- HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THE CORRECT SIDE BEND IN YOUR GOLF SWING? Much easier than you think! The pros you see on tour got this body language right when they were playing junior golf because their swings were fearless and their attention was on beating their opponents to their targets in the least amount of strokes possible.
The human-machine once again is suited for following the focus you are holding in your mind at the time you are swinging; if you hold the wrong thing in your mind, you will pay the price. Learn to place the right things front and center in the mind and you will be amazed at what your machine is capable of!

Shawn, I came across your channel earlier this year. In retrospect, the lockdown was a blessing, at least as far as my golf game is concerned. I set up a net and mat in my basement and have totally reinvented my swing based on much of your teachings. My first game a couple of weeks ago was a real eye opener. Not only we’re my shots straighter, they were at least 2 clubs longer. I think I commented on an earlier video regarding this. For a 66 yr old I can tell you I have a renewed interest because I know I can even do better. To that end, I will be working on what you have demonstrated in this lesson. Thanks for your simple to apply instructions.
Right on Brian! Way to adapt the wisdom! This is a very typical transformation believe it or not and so happy and proud to have another terrific representative for Wisdom in Golf out there!
FYI: our premium channel, where you will find my life’s work of over 400 videos with dual camera-overhead views, on course play, student lessons etc... is www.wisdomingolfpremium.com and starts at only $9.95 per month.
What a Team ! A full understanding of the total grip and therefore the hammer nail down image from the vertical to the horizontal execution is a 70% of a successful strike, in my case has meant a 20% yardage increase with all my clubs , significantly with the driver. You guys can be proud , your lessons are
second to none. Giant thanks !!!
So great of you to put the pieces together and get the whole picture! Fantastic comment; we can read how you completely understand what it means to deliver all the way through with ease to target!
Side bend I believe is the number 1 slice causer. I can look at my old swing I would get lead side bend in the backswing and not mean to but hold it and fire. This is why I enjoy your videos. What I can’t find anywhere else i can find here. Gotten me a lot better. Thanks
The CREAM always rises to the top! 👍😀
I found your videos last week when my coach had me working on weight transfer and I felt like I knew what I had to do, but I couldnt get my body to do it. When I saw your drills about cutting grass and throwing the club it was like a lightbulb going off. I love the way you explain WHY we have to execute certain movements and not just HOW we do it, your way of communicating the sensations we should get in the golf swing are so clear and understandable. Thank you and all the best from Scotland!
Right on Martin! You are already Pinocchio without the strings and can do no wrong. What is the task that is going to light you up? Throwing the club and cutting through weeds with your grass whip towards a specific direction. To focus on the ball invites chaos and sabotage in the kinetic chain. Keep it up! 👌😀👍
10 more years past, you are still the best teacher among all the others.
Merci Shawn, grâce à vous je sais maintenant jouer au golf avec facilité! quel plaisir; Vous êtes un magicien. Je vous suis infiniment reconnaissant ! Respect total!🙏
Merci à ton beau commentaire, je suis ravis! 😀👍
10 more years past, you are still the best among all the other teachers.
Thank you Raymond! Much appreciate the kind words; it means I care and I continue to do my homework! 💪👍😀

Shawn, I've recently been made aware of the importance of the trail elbow. Your side tilt is what I need to be able to clear my trail elbow in the downswing. Because I have extra girth in the midsection, if I don't side tilt as much as you, or possibly a bit more, on the downswing my trail elbow is blocked and the face ends up into the ball quite closed. So really fight the hooks. I did a workaround where I focused on your 'out there' finish a la Moe Norman and that helped alot. But the ultimate solution is more primary tilt, more secondary tilt, and still have the out there finish. Thanks for all you do for the golfing public.
You are welcome and you are on the right track! Did you see the “best lesson I ever got from Moe Norman Shawn Clement” video?
Love your passion and professionalism, Shawn.
Great video as always.... going "after the money...that a way...."
Thx for the tilt tip....
Always a clear message. You guys speak my golf language. 👍
Trying to bust it through the wood adds some speed to my swing without even thinking about adding speed! Thanks for another great explanation!
