    Great build and terrific effort on this. The scale appeals to me as its not as daunting. Keep it up, appreciate all the Sci-fi things.

    it looks for all the world like the ocean is sloshoing out of the tub i=on video. Litle bright spots along the rim look like water splashes. Pretty cool actually.

    I have a 1:350 scale Seaview kit arriving this week . So I've been on a crash course on images of the kit .But your diorama and it's process is facsinateing ,and the end product is just terrific . But I don't have the resources or skill level to do it .But thank you for your episode ....Yours truly DGR

      Thanks William. I have a lot of fond memories of watching the show as a kid with my older brother. Unfortunately the show started down the monster of the week path much like Lost in Space. Just doesn’t hold up as well as Trek. Still an enjoyable watch as long as u keep that in mind. Season is a bit more serious which is a good thing. The Seaview and the flying sub are fantastic miniatures and are two of my all time favorite ships. Thanks for your compliment.

    Wow you little diorama looks wonderful. It really is an accurate representation of the Seaview on the surface. I am with you about how realistic look of the Seaview on the surface. I always thought they did a great job with the 17' model. I have seen some photos of the 17 foot model with piping going down the sides of it. I think it would blow bubbles out to represent the foam that made up the wake. Whatever they did though worked real good. You diorama it great and I am sure will look great at Wonderfest.

    Great use of this kit.The two versions of the Seaview might be better referenced as the 8 window version which was used in the 1961 film and also the entire first season of the TV series,and the 4 window flying sub refit which was used in tv series season's 2 thru season 4. I notice also that when building the 4 window version most modelers omit the darker grey stripes on the sides of the deck and the smaller darker grey stripes on the sail mounted diving planes.

      @@InterstellarModeler Hey Oggie, since you're a bit of an Irwin Allen fan it might interest you to know the he used stock footage and a few new scenes of the Seaview and Flying Sub models in a movie from 1971 called City Beneath the Sea that started Stuart Whitman and Robert Wagner (Richard Baseheart makes a brief appearance as well). I'm pretty sure the Jupiter 2 model was also used. The movie was a pilot that never got picked up but still worth a watch if you ever come across it.

    Great build...I think they used some kind of detergent in the water to simulate the foam but I might be wrong, there's gotta be a "making of" video somewhere that shows that process...thanks for sharing!

    • @bobbova8708
      @bobbova8708 2 роки тому +1

      The 17 foot version of the Seaview had a tow rig which had detergent saturated water pumped through it and throughout the sub to simulated the foam wake.

    Great build Oggie. The water effects in particular turned out amazing and very realistic.
    I'd love to see you go into a bit more detail in a future video on the steps you take to print your own decals. We've all been burned when one of those waterslide decals tears up so having a backup solution is really useful.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Tony, yeah I'll keep that in mind. What made making decals easier for me is photoshop. Allows me to resize and manipulate things. My biggest trouble was printing. The ink wouldn't stay but the acrylic gloss coat was the key for sure.

    Who knows, maybe the TV models were filled with baking soda and vinegar to create the Seafoam look.
    Special effects were very imaginative back in those days.

  • @The_Jupiter2_Mission
    @The_Jupiter2_Mission 9 місяців тому +1

    The wave wake seen on screen when the model wades through the water was created by a rig underneath at the front that would blow out detergent bubbles in the water.
    They had to be creative back then than rely on CGI.

    The cotton looked great on TV, very realistic. It would be cool if you could add the flying sub flying along beside Seaview. Would this diarama fit inside the case your Battlestar launch tube is in? If so would make it easier to travel.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  2 роки тому +1
