
This is Erik. Thanks for the video! Was fun to see everyone's perspective on it.
Timeless looks RX7s are beautiful.
Seeing a classic JDM in such clean condition is always satisfying

Love this videos! That RX-7 Looks super fun to drive, and also hearing the turbos makes the drive even more fun!

Yeah, these are not made by spoon but the same concept.
@@Samurai6936 Wow didn't know spoon had a competitor
Big shoutout to Erik for bringing out his RX-7! Follow him on IG here: instagram.com/s2kerik/
Reminder to clean the inside of your windshield.
And don't you dare use Windex
@nah wait why not? 0.0
@@hardymcfardythe1st464 It fogs up really bad and isn't safe to use on tint. It's also just not very good at all.
@nah huh. Good to know otherwise I would have done that 🤣
What product should I use to clean it? Just regular water?

What a great car. It's easy to see how fun it is at stock+. (Also this guys garage is nutty)
bro just casually going for a leisure drive with the fd and then a freakin nsx in front of bro
that's the dream right there
You are by far my favorite car review channel. Your commentary is very good and straight forward. The fpv is always great and your audio is excellent.

The best car Mazda ever produced in my opinion. This one is done correctly too.👌🏽🔥🔥
can you griddy in the next video
Bruh
His head cam would be perfect for it😂
Please no
He needs to
I second this, please Toph hear our pleas
Honestly mazda made an absolute masterpiece of a car, except its not for the average person
but the automatic version is
Very satisfying exhaust note
Stock twins with all the supporting mods gave mine about 350 wheel and it was great racing and beating most cars bc light weight...the RX7 can never loose
such a creative license plate
God I pray to have the chance to own one of these one day. I also like the rx8 as a cheap and fun alternative.
That car is gorgeous!
This RX-7 is beautifulll, the outside reminds me of TJ Hunt’s old setup on his Supra
Love you Topher!! ❤️
Gorgeous car!!
Funnily enough my nan use to drive this car and i always found it odd because it was essentially anything but a family car you'd drive due to the cramped seating in the back
Test drove one of these back in the day… but drove out with a Daytona Shelby Z.
Safe to say you drove off with the inferior car...lol
😍
Loved my 94.

They do that a lot on Lexus cars
Rams have nice analog clusters
Really nice car with a guy who seems to get how to build OEM+ and not ruin what the car was meant to be.
Music to my ears
beautiful car in a beautiful place
that car is amazing bro
Such a treat !
Dang, Tony Stark impersonator drives the DX7.
What a beauty 🔥
crazy to think this Car is almost 30 Years old?! WTH
This is the one I want
What a jewel yes yes yes
Smooth
Good job 👏👏👏
Trop belle j'adore cette voiture 😁😁👍
Is the steering wheel meant to be like that? BTW watching this was giving me anxiety lol but he's a great driver.
Definitely better scenery than Beck Rd. & M-14.
Great video! Were you able to get behind the wheel of his FC RX-7? Those were out when I was in high school and I like them very much.
Most beautiful front of any car I have seen to date. Not a big fan of the back though as those tail lights are too big
Wanted to see the headlights pop up.. 🥺
Brap brap
Would sell well
Today . Better than MK Supra. But u better know how to drive tail happy No stability control etc
"im glad you havent v8 swapped it.... have you always liked rotaries?" the owners response sound-effect basically says "uhhh no time to swap it out"
for a moment i thought i was watching @Tedward lol
8:16 "It takes some..." ?
awesome car i wanna be in that seat
May I ask how tall you are? I'm 6'4 and always wondered if I could even fit in an FD RX7
Cute
Says he can’t afford track days but has $7500+ spirit r recaros 😂
Best ass of the car industry.
few things are as nerve racking as driving someone else's RX7 next to them hoping something doesn't break
Topher a roatery brother 😳
Why did neither of the videos on this car feature a start-up?
Cause rotaries are finicky and heat is their enemy. Didn't want to turn the car off after hard driving so we just let it keep cool in between youtubers driving it.
Twin turbo 1.3 liter rotary.
anybody know what blow off valve it has making that noise or is that just the surge from the intake?
what a nice timibg
Cleanest rotary timibg I’ve ever seen tbh
where are these filmed
malibu canyons
The Keisuke mobile
and after this amazing 90´s Japanese sportscar, Mazda comes in the 2000´s with the RX-8 and kill the RX name
Emissions killed the RX name
@@bfiremitch yeah that also.
A shame it isnt stock...these were great cars in their day but a bit fragile.
They caught on fire when they were stock. The owner of this one talked about how he re-did the fuel system, because these cars were known to catch on fire, even when new and stock.
I don’t really like these videos where the owner is in passenger seat. Hard to say why, I just don’t.
I identify with the owner.
They don't trust you with their car.
i can't blame them
Yeah, I get it. check out tedwards review. In his, he's by himself
YOOOOOOOOOOO
It's only weakness is an 86 corolla
These were a blast with a stick..an auto sucked the life out of them.
Toyota GR86 or SCION-FRS
I hate when they take out the stock radio and put those cheesy looking aftermarket radios in there.
it totally ruin the aesthetics of the car.
Is it only me or the video's frame-rate is really low?
It's fine, it's 60 FPS. If your monitor has a different refresh rate it might look weird, try setting it to 60 Hz for most videos
Got a Milesperhr ad lol
sssssssssssssssssssssssssuper nice
dash looks crooked 😆
I had a boss that had one. I enjoyed blowing the doors off of him in my Camaro 😂
Eh, I smoked plenty of Gen 5 Camaro SS when I had my FD (380 rwhp)
Straight line bragging 😂 Take one on a proper track and you'll actually have something to brag about.
@@slimjim77M This was 30 years ago. I still wouldn't drive one 🤣
a shame those old camaros couldn't turn though.
I can feel the cringe of the owner
If you don’t like your car driven don’t sing up for drive reviews please
Drift it already
So that is the face of someone who buys a 3rd Gen RX7 then destroys it with tasteless mods.
yessir!
Hard to watch with cross over steering
