- Start-up, gentle flight and shut down of a JR Venture 30 glow powered heli. This is a twenty year old model that has been recently restored.
All original except the muffler.
Original woodie blades.
Engine is OS 32 SX.
Gyro is a Spektrum AR636A receiver re-programmed to provide a rate gyro on the rudder channel only. Set at 60% it gives the same feel as a mechanical rate gyro from 'back in the day'.
More information about the JR Venture can be found on the Vintage Radio Helicopter website here:

Took me a little while to remember how to start it as I've been flying a different heli recently.
This helicopter brings me such nostalgia! I remember seeing this heli as a kid, and I basically begged my dad for it. Not realizing that these aren’t “easy” to fly as a beginner.
Not sure why this heli brought so much nostalgia for so many people, but I’d like to know what brought that on for so many!
That was the heli I taught myself to fly RC helicopters with. Great memories. Out of 10-15 plane flyers that tried heli's I was the only one to figure it out and got pretty good at it, still liked the planes as well. I went on to fly JR Vibe 50, Nexis 30, Ergo 30 and 50, and Kyosho caliber 30-which was an awesome flying heli for a 30 size, among others; The Vibe and caliber were awesome. Our flying club has since been discontinued, along with our field and all the flyers. I took up golf.... but wow do I still miss those days. Nitro all the way, the sound, smell, tinkering to get it perfect was all awesome. Great video, thanks for sharing.
So much better than those boring drone things they invented these days
Tanks,it Was my first rc hélicoptère in 90' 😊😊
That flew beautifully
Nitro all the way, nice flight ❤
I love my venture 30 it was my first nitro helicopter found it on marketplace 75 bucks just thrown in somebody's garage got her fixed up and flying had it for about a year ended up having a boom strike so I ended up converting it to fbl using a raptor x50 head fly so good
love it!!old school rocks!!
Absolutely
Makes me wish I still had my Kyosho Nexus 30.
I have fond memories from the very early 1980s as I saw such helicopters hanging in the roof for display. Our my toy/hobby store at home / Sweden. Beleive they were mighty expensive and it was said they were difficult to fly. Only masters could pull it off.
Everything's hard before it become easy
Very nicely Done!
Thanks for you kind comment. I've lost count of the amount of your videos that I have watched over the years - always entertaining.
@@DavidJones-ny1xv Thanks much!
Its a a nitro flavored air freshener dispenser. Yum
Looks great 👍🏼 where I can find this blue hex shaft for starter please?
Thanks. The hex came from a cheap set of long reach metric allen keys. I machined an extension for it that fits into a cordless drill.
@@DavidJones-ny1xv I got it 🍻thanks lot🤞🏼
I have one of these but really not good at the setup or programming my radio so it just sits here 😞 also not sure what to use for a flight battery
Hopefuly you can find somebody at a local club that can help with the TX programming. I use these battery flight packs, mainly because they are available in Australia and the four cells suit the older electronics that I use:

@@DavidJones-ny1xv thanks for the info!!
I bought a venture jr . How do I know If i have a gas or nitro?
Being a JR Venture it would most likely be a glow engine (Nitro). Easiest way to tell is to take out the glow or spark plug and have a look. To be sure, take the heli to your local hobby shop or model airplane club and ask them.
it's my now
Still hanging up in my workshop 🙂
Apart from this beautiful restoration, I'm also impressed you were able to reprogram an 636A. Was it from another heli or a plane previously?
Thanks. The AR636A was from an Eflite carbon cub. They are quite easy to re-program, including getting rid of 'safe and panic' modes. Just need to re-flash the frimware to version 1.43 using the Spektrum USB programming cable and the Spektrum Programmer Software. I have done a couple of these receivers now. You can find all of this info here:

@@DavidJones-ny1xv nice work!!. I never thought of that and had resigned myself to having these great receivers with limited application due to the perceived locked nature of them.
@@DavidJones-ny1xv thanks heaps for that tip
