Lyrics:
You're feeling nervous, aren't you, boy?
With your quiet voice and impeccable style
Don't ever let them steal your joy
And your gentle ways
To keep 'em from running wild
They can kick dirt in your face
Dress you down, and tell you that your place
Is in the middle, when they hate the way you shine
I see you tugging on your shirt
Trying to hide inside of it
And hide how much it hurts
Let 'em laugh while they can
Let 'em spin, let 'em scatter in the wind
I have been to the movies, I've seen how it ends
And the joke's on them
You get discouraged, don't you, girl?
It's your brother's world for a while longer
We gotta dance with the devil on a river
To beat the stream
Call it living the dream, call it kicking the ladder
They come to kick dirt in your face
To call you weak and then displace you
After carrying your baby on your back across the desert
I saw your eyes behind your hair
And you're looking tired, but you don't look scared
Let 'em laugh while they can
Let 'em spin, let 'em scatter in the wind
I have been to the movies, I've seen how it ends
And the joke's on them
Let 'em laugh while they can
Let 'em spin, let 'em scatter in the wind
I have been to the movies, I've seen how it ends
And the joke's on them
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Joe Bell Trailer song
Joe Bell movie song
It’s 1:30am in Texas right now. I’m laying on the couch in tears feeling like a failure as mother. My precious son is 9. He’s autistic and he’s perfect in my eyes. He’s curled up at my feet. It’s the closest he’s come near me lately. I see so much beauty in him. I can see the world through his big blue eyes. But I also see his pain. And I see the way the world looks at him. This song. This perfectly written string of words fills my heart with hope. It feels me with power. I sing your music daily and just finished your audio book. When it was over my heart broke a bit. It was if , for awhile I was hearing a friend talk to me about their life. It made me feel less alone. I just want to say thank you for your words. For your voice. For sharing your soul with us.
Your son is a blessing and sadly others cannot see the gift God has given you" to raise and care for everyday.. He is so blessed to have you as his mother and God will give you strength in those times that it gets hard in your Lives. in the name of Jesus Christ his son ..
May the good Lord always watch over you and your son ...
I have a 7 year old with the same diagnosis. He doesn't talk but boy does he love music! Don't ever give up. This life is very hard but also so beautiful!
This comment inspired tears and chills upon my skin, kind stranger, you are beautiful too, please never stop spreading love in every colorful form
I wish i could say it gets easier but it does get more manageable. My son is 25 you surely isn't alone. We are out here fighting this fight of faith with you. You just can't see us individually. God is in control of our lives take it day by day. Start your day with prayer throughout the day give Him thanks and end your day with prayer. God loves you and so do i. ❤🥰❤🤝🏽🤝🏽🤝🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾
I just read your story and it touched my heart. I have an 8yr old daughter with autism. I tell her how much I love her she can’t say it back. It used to break my heart until I realized she shows her love in different ways. You are a great mother the fact that you worry that you are not ,just shows that you are a great mother.
I love that she put a veteran in this video. We overlook the people who put their lives on the line for our freedom and so many times they are overlooked, and abandoned.
These people fought for our country so that we could have freedoms to be whatever we could be, and they should never be forgotten or cast aside.
Your freedom...? Sorry didnt know usa has a freedom problems..
Yep..,.. as an old gay geezer no one is given an exception to cruelty
And she included an immigration story too. Humanity
I'm leaving this comment here so that everytime it gets a like I will come to know that someone has finally discovered this masterpiece. Sooner or later people will discover this gem. 💖
I’m a transgender youth in the south, texas to be exact. I just turned 18 and i’m so scared to be an adult here, it feels like everyone here hates me and who i am, what i am, every inch of me. but this song gives me hope, makes me feel like maybe, just *maybe* it’s worth it, to keep on trying and maybe get somewhere better. I’m terrified of violence, to use public bathrooms, to speak or for my binder to show. i hope it’s going to be okay, that i’ll live a long happy life where people don’t hate my identity and see me for who i am. Thank you for this song, and thank you for the hope and peace it brings me.❤️🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
I cry reading your post. I hurt for you. I am old and I know that at 18 so many things seem overwhelming. Trust me, it will get better. You will find your place. Not everyone hates. Please, just you be you.
I’m a 51 year old mom in Toronto. My daughter is a year younger than you. She’s queer and most of her friends are queer and trans. Most of my friends are as well. It enrages, terrifies, and deeply saddens me what all trans and nonbinary people are being faced with, this endless barrage of ignorance and hatred and literal violence. It’s time that the assholes perpetrating this rottenness are accountable. It needs to stop yesterday.
I just want to send you some love and support, and I got a big old internet mom hug if you need one. And I’m a good listener if you ever need a friend. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this.
I’m glad this song gives you some comfort. It does me, too. And I literally just sent it to my kid.
❤
Be happy with who you are ❤
As a young queer in 2007, when Brandi's first album came out, I felt the same way.... I am so proud of her for continuing to inspire, and you for continuing to persist & persevere. Know that you are loved & that you will find your tribe soon and they will wrap you up in a big blanket of love
A few days ago I turned 44 years old and today I listen to this song for the very first time, and I couldn’t stop crying while I was on the train to my house... I’m latino, inmigrant, gay and old... many times I have felt invisible in a city with millions of people around me, but tonight I saw myself in your song.
Maybe you never read this but today you made me feel human again for 4:58 minutes...
Thank you Brandi... ♥️
Were do you live?
You're not old...
One correction, you are very young yet!
I'm the same age. I'm your sister. So you aren't alone. xoxox
Happy Birth-week, Santiago. I am 43, and recently I have been feeling old too, but I am hoping for a 2nd wind because I am about to move countries and start again from scratch. It is scary, and yes, it is lonely. Life has so many ups and downs. But I am determined to try. I was a strong, energetic and creative person when I was young and lost most of that the past few years, but I want to try and find some of that in me still. I hope you also find the best in you soon too. Warmest wishes.
I am a therapist. I can't tell you how many times I have shared this song and video with clients. It is beautiful.
Thank you ❤. You know they are beautiful too.
Do you share it with a certain kind of client? I'm having a hard time understanding the reasoning behind showing it to them. Is it the "the joke's on them" line? Is it about bullying maybe? Or is it "I've seen how it ends". Is it to tell them it will all be okay in the end? Sorry if I come across ignorant, I just want to understand :)
If you haven't seen it, you should check out "Hi Ren" by Ren. It's a lifechanging experience.
Im not the therapist but id say its good to share with anyone who feels they are made to feel lesser than or feel beat down by life.
Amen Lauren! ❤@@laurenbendik2006
I am leaving this comment here so after a month or a year, when someone likes it , I'll get reminded of this song and how much I have changed since I first heard it.
Brandi Carlile! OMG what insight what feeling. This came from the Universe. The tears won't stop flowing and I am 78 years old. Thank you for this song. 🌹🌹
Those are the tears of life, let them flow
To the young people watching this video and listening to this song, REMEMBER THIS.
The bullies are ALWAYS more miserable than you. They are broken, sad, lonely and empty, and the only thing that makes them feel better is to try to make YOU as miserable as THEM with their ugly words and actions.
Keep fighting through the tears and you will come out on the other side more strong and confident and beautiful than you could ever imagine. You are worth the fight ❤❤❤❤
🧡 Thank you so much. 🧡 Infinite love to you. 🧡
Been bullied all my life from everyone, by my family/parents, sister, partners, friends, school, university, work, teenagers, adults, white people, coloured people, neighbours, neighbourhood. It feels like the whole world is bullying me. Thank you for your kindness & respect.

