No resin. No plaster. No silicone. This is the best ocean technique I've seen. So simple and with stunning results
Very nice job! Thanks for showing how you made the sea. Very clever!
my only critique would be that it lacks that translucent quality resin gives you - other than that, the rest of the effects like the waves and ripples are fantastic
@@misgoldman Yeah, but it looks perfect for Deep see....Maybe the Resin is only better if you want to do an ocean near the coast.
I agree!!
was watching the first part waiting for him to get out resin. crazy
Thanks to you I’ll be using this video as a guide for the 1/35 Border U-boat conning tower.
I was thinking the exact same thing, for the exact same reason!! Ordered my Conning Tower section today!!
holy crap - *THAT'S* impressive! i kept waiting for the part where he poured the epoxy...

The use of the foil is a cracking technique. Looks far more controllable than trying with a gel.
Thank you so much for showing me you're great artistry and model making I've been trying to figure out what to do because I broke 5 vertebrae in my neck and also my skull and some other things but now you have shown me a great tool of rehabilitation you don't know how much it means .For what I have seen it does remind me of my childhood when i used to make model Navy ships and also model aeroplanes I would hand make the engines write down to everything that I thought was necessary. But you have given me more information about true artistry. And now with this injury you have really reopened myself in my rehabilitation so I thank you for sharing and showing your art knowledge and what can be done. From the land down under Australia.
Hope you are doing better mate , how has the modelling come along?
…and the award for “Best WWII Diorama Done to Perfection, Water Category” goes to….
Unbelievable level of realism... you’re the best! I hope one day we can manage to bring you to Brasil for a scale a ton workshop! Have a nice weekend
WOW, when I first saw the completed picture I thought for sure it was resin or something poured in. Great technique. Looks awesome.
Thanks for this video. I showed it to my 67yo father who has been building models his entire life and doesn't use the internet. He loved this video and learned something from your techniques.
Tin foil and cotton. I would NEVER have guessed it.
@Michael Brown First part I was wondering why he was assembling such a simple model. Second part I was admiring his paint technique and wondering why it was being used on such a simple model. Third part blew me away. This guy is an artist of a very high order.
I liked the water from toilet paper technique better :p
@@KjetilBalstad :O From him? :O give me link!
@@Pufferzsola Not sure if Scale-a-ton did this, I do not think so, but several others have used tp, some with resin top, some without. Like this one ua-cam.com/video/2TwpB7sVMn8/v-deo.html only tp and glue, and this one ua-cam.com/video/W8YgGDG3ptQ/v-deo.html using a resin topping.

This guy is the Bob Ross of model-making.
We put a little happy wave here and a little water there😀
I’d say plasmo is bob ross of models and this guy too so I guess bob ross has an identical twin
Bob Ross is a loser
@@JonDonym367
and a little torpedoe there 🚢 😀
@@barfuss2007 buddy you can’t just say that round these parts
Completely ludicrous how this guy simply makes ultra realistic waves with a few tools!
He is a master of his craft!
That is just amazing. Years ago (35+) you could never find a sea scene that looked so realistic. Things have changed. This has a realism that you don’t sea (pardon the pun) often. Great build. And thank you for all the information. 👍👍🇨🇦
Every time I watch one of these videos they'll do some that makes me just go like "NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? YOU'VE RUINED IT!" Then ten seconds later they make it even better than it was to begin with.
No way! So cool! You should be awarded or something!!! DIY in absolute perfection!
I love the use of cotton wool for wave effects. The end result looks great. "Great tips"
That, my friend, is seriously impressing! You make it look so easy, but those waves look more than just random - you definitely have an eye for how water behaves and looks. Super!
that sea effect is superb..the best ive ever seen...ill be copying it on my model railway....ive been all over you tube looking and its just wonderful mate,,,
Amazed at how with the foil you was able to get the water to look so deep! Thanks a ton for sharing this, I have been struggling with this for a very long time. Time to try this technique myself...;)
What was the result of utilizing this technique?

