@Risingofthephoenix. This song is not actually about Tony. It's about another ex, in another band. But regardless, Gwen DID struggle with this song. Even now, she says she can't bear to hear it, as it's still too distressing to think about the emotions she was going through (during that break-up). So she was very strong, to record this song and make the video. And it's the same for the songs that actually WERE about Tony. She says she really DID struggle. Sure, you can be friends with an ex. It took her years to come to terms with. She'd made her whole life and identity about him. And in 'Don't Speak', they'd only just split up. That caused such turbulence, the band had nearly broken up the previous day (before the video shoot). There was also tension between other band members and Gwen (contributing to the band nearly breaking up), because other band members were jealous of the attention the media gave Gwen. Yet they did a video depicting all that, i.e. the break-up between Tony and Gwen; how other band members isolated her, out of jealousy - so she couldn't rely on them for emotional support, either, etc. And they did it, whilst it was all something very current that was happening. So absolutely it was full of turmoil, to sing and film 'Don't Speak' - and a similar turmoil, for her to perform other songs about break-ups. Creativity is often fuelled by intense distress, and absolutely she felt that distress whilst performing these songs. It must have been very difficult, to see Tony and perform with him, so regularly.

I can't believe I forgot about this song! I don't think I had heard it since it was fresh during my college days. This was originally supposed to be a ballad, but making this more of an uptempo number was the right call.
Wrong. "Everything In Time" was their last good album. Full of B-Sides and Rarities but a cohesive album at the same level than their pre Rock Steady albums. "Push and Shove" would have been at the same level if it weren't so overproduced. Has hidden gems tho like P&S, Undercover, Looking Hot (short version) and Undone.
Is this a punk band that makes pop or the other way around? Because this is what pop music should sound like. Gwen's vocals seriously complement the song too.
Sadly this song came to fruition 15 years after its release. Gwen's greatest desire in life has always been to be a wife, mother, and to grow old with the supposed love of her life. Too bad Mr. Gavin Rossdale never grew up. Either way, she'll find someone who truly appreciates her for who she is: a decent, genuine, and wonderful human being. Keep smiling and singing, Gwen...you make the world a better place!

Her voice isn’t her strong suit. She’s a good front woman who knows how to look good and entertain the audience.
Ok Miranda fan that is on every Gwen video trying to diss her.
@@terri4049I like 2 songs from Miranda. That 1 song still amuses me. I know absolutely nothing about Blake's music tho
I MISS THIS COOL BAND WITH THEIR GROOVY SONGS
Still awesome... I miss this kinda No Doubt music..
Me too, Fafa, me too.
Can't even tell you how many times I played this when it came out. The whole album was amazing
She had the drop on us with makeup/hair in the nineties/aughts.
Facts! Love her! ❤️
Anything Hype Williams makes is a masterpiece
The talent is beyond outerspace here!Someone posted that you can’t just listen to one song... and thats what happened to me. Not particularly do I gravitate towards the talents if female front women, but EGAD!!! That voice! The quirkiness! 👊
Must be awkward to sing all these songs about your ex’s when one of your ex’s is also your bandmate 🤣
I can't believe I forgot about this song! I don't think I had heard it since it was fresh during my college days. This was originally supposed to be a ballad, but making this more of an uptempo number was the right call.
It makes me upset that people don't know Gwen Stefani was in this band. Happy 50th birthday gwen 😊 🎂
Screw them they're stupid.
Then clearly they dont know her period...
Well if you weren't a teen in the 90s how would you know? Use common sense ma..
Pretty sure that's a pretty small fraction of those who know about no doubt... Not like media would let the fact slide...
Sweetie, they know her because she was in this band....
i keep coming back to this songs at different points in my life
I loved her hair like this.
Return of Saturn: Their last good album.
Ughhhhh this is true whether I agree or not
@@willgregg1076 I can always count on a fellow enjoyer of metal to agree with me on this statement.
Wrong. "Everything In Time" was their last good album. Full of B-Sides and Rarities but a cohesive album at the same level than their pre Rock Steady albums. "Push and Shove" would have been at the same level if it weren't so overproduced. Has hidden gems tho like P&S, Undercover, Looking Hot (short version) and Undone.
adrians hair syles were always kinda mad but the leopard dots are another level of crazy.
Dope ass song and video. I can see where some of these new female rappers got their style from. 😯
gawd i love her energy and presence, amazing!
Best album ever!!!
I love this very music video by No Doubt. Pumping yet heartfelt. Riotous yet sombre.
Ahhh the days of the pencil thin eyebrows lol
I wish that they'd come back in style, mine sure as hell are never growing back 😂
I have no damn eyebrows at 43 because of this shit! 😂
@@tretre3892 Same at 34 🙋🏻♀️😂
I LOVE THE PINK HAIR
Is this a punk band that makes pop or the other way around? Because this is what pop music should sound like. Gwen's vocals seriously complement the song too.
Their sound most likely to be SKA punk, indie alternative
This is way far from pop music
It's pop punk because punk rock is NOT listenable. This has punk freneticism and rhythm but with a harmonic variety.
Happy 20th birthday, Return of Saturn 💖
I met Gwen back in the early 90s...such a sweetheart and very pretty :-) This song has been in my head the last few days.Always loved it.
Even in 2021 her makeup is the shit!!!!!! Love you Gwen and this is my favorite No Doubt song.
Hell yeah!!
The bathroom scene was inspired by the 1998 anime „Kite“.
Copied I'd say but it's cool to see a reference like that in here no doubt about it 😉
🎶 "We keep repeating mistakes for souvenirs.... and we've been in-between the days for years!" 🎶
HERE FOR THE REMASTERED VERSION 😍😍😍
Sadly this song came to fruition 15 years after its release. Gwen's greatest desire in life has always been to be a wife, mother, and to grow old with the supposed love of her life. Too bad Mr. Gavin Rossdale never grew up. Either way, she'll find someone who truly appreciates her for who she is: a decent, genuine, and wonderful human being. Keep smiling and singing, Gwen...you make the world a better place!
***** hahaha!! good point
+SQP85 Nah, I just have the power of observation; basic critical thinking skills which are encouraged in a free thinking society. Sorry my opinion moved your brooding slumber to comment about such a trivial matter. When cloaked in darkness it's best to keep your steel handy and your instincts sharp. Those Death Lord Draugrs are a bitch.
Tony Kanal!! that's a fairytale right there.
+Xavier Keough Might serve you better to apply those thinking skills to something productive, and not page 6 celebrity gossip
This is the last place I'd expect to see a Skyrim reference.
Never watched the video in full before. It reminds me a lot of the anime Kite.
You're right on. It was inspired by it actually.
This never gets old!
This song goes HARD !
I love how she is different and true to herself
man i just opend a old cd player from my mother... this was her last cd she listened too :(((