I don't think the bullies even know what they do for they carry so much trauma that they believe that's who they are.
False be christ and 1 person blamed for all your fu** ups and not sticking up for yourself or dying for yourself. You're a loser expecting or designating someone else to do it. The person that doesn't die inherits thebearth and you all follow. Play this game. Bet right or wrong. It's a 50 50
I'm a School Counselor and used this video as part of a Social Emotional Lesson for Middle School this morning. Tough crowd. This video is absolutely disarming and powerful. It has a great representation of ages and cultures/skin tones that is inclusive and reaches the empathy even Middle Schoolers can access.
Love that, wish we had counselors like you way back when
I'm pretty sure this is actually the greatest song of all time.
👍🏻 agree❤
An anthem to inclusion and acceptance. A middle finger to bullies and haters. What an amazing, haunting, powerful song and video.
It knocks me out! Omg! What a talent!
Well and truly! I keep falling in love with this song whenever I hear it. It's rare that I get this captivated by a song; its lyrics, music and even her voice is strong yet gentle and angelic. This girl is mighty gifted!
No it's not. God's a man and he's above. You're all below him the 99.999999999999999999 because you're not the 1.
I can't believe I've wasted so much time not hearing her voice. What a gift she is. A storyteller and a musician. I've found my new favorite artist!!
Totally agree!Where have I been?
Same! I just discovered her a year or so ago! How have I missed her!!!!
I’ve been a fan since I first heard her around 2006.
Since then most of the time there’s a new song I really like on the radio there’s a 90% chance it’s Brandi
This song amazes me!I hope someone plays it in remembrance of me!!
Plea
This song is more criminally underrated than I thought 😳 thanks Benny and AGT for the introduction wow it’s beautiful 😭
Yes, me too! I cried, and I'm crying again now!
Chris 8 this singer is just Awesome 😎 what a fantastic voice xx
This song just has less views but it doesn't change the fact that this song Actually won Grammy award! People are busy into rap/hip hop shit rn:(
please everyone pass this video around!
Whoever you are, wherever you are…celebrate yourself. Never give up. Never.
Women spin kindness like a innocent child that they teach and hold dearly each moment of life.
Hands down, Brandi Carlile gave THE BEST performance at the 2019 Grammy’s. Should have won more than she did.
At 68, I've heard how many songs? Yours, Brandi, is one of the best.
61..I feel the say way!
Who are these 2.2K people who don't like this song? Are you nuts? It is heavy, but addresses acknowledges many of the problems we have in America.
This song hits right in my heart I cry every time I listen to it. Even more now, we lost our beautiful niece July 2023. My sisters daughter. Let's be kind and teach kindness to our kids.
This is one of the GREATEST songs ever
Agree!
I have to agree.
I think it might be the best song this century so far.
Sounds Alright. Sounds like a song from the 70’s.
Totally agree and one of the most underrated song ever
If I had a dollar for every time brandi’s music made me cry on the bus I would be able to afford something other than public transportation

