It'll get worse come playoffs....
when you hit someone with your stick in the face, even if it's unintentional it's 4 minutes. if you hit someone in the head even if it's unintentional it should be 5 minutes and a game. these guys skate up to 30 mph and size should not be an excuse.
It's only 4 mins if there is blood. Otherwise, it's only 2 minutes. Get it right. Also, 20mph is about the norm. Connor McDavid -fastest in the league currently- got 25mph. Please site your reference for the 30 mph. Take care, Karen
Even without the head contact that's 2 for charging. He took one last stride when the guy's back was turned. Increasing your speed as you line up a blindside hit, combined with his imposing size are what make this a dirty play.
The issue I have with this is "what is Rempe supposed to do differently?" Did he charge him? No. He was gliding well in advance. Did he get the elbow up? No, his arm was stapled to his side. Did he leave his feet? No. He was as flat footed as possible and didn't really use his legs to drive fully into the hit. Did he blindside him or hit him from behind? No, he hit him head on with 20ft of notice. Guys like Chara would not be allowed to play in the NHL in 2024 whatsoever because any contact will always be head contact even if they follow every single rule to the letter
My only issue is how much distance and the angle he had to determine what would've been the outcome of the hit. Bastian was trying to get away from Kakko, so while maybe not the best skating form, his head was kind of down the whole time. He did bend over more as Rempe came closer, but it's not like Bastian made too drastic of a posture change at the last minute. I know it's easier said than done when adrenaline's high, but 6'7" Rempe had to have known what would've happened had he continued with the check.
Chara got penalized for elbowing a TON and 99% of the time is was due to his height. Rempe here knew what he was doing, he aimed for the head. Not to mention the punches he threw on Siegenthaler without giving him time to drop his gloves. Rempe is the definition of a goon. Not saying it's a bad thing, hockey needs to bring goons back. But trying to argue that there shouldn't be a penalty assessed here is just being naive and silly, cmon
I would tend to agree but the checking player has the bulk of the control of the contact. He's more responsible than he is not responsible. I can see the major but no fine or suspension.
Dirty hit deliberately throws elbow on a fly by ! 5 games minimum what has to happen before the NHL start enforcing these deliberate hits? A player getting is neck broke? Etc
Okay, let's say it's a clean hit. You can heal from sprains and cuts and broken bones. You don't heal so easily from your brain being turned into jello by trauma like this, especially as it compounds over time. Clean or not, this is just incredibly dangerous head trauma. I don't know, it's kind of insane if this sort of stuff is integral to the game.
It's not integral to the game. Hockey has mostly moved on from enforcer focused players but occasionally you'll run into a "Tom Wilson" type of player that will fuck people up bad and largely get away with it. Minor cash fines, a game or two suspension, etc. They usually cool off and stop hitting as hard but they always come right back. The hit itself, Rempe probably didn't want it to be that bad, to his credit. But the kid knew the guy was in a vulnerable position and threw his weight and momentum into his head. People say "his elbow was tucked" but just because you're tall doesn't mean you get to do whatever the fuck you want. It's pretty simple. But people still talk about the "old days" of hockey. The enforcer era, and it was hot trash despite what anyone will tell you. Low level/low IQ hockey that devolves into fights and barely can be called hockey. We've already went through this once and I'll basically just check out if I start seeing stars and good players get concussions because the NHL commission is weak or limp-dicked pussies that can't ref a game properly and let big goons take over.
This tough guy got his remaining brains beat out by Olivier about a month later. He looked like a child in that fight, like he'd never even been in one.
Let's see how many major penalties Rempe has in first 20 games. Then count how many he has injured. He could very easily of not purposely hit that person, there was no need.
Rempe could be a game changer for the Rangers but I don’t think his cognitive ability is robust enough to grasp what he needs to be doing. For those of you of the same ilk, he is a cement head. And he won’t change.
You don’t understand the rule. Primary point of contact does not mean any contact or even initial contact. It means the intended contact. That’s not what o saw he was not targeting the head. Seems like the DoPS saw it that way as well.
He's been bigger than everyone on the ice his whole life and should be able to understand that it does NOT excuse brutal dangerous hits. I heard that so many times with that goof Lurch (Chara) if they can't play with any kind respect for other players they need to go play another sport. Take up MMA or boxing then they fight by size. Being a massive man is no excuse for this crap.
