I was super into jack stauber in like early 2020 and micropop had come out the previous year, I really loved his music but left his music scene. I realized who were fans of him and I don’t want to be involved with them 😭
I was not aware that Jack Stauber was required to keep everyone updated as to his whereabouts, like an offender or something. It's probably a Bo Burnham type thing, we may not hear from him for awhile until one day, when we need him most, he returns.
Not really related to Jack Stauber, but same situation happened and is still happening to lemon demon aka Neil Cicierega. His fans are mostly crazy and they worship him as a god, call him their dad only because he has got a child, and acting crazy. And it has gone for a lot of years, 10+. I feel incredibly bad for Jack Stauber and Neil Cicierega, they don’t deserve all of it.
It's so sad that artists can't have the privacy they deserve. Unfortunately, things like this have been happening for a very long time, starting with paparazzi and with the introduction of internet, the fans themselves. People need to learn that even if you enjoy someone's artwork and think it's amazing, the artists are still human and would more often than not like to be treated as such. Privacy is a right that everyone should have, and it's wrong to infringe on that. Thanks for the great video, Evan ❤
(Yap incoming) I feel it really is a gamble to become famous/popular as an indie/alt performer. Whether you create art or music, you can bet your audience will be primarily awkward teens and neurodivergent people. No shade to those demographics (I fall into those categories anyway) but we do tend to have a huge issue with parasocial relationships and just general immaturity. I don't intend to excuse the behavior, but it does make sense, a bullied alt kid with few friends or a confused and scared young adult will definitely latch onto an internet personality that seems just as weird as them and use them as a way to escape the trivialities and struggles of the human condition. It sucks that Jack Stauber felt the need to distance himself, but we really can't blame him. All we can do is analyze, reflect, and better ourselves. Maybe one day he'll return, or maybe we'll help another aspiring artist rise to fame and feel welcomed and safe in their fanbase.
I think he's one of the coolest musicians to ever do it. The fact he blends media for his music adds onto that for me. I don't blame him for letting his channel take a backseat to being less of a public figure since rabid fanbases are pretty annoying a lot of times lol.
amazing video about jack stauber evan. I think that might really be the reason why he's not uploading and I feel really bad about that. I hope he's doing well though and he can keep making his music quietly.
Whether people don't realize it or not Jack has been all over the place for such a long time not joking and my favorite song is dead weight and dog nightmare :) I hope he does well
This is exactly why we figured he left, been fans of his since 2017 and he always seemed like he wanted to be an artists’ artist, not a teenager’s pop idol.
I first found Jack Stauber on UA-cam and thought he is a really cool guy I love his music, but to see so many people saying things like “oh he died” or “he just doesn’t like music anymore” makes it hard for others to enjoy his music. An people should really stop harassing him to post publicly again, I say he can take as much time as he wants before he comes back. Like I said I really love his music and so does a lot of other people, Jack Stauber is one of the best music artists I’ve ever listened to.
I agree with you about the community thing. It makes me so upset, but I knew it would probably happen ever since I heard the news that someone leaked his song. I’ve been worried about this situation for a while now. Especially since Jack is literally my idol and I’m a pretty new fan. I only started listening to his music about 6 months ago, and since then I’ve probably listened to almost all of his songs. Honestly if I were Jack, I would probably have already quit due to the toxic community. Like FR some people in the community just have NO RESPECT. I’ve actually seen comments from some of these people on Jack’s videos and fan channels. Also, the fact that these people use LEAKED SONGS for ANIMATION MEMES and still claim to be “fans” is just ridiculous. Like BRO it’s like they WANT HIM to quit… Imagine working so hard and enjoying your job, but other people just STRAIGHT UP RUIN IT FOR YOU by taking advantage of your work!! It’s just messed up man…
I hated that the song was leaked the worst thing was people making the memes would mention in their desc they just 'learned' about the song being leaked yet they STILL keep it uploaded I get animation takes alot of time but you still need to learn some sources of when you do stuff like music animations.
