- There is a lot of misinformation floating around and we are here to provide you with ACCURATE details. Thanks for watching and please give us a call if we can help!
Excellent explanation. Thank you to taking the time to make this video.
Thank you!
Please update this video with the changes in voting and hunting rights. Looks like SD is becoming very unfriendly to full time RVers.
Hello. I called around a bit. Apparently you need to reside more than 30 days each year to vote locally for state elections (passed in July 2023) but federal election not effected.
Oh no, you take the tax breaks SD offers but refuse to own property here. Reee. Fucking boomers.
Thanks for keeping us informed! As a public-school teacher-retiree, I wonder if I get a W-2 and am a W-2 employee. Laura Sweeney
You would need to look at how your income is being reported as a retiree.
@@southdakotaresidencycenter8015 I will check. Thanks!
@@southdakotaresidencycenter8015 I have a 1099 teacher retiree form, not a W-2.
I’m a over the road trucker and I have my own mc and dot and I’m thinking of getting a South Dakota residency because the insurance rates are better for me there. My taxes are down through a 1099 as I am an owner op so there shouldn’t be issues there. But when I saw the form for the irp/ifta account they say you cannot use the same address as the one on your ID for the application, so I will need to pay for two separate addresses? Have you guys ever dealt with this?
What about if you earn dividends?
Does anyone know if they will send your car registration renewal plates and tags to another out of state address if your a resident in SD but work out of state seasonally and your tags are due?
You can renew/pay your yearly vehicle registration on-line and they will mail you a new colored square registration decal that gets affixed to the top right of your existing SD license plate. For first time SD metal plates...you need to physically go into the Dept of Revenue (I did it in Box Elder) and pay vehicle taxes, show your title, DL etc. and they will hand you the plates.
If I am an American citizen working abroad (living abroad) for a European company, with headquarters there and being paid in euros, are there any issues with me getting residency in SD? There would be no issues correct? No state income tax or difficulty remaining a resident if I stay for 24 hours? (Or is it 30 days?)
What if you work out of country?
You would need to check in with the HR Department of your company and ask how the payroll is handled tax-wise with the state you are currently a resident of.
What if you’re retired?
They you don't have payroll taxes and are not affected.
I wonder how does this impact collecting unemployment?
If you are trying to collect unemployment, you would need to contact the South Dakota Department of Labor.
Need yo speak up, can't hear you.
Thank you for letting me know that the volume is not good on this. We will make it better next time.
@@southdakotaresidencycenter8015 It was fine. Very helpful video. Thanks.
I didn't understand this at all. I don't understand how, or even if, it applies to me. I was directed here by another video that was about domicile and taxes. They said it was important. If it is, I don't know why it is important. I don't work as a W-2 employee for any company, any where. So why was I told that I needed this information? DO I need it? It sounds to me like the State of South Dakota has identified a deficiency with their tax laws and, instead of fixing their own laws, are forcing residents that travel and/or the companies they work for, to jump through a bunch of unnecessary hoops. That doesn't make any damn sense.
If you are not a W2 employee, then I am not sure why you were directed to watch the video. If you do not receive a W2 as a remote worker or full-time traveler, then you do not need to be concerned with this information.
@@southdakotaresidencycenter8015 That's what I thought! Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate it.
Why would you do that? you will loose millions of dollars in renvenues
