This Brandi Carlile is one of the most talented artists of our time. If the time comes, I bet she'd be the one whose music would make the devil take a break to listen to her message. She speaks for so many of us, and it's in such an amazing way. Give this woman a Grammy.
hi from Spain. This is one of the most powerful songs I've ever listened to. It's given me goosebumps. I've recently discovered this artist, but I think she's excatly the type of artist milliions of people were waiting for: sensitive and powerful at the same time. Thanks for existing Brandi Carlile.
I come here periodically to remind myself of that day and what it represents. Thank you, Brandi, the twins, et al for lending your support and your voices to our children here in Seattle and beyond. I cry every damn time. 🙌 positively chilling
Amazing. The young boy with the sign that read "Be Careful with Guns" summed it all up. And Dave Matthews at minute 4.0 was pretty cool too. Brandi is pure brilliance!
Brandi's songs often carry a massive charge of feelings, the mother or this outstanding hold out your hand transmit the power and the strength of all those who are convinced about their ideas and values. Thank you so much Brandi and carry on!!!
Brandi Carlile: I just love your music, voice, and storytelling. Arethra Franklin is my favorite female singer of all time, but you are a very, very close second! Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent.
Such a powerful video to release on National Gun Violence Awareness Day. So proud to call myself a long-time fan of yours, this new album and the messages you've embedded within it have been inspiring me to have hope for a better tomorrow
Poweful? Yeah if you're dedicated to preaching about non existent oppression so you can inflat your arrogant egos then get pats on the back for making not one jot of difference. Meanwhile, in Iran and other countries? Protesting for or against ANYTHING for ANY reason is why you get shot. Oh look! Another woman shot dead in broad day light and it's posted online. Wow they marched about a bit? Right that's going to stop someone loading up a gun to take away a life. That's going to stop the next loon taking out their person anger out on people who never did them wrong? That's going to stop a woman demanding her right to show her face and be invisible behind cloth just because of some fictional God? Live in the real world. It means NOTHING.
Love her music.!!!! I think her songs are something all of us can relate to and what we go through in this life with people struggles, love sadness, and prejudice. Music that you not is all..
[Verse 1] I run a lot of miles of life and crime And mountain climbs and quittin' times Packing that load of lyin' rhymes And tired jokes and wooden dimes I've been everybody's friend, everybody's friend [Verse 2] I could lose my house, I could steal a car I could serve two masters, living hard Living like a dog in a cage in a yard With a fist full of cold hard cash that I can't let go The devil can't have my soul, the devil can't get your soul The devil can't get your soul [Chorus] Hold out your hand Take hold of mine and then Round and round we go Don't you wanna dance I'm a dying man From the moment we began Hold out your hand Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da [Verse 3] When the man comes around and the trumpet sounds And his number calls and the moment he falls In the haunted halls of man he will understand He will comprehend, he will not pretend He will not pretend [Verse 4] When the rain don't fall and the river don't run And the wind takes orders from the blazing sun The devil don't break for the fiery snake And you've had about as goddamn much as you can take The devil don't take a break, the devil don't take a break The devil don't take no break [Chorus] Hold out your hand Take hold of mine and then Round and round we go Don't you wanna dance I'm a dying man From the moment we began Hold out your hand Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da [Bridge] Well he came to my door to sell me the fear With some cameras and bullets and tension and Here is a license for killing your own native son For a careless mistake and a fake plastic gun? (Come on!) Deliver your brother from violence and greed For the mountains, lay down for your faith like a seed A morning is coming of silver and light There will be color and language and nobody wanting to fight What a glorious sight! What a glorious sight! Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da [Chorus] Hold out your hand (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) Take hold of mine and then (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) Round and round we go (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) Don't you wanna dance (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) I'm a dying man (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) From the moment we began (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) Hold out your hand (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da) Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
I have just discovered you with beautiful noise. I'm so emotionally moved by your entire being. Your song writing abilities are so powerful as well as your voice behind it. Music makes me so emotional always and I feel yours when you sing and it makes me tearful everytime
Gotta thank that tiny desk series for introducing me to this amazing artist --- everything keeps getting better the more I check out.... this might be the most powerful one yet and coming from Brandi that's a huge compliment cause she has many powerful messages in her lyrics.... I'm a late bloomer, but a huge fan... keep them coming Brandi - you are amazing!!!
