  • Ross and Kathy Callaghan's video log of their cruise around New Zealand on the 'Ovation of the Seas'. The Ovation is the largest ship cruising around NZ and Australia. The video gives a full ship tour showing the unique activities on offer, plus food options, music and a tour of an inside cabin with a 'virtual balcony. This is followed by a detailed look around each of the ports visited: Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Dusky Sound, Dunedin, Wellington, Napier and Picton. Perfect weather and the incredible New Zealand scenery made this a truly wonderful cruise experience.

    Well guys,as usual your video did not disappoint.! What an amazing cruise and ship. I wonder just how the Ovation would handle tender ports as I note all of your ports of call were berthed.I was amazed at what I saw of this ship.I saw her berthed in Sydney around 6 months ago,she is huge.Ross,you did very well with the New Zealand National Anthem on the Piano at Wellington,when I visited Wellington on the Sun Princess a couple of years ago I went wandering and got lost lol ,but a friendly local got me back on track.Kath as always you are a hoot and certainly know how to enjoy yourself.I think the virtual balconies are fabulous on that ship and the thing that gives you a view from high above just out of this world.Thanks again folks,I never tire of your videos

    Hi
    I just want to say that I love watching all your videos, especially this one on the Ovation of the Seas cruising to NZ. We have booked a cruise on the same ship in Feb 2021 going to NZ. Watching your video has given me so many places to see.
    Can I ask do you just go about sight seeing on your own or do you organise a shore excursion? I know you are from NZ so you know the place like the back of your hand. I’m so excited about seeing all the beautiful places NZ has to offer. Keep up the good work on your vlogs. Thank you 🙂

    • @calros3
      @calros3  4 роки тому +3

      Hi and thanks for the lovely comments on our videos.
      We always research beforehand to see if there are local shore excursions available as these tend to be similar to ones offered on the ship, but much cheaper. For New Zealand we recommend the following for shore excursions:
      Bay of Islands: Visit the Waitangi Treaty House (a short walk from the pier), then take a free bus to Paihia.
      Tauranga: Walk around the Mount, or take a local excursion to Rotorua, if you haven't experienced thermal activity before.
      Napier: Walk around the town if it is Art Deco weekend. If not take a local tour from the ones offered where the shuttle stops in town. A visit to Te Mata peak is worthwhile.
      Wellington. Do the Cable Car upwards (early before the crowds) then explore the Botanic gardens, before walking down to the amazing waterfront. Allow time to explore Te Papa and don't miss the incredible Gallipoli exhibition.
      Picton: Wander around the pretty township.
      Akaroa. Walk up to the Giants garden and wander around the beautiful township.
      Dunedin. Take a city tour from the keyosk on the pier.
      The Sounds. Enjoy!!!
      Hope this helps, and that you have a great cruise around beautiful New Zealand.

    It was February this year. I would definitely fly over from NZ the day before and spend a night in Sydney before the cruise. Too risky for missing the ship going the same day. Coming back to NZ the same day is fine as the ship gets in at 7am and the flights over the Tasman are in the evening
    We had time for a Sydney harbour cruise (take your bags with you) before catching the train out to the airport.

    OK, let's be honest. This was one of the best cruise videos I've ever watch. The optimal human attention span is about 17 - 18 minutes; your video was just over 46 minutes and at no point did you loose my interest. I love history, so the fact that you didn't just talk about the ship and destinations, but also the history and stories behind them made this even more interesting. This video was simply awesome and I enjoyed every minute of it. I sail on Ovation next year for an Alaskan Cruise, but now you have me thinking that I need to add New Zealand to my future list. You ship be a tour guide for Wellington :-) Thank you for sharing

    Beautiful and informative video of your cruise. The Tasman Sea seems quite calm. Which month were you there? I am going for a cruise to New Zealand in early November. My only concern is the rough Tasman Sea.

  • @LWJCarroll

    Hi, thanks for the video...I was wondering which month this was ? Also for flying over to Sydney..did you stay a night at each end or arrive/depart on the same day? That would save on overall costs for doing this trip...Regards Laurie Tokoroa New Zealand ..btw we used to live in Stokes Valley then many years in Auckland...

    I don't think it matters whether you are port or starboard for a NZ cruise. The itinerary means you would see about equal from either side.

    Enjoyed your video. We are leaving from Toronto, Can. to fly to Sydney and do an 18 day crossing on the Ovation. I was wondering when your room number was, as we have a stateroom on deck 3 and were a little concerned about smoke from the casino and noise from the Music Hall. Do you have any comments regarding this? Thank you

    • @calros3
      @calros3  4 роки тому

      We were right down the back. 8313. We always check what is above and below us on the deck plan before confirming the room. I don't remember smoking being allowed in the casino but the Music Hall can get very noisy. Enjoy your cruise.

    That band singing the Stevie Wonder song was very lacklustre and amateurish. I've seen better karaoke singers. I'd be happy just sitting on deck watching the ocean. I wouldn't want my cruise to be anything like life home in suburbia - no shopping or media or music or noise.....just me and my book in view of the water.
