MonacledPotato yessssss! Now it’s gonna be out in 2031 as opposed to 2033! (Just kidding lads, keep up the awesome work. I know you guys really wanted proper model viewing).
Hahaha, I wish I could tell you about some specific stuff we're working on but I have sworn into a blood oath of secrecy and will probably immediately die if I told you anything. Probably.
YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE MADMAN AND I LOVE YOU, I'VE NEVER FELT THE NEED TO BE THAT GUY THAT BEGS FOR SOMETHING BUT OH MY GOD PLEASE CONTINUE WORK ON THE WIDESCREEN 60FPS FEATURE (in whatever free time you can spare, of course), I'VE NEVER FELT SUCH UP A RAW DESIRE FOR SOMETHING
SOOO DAMN SMOOTH AND MODEL EXPORTS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED HOLY CRAP!! Will there be anything related to spyro 1 in the future or anymore multiplayer features? And that new 60 fps spyro version honestly looks like a new engine but if it's even possible would this mean we are even closer to importing custom assets and making brand new levels? If so would love to see something like spring savanna or ma levels ported over someday! Spyro the dragon: Lxshadow strikes back!
i second curiosity for spyro 1 hacking capabilities! seems it's a tough nut to crack compared to 2 and 3 but it would be so insanely cool to get to fiddle with the models like we can for the others games. with the objects tab i've managed to view the animations of a few models in spyro 1 and resurrect a few dead ones, but that's about it. it's just a very manual process since the model list isn't there and you can't use 'find nearby objects'. spyro 1 doesn't like to play nice either so it's always crashing the emulator ._. rude
I have no plans for Spyro 1, because its engine is different and I'm not as big a fan. But having SpyroEdit on GitHub now could potentially offload that work to more interested hackers :) If I find the time though I'll fix the crash bugs so the working features can do their thing. Importing assets is such a big challenge! No plans for that at the moment. There's also lots of things to discuss about the idea. The novelty of having custom models running on old hardware is appealing; however, it's limited, and as this video shows, there are alternative ways of technically expanding the Spyro games. Depends on how we value authenticity and potential. I may add a pure discussion video so everyone can better understand the requirements and limitations behind-the-scenes :)
Ah alright! Hopefully other people decide to join in on the project! And a video explaining the limits of all this modding would honestly be great! Importing custom assets is something that I'm sure would make spyro games have much more replay value! Not sure if this is even possible but if it ever happens that we go as far as to stop using the emulator and somehow turn the ps1 spyro into a full pc .exe game that would probably get rid of a lot of limitations! Not sure if that new renderer is only for visual stuff and fps or is there something more for that to come? (Hd minecraft water mods in spyro) lel
Hey LXshadow, i've been a long time fan of your hacks. I have to say with this one though, I have been blown out of water. I couldn't imagine the hours you consumed on this, between writing meticulous code and other personal matters that can really strip you of leisure time. It must of been the best feeling of satisfaction and relief when you finally completed it huh? haha. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all the time and effort that went into making this, and that I'm excited to finally be able to use this. Keep up the good work!
Hi, and thanks! It means a lot to me. Yeah, making it was a lot like you say! But driven partly by a strong curiosity to discover the possibilities. Admittedly, it's an obsession. But our inner Spyro geeks ain't complaining. Thank you very much for your kind comment :)
This is amazing work. I'm begging you, PLEASE finish the renderer so I never have to care about the reignited trilogy ever again. 60fps Spyro 2 and 3 is the only thing I've ever truly wanted in my life.
I tried running Spyroedit and was going to change around some gem locations in a level in Spyroedit 2.2, but when I go to Send All Objects the gems no longer load in Genesis?
Model extraction!!!! That's amazing :D, well no this entire thing is amazing :D, like Holy fuck seriously!! If you and or other people perfected that thingy with the other renderer we could make an amazing 60FPS, high quality textures, no draw distance, no vertex jitter etc version of Spyro 2 and 3 to play... That's... Wow, I would honestly rather see that then a full on remake like the Reignited Trilogy (not saying I don't want the Reignited Trilogy though haha).
Have you ever considered to reverse engineer the game and do a prototype to show to Activi$ion to see if they are interested in releasing the classic versions for new systems in HD?
Like...the Reignited Trilogy? ;P Edit: In seriousness, they wouldn't do it. Doesn't mean we can't, but to be honest there's much more potential in remaking the games entirely and I'm glad they brought TFB aboard to do it. It's looking fantastic. I hope it comes to PC!
LXShadow To be fair, that's how the remastered ports of Sonic CD and Sonic the hedgehog 1 and 2 came to be. A fan made a port of Sonic CD in 16:9 and updated features running on mobile devices and Sega saw it and was like "Yes please, we'll pay you to continue doing this" Sega and Activision are 2 vastly different companies, but that's where the line of thinking comes from, at least
You built an entire engine that hooks into Spyro and renders its own version? I'm actually angry I didn't think of that. I'm looking at your source code now.
"Waifu2D" is an interesting slip. LXShadow is a weeb confirmed ;P Jokes aside, I was not expecting an update this soon. That smooth 60 FPS was not something I thought I wanted for Spyro. It looks sooo good! Great work mate!
Hey, I'm a weeb janai! waifu2x is just the sugoiest way to enlarge my waifu, which is Sparx desu. He's super kawaii and needs more aishiteru. I'm gonna vomit desu.
Hahahaha That is so cooru desu! Waifu2x is best-o way-o to enrarge my 2D waifu! Your weeb skirrz-o is sugoi! I sharru now jump off the nearest criff-o desu.
If this is compatible with Spyro 1 PS1 and has a multiplayer patch, then that means we could have an entirely new game engine just from modding Spyro. I mean, look at VALVe's game engine, Source! Source came from GoldSrc, which came from Quake, which came from DOOM. Could the Spyro engine be a revolutionary new engine with machine-specific optimization? And most importantly, you can now add all the ridiculous sci-fi stuff you want.
Hey bro, can u make the download link of SpyroEdit's source? I'm newbie in programming, can u tell me some program to edit this? (I'm not referring to visual studio, but to spyro, capture of animations codes etc) I'm Brazilian, sorry for the bad english..
Hey man! To use git version control properly, I recommend TortoiseGit. If you just want to play around with the source, there's download links (.zip files) here: github.com/LXShades/spyroedit/releases Unless you mean the source code of the Spyro games, which is harder to explain. Only the assembly code is available. I use my own real-time debugger that I made, based on ps2dis, which I've just uploaded to the Dropbox: www.dropbox.com/sh/wvxa4ldvsw96bs5/AAAimMKkB_CJxWLt6nhyIWY_a?dl=0 The tool lets you analyse and edit the code of the game, which is in MIPS assembly. I recommend searching for guides on PS1 and PS2 hacking to learn how to do it ^^
Can i ask you a simple question, can you make a fan game outta of this, is it possible just saying, because it makes me wanna create a Spyro fan game with there objects an animations.
It would be possible and I can think of particular ways to achieve it--but it would require a high programming standard for something so niche. So depends on if there's an audience and a supplier ^^;
THIS IS MADNESS. LXShadow you're a god among the spyro community. You've literally opened so many doors in terms of fan content now. Thank you!
Just wanted to say thanks so much for this! This is really gonna help with some spring savanna stuff!
MonacledPotato yessssss! Now it’s gonna be out in 2031 as opposed to 2033!