Mats Sundin was 6'5" 235 pounds that was huge in his day. Never took advantage of that by being a goon or taking advantage of smaller players. Rempe is a big tough kid but has no brain with his brawn. There is no place for goonery like that it's senseless and dangerous accomplished nothing but interrupting the game and ruining the rest of it with the BS revenge crap. He wasn't even in the game and still had a negative affect on it. That's just ridiculous. I loved the 70's and 80's hockey as a young man still enjoy a big hit a good scrap. But these days it is simply not acceptable, necessary or reasonable to play that way, the goonery and intentional hits to the head jumping on guys back and beating on them these things need to stop
There's a 6'7" guy barreling down on you. Why would you duck as low as the height of the dasher? Ducking to get a call should be an automatic unsportsmanlike penalty.
WTF its a clean hit, wtf was he supposed to do, just let him pass? He's not even skating fast towards him, and he can't hit anything else than the head cause the guy is bending forward... Is the goalie also supposed to move out of the net to make it easy for him to score? Thats brutal but thats the game... I don't like the Rangers but... there was nothing wrong with that hit.
@@AstoundLikesWoW a- the puck carrier doesn't skate into people, they skate away / around b- the player attempting to hit skates into people, therefore it's on them to be aware c- any player 6'7" needs to be aware of where they will be making contact with the other player d- he did make contact with the head.
He's 6'9" and 255 pounds. How is he supposed to hit when the opponent is ducking down lower than the dasher? This is why the rulebook has exceptions for when the opponent puts themself in a vulnerable position. What's next? Guy skates chin first into Rempe's groin and Rempe gets a head hit penalty? This has gotta stop. Rangers need to step up as an org.
Rempe is going to have this problem a lot. He’s so tall it’s hard not to hit these little dudes high. I feel a little bad for the guy. He’s just trying to play tough hockey, which I like
For people at MSG saying they cheer for him when on the ice says a lot about how bad their team is, how poorly they are managed and play. They are 23rd at the time and will probably miss the playoffs even with one of the best goalie in the world. That player is from another age. He is dumb as it can possibly be. When you cheer for a player like that means a lot about how bad your team is! Keep paying 250$ to see such bad display of game
70s and 80s were trash eras of hockey anyways. 90s were filled with "enforcers" with trash hockey skills. Thank god we moved on. Get this kind of garbage out of the game. Unless we want to go back to the enforcer era of hockey - where there's someone on the ice at all times that sucks at hockey but can throw a hit/punch. Big fucking deal.
Bro shut your mouth its what he saying so you need to learn what respecting means because he didn't ask for that didn't he so shut up and also he likes what he like and you like hat you like have you ever heard of a called option or opinion like think straight.
Time for the NHL to shed their weight of these liabilities. They're not out there to play hockey, they're out there to cause injury. More sport, more talent and less assaults on the ice.
Scott Stevens made a career out of shoulder hits to players. back then it was a clean hit, and no penalties were ever issued. New Jersey use to be the toughest team in the league with the roughest and toughest players. Heck even Martin Brodeur was a tough and fierce goalie. what a totally different team now.
No elbow extended, no jumping, no targeting the head. It sucks but you duck your head and a guy 6'7" checks you with a shoulder that's what's gonna happen. Charging is probably the reasoning which might make that an aggregious hit.
This kid is already a physical menace and it's only a few games in. Reminds me of when the Boogeyman came into the league, huge kid who's looking to go with all the league's tough guys. Guys are gonna lose sleep the night before they play against him.

Get this guy under control before he puts someone in a coma. He's a rookie playing the brand of hockey the league says they don't want but clearly it's getting views so they won't care I guess.
Parts of me love watching it but parts of me wonder what a hit like that on Bedard would look like for his health.... Imagine taking that guy out of the league with a hit from a 6'7 psycho path that'll never leave a mark on hockey other than injuring people and getting beat up by real fighters.
Definite head contact but with Bastian going down like he was, how would one avoid head contact?
Even without the head contact that's 2 for charging. He took one last stride when the guy's back was turned. Increasing your speed as you line up a blindside hit, combined with his imposing size are what make this a dirty play.
Are you fckin kidding me? 🤣
Bastian played hockey, Rempe charged and only Bastian's head get hit. Dirty play
@@topias2880 Didn't see a charge as he never left his feet.
As a kid from NY I loved #22 for the blues hints. Nick didn't fear ANYONE!!
Blue hints? Nic who
Fotiu. Dude was tough.
