Miss This Key Move And Your Golf Will Suffer

- How frustrating is it to work on your swing only to get worse? If that sounds familia then this video is a must watch as if you miss this key move your game will suffer
Side bend needs to be part of everyone's downswing move, and even more so if you are trying to work on your lower body rotation.
Here I show you how to 'feel' this key move, practice it and then take it into your full swing.

For me personally your last 5 videos are the Holy Grail, for anyone struggling those videos are just raw!
Thanks David, appreciate that and hope they have helped
I’ve had the shanks for almost 2 months now and this video did it!!!! I had the best range session I’ve had in months! Thank you for sharing this video and your amazing teaching style. I highly recommend trying this for better ball striking. Feels good to hit the ball again. Thanks again!
We've made the golf swing the most difficult thing in the universe to learn. Searching for the Higgs boson by building the great Hadron Collider is childs play compared to the over analysis of the golf swing that everyone has a different theory on.
Missing link in my golf swing. I think I tried it years ago but other items were way off. Now that I had fixed those basic issues, this has new meaning. INSTANTLY my strikes were pure, ball flight was correct, and I have a renewed passion in the game. It automatically fixes so many things. I like to think about resting my head on a pillow during strike. Thank you so much!
I love so many of your videos Chris and this one is absolutely spot on and makes complete sense to me. Going to start using the tips presented here right away!! Thank you !!!
Thanks Chris. This was the missing move in my golf swing. My driver distance and ball flight has improved tremendously. 20 yds further and baby draws all day. Has my golf buddies talking! Lol.
Chris, I am there now. Paused at the 2.30 mark to add this comment. Last outing was like I never golfed before. As was last 2 buckets of range balls. Have watched thousands of videos, made things worse. Just want to start from scratch again . Thank you ...continue watching ...
Great exercises to work on ! I think it could be my problem. Could never understand why my divots were looking like outside to in. Thank you , john m
That is absolutely my problem. Thank you for this video Chris. It definitely helps to see it as I can't feel it when it's happening.
Great tips yet again Chris, played the Arden on Tuesday and the practice facilities are exceptional. If only every club had these areas
Great explanation of the swing mechanics in visual form. I’ll take this to the range for definite. Thanks keep up the good work.
Thanks, Chris. Another really simple drill to help develop one of the fundamental moves in every good golf swing. And full marks for leaving in the poor shot - makes you more relatable 😉
RAW! But seriously, this is a great explanation. I stumbled upon this concept by accident when I realized I played better when I did a thorough warm-up that included yoga-style side bends, but I didn't fully understand what was going on until I saw one of your earlier videos on the topic.
best exercise so far to learn how to compress the ball, thanks a lot.
Hey Chris, this was another eye-opener ! You have a great understanding of commnicating swing mechanics. Great job !!!
Definitely a missing link for me. Thank you, has made a big difference to me in transition into impact and keeping some lag!
I have been struggling with trying to be open and had all sorts of issues including the dreaded S. This is such a great vid as now, I finally know what to do. Thanks Chris you are a star! Keep up the great work and thank you again.
Great video. While doing the exercise I was able to check out my alignment at address and found that my shoulders were open. Made the correction to my swing during the week and it has worked out great. Thanks for the tip.
Definitely struggle with this. Always appreciate what your do Chris!
Thanks
Brilliant video as always Chris.....well explained!
Another aha moment form Chris Ryan Golf! I have been performing this move somewhat properly with driver and hybrids but for whatever reason failing to do so with irons. Can't wait to get to the range and add this fix. Thanks Chris!
Really good stuff, one of my friends had seen this video and been practicing this drill. I was struggling with the over the top move on the golf course today and he showed me this drill which I rehearsed on the tee while we were waiting. Less than 5 minutes with this drill and I was flushing it. Much higher trajectory and straight shots instead of the low left snipe. Thank you for this video!
thank you!! this is why I pull hard left at times and have had no idea what has go wrong
Love this drill. Amazing stuff. Thank uou
The two bad shots you mentioned, shank and pull left are exactly what we’re wrong with my game yesterday. Back to the range with side bend 🤞
Watched a bunch of vids on this subject and this is the only one that seems like it could help. Thank you.
Thanks Bob really hope it does
Great video Chris, that’s exactly my problem and I have been playing for donkeys years but this over the top has recently crept into my game, I have started on this drill which I think is the best one I have seen in all the tips I have looked at on UA-cam, that’s my problem, too many
Well done! Best explanation. Thank you.
Love the drill and I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks Chris. You're a star!
Thanks
Great lesson thanks
I worked on this drill before playing 9 yesterday. This was a critical piece I was missing in my swing. I'm going to put this in my warm up routine to keep that shoulder moving correctly. I really smashed the ball when it all came together. Great stuff as always Chris, thank you for posting this!
Love this Paul, really glad the video helped
This is a wonderful video. Great explanation and excellent drill. I’ll be working on this, this week.
This was just what I needed to get the timing right. Thanks Chris.