Glad I could help! Spring Savanna is looking fantastic! :D looking forward to seeing what you're working on!
You are a fucking God. This is an insane level of progress!
Holy shite, totally nuts. Thank you so much for your hard work LXShadow!
This seems like a good alternative to the widescreen hack because it actually renders more things on the side of the screen
Extracting models? Its like inventing wheel again! Youre amazing, I wonder how fan games will progress from this points.

Mahogany Vince 60fps is a godsend, and spyro edit is like having that 1990's/2000's PC spyro port we never got.
SOOO DAMN SMOOTH AND MODEL EXPORTS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED HOLY CRAP!!

Ghostie Yeah It would be amazing to see some hacks for Spyro 1 some day.

NOTE FOR 144HZ MONITOR USERS: *IT WORKS*
I'm a big HFR fan myself and actually recorded this whilst playing at 144hz on my XL2411Z. High five!
This is simply nuts!!!
The potential of this thing is UNREAL!!! :D
This is seriously incredible. Thank you so much for your hard work!
STRAIGHT. UP. INSANE.
this is seriously amazing!

Oh snap, yes I've noticed that glitch and forgot to fix it before release. I might be able to make time this weekend. Thanks for the heads-up!
The cut-scene and level IDs start at "8006323C".
How did you make Spyro 3 open matte without corruptions and disable blending?
Also, the aspect ratio on the rendered should be vert+.
Erm, could you rephrase both please? I don't know what open matte or vert+ is, haha

Amazing.
It crashes for me as soon as I start the game on ePSXe version 2.0.5-
Why?
I have done everything in the tutorial-
but it doesn't work in any way-

LXShadow i wonder if you can make a fan game with Blender?
I think Blender has some game creation tools, but I doubt they're super powerful. You'll probably want something like Unity or Unreal :)
2:05 VERY funny