He’s such a talented artist but people just have to ruin it with there weird parasocial relationships It’s such a shame We can’t have nice things anymore
Im glad someone finally made a video on this. I knew he was still active on pateron but I'm a little dissapointed that i don't have money to spare. It's unfortunate but I still hope he's enjoying what he does even if i can't support him anymore
Wherever life may lead jack, I hope he does well. he's inspired so many people, myself aswell and i hope he knows this, i hope he continues to do what he enjoys and what makes him comfortable.
It's late at night but this video was really nice to watch before going to bed, I've been a fan of Jack for a long time similar to you the only difference being i was 16-17, it was truly amazing seeing song after song being uploaded with a nice animation on top to compliment everything, makes me think how naive I was to think it was going to last forever, Opal was so good and genius that it made me hope for maybe full lenght animated movie from him but oh well life happens lol, i'm glad that he's still doing what he loves with the support on Patreon and to be completely honest, although i miss Jack's stuff dearly he still made a name for himself and impacted the music scene with his style and creativity, again, amazing video and hope to see more stuff coming from you in the future
I found him about 9 months ago from randomly seeing his video rain on UA-cam when I was going through some hard times and it really helped me. I fell in love with his music and art. I am part of you young people who go crazy for his music you talked about and would love for his return. But I had never really looked into why he stopped uploading and this makes a lot of sense. I still listen to his music often and if he takes a break from his career permanently I see I can still enjoy the music he has uploaded. I hope at some point people are not as clingy I think I would be clingy if I knew about him when he was still uploading. If you read this random rant thx.
Similar thing happened with the Tally Hall fanbase :( I hate it because they're a great band but the fanbase is made up of 14 year olds who are so so so disrespectful towards them to the point where I'm embarrassed to admit that I as an adult love their music.
Yup. Most of the fans have a weird parasocial connection to the band. ESPECIALLY when people say weird things abt Andrew. I've seen people call him Baby Girl and weird things like that. Most fans need to realize that they are grown men and aren't your ocs or fictional characters. I've seen people make Tally Hall AUs and things like that. I get it, if it's fanart that's just redrawing the group as normal that's acceptable. Everything that has fans will have fanart, but if you are making ships or those weird images that treat them like a kindergartner that is either weird or just downright not okay. (Especially ships. I could NEVER....) I can understand if most of the fan base is teenagers. That's okay! Just don't act weird :D
ngl i got into jack stauber music 1 week ago so see this video popping up surprised me, but it was just in time, who knows i wouldn't become one of the weird fans of him
I feel you on being one of those clingy fans. I used to be exactly like that for Tyler the Creator. I’m glad I had that phase though, because now I know it’s wrong to view famous people like that. I just started getting into Jack around a month ago and I’m in love with his stuff. I’m glad I can appreciate him normally rather than worshipping the ground he walks on. However, it’s disappointing I got into him when he stopped posting. 🤕 If he truly stopped posting cause his fandom I totally get it. I probably would’ve done that too. All I can hope for is that he’s still making stuff while he’s in his bubble.
very informative and I agree with your points. it was also interesting to hear this coming from you because I have watched some of your older videos in the past
Thank you so much for making this video !! I don't know how to express myself but thank you, really, I hope your video will be seen by many people and that people will understand. I consider myself a huge Jack Stauber fan, and I also had a phase where I was one of those people who was totally obsessed with him unfortunately. Now i'm 18, and maybe 1 or 2 years ago, I finally understood. This STRANGE phase was finally gone because I was becoming more mature etc. I broke away from his community to appreciate Jack Stauber's art as it deserves to be appreciated and with my own eyes and mind. I watched every single one of his videos admiring everything he did with passion. I love all these art forms, I love his music, I love his drawings and his way of making videos and all that the amazing things he created. Jack Stauber's art is such a vibe that I feel like a lot of people don't understand or don't take the time to appreciate it as it should be. Jack Stauber is a great artist which uses lots of different techniques and I find it so beautiful. But people tend to forget that he has a life, and all this popularity is A LOT and not suitable for everyone. I wish I had known about his contents before it became too popular. yk the feeling of being a fan of a small indie cool artist who makes weird music that few people can appreciate, I would have loved to experience this this way (I don't blame anyone, I'm just saying that I would have loved to experience that.) But yeah, to me Jack Stauber look like a really cool guy creating things and living his life, and not like a big content creator who need to be here for his community. Personally I never worried about Jack Stauber the same way as his community do, I just wondered from time to time how he is doing in his life 'cause he really seems like a good guy so I hope nothing bad happens to him, but I didn't care if he posted videos or not. I have always been the type of fan who would watch all of his videos on repeat to admire every detail and technique used in his videos with stars in my eyes, telling myself that this guy is really cool. If I felt good in my life and would have continued to make more art (I wish I had time for this), Jack Stauber would probably have inspired all my work. So far he has already affected my perception of many things and life by his art and music.
