I wonder, how was it like from the Afghan's perspective on all these wars from the Soviet Union to today(not just the simplified and boring "lol infidel bad me smash" reason). Because it really just seems like their enemies were in absolute despair while they just noscoped everyone they could and feeling nothing at all.
They were fighting a guerrilla war. So they are taking way more casualties than the military they are fighting against.
The officially published Russian dead is around 13,000. Compared to an estimated 100,000ish mujahideen dead. They are taking incredible casualties in order to kill just one Russian. Same thing happened in Vietnam, and the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The guerrilla side always takes more casualties.
