My way of avoiding metoprolol side effects was to get off of it as well as my other 3 long term BP meds after going on a keto diet and losing 50 pounds including my belly fat.
When I had my yearly physical in January my doctor told me that I'm a pharmaceutical company's worst nightmare because at age 68 I'm no longer on any meds at all.

Way to go. Stay away from all blood pressure medications. I heard (please verify independently) that some BP medications use the same receptors used by Covid-19 virus. That is why high BP increases Covid-19 complications. Not because of BP itself, but because of its medications. Make careful transitions to natural ways with diet and exercise under medical supervision because quitting these drugs suddenly can be dangerous.

@listening4lessons I had no fear about cholesterol since mine was good overall. The most important predictor of heart health is the triglyceride/hdl ratio and it should be 2 or less. My triglycerides, which had not been high, dropped to 56 and my hdl, which was borderline ok at 41 rose to 76. Therefore my ratio is .74 which is very good. My ldl did rise from 108 to 131 which is just borderline high, but keto is not concerned with ldl and neither was my doctor. Clearly, since I lost 40 pounds on a high fat diet, eating high fat does not cause you to gain weight--high carb consumption does that.

I'm 68 also and have recently been on a number of meds including metoprolol. I do not trust my cardiologist because I do not know enough to know if he sees me as a cash cow to perform a lot of un-necessary treatments on or if he is on the up and up. Thing is I don't believe I ever had high blood pressure.

You are a rare physician who addresses harmful side effects of medications. Usually they focus only on what they can help. Important to weigh benefits to risks and to suggest natural alternatives before medicating.

I'm certain GP s have no idea about the side effects of the drugs they give out. I told mine that each time they add to my list🤯 I actually feel worse than I did without it. Always get the same answer " Ah, yes but it helps you avoid illness" 🤔 once they give you a tablet your on it for LIFE. If taking something for years , and years, and you are just the same ,surely it shows they aren't working.???

@Tiguar Jagger Sorry but the last time I excercized was 1957. As far as diet I ignore the low fat high carb nonsense and cholesterol is helpful not harmful. Keep taking the BP stuff like I have and take any advice with a grain of salt. Salt is absolutely required for the body to function without it you die. I do as much keto diet as I can stomach in order to keep the Blood Sugar under control. Keep praying and outlive all your sick relatives, mine all died before they could draw Social Security, I have been drawing mine for 19 years.

I was put on this after being diagnosed with a slight arrhythmia, the side effects I suffered were, a constant headache, watery eyes, runny nose, swollen ankles, aching joints, and struggled to walk up the hill on the street I lived
on, and a feeling of the plug had been pulled from my battery. I had an appointment with a specialist and described the symptoms that I was experiencing and was told that the med was not for me and should stop taking it. I was later informed that i had been over diagnosed.

Metoprolol gave me auditory and visual hallucinations. I was given an overdose in the ER because they couldnt get my B/P down. I missed 4 days. I came to in the State Hospital. I remember it reminded how I felt and acted of an Alzheimers patient. It took 18 months to figure out what was causing me those halucinations. I finally figured it out for myself, and I took myself off those beta blockers. and my physician told me to be very quiet and calm and no hard physical activity for a week so as not to excite my heart into another attack. I will never take another beta blocker, never

At this time my problems are cut 50% by reducing dosage. We'll see. MRI etc dementia blah blah... problem must be anything BUT this drug says Dr. Now taking matters in to my own hand, Theanine, magnesium; vit D- things like that.

It still might be your thyroid. Did you know that an iodine deficiency can mimic HBP by making your heart beat faster? I didn't. Look it up yourself and get a clean iodine supplement. You might want to take it for a couple of weeks and go get your thyroid functions checked, and revisit your BP status. You might be surprised.

Heart disease is sooooo difficult and frightening. Changes in mental status due to medication side affects. Change in physicality and just overall huge adjustments. Very difficult. Thank you so much!!! I never connected my symptoms (severe pvd, low extremity pain, leg pain and hair loss) to this meds till now. I have taken metoprol almost 5 years for fast heart beats and chest pain. My heart beats and chest pain got better but I have suffered these side effects almost a year. I asked about side effects but the GP dismissed my concern. I also ran so many tests, saw specialists including a vascular doctor, rheumatologist, neurologist, and spent a lot of money trying to find causes but no one could tell me why I do have these symptoms. Thanks again!!!!

Did you know that an IODINE DEFICIENCY can cause high blood pressure due to rapid heart beat? I didn't. They were using beta blockers on me that only lowered my BP an insignificant amount. I GOT AN IODINE SUPPLEMENT WHICH CALMED MY THYROID ISSUE and my heart rate AND BP returned to satisfactory levels. I had a THYROID problem, not a BP problem...they were treating the wrong damn thing.

I am not happy about this because I have changed my diet and I am exercising every day. I think this medicine has some positive effects and I have not had any other bad side effects. Informative Video, Thank you! Has anyone experienced bluish/purplish hands and feet especially whenever you're in large rooms and hallways with temperatures normally around 65 degrees (Not freezing, just chilly). For me, it starts about half way down around the forearms then a dark shade of blue or purple in the hands and fingers. If you press down on the skin, it immediately turns white, then back to the darker shade. I work in a county prison that doesn't ever seem to warm up and I thought I heard that Metoprolol can cause this in skin when chilled. I use the Tartrate (twice daily) for previous artery blockages which caused the need for a quadruple bypass 14 years ago and fine since using Vytorin for Cholestrol. Thank you!

I've been on Metoprolol tartrate for 21 years. My current VA doctor cut my dosage by half without asking, then she let my prescription lapse, no refills available. The VA has left me without meds many times over the years. It affects my health negatively. Right now, I have been out of another med I have to take daily, for 3 weeks. I have called and asked for new script/refills 3 times. They said she can't write any of my meds till she sees me in office. Yet, it can be weeks or months before you get an appointment. Over the years with the VA, they have left me in a position of not having the meds I need every day, causing my health to be bad.