This video is great Evan. He is a phenomenal artist that every single one of songs his making have life in them and passion. Its sad that he is not making anything publick for now. It makes me wonder about some past mistakes i made.
Jack is a cool dude that i always listen to his songs and i also have been wondered of where he have been but it turns out there was a reason. This video has a really deep reason
I like his music. He looks like a very cool dude just being himself, but worshipping him? That crosses the line. He's not your god. He's not a fictional oc. He's human. Idols are human. Treat them like one.
I’ve always payed no mind to it. In my honest opinion jack stauber started a weird renaissance of indie pop, picking up back from bands like Phoenix, Tokyo police club, grizzly bear and wolf parade with a bit of the wackiness of brainiac for good measure. What sucks is most of his fans are tik tok zoomers and not music nerds. But if Jack is genuinely fine where he is now I’m fine with it already had a pretty great discography as is.
It's good to see someone making a Jack Stauber video again. I only discovered his channel the same week he released his last video. I remember going back and watching all of his videos. probobly was one of the best times of my life and it's honestly nostalgic now. He's been so inspiring for many people including myself, I hope he's doing well.
Hey, jack has been my favorite artist since 2021 and while i do think he probably doesn't want to do stuff like live performances anymore i don't think the fanbase being weird is the biggest reason why he doesn't upload anymore. I think hes also just experimenting and trying out new things in his studio. A lot of the patreon songs sound more like demos rather than fully finished songs. I don't think he will build an entire new studio just for his music to sound worse than it did before. By the way if you want any music that sounds like jack stauber, check out magdalena bay
i’ve been a fan of his since 2018 and i still support his patreon to this day. the reason i don’t agree with your theory is because he always experimented publicly. in addition, all of the micro pops are basically demos that got extended, just a bit more polished.
I'm 16 found him when I was 12 I like older music more than the modern ones we have now, but his underground music struck a chord with me, and I still love his music. I don't care if he comes back I just want to know he's doing good.
For anybody who's wondering, the Patreon posts come out exactly once a month, and he doesn't say anything otherwise; just a video and a song. Obviously fame is a completely life-absorbing thing to embrace. Look at what's happening to Chappell Roan! If that really is Jack's reason for going dark, then I'm really happy for him. He already can't do live shows at music festivals like he used to, the town would get mobbed. But there's also a chance he's just... busy. I mean, I would KILL for a new Stauber album, but he said he was majoring in marketing in that one college interview. Maybe he's making use of that degree, and his art is more of a hobby now? Who knows.
I think jack’s voice is very nice and he’s really cool. I don’t mind that he’s not making anymore videos, he already has so many videos, so many songs, and so much lore from those songs to figure out. I think that if he continued to make content his fans would grow a LOT, and with a ton of fans, there’s always the weird or uncomfortable ones. If he does make new content someday, I hope people don’t come flooding from the internet to see what he’s created. This video helped me realize that he’s really just a guy. I hope jack’s doing alright now.
I feel bad for the guy, I mean being just a normal guy, to having some fame, and then having obsessive fans. Just sucks that one part of his community might be what is not only stopping the normals fans from seeing/hearing what he makes but also for jack as if he does return his fans will probably be expecting a massive project or something and then get even more mad when that just (at least I think) won’t happpen.
no matter what, Jack Stauber's music will always feel cozy. like a musical hug. Nothing comes closer. It would be nice to have a public upload, but I can live without it.