Thanks Steven
This video was uncannily timely. I was at the range this morning and a PGA professional took a video of my swing and showed me that exact swing fault. I quickly focused getting my lower body to move out of the way as the club came through to come more on the inside and it was an instant fix. I’m not completely ‘cured’ since that swing fault was something I’ve always struggled with but at least I know the correct feeling to fix it.
Sounds like you have a great coach there helping you, makes such a bit difference
Great video! Very well explained! I just had (probably) an "Ah Ha" moment that reminds me "feel isn't always real". Lots of times when I chunk the ball, I blame it on dropping my shoulder, because that's what it feels like... but watching this, the correct move is a dropping of the right shoulder, as the body "tilts" (or rotates on the consistent axis...), while my miss chunk is (probably) caused by me opening my whole body and coming over the top and forced to drop everything to try to make contact. Ugh, sorry for the poorly written rambling, but the video really helped give me a new swing though/ focus.
The intro to this video explains where my game is at to a tee. Before lessons I wasn’t great but at least I was consistently average, after lessons where I was encouraged to rotate more and open up my body my game has gone to pot - so incredibly inconsistent, been hitting straight pulls out of bounds off the tee and then shanking my irons. I think I’ve hit more shanks in the past month than I hit in 5 years of golf prior. Having looked back at a recent video of my swing I can tell that this drill will be a good one for me to practice. Cheers Chris.
Thanks for sharing. This was extremely informative/helpful with my current swing training issues.
Thanks Bill
Thank you Chris. That was an eye opener :)
So this is the real body separation everyone talks about. Lower body rotates to the target. Upper body first tilts away from the target and then turns to the target.
I truly think this has to be the best tip/swing thought / move I’ve ever heard. I lost my way with my swing a little and this has put me straight back to my old ball flight. It’s truly a miracle! 👍🏻 I hit two balls and BOOM! There it was
This ist one of the best and most important videos for my swing i ever saw. thank you so much, i had any diffuse idea about this but i never got explained it this simply and clear.
Thanks, really glad it was helpful
Chris, I will try this drill with the sticks…. Great 👍 instruction, thanks 😊 🙏
Very helpful. Thanks
Chris, what's really great about these two drills is their instant feedback! Fail to make the correct side bend, and you see, hear, & feel it immediately.
Great tips! Thank you sir
takeaway from this lesson, right shoulder down, left hip up and out of the way! thanks!
I've had a flat shoulder turn for so long I'd hate to admit it. This is the downswing move I see in all good golfers but I've never been able to accomplish it. Your drills and explanations are exceptional and I'm working on this in my living room given the current temperatures in Phoenix. Your videos are very clear and straight forward. Thanks for the work you do.
Hi Chris,
I’ve been struggling to find the correct feel when turning the upper and lower body in the down swing and this really is the missing link for me! It also addresses the over the top issue at the same time. 👍🏻
Me too!
Great Vid Chris, Thanks!
You’re the best👍🏻👍🏻 your lessons are great
Nice one Chris. Thanks.
Great drill and very well explained. Thank you 🙏
My pleasure
Hi Chris great video have tried that exercise and yes it does work... 👍 ( oh and that's a lovely hole at the forest ... played there a few weeks ago !! ) great course 👍👍 keep on with the vids they are helping me loads ...cheers
Great video.. I was struggling with this drill because I was getting the side bend, but my left hip was rising up instead of rotating. I’m sure others have this issue as well.
Always appreciate your videos, Chris.
Best instructor I found on the net, including french ones.
Very helpfull, especially this one , to fix my « over the top » 😉
Il works.
Thank you.
Normandy is on air. 😊
Thanks so much and glad the videos are helping
Great tips! I think issue solved , well explained ..great job
Never thought of it like that. Really simple idea beautifully explained.
Thanks Matthew
I never thought about it the way you explained it but it makes perfect sense and seems to cure many more flaws than just over the top.
Thanks Bill, sometimes better golf can be just a result of understanding the movement better, hopefully that will be the case with yourself, really hope it helps
Used this today and made a difference!
Really helped with my over the top move and release. Thanks!
Great to hear Julian
I feel lucky because I don’t have a lot of experience. I’m getting better FAST because I’m learning fresh from your videos and people that have been playing for decades with great advice. It’s nice to not have bad habits. Chris, THANK YOU for teaching. You the man!
Great instruction
Excellent drill!! Thx
Awesome video Chris. Wasn’t aware of this crucial detail.
Thanks Henrik
Very good visualisation of the sidebend with these alignement rods !
Instead of the stick in the ground I prefer the Hockey - Drill ( as shown by some American pros )
to bring down the right shoulder.
This is a fantastic visual with the sticks to demonstrate the importance of side bend.
Thanks Geoff
Great drill Chris
Hey Chris, I have to admit, I was one of those golfers who said I was going to work hard to implement this "exact move" to make better contact/compression and an overall better "uper core" move to get away from my historical "hands/arms" swing. After all the bad shots once or twice on the range I quickly gave up and went back to the old trusty swing. I will TRY AGAIN!