You are a sweet soul.

Thank you Brandi for letting me take part in your vision. Six years have passed just about, I was so tortured back then. But stuff like this gave me hope. Thank you for being part of my blessing here. We go on. 💗🙏🏽
I’m Mexican, gay, and trans. This made me feel like a human.
Don't know why but I am a 45 year old man sobbing at this song
something spoke to me
It must trigger memories from your childhood, or maybe you're a parent yourself.

Thanks AGT and Benicio for bringing me here. Great song.

Great song.. thanks to Benicio..
I never realized how powerful this song is. Whew 😢! For some who have never fit in, thank you for finding our voice. 🙏🏽🥹
I love that the people in the video get to smile at the end. It should be that way.
I can’t even express how important a song this is. I wish every teen who has felt rejection could hear this song and every person who has felt prejudice due to class, or any type of social difference. I sure needed this in the 1980s.
💯💙
This is the America we fight for. This is the America we grieve for. This IS America! What a beautiful gift!
TheBuch4 Well said! Well said!
Amen
TY Brandi for this song.
As a Christian, I believe all Christians need to listen to this and hear her words. We are too judgemental and aren't the loving people the Lord commands us to be. We are to love one another. That is a complete sentence/command, there is no "except for" at the end. To those that feel judged and are hurting, you are loved just as you are. Others don't define you nor have been given any authority to judge you. Don't catch their ball of hate when thrown at you. You are worthy ❤️
To those who ever took my kindness as my weakness... The joke is on them
🤗💗💙
Such a perfect comment. This comment needs to go viral. You should hash tag it. Can I steal it and put it on my Facebook? It’s exactly what I feel too.
Yes❤❤❤❤
EXACTLY, EXACTLY, EXACTLY!!!!!!!