When I saw the thumbnail and the picture at the start of the video I thought this was mostly going to be a resin video. I'm completely stunned, what an amazing technique and wonderful build
This is so beautiful, that I almost cried.
Congratulations on creating the most realistic ocean scene I've ever seen and thank you for sharing your clever technique and skills. In the 70's, I was an export manager at Humbrol, so I have seen many! Any suggestions for a 1:20 scale ocean would be appreciated.
never saw tinfoil coming... that and the x22 make the colours work on an insane level.. truly fantastic work! brilliant!
Thank you for sharing your technique. As a HO 1/87th model railroader my hat is off to you. I would class your work as museum quality. Keep up the great videos.
The effect of the water over the deck is great. Nicely done.
DAMN, that water looks cold! 🥶👍
i love it! By simply trimming the cotton wave the model look so much cleaner and realistic! Thanks for sharing definitely going to try it out
That is just fucken amazing. I built these kind of plastic models as a kid and used them as toys when they were done, resulting in snapped antennas and one bladed propellers etc. This is on another level, so to speak.
Amazing! I can sea the waves moving and the u-boat rising falling through them. Sure I can smell the sea as well!
Amazing, I love U-BOATS and seeing this one breaking the ocean surface is awesome
Outstanding.
The waves are so realistic.
It looks amazingly realistic! Great execution of water effects!
I'm so glad this showed up in my recommended feed! Absolutely beautiful work!
I totally thought that was resin when I saw the pic!
Fantastic tutorial mate, and the finished dio is simply stunning and very dynamic. I’ve just started building the AFV Club 1/350 Type XXI and was going to display it on the stand but you’ve now convinced me to try doing a sea base. Thank you
I really enjoyed watching an artist do his craft to perfection.Thank you !
Wow, one of the best water techniques I've seen done so far. I love the use of kitchen foil and cotton to get the build-up of waves. Very good tutorial my friend. Cheers!
Мужик, ты мега крут! просто шедевр, натурально как брызги сделал!
Outstanding. You can feel the pounding of the waves. Thank you for sharing this.
Stunning. Thank you so very much. Very nice to see this done without resin, just hard work and a keen eye.
Amazing to see what human hands can do with the good brain to control it... it’s simply beautiful man, what a job 👏
Absolutely the best WATER diorama effects I've seen. You are a master my good man! Kudos!
正に鉄の鯨だ、生命の息吹すら感じる。本当に素晴らしい❗️
Amazing effects! The water doesn't only look wet, it appears to be transparent. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
WoW ! I’m speechless. I thought ,from the thumbnail, you would use resin but no ! Just aluminum foil and white glue! Very impressive!
Cheers from Québec
Stunning!!! I used to work at the shipyard where the LCS are built, and Trumpeter put out the kit, I bought it 2 years ago but I want to put in ocean, now I can, without using resin. Thank you, your work is awesome!!!
I really have to try that method my friend! Amazing work! Kudos!
This is a fantastic diorama, the waves look gorgeous!
That is awesome looking with just tin foil, glue, cotton and paint, WOW !!!
Amazing work. Have never seen anyone supply this high a level of paint/spray info nor use cotton for waves before. Incredibly impressive job.
Fantastic! What a great effect, and you've done it convincingly. Thanks for sharing your methods and technique!
Speechless! Best U-boat diorama I have seen!
Stunning. Breathtaking. A work of art.
I've instantly felt an Atlantic, windy cold.
Since I live near the Carnegie Science Center, my personal submarine is the USS Requin. I've been inside it, and have seen the torpedo bay, and stood next to the recon post. Even though I don't know or care much about submarines, the Requin has a special place in my heart.
Such simple yet effective techniques.....great job!!
Simply amazing, love your water technique
Looks great! A couple of look outs on the bridge and it's perfect!
Wow Fantastic 👏
Excellent water & wave spray effect; probably the best I have yet seen.
More then perfect - no other words for this realistic work.....
Thanks very much for that awesome tutorial! I happened to have a AFV Club 1/350 Type XXI in the stash so decided I would give it a go. I’m very happy with the result but learnt that it’s a challenge to avoid air pockets under the foil and also found that strands of cotton wool get everywhere. Thanks once again and keep the fantastic videos coming.
Amazing work that actually looks like moving sea water over a fast moving u-boat. Excellent video!!!
A really great tutorial mate, and a big help for me, i never try to make a sea Diorama coz i was afraid to make it wrong, but now i know how, thank you
Absolutely beautiful!
Foil? WOW!
Never would have figured that out. Beautiful work as always.
You are a real artist! Absolutely incredible work!
This is the first video I've seen you do and this was great! The diorama looks great and I love how not only did you show your techniques but you also showed in the corners of the video what products you were using!
that looks fantastic. great work!
I just bought a 1/350 scale U-Boat made by Revell and I'm going to try to make a diorama like this guy did. The way he made the water is ingenious and yet so simple.
Wow! Thank you so much for making this video. The steps are very clearly explained and I really appreciate you posting the material used and how it was mixed. I am totally going to be trying this! Thank you!!
Thanks! This is the easiest and best looking way to do "high seas" effects in my opinion and I appreciate the refresher. I'm planning a USS Constitution build next year, and I want to put her out to sea under full sail. I've bookmarked this video for reference later.
What a brilliant idea of making this diorama so lifely!
Incredible! Looks so realistic. Simple tools, but a lot of skill!
Wonderful work!
Was anticipating when the epoxy would be poured but I’ve never been more shocked 😮 that’s a crazy technique that I don’t think many would have thought of, definitely a different approach but great results regardless 👍🏻👍🏻
Great technique. Awesome video.
Beautifully done. thank you for sharing this. I can't wait to try out your technique.
Incroyable le détail !!! Bravo !!!
Brilliant end product. Well done.
Looks great. Nice job.
amazing watereffect, looks real !
Absolutely awesome result.
You had me at the application of rust, straight off the airbrush needle - the translucency that 'appears' to be in the water left me stunned! I've been saying all along that that resin stuff is just too expensive....
Excellent video. Thanks for the tips. Cheers!
Oh my god, this is just the video i needed! Bulding the Trumpeter 1/350 HMS monmouth and was wondering how to do a nice sea base!
That looks absolutely amazing. I will try it for sure. I have been wanting to do a float plane taking off from water and this technique looks like it will work perfectly. Thanks for making the video.
Great video. I must try this techniques. Thanks for sharing.
I would never have thought the sea was anything else but poured, coloured, acrylic resin- let alone tin foil ! How in hell's name did you come up with the idea to do that ? It's brilliant !
As for the flowing sea over the boughs of the submarine man, that looks flippin awesome ! I learn so, so much whenever I watch your videos, things I would never have thought to do in a million years of modeling, yet I watch your videos and you make everything look so easy and simple. What more secrets will we have to prise from that plastic sprue encased brain of yours ?
Breathtaking! Well done.
Brilliant! You have solved many macro photography issues for me - keep up the great work!
Thanks for sharing this wonderfull technique!
very nice work looks fantastic.!
Totaly stunned really nice done
Just plain.... FANTASTIC!!!!!
I wish I could "like" this video as many times as I watched it. Great inspiration! I am preparing my u-boat based on this! Thank you.
You are the man. Thanks.
Absolutely amazing job!
Incredible! Very awesome!
Excellent modelling!