Brilliant simple drill to explain n practice side bend. Well done Chris!
Thanks
This is absolutely something I’ve struggled to do and I just eventually revert back to the swing that was somewhat working
Thanks for your help.
No problem Robert
Great video!!!
But I am sure you would agree that the lead shoulder must drop slightly before the back shoulder drops during the downswing.
Thanks for that, you have just identified my issue will work on this..
Thanks Gordon
Unbelievable video! Real eye opener! Thank you Chris!
My pleasure
Absolutely Chris. As a 7 handicapper, I keep trying to go 'Left'. In slo mo replay I can barely do it, but I can do it when I have side bend (I just took a look at my swings from the range last week), the hands go slightly inward (open my chest a bit), but the club is shallowing and going out a bit. Not like Tiger, or Hogan of course. And not like Chris Ryan either. But that bad move you talk about has hampered me on and off for years, eventually leading to me just giving up on trying to 'open'....which I think is a very difficult concept to understand, and even more difficult to perform. Your drill is magic here. TU!
Great video! So simple yet does so much! Is this also related to the video where you focus on swinging down with your arms? (where you are hitting the impact bag)
Great video! I got the shanks bad and I'm using the swing guide and need to focus on this move to stop them. Shanks are a killer.... 🙏🙏🙏☘☘☘
Hey Charles, this drill should hopefully allow you to avoid those dreaded shanks 👍
Great video. Love this.
Thanks daniel
This is brilliant thank you!
My pleasure
Excellent !👌
Another great explanation Chris. I also appreciate the final shot, not coming off exact. Good reminder that we are all human. Focus on getting move right, start with forgetting result.....
Thanks Michael and yeah it was a pretty terrible strike 😂😂
Excellent drill, superbly explained
Thanks
GOOD GOLF LESSON VIDEO
Thanks
Excellent clip with as usual great content, one of your best Chris. Gutted that you are no longer giving face to face golf lessons.
Thanks Barry appreciate that
So good that I have subscribed! I do this with a golf club box in front of me and in line with the target. Over the top swings and I hit the box without breaking my wrists!
But now I understand the side bend!
Thanks for the Sun Kurt, hope the videos help
Its this move that helps get a stronger clubface and a better release another gem video chris
Chris, as an instructor, using those alignment rods to touch is a magic way to explain the lean and for a student to be able to practice the move effectively all I can say is PERFECT!
Thanks John appreciate that
Those alignment sticks touching is gold
Brilliant!
Greatest dill ever! Thanks bro!
No problem 👊
Brilliant Chris you have just identified my issue with the dreaded shanks
Thanks ian
Solve my outside in issue. Thank you Sir!
My pleasure
Chris- have you ever done a video focusing on the trail shoulder in the downswing?
Thank you👏🏻
My pleasure
Great drill for feel and impact position 👍🏻
Thanks Tim
Chris your videos are spectacular, I'm going to start using them for my drills. How do I find someone that teaches like you do where I live to be an instructor? Because instructors do what you say "just get your body to an open position" but they don't put all the other pieces together, like the sidebend, and stuff, or how to move you into that position properly. What do I need to ask instructors to figure out if I have someone who teaches the way you do?
The swing thoughts you describe should be really helpful. One thing I really struggle with is doing drills at partial speed or swing at x% of a full swing. Mentally, it feels less “productive” and I go too quickly to full swings. I’m going to try hard to stick with the slower motion, less full swing you recommend as I work on my swing.
Much appreciated
Thank God and lucky i found you and subscribe.. followed for a year now..evrthing makes sense
Thanks James really appreciate that
Other thing is..i could be one of many S E Asian follower...happy summer and happy golfing..come here if you have a chance
Great vid, really helpful stuff! I've been fixing my sequencing, trying to start with the hips and really get them open at impact, but was still struggling for some consistency. I tried this out, and it definitely felt a bit weird - I think it's messing with my sense of my weight shifting to the left because my upper body is actually tilted to the right. Seems to 'look' light the right position at impact though, think it just needs some getting used to!
Hey Sam, good that it feels a little odd as that would suggest that it’s not something you currently do, the key is to try and integrate this into your swing slowly so that you swing has time to adjust to the new movements
Great series of lessons. Thank you
Thanks
@@ChrisRyanGolf coming to America anytime soon? Southwest Florida or central New Jersey?
Hi Chris, thanks for some great content on your channel, love watching your videos and was wondering about your latest video on side bend , I find it easier with irons getting side bend but struggle with Driver and fairway woods. I realise that the swing should be the same with all clubs but for some reason struggle doing it Driver. Can you advise.
Regards Jeff. PS keep up the great content.
Thank you Chris, yet another awesome set of drills. You and your lessons have, without doubt, been the main reason for getting my HC into single figures... and at 60+ that is no easy task! You’re a legend mate!
Great to hear and glad I could help