It really sucks how he’s been treated, I’ve been a fan since 2020 (and I’m 15 so I got into him young) and I’ve watched almost everything he’s posted and I’ve been sad without seeing him post (I can’t even afford the Patreon if I could I would tbh even just to give him money to support him) and I can’t imagine being a fan that goes crazy over real people or do it publicly. I obsess over a lot of characters and if it’s a person I keep it in my head or with my friends privately. Anyways all this sucks and I hope he’s doing okay and will come back when/if he’s ready
I guess Jack Stuaber has a burn out of ideas I guess Still the same but not the same kind set with a mess Stacked but not willing to unpack Cause of the people in the community willing to attack? Clingy and bingy and jerky and less 1999 every year But the main issue now is a man who some people consider him as popular like Micheal Jackson just disappear? Many things happen forget about the past Have fun enjoying what’s left and last Just like life things just happen Enjoy the little things in life and start napping
i'm willing to bet he must've realized he blown up thanks to edgy 14 year olds in the animation meme community (the same ones that run tally hall and will wood's toxic communities), so the moment the fanbase cooled down, so did his rate of animations that's not to put him down or anything, every era must have an ending at some point
Jack was a big influence on me back in middle school. He got me through a dark era in my life, where I would exclusively listen to him. I know he’s gone for a reason, and I can only hope he’s doing good. Stay safe out there!
I found jack stauber in 2019 or 2020 by algorithm. I always hated buttercup and how it sounded. Right now I am in the section of the kids jack stauber group or kids that make jack stauber content and having fun. I love jack but I would never praise him and it’s super disappointing on what Pinterest thinks about jack. I feel bad for him but I really do hope he does well. ❤
a bit of a thought dump incoming, hope you don’t mind haha- i believe i was also part of that same BT discord group (which is likely how i found this video- i’ve been subscribed ever since! i even remember seeing your old videos back in the early pandemic days LOL) & i can definitely say that all of this info checks out with what i experienced then too. people were just SO weird about this random adult man that happened to make music they liked, giving him “headcanons” and calling him hot/“simping” for him, looking back on it it was such disgusting behavior. all that’s to say the normalization of making artists out to be people they aren’t in online spaces is CRAZY and i don’t understand how people think that behavior is okay? i’ve seen this happen to other people like chappell roan in the modern day, although i would not consider myself a fan of hers (therefore my opinion is one of an outsider) i’ve seen those that do display extremely parasocial behavior towards her, expecting things of her that she cannot do and breaking her boundaries. this video is extremely well-put together & it perfectly conveys my frustrations with the jack stauber “community”! thank you very much for the excellent watch :-)
also a bit of an extra yap i’m throwing into the replies because i feel like it’s unrelated to the original video- to speak from personal experience, i’ve seen this exact phenomenon occur in different communities i’m a part of VERY recently too, specifically the oneyplays-smiling friends joint fandom (for the unaware, oneyplays is a youtube channel for a large group of newgrounds users that play video games together, and smiling friends is a very popular adult swim cartoon). i have seen the same “babygirlification,” for lack of a better word, occur in BOTH communities… it’s so weird how people can project their strange fantasies onto real-life people when we as a species were blessed with the talent of creation- if you want to project just make an original character or something. it’s astonishing to me how humans, as fans of media online, will never learn how to properly respects artists boundaries.
I've grown a lot from when I first got into Jack Stauber to now. I got into Jack around 2020, and I was pretty young then, maybe too young. Nowadays I realize that he probably really likes Animal Collective. Oh, and that he probably won't come back to public content soon. It would be awesome if he did, but I doubt it. Such is the curse of being popular on the internet. Sometimes I imagine what it would be like if Jack hadn't gotten as popular. Still popular, but more underground like he used to be. Part of me thinks his success might be due to him making Pop Food as accessible as possible, calling his previous two albums "overly-introverted efforts" in an interview. Part of me wonders what it would be like if that album or anything after just didn't blow up. Would the fanbase be how it is today? Would I even know about him? All-in-all, I'm really disappointed that the fanbase is the way it is. Parasocial relationships suck, I wish I had money, and if you like Viator check out Sung Tongs by Animal Collective.