Your videos have changed my game. I have gotten compliments from random players that I get paired up with on the course, but I remember that you made a video with Sav and you said if a instructor holds your head and tells you to swing run🏃 😆
Now you know HOW TO hold the head in a position that ALLOWS THE GOLFER TO COMPLETE THE BACKSWING and then can RELEASE DEEP THROUGH THE BALL TOWARDS THAT TARGET.
Great tks from Sai gon - Việt Nam! I have found my best way to play golf ...tks Shawn clement, best golf coach
thank you Duong! 😀👍
That was kick-ass! Shawn Mu and Sav breakin' s**t!! Seriously though - great vid. Loved the last one on putting. Helped me out with the long putts today.
This is the thing that got me fixed Shawn, after my Torrey Pines debacle. Keeping the head in that tilted position throughout impact, and also focusing on keeping it from sliding toe to heel during impact. I have a very clear feel of my body moving through impact below my right shoulder as a result. Not that I'm thinking of positions! 😂 But, it's a resultant feeling through impact as a result. I find the head not sliding toe to heel during impact the thing that is really important for me right now.
Brilliant,
Brilliant! 👍 I like the visual aid in this lesson. I have a rubber practice mat tee I can use as the 'door frame' in my practice basement. I can use an alignment stick into the tee for a more pronounced visual. (No, I don't intend to hit the alignment stick) Unfortunately, I can't hit real golf balls down there but I can use foot spray for checking my clubface to ball contact point striking foam practice balls.
These videos are incredible!
You need to check out our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com!
Hi Shawn, Sav & Mu,
I just wanted to say I've just had an epiphany, and can finally "feel the weight of my arm-club unit" and I am finally starting to be able to feel the club head like "a ball on a string".
I know you say it always, but I didn't "understand" until now. Now I can finally try and apply more of your words... slowly slowly the grind down from 25 to singles..... maybe not achievable, but fun to try (and frustrating!)
In my opinion Shawn understates the importance of the head tilt and spine angle. These should be one of the first things taught as they are absolute fundamentals - at least in my view!! In my experience applying the principles in this video creates a chain reaction in my golf swing. They 'require' me to apply a powerful grip and gives me a lovely wide back swing resulting in solid contact with the ball. I am left looking at even and consistent divots after the ball launches into a predictable and controllable flight. End result is an oh so subtle draw as a stock shot!! It's actually a little embarrassing. Now the low markers at my club talk to me!!
Someone has been to wonderland! 😀👍 Now time to slip into some deeper zones of performance! 👌
Very good video
Sav Cracked Me Up!!😂😂😂
For those beginners and struggling with low point, what you are doing is encouraging them to Hang Back, drop the trail shoulder excessively, and likely hitting fat shots if they do not rotate and extend and pull their left shoulder up and back.
See an important video called “delofting through proper tilt”
i wish we had teachers like you in Scotland. Most just look at numbers in Trackman, and try to line you up to suit what looks good, then lesson over. Going to the range to practice is ill fated as no one wants to hit bad shots. They try new things, to prevent injury, hit some duffers, everyone turns round, and you get straight back into old swing mode. The real issue with club golfers, isn't what they are trying to achieve, it's how it looks to everyone else around them. Stand and watch someone on the opposite hole make an approach to the green, and they will mess it up. Put another ball down in the same spot without a care in the world, and they'll pop it on the green.
Haha, lots of wisdom in what you are saying! 😝😀👍
Agreed! 100% need instruction like this in Scotland!
@@alan5457 thank you for the kind words Gents! 👍😀
Shawn I have a question. Which do you support on the downswing? A) straighten that front leg and snap that knee like there's no tomorrow B) Keep the front knee bent at impact
By the way I saw a video.... Rory's front knee is not straight at impact. One of best golfers of all time Byron Nelson... bent at impact and knee actually moves past the foot parallel to the target line at impact!
We don’t want to extend AT THE BALL; we are collecting the ball from where it lies (knees bent and trail arm still in the process of extending and not extended yet and then we EXTEND AT THE TARGET!
Scramble team!!
I watched one of your driver videos on how to get more accurate shots. There you were swinging the driver like skipping the stone or just skip the grass. I wanted to know how you get this move as I keep hitting the ground and I am not getting the skip the grass sound. So, came here and saw the head location at the set-up. For right-handed swing do we tilt the head away from the target and look at 6inches or so behind the ball and keep the hands forward. Please confirm.
One of your best visual videos yet. Im sharing these latest episides.
