This is BEAUTIFUL!! This water effect is so much simpler than other methods (pouring layers of resin for example) yet produces the same realistic, dramatic results!! Absolutely awesome!!
That water looks so real I want to touch it. I would sure like a to see a lesson on how to make the waves' texture. The painting I think I understand but building it up physically and making natural looking shapes I don't understand as well as I would like. Please make more videos! :-)
Absolutely wonderful. I have virtually finished building Revell HMS Hood as a Christmas present for my father. He originally built it in his teens but I accidentally broke it when I was in my teens - never forgiven myself. I love the detail on the ocean but this is a little bit beyond me. It's all practice. If you're a ship builder your first few might not be great, but your 10th one will be better than your first, and your 100th will be better than you 50th... :)
The model and the colour of the see look rather stunning. But the waves around the hull and in the wake are not realistic. In the wake there should be a V pattern of transversal and longitudinal waves. The should have an opening angle of 39°(Kelvin Angle) The waves pattern around the hull would change according to speed, but there is definitely a wave crest missing at the bow. The sea in general is very nice. I like this model alot.
Beautiful work, however, I’d recommend studying the math behind a Kelvin wake and wave form. Typically flow out and away from the hull at about 22 degrees, not tucking in behind or radiating out laterally The bow is fine. But about halfway astern, the wave looks like it’s generated from sideways hull movements rather than simply passing through the water.

I'm going to try it out!!! I only found two (2) of those colors & the 'Still Water' on my on-line HS. Looks like I might have to go shopping @ my LHS!!! It seems SO Much easier than using/pouring All That VARNISH on other builds.... using styrofoam might do the work! AND just a Little bit of T.P. instead of layer-upon-layer that I have seen on other tutorials ( maybe for more inland/beach diorama ). Building a 1/700 USS GALVESTON CLG-3..... I'll re-post, with a link, if the results look good with diorama and ship!!!
Very nice, however as a beginner I am at the blind side how you shaped the waves on foam, you should add small text for it as well. At least the info about the tool u used for shaping the foam.
There are a few ways. I thought this vid would show at least one. But anyway you can carve with a long blade knife. You can use on of those "hot wire" tools, or one where you really need to be careful and think about ventilation is to use a plumbing torch. Heating the foam will make it melt and shrink, essentially making it disappear. You can create waves and troughs with it. But be careful! HTH
Hi can you advice what type of solvent you used to wash away the still water from the brushes please? I tried water the 1st time and it became a clump at the bristles. Then I tried using tinner it became sticky and some did wash off but the rest became 1 sticky mess. Thanks

Not sure about only using the brush, i sapose it would be down to your own skill. but the scale i would say would have to be either 1/600 or 1/700. This is the normal scale for naval models

what is separation foam ? ur shopping list implies styro foam, but the separation foam doesn't look like it..

I had some problems , if your diorama is too long ,The foam base will warp due to the deformation of dry watercolor paper.
