  • James shows you step by step how to install a new clutch flywheel and pilot bearing onto your LS engine so you can get it done quickly and get it done right. He also shows how to remove the old pilot bearing. It's very important to use sealant on the flywheel bolts and to use the proper torquing procedure.

    Thanks for posting this video.
    I hadn't heard about RTV on the flywheel bolts, but good idea for addressing the potential for oil leaks.
    I had heard that Loctite is used somewhere in this process but wasn't sure where. Good to know it is on the pressure plate. In some ways, I'm surprised that it is not used on the flywheel install.

    Thanks for the video! Love the content. Was there no oil or grease on the outside of that pilot bearing before it was pressed in? From the video it looked like it was brake clean, then metal on metal. Thank for the torque spec's and walk through. It might be video editing, but it looked like you skipped some bolts while torque'ing them. Thank for the vid. Can't wait for the next one!

      It's a press fit, so no nothing was needed. If you had trouble getting it in you could but as long as it's going in straight it's not needed

    Coming from ford motors I recently bought an L33 on a pallet and am now trying to put a clutch on it. Do these not have motor plates ???

    I’m doing a ls swap in my 2003 s10 and I’m having issues getting the clutch to work. It has the stock clutch master for 2003 s10 mated to a 1990 c1500 transmission 5 speed with external slave With a load on drivetrain it won’t go in gear or out of gear when in neutral while engine is running it won’t go in gear I don’t want to grind the gears will that master and slave combo work together or do I have other issues?

    I'm installing a new clutch in my T56 Camaro 4th gen... I use Loctite the red kind on my flywheel bolts I was not told to you silicone will I be okay? I'm all the way to the point to where I've got to adjust 4 the slave cylinder Clarence and I'm hoping that I can figure out how to do it

    • @SikkyTV
      @SikkyTV  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah the loctite will usually work the same way as long as you use enough

    Do you clean the flywheel flange with any abrasives prior to new flywheel install? If so, what do you use?

    • @SikkyTV
      @SikkyTV  3 роки тому

      you can use anything really. Scotchbrite pad or fine sand paper works.

    I got a 5.3/t56 set up currently . I got gifted an ls3 clutch spec stage 2 that was for my friends 2012 camaro , would it fit my set up?

      You would need to make sure the throwout bearing assembly has the right clearance to the clutch fingers

    i was wondering should you use rtv on flywheel bolts or locktight?

    • @SikkyTV
      @SikkyTV  6 років тому +1

      I've used both in the past. Honestly either would work good. RTV silicone works at sealing a little better than the locktight though

      loctite 272

    Would locktite 242 work on the pressure plate bolts also?

    • @SikkyTV
      @SikkyTV  2 роки тому

      It would but I wouldn't recommend RED loctite for pressure plate bolts. It can be a pain to remove so maybe Blue is a better choice.

    In regards to putting RTV on flywheel bolts: unsure is all LS engines need this, seems like maybe the LS3 and LS7 the crank bolts are not through to the engine? I have the 08 Corvette service manual that calls out to use threadlocker not RTV on the crank bolts to the flywheel. Although I am seeing several LS1 people mention the flywheel bolts can leak oil. If anyone else has insight on this please comment.

      Threadlocker will also seal in oil.

      yes, correct thread locker will do the trick too