Jack stauber was actually the first person to introduce me into the indie types of songs, during my childhood I was mostly around 1990-2000 types of songs since my family tended to love them, but when I was little I was introduced to the internet, most things that were booming and popular was what I watched, but in one of my certain phases I had, jack staubers songs were used, although they gave off a weird core but sad core to me I loved it, still to this day I listen to his beautiful music with such memories to them, his music is like a blossoming flower, it gets the right amount of sun and water and makes the perfect songs
I've honestly been distraught not seeing any updates from him, he helped me through a seriously dark chapter of my life and I am forever grateful for him pulling me out of the pitch of it. I'm glad he made the decision to protect himself and take a hiatus. I hope someday he makes a come back, because I will certainly be there.
I love jack staubers music sm (not obsessively) but i hope we get closure one day. I understand completely if he doesnt feel safe to do it but it would be nice to hear a "im quiting) one day 🥲
I like Jack Stauber because he seems weird in the chill way and I like his music and the stories they sometimes tell and his art and claymations. I hope he is doing well and I don't need new music from him, all his already made music is so good already and theres a lot of it, and if new music comes out, ill probably end up enjoying that too. Plus I like his beard
Ive been a fan of his work since 2017, I love his music and artwork, whatever his reason for not being publicly active, I hope he's doing well. Yeah, if it IS parasocial fans that have something to do with this, well, I wouldn't blame him for becoming reclusive- popularity and having parasocial interactions can suck, especially given how social media is. He might be a talented artist, but also, like you said, he's just...A person, like everyone else, not a mythical being, we need to stop putting people on pedestals. Though, perhaps he might simply be working on something BIG and is really busy, I remember reading somebody say he said something like that on his Patreon, a while ago.

I feel it really is a gamble to become famous/popular as an indie/alt performer.

He’s such a talented artist but people just have to ruin it with there weird parasocial relationships
It’s such a shame
We can’t have nice things anymore
popularity is one of the worst things that can happen to a man, even if everyone sees it as a good thing
Im glad someone finally made a video on this. I knew he was still active on pateron but I'm a little dissapointed that i don't have money to spare. It's unfortunate but I still hope he's enjoying what he does even if i can't support him anymore
Amazing video, this perfectly sums up what most likely happened.
He probably just feels better and more comfortable posting on patreon.
@@BlueCanaryNightLightwho the fuck is making tally hall ships 💀💀💀
i agree with what you're saying at 9:36 .
ngl i got into jack stauber music 1 week ago so see this video popping up surprised me, but it was just in time, who knows i wouldn't become one of the weird fans of him
I feel you on being one of those clingy fans.
I wish I had known about his contents before it became too popular.
yk the feeling of being a fan of a small indie cool artist who makes weird music that few people can appreciate, I would have loved to experience this this way (I don't blame anyone, I'm just saying that I would have loved to experience that.)
But yeah, to me Jack Stauber look like a really cool guy creating things and living his life, and not like a big content creator who need to be here for his community.
Sorry I got hungry
This video is great Evan. He is a phenomenal artist that every single one of songs his making have life in them and passion. Its sad that he is not making anything publick for now. It makes me wonder about some past mistakes i made.
Jack is a cool dude that i always listen to his songs and i also have been wondered of where he have been but it turns out there was a reason. This video has a really deep reason
amazing video! youve got a thing for editing, keep making videos like this and im sure youll find success
I think he quit youtube
I like his music. He looks like a very cool dude just being himself, but worshipping him? That crosses the line. He's not your god. He's not a fictional oc. He's human. Idols are human. Treat them like one.
thank you for making a video on this
I’ve always payed no mind to it. But if Jack is genuinely fine where he is now I’m fine with it already had a pretty great discography as is.
prolly pittsburgh
Evan phillaw making banger music and vids🔥🔥🔥🔥
We see you Jack Stauber, your troubles are miles away
I love Jack stauber, but i like him enough to let him go and live his own life.