G'day Brandi from me here in Australia. I have to say after listening to you sing with that powerful and yet beautiful voice of you now have another admiring fan :-)
God such a cryptic song with an even more ambiguous video, I wonder what she’s trying to tell us, and I thought decoding Leonard Cohen was tough she truly puts the b in subtle
What's up Dave! I see you! (4:01). Thank you for being such an inspiration and feeding my obsession for music over the years. And most importantly, thank you for introducing me to Brandi, my newest and greatest obsession! Anyone who hasn't seen her perform live does not know what they are missing! - just once, just once, Dave, maybe you'll show up to her concert for an "impromptu" Spoon!
no, it doesn't, the video and the song contradict each other rather explicitly... the song is about the cops shooting the people, the video is about taking our guns so we can't defend ourselves...
Truly amazing song and a beautiful video period a very powerful message indeed. Sad to say I think that America will move on soon from this very important message to the next one. I am a retired veteran, having been involved in most of the actions since George Bush Senior, and it is my opinion based upon experience that between the current Administration and the media we are all dancing along to their tune. Where is the me-too movement now? So if you big wigs took a fall, so what? Did it solve anything? Not quick enough, and now we move on to the next big thing. We are being overwhelmed and overrun by "issues" and are thus being desensitized to all of them. Me, a retired veteran and firm believer in the right to bear arms, I believe that we should limit those arms that are available to the General Public. Will that solve anything? Sadly, no it will not. But I will hold out my hand with you.
Amazing video with such an awesome video. As much as I loved the song listening to it on the record, I love it even more today. Thank you Brandi and the band!
Since we're being honest here I should confess I wasn't so sure about it myself my first thoughts were oh no but since then I've listened to it a few times. I still have some other favorites over this but still it's a good one because Brandi and the Hanseroth twins don't know bad!

Way to go Brandi!!!
I’m a big fan of this young lady
Beautiful and shared
I run a lot of miles of life and crime
Of mountain climbs and quittin' times
Packing that load of lyin' rhymes
And tired jokes and wooden dimes
I've been everybody's friend, everybody's friend
I could lose my house, I could steal a car
I could serve two masters, living hard
Living like a dog in a cage in the hole
With a fist full of cold hard cash and I can't let go
The devil can't have my soul, the devil can't get your soul
The devil can't get your soul
Hold out your hand
Take hold of mine now
Round and round we go
Don't you wanna dance
I'm a dying man
From the moment we began
Hold out your hand
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
The hand comes around and the trumpet sounds
And his number calls and the moment he falls
And the haunted halls of man he will understand
He will comprehend, he will not pretend
He will not pretend
When the rain don't fall and the river don't run
And the wind takes orders from the blazing sun
The devil don't break with a fiery snake
And you handled about goddamn much as you can take
The devil don't take a break, the devil don't take a break
The devil don't take no break
Hold out your hand
Take hold of mine now
Round and round we go
Don't you wanna dance
I'm a dying man
From the moment we began
Hold out your hand
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Well it came to my door, there's so many feuds
Of games and bullets and tensions to heal
A lust for killing, your old man and son
For a careless mistake and a fight lost to God!
(Come on!)
To leave your brother for father's grief
For the mountains, lay down, or you'll faint like a sea
When all is covered silver and light
Any color and light but you know you wanna fight!
What a glorious sight!
What a glorious sight!
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Hold out your hand (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
Take hold of mine now (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
Round and round we go (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
Don't you wanna dance (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
I'm a dying man (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
From the moment we began (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
Hold out your hand (ba da da, ba da da, ba da da)
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
Ba da da, ba da da, ba da da
your lyrics are off the mark in many spots but one for sure is "for a careless mistake and FAKE PLASTIC GUN"
thumbs down for lyric fail!!!