Words and music from the heart. Universal language of the heart, the mind, and most importantly the soul.
My son was born with Down Syndrome 36 years ago. He was laughed at. He asked me what a spastic was and what was a mongol. I asked him where he had heard these words. He said it was his ‘friends’ at school. Thank you Brandi, I am smiling as I listen to your voice as the tears roll down my cheeks. My Boy shines and he is beautiful and he is My Guardian Angel who gifts me and many, unconditional love ❤️
I am 58 years old, and starting to heal old wounds others inflicted during my childhood. I am an oldest of everything (oldest grandchild, daughter, niece, cousin). I was blessed with 5 kids and (for now) 12 grandkids. This song definitely have healing properties. Listen and sometimes sing it every day to help me survive some of my most challenging days. Bless you all 🙏🏼♥️
This sounds like me. Hope you are doing well. This song is beautiful x
Thank you dear. Doing better. Greetings and Blessings 🙏🏼♥️

After waking up from Jehovahs witnesses cult indoctrinations, after 40 years, shunned by all my family and life-long friends, I found the lyrics to have a special meaning. Thank you very very much for this piece of art giving my heart a hug of comfort and motivation.
How many of us @WFUV listeners came here, yes to enjoy the beautiful song, but also to see Rita Houston one more time. 💔🎶
I can't wait to play this alone in my car on a rainy night and cry.
Lol you just reminded me of The show "Everybody Loves Raymond" in the episode that Debra is listening to a song and crying, and Raymond comes in he house asking why she was upset.. Debra goes, " just because, you should try it .. Raymond goes, "I'm sorry I don't schedule a time to cry" lol your comment reminded of that (looking forward and scheduling to cry) it's a very beautiful song, made me cry too
At the end of the day, we all just want to be loved and accepted. Be kind.
#beExcellentToEachother
I have been bullied. By everyone, i know all my life until i heard this song a few weeks ago.... i even got sober . Thank you, Brandi ... I'm a fellow musician. I'll cover this song to save others. With your permission.
Nothing like being bullied all through school for being short, skinny, nerdy, you name it... but pushing through in spite of it... then coming home from college and seeing one of your biggest bullies hand you your food at McDonald's. And as the years go by, continuing to realize as you go through life that that was just a small part of your big and wonderful life. They don't define you. You define you.
Grammy worthy vocal.
Turns out you were right lol
bronco devil you were right!
This song needs to win the grammy. Its one of the best songs of this year.
This song is about power. The power you give to another human being to pass judgment on you. Stop. Know who you are. Give nobody this power over you.
I came straight here , after seeing this INCREDIBLE singer, performing this song live , on the NBC Today Show this morning. I live in Brisbane Australia , and I have never heard of Brandi Carlile - until today . You have a new fan Brandi
Just watched her live on the Grammys. I had chills the entire time. The woman is absolutely incredible, unique, and powerful with her voice.
Wasn't it an amazing performance??? I loved all the performances but this one stood out for me.
Me too. I was mesmerized by Brandi last night.
It was awesome!
I can’t find a video of the performance to watch it 😢
I have never watched her perform ..but let me tell y'all..this incredibly amazing talented woman touched the very depth of my soul with her words and chilling yet soothing voice...totally blew me away..I saw her today on Ellen as well and THAT performance was way better than on the Grammys..Ms. Brandi..I wish you nothing but all the success and happiness ..love from all.. you so deserve..you are down to earth and true..peace be with you and your wife always..
As far as as I'm concerned Brandi is the most talented female singer/song writers of her generation! I'm so glad I found her music! ❤
Oh! And I'm 65!
I'm 66 and feel the same way... her music is haunting and reaches deep within.
I’m 15 and I feel this way, I feel that she is one of the most talented and caring singers of my generation as well
I'm just glad I found her. That kid from AGT brought me here. This song...
Fellow 65 year old! Been fangirling over Brandi since 2005!