Sorry,, was hungrry😢
Who knows.
amazing video n its really in depth
I guess Jack Stuaber has a burn out of ideas I guess
Still the same but not the same kind set with a mess
Stacked but not willing to unpack
Cause of the people in the community willing to attack?
Clingy and bingy and jerky and less 1999 every year
But the main issue now is a man who some people consider him as popular like Micheal Jackson just disappear?
Many things happen forget about the past
Have fun enjoying what’s left and last
Just like life things just happen
Enjoy the little things in life and start napping
i'm willing to bet he must've realized he blown up thanks to edgy 14 year olds in the animation meme community (the same ones that run tally hall and will wood's toxic communities), so the moment the fanbase cooled down, so did his rate of animations
that's not to put him down or anything, every era must have an ending at some point
Wait what I never saw any of their communities as toxic?😭😭😭
How is the tally hall community toxic? Theyre just a little too enthusiastic
Jack was a big influence on me back in middle school. He got me through a dark era in my life, where I would exclusively listen to him. I know he’s gone for a reason, and I can only hope he’s doing good. Stay safe out there!
jack stauber died silly!!!!!! (no but jack take the time he needs frfr)
Very different video from your normal and I love this. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this type of content from you. this is great
I found jack stauber in 2019 or 2020 by algorithm. ❤
Why does this always happen, I wish we could just leave artists alone
Ok but the chapter names
Man this video has so much charm :') makes me feel kinda emotional for some reason🥲👍
Reminds me of bo burnham
Bro when I saw this video this morning it had 500 views, good to see it blew up
a bit of a thought dump incoming, hope you don’t mind haha-
i believe i was also part of that same BT discord group (which is likely how i found this video- i’ve been subscribed ever since! i even remember seeing your old videos back in the early pandemic days LOL) & i can definitely say that all of this info checks out with what i experienced then too. people were just SO weird about this random adult man that happened to make music they liked, giving him “headcanons” and calling him hot/“simping” for him, looking back on it it was such disgusting behavior. all that’s to say the normalization of making artists out to be people they aren’t in online spaces is CRAZY and i don’t understand how people think that behavior is okay? i’ve seen this happen to other people like chappell roan in the modern day, although i would not consider myself a fan of hers (therefore my opinion is one of an outsider) i’ve seen those that do display extremely parasocial behavior towards her, expecting things of her that she cannot do and breaking her boundaries. this video is extremely well-put together & it perfectly conveys my frustrations with the jack stauber “community”! thank you very much for the excellent watch :-)
also a bit of an extra yap i’m throwing into the replies because i feel like it’s unrelated to the original video- to speak from personal experience, i’ve seen this exact phenomenon occur in different communities i’m a part of VERY recently too, specifically the oneyplays-smiling friends joint fandom (for the unaware, oneyplays is a youtube channel for a large group of newgrounds users that play video games together, and smiling friends is a very popular adult swim cartoon). i have seen the same “babygirlification,” for lack of a better word, occur in BOTH communities… it’s so weird how people can project their strange fantasies onto real-life people when we as a species were blessed with the talent of creation- if you want to project just make an original character or something. it’s astonishing to me how humans, as fans of media online, will never learn how to properly respects artists boundaries.

I love how chill jack is! he really is inspiring with his mixed media music videos!
amazing video
I hope someday he makes a come back, because I will certainly be there.
it strange that he has a platform just not a social media platform. like that high school friend who made youtube videos without you knowing
I didn’t know my favorite song (bothersome) is in a chapter lol
Jack stauber fans try to not ruin a good thing challenge (impossible)
It appears that these people have not touched grass a day in their lives.
Thank goodness for the closure.
For everyone still worrying about Jack: stop it. Hope this helps!! ❤
Man I really miss Jack Stauber and yet I didn't even realize he was gone until now. I loved his surreal style a lot.
So basically he was like “you guys are weird” and then he dipped
And here I thought he was working in projects or films rn like other artists I follow.
Where is Waldo?? OR where is Jack Stauber??
Me when markiplier hasn’t posted in a month.
using discord only leads to bad things