By the way Shawn, what do you think of the looong pause in Phil Mickelson putting? Like to hear your thoughts on that and his use of driver for putting move.
any kind of manipulation IS A MASSIVE WASTE OF TIME. He is barking up the wrong tree thinking it’s the strokes’s fault. Did you see my “never miss another short putt again shawn clement wisdom in golf” video?
Historic!
I get that the low point comes after the ball but what about the entry point? Must it come after the ball also, or under the ball, or before the ball? As always, thanx!
When I get ready to hit the ball it seems that I have to place my club with the ball at the tip of my club then I get a good strike. Am I extending my arms when I swing? It there a problem with my setup? Tks Marc
Hey Marc! On our premium channel, you will see “blur of club” and the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” as well as the “alignment reload” video; this will get you some solid references to ba able to predict contact! Then see “predict contact”, and the “goldilocks series”
Shawn is it easy to get setup with the handle so far in front of ball? It seems also that you and your students play with the ball about middle of stance. Am I seeing that right?
Interesting video but where is any info on tilt and side bend in the swing ?!?
It is in the focus towards the target; where you let the tilt and side bend adjust to the task; on our premium channel we have the “tilt mile markers” “contact mile markers”, “head and hip swivel” and “hammer drill” to guide you step by step!
www.wisdomingolfpremium.com
Guilty as charged 100% !
I'm all over this like a starving hobo on baloney samiches. :)
Sometimes when I try to feel like I keep my head back I will top my irons. Is this because my weight is too far on the trail side, or perhaps my ball is too far forward in my stance?
EXACTLY!!! You need to know where your low point is. See “tilt acid test shawn clement wisdom in golf” an oldie but goodie! Then see “predict solid contact and direction shawn clement”
Our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com has a nice series on tilt!
how do you stretch before a round?
Check out our series of workouts on our facebook page and the last 4 weeks has a superb mobility session on the Wednesday!!
Thanks for having lefty models lol
Hi Shawn. Are you still going doing the yoga for golf? I am currently on a short lockdown in Australia but hope to get back on the course soon. Have been doing yoga for strength and flexibility in the interim.
Cheers, Steven
PS - Been listening keenly to you talk about the door frame for near on 10 years. Great to see you finally bust one down ! :-)
Munashe has enviable lag!
I'm desperate, considering quiting golf. Please recommend a video that rescue me from the deep deep rabbit hole that I'm in, thanks.
Go immediately to “grass whip training shawn clement” and get really good at cutting grass with a whipping action in a very specific direction. Then plug that into your shots to a target and have a blast!
Thanks, sounds good to me. Tomorrow I will cut grass with a Ping lawn mower.
@@johncalton3497 I was there, man, just this spring. At a minimum, I was throwing away my driver. Always the highest scores, a handicap the was on an upward trend, always the shortest hitter. A really nice book to read as a companion is "Your 15th Club"; recommended to me by Donna at the Richmond Hill Golf Centre. I joined the premium channel and got a video analysis from Shawn. He reminded me that I am not defective (one of his fave sayings); I was just thinking incorrectly. Best of luck and I am sure that you will turn it around!
PS: Throwing the club video is also a great start
@@jasonhowie108 Thanks for the encouraging words Jason. Without being too analytical, I think I was in "swing thought prison", I had head worms, or paralysis by analysis. The six inches between my ears was where the problem lay. Arnold Palmer said it best, "golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated". I'll check into "Your 15th Club". They say you're only as good as your last swing, I birdied 18 today, I'm back in the saddle again!LOL. Thanks again.
R
No
Isn’t this more of a driver swing, with irons you want to cover the ball, hitting the ball on the downswing with the head and sternum on top of the ball, creating the low point ahead of the ball.
Low point ahead yes, but too far ahead is no good as well! You don’t want to go through the ball and into the ground; you want through and along the ground towards the direction you want the ball to start!
maeu59 did Munashe and Shawn not hit irons? Were their low points not in front of the ball? Nothing misleading. When you see the driver video, the ball will be further up, in the stance, allowing for contact as the clubhead returns to an upward traj.
@@jaker1160 perfectly explained! 😀👍💥💪
maeu59 thanks, i very gladly will! Way too many years of bad swings and bad strikes, the old way.
Very good video
Thank you very much kind sir!! 😀👍