Everyone who is here because of her Grammy nominations should explore the rest of her catalog. I’ve been a fan of hers for years and this recognition is well deserved.
yaaasssssssssss
Exactly what I’m doing. Thanks for not being one of those assholes that criticizes people for “just finally finding out about her because of the Grammys”. Should definitely win record of the year imo.
YuTu13e Everyone discovers music in different ways and at different times! Some people act like they were the first to discover every artist they listen to lol. I’ve been “late to the party” on many bands and artists who are now some of my favorites. Gatekeeping annoys me, and I’m just glad more people are discovering how amazing Brandi is!
Ashley Marlow same, I’ve been on both ends.
Thank you for the video: Directed by Danny Clinch
I was bullied in jr. high by 2 girls that made it hell for me. I wish I’d had this song then. Their bullying really scarred me and caused much grief for me even now. Totally changed my sweet and naive nature to one of mistrust and fear of other people. This is a great song.
Sorry you went through that. Hope you've been feeling better.🙂
I am so very sorry about this. You deserved so much better than what you were given.
Benicio Bryant from America's Got Talent brought me here! What a phenomenal cover of a beautiful song.

you're a year ahead of me! I have it on autorepeat - need to make up for lost time 💕

Not everyone has the same tastes. If this is a song that everyone _has_ to love, then what is the point???
Most of the time I am unimpressed and depressed with this world because I am different. This magic song makes me want to grab some paper towels and a bottle of windex and shine up my soul until it sparkles like a huge diamond. How restored and soaring you made me feel. With thanks from your newest fan, a 56 year old single red state misfit in Columbus, Ohio who discovered you and this song for the very first time tonight while watching you on the Grammys. My dog Belle moved off the couch and stared at me because she thought something was wrong because it made me cry. Many thanks for making me feel something. Just HAD to attempt to let you know.

I'm here as Elton John said, of any song he could wish he had written, it was this one.
Has to be the ultimate compliment of all time for an artist.
Well it took me a lot longer but he led me to this and I'm so appreciative of the posts about those featured I am learning.
Omg finally I listened to her song a while back called “The Story “ just as good this woman is by far my favorite singer composer .and ty Benicio Bryant for singing The Joke on Agt....🤗😘🤗 my goosebumps are flipping out insanely
Did he really say that? I love this song 😭😭😍😍
Considering that the vast majority of Elton John's songs were written by his long time lyricist, the songwriter Bernie Taupin, that's an interesting thing for Elton to have said. Elton composes the music, but it's Bernie who writes the words. The lyrics for almost all of Elton's beloved songs were written by Bernie Taupin, such as "Tiny Dancer," "Candle in the Wind," "Your Song," "Someone Saved My Life Tonight," "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues," "Sacrifice," "Daniel," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," etc. Bernie's a quintessential Gemini lyricist, as is Brandi Carlile.
Gemini are usually phenomenally gifted lyricists, when they're musically inclined. Other famous Gemini singer/songwriters are:
-Bob Dylan
-Paul McCartney
-Tupac Shakur
-Prince
-Kendrick Lamar
-Macklemore
-Lauryn Hill
-The Notorious B.I.G
-Stevie Nicks
-Brian Wilson
-Danny Elfman
-Lionel Richie
-Sturgill Simpson
-Melissa Etheridge
-Noel Gallagher
-Alanis Morisette
-Pete Wentz
And on and on...
The way her voice breaks is so thrilling. It pierces through everything through all the bs and trauma and baggage and pokes right into your heart. I wish I heard her more on the radio, theres so much junk getting airtime instead of great artists.
Krater.96
What’s a “radio”
My favorite part is her voice breaks.
she is an amazing vocalist!!
When I'm in the car i usually stick to the stations that play music from before the 90s, occasionally listening to 90s if they're playing a good song. Kind of sad that you have to get on the internet and search up gems like this just to listen to it. Been a fan of Brandi since i was a kid. Always hoped and wished she'd blow up like Taylor Swift, can't say I'm disappointed that she didn't. But she does deserve much more recognition.
I cry every single time I listen to this. I first saw her sing it at the Grammy’s. I saw the emotion in the audience as well. Amazing thoughtful beautiful song sung by an amazing woman.

Sadly I lost my wife after 49 very very happy years five years ago, (cancer) so, alone now, and only have my memories and the very best thing in my life now is memories , music and song!!
This is the 4th year of no any sort of communication! She massed up my psychic as a child and yet she thinks im the problem!
What hurts is that, she doesnt understand the extent of what she did affects me and i didn't confront her about! Other wise she will insinuate of me wanting an apology because yap! parents on this side of the world are not faulty to their own off springs which i understand!
I left the country may be after ten yrs i will think of a possible make up that is 6yrs to go!
@@MrChrissy1r I can totally relate to you. All I have left after an accident that left me disabled, losing my wife and losing the love of my son is music. Music is a healer. Stay strong, Chris Bond!
Why should you have to feel awful. You are a Mother you should aways know you are one of a sort kindness that grows with everything you say.
To all our lbgtq young folk and their parents in the cruel state of Texas I hope this song gives you comfort 🙏
Upon learning today of the passing of Rita Houston, the program director at WFUV-FM in New York, and reading that Rita was included in this video, I immediately needed to find it and watch. And, of course, watch it and listen to it again. And again. It was a delight to read Brandi's kind remarks about Rita today (wfuv.org/content/rita-houston-apostle-artistry), including the mention that Rita was the first person to play Brandi's music on the radio. That speaks volumes to Rita's insight, talent, spirit and grace . . . that she so quickly recognized, embraced and supported outstanding musical artists like Brandi Carlile.
This is my new anthem...
I'm predicting it now. Grammy for Record of the Year, and Vocal Performance. Perfect song.
Lisa Angell so. Who cares. I like shit whether it gets a Grammy or any dreamt up award. That’s superficial BS.
Have a Snickers Jan. I didn't say I loved it because it is Grammy worthy. It was just a prediction. That's all.
U r right sis. But this song sounds like beautiful by christina aguilera. Still great though.
Well you predicted right, she won the Grammy !!
Lisa Angell damn ,you were right
I am unashamed to admit this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. So beautifully delivered.
❤️
Me too.
Same here . Don't be ashamed of being a beautiful person reacting to beautiful things ❤
Absolutely and sends chills down my spine!
I cried so hard today hearing this song!!! Played it 3 times
I live in the Deep South though I was born and raised in the northeast during the 60s. I still hold those values of equality, justice, opportunity and loving acceptance of every lifeform on our wondrous Mother Earth.
I battle in local governmental politics, exposing BP in the 2010 Disaster, corruption and bigotry, environmental justice. I have been attacked inperson and on SM as a feminazi, libtard, as a "anti-growth communist" etc.
I wrote my older brother and despaired that my voice was not heard, what was the point? He told me "Never stop, your voice is your gift, your voice gives courage to others, never stop talking!"
And he shared a link to this incredible anthem! And I feel strengthened every time I listen.
"Misfits" are the movers and changers in the world!
Her stellar Grammy performance brought me here. What a gift you are. Wow.
Me too
You're feeling nervous, aren't you, boy?
With your quiet voice and impeccable style
Don't ever let them steal your joy
And your gentle ways, to keep 'em from running wild
They can kick dirt in your face
Dress you down, and tell you that your place
Is in the middle, when they hate the way you shine
I see you tugging on your shirt
Trying to hide inside of it and hide how much it hurts
And the joke's on them
Thank you for taking the time to write that down I for one appreciate it.
Jennifer Pardue thanks... peace and love ..
@Raheel Sidddiqui
@David Cantwell
No problem at all.
Honestly, I just copied and pasted from another website. 🤷🏻♀️😬
The song is so very inspiring and meaningful, I wish everyone in the would would hear it, and soak up the lyrics in their hearts.
so beautiful ♡
@@JennP.Can6316 what is the song about? I am not quite sure. Beautiful and haunting.

Always remember that you are beautiful, wonderful, strong, you are loved, and you have your best days still ahead of you. We are going to make a difference. God loves you so much. Have a Blessed Christmas 🎄✝️🕊️ and Blessed New Year 💟. We are blessed because we already received the best Christmas gift, the perfect Christmas gift, God's, Jesus Christ.🕊️
Oh. My. Gawd.
I just found Brandi Carlisle today.
I'm hugely impressed.
Thank you.
I had never heard of her and I'm thankful to the Grammys for introducing me to her.
Chills all over my body
TheOtherSide she was fairly popular in the mid 2000s. You should listen to her other songs. She’s great!
Agreed!! Go back and listen to The Story. I still listen to it, first song on my Mp3.
She’s even better in person. Go see her if you can!
Yes this song has been downloaded I felt those same chills
saaaaame
One of the great artists of our time. How fortunate are we to have Brandi Carlile?
I go to a dance studio where I take ballet, pointe, and am on the performance team. I am going into my sophomore year of high school and at my dance studio the year you graduate you are allowed to have a senior dance. So you can pick what style, choreography, and song you dance to. Ever since my mom knew of this, she has taken it upon herself to brainstorm song ideas for my senior dance. When she drives me places she plays her own music in the car and every so often she will have me listen to a song and say “this would be perfect for a senior dance🤩”. I always kind of just said “yeah” and forget about it. A couple days ago, she was driving me to dance and said she wanted me to listen to a song. I rolled my eyes a little and expected it to be just another slow tempo, lyrical song. But when I listened to it, I had chills with every word this woman sang. This song has so much real emotion and soal in it. When the song ended I immediately downloaded it on my phone. The cracks in her voice are so addicting and moving at the same time. I have listened to this song on repeat for I don’t know how many hours and it never gets old. There is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be my senior dance and my favorite song forever.
I’m a female, Latina, gay, and seeing the worst was fool of fog, I’ve been invisible for many years, but this song made me feel like I can kick high and keep my head up high, thank you for this..
Yes, you can!! ❤️=❤️
Me gusta tu nombre Jessica Palacio
Jessica, just be a good person and be true to yourself, thats all that matters.
Why do we hear the same music over and over on the radio when we have this!! She is amazing 😊
Try different radio! Search for local, community radio (if available in your area) or search out ones on the web. WMNF.org in Tampa.
I've heard this song play once at work. I'd heard Hold Out Your Hand many times before the Grammys but shortly after, I did hear this song play. It was a nice change. I do like it when Hold Out Your Hand plays. Most of the music is not very good and when something I enjoy plays, it's such a nice few minutes!
My god. A song with meaningful lyrics, sung to a well constructed melody by a songwriter of open heart and mind. In 2019. I can face another day.
ASD moms are very special people. Sometimes it feels like we are the only ones who understand, or try to understand their inner worlds. I know that he understands he loves me and I love him. Be Strong mommy. You're not alone🦋❤️
I just saw her open for P!NK the other day in NY. I had no clue who she was. But my God she put on such an amazing show. I became a fan right there.
Grammy Nominated!! I am so happy for her, this song deserves Song and Record Of The Year nods
Deserves the award for each category :')
Shallow is better
Citizen Erazed I wish it got more plays on the radio. I didn’t even know who she was until the Grammy nominations and she deserves to win with this masterpiece
I'm sorry but shallow is that btch. Period!
Thank you Ben Platt for introducing me to this beautiful song 💞
I listen to this song regularly on my commute to work, and while I do housework it comes on my automatic playlists. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard it. I cry every time she gets to the part where she says “they displace you after carrying your baby on your back across the desert”. I’ll never come close to feeling what that must be like. I was born in America. My parents were not fleeing from anything. The rest of the song resonates with me as a disabled person, as a queer person, and as a woman. And that part always makes me just feel so much like I want to send kisses and hugs and good fortune to anybody in that situation- and so sorry that I cannot help. I hope anybody who is trying to win a better life for their children is met with victory. I’m not a religious person, but that line in this song really does make me pray to the universe that anybody who has carried their child on their back across the desert enjoys every good thing life has to offer after they end up where they want to be.
That is also one of my favorite lines in this miraculous song!
I didn’t know just how impactful one single song could be, this is just… this is amazing
I hope she knows what she has done for some people all over the world, this is from Nigeria 🇳🇬
And lets hope it continues! Love from Canada!
So ur Canadian too! Nice
I hope that peace and love are yours, from the USA (where we just got rid of Donald Trump!!)
@@leafnlore2712 lol 😂
From Nigeria too.
This song just broke my heart and gave me life, simultaneously.
Brandi Carlile has more talent in her pinkie than many "big name" acts have combined.
I’m looking through the comments as it plays and it’s amazing all the stories and trauma experiences people getting through it , losing it, making it, seeing through it, denying it, holding it, rolling w it, hating it, living it, indifferent. And all of it is just ok and I’m just a ball of tears right now.