I would love for him to fight Reaves
Was thinking the same thing. It may happen
Tom Wilson......😊😂😅😮
@frankt285 I'm a Caps fan Tom Wilson is my guy
@@frankt285 Wilson will run away from him faster than he did from Ross Johnston.
Wilson would absolutely pump this kid
His elbow was very clearly up
defending the indefensible
Didnt seem like a malicious hit, just bad timing for Bastian.
ahh Yeah it was charging penalty no debating.
Rempe is soo tall when he keeps his elbow down it's at most players heads.
Imagine if Rempe actually had hockey skills. He’d be awesome.
Ranger fans used to cry their eyes out when Big Bad Dave Brown was wrecking their players. 😂😂😂😂
Let’s go Flyers
Dirty hit deliberately throws elbow on a fly by ! 5 games minimum what has to happen before the NHL start enforcing these deliberate hits? A player getting is neck broke? Etc
That was mid arm not elbow and not shoulder..thing was the follow through with player in vulnerable position
His elbow was tucked. 🤦♂️
This would motivate the devils to still take 58 minutes to score to cut the final to 5-1... hope Bastians okay but that's sad
6 games for elbow to the head? What a chump.
This tough guy got his remaining brains beat out by Olivier about a month later. He looked like a child in that fight, like he'd never even been in one.
..and then Siegenthaler eats a right. lmao
I’m an NJ fan and think this shouldn’t be a match penalty.
Agreed, in box for 2.
Rempes first week in the league and he’s already earned a jersey spot in my place lmfao
Where was the infraction? No elbow, no jump, just a tall guy hitting a short guy
Head is the primary point of contact. Doesn’t matter
You don’t understand the rule. Primary point of contact does not mean any contact or even initial contact. It means the intended contact. That’s not what o saw he was not targeting the head. Seems like the DoPS saw it that way as well.
Are you forgetting his head was down and he was bent over. There wasn’t any intent of maliciousness here.
@@rhythmindset6996 yea, thats not the rule. Putting your head down does not shield you from being hit.
@@rhythmindset6996 wow you delusional it was clearly charging directly at Bastian & no intent maliciousness blind bat much?
penalized for being 6'9
He's been bigger than everyone on the ice his whole life and should be able to understand that it does NOT excuse brutal dangerous hits.
Why is that a penalty? I'm new to this
I feel guilty that im sad i dont get to see jb or rempe in hartford any more.
Should been McLeod
WTF its a clean hit, wtf was he supposed to do, just let him pass? He's not even skating fast towards him, and he can't hit anything else than the head cause the guy is bending forward... Is the goalie also supposed to move out of the net to make it easy for him to score? Thats brutal but thats the game... I don't like the Rangers but... there was nothing wrong with that hit.
No way this is a match penalty. It’s a stretch for a major but Toronto and all the canucks hate the Rangers.
Was it not head contact?
Hardly, but he was skating with his head down into a guy who's 6' 7". He did his best to avoid his head imo
It’s a good thing ur not an official.
@@AstoundLikesWoW
a- the puck carrier doesn't skate into people, they skate away / around
b- the player attempting to hit skates into people, therefore it's on them to be aware
c- any player 6'7" needs to be aware of where they will be making contact with the other player
d- he did make contact with the head.
@@AstoundLikesWoW Rempe did nothing to avoid it. In fact, he had almost 75 feet of ice to cover before making that dirty hit to avoid it.
I bet Rempe will have the most fights in NHL history
That’s a tall order. The NHL is nowhere near the same as it was decades ago. He’ll maybe lead the league in fights for a season.
He will have CTE before too long.
1:35 Pedro laviolette? I didn't realize he changed his first name.
He’s just trying to play tough hockey, which I like
Clean hit. The penalty was brought to you by sports betting.
Nothing clean about it.
That was the right call by the officials.
Holy fuck how was this not a multi game suspension
Agreed
Because it didn't warrant one.... ????? 🤷♂️
i fucking love rempe already
That was a classic Scott Stevens hit. I thought the Devil fans would like it!!
Rempe hit him so hard it broke the skater’s stick.
Odd how New Jersey’s Brendan Smith can break Chicago’s Connor Bedard’s jaw with the exact same hit and not draw a single penalty minute….
Greatest 3 second shift ever
Set the tone
Nice hit. I did watch hockey in the 70s to 90s.
Old and stupid. Nice combo.
keep your head up
Is that what they teach you in yoga class?
This needed to be done to tell these guys “this league might be “men”, but I’m not scared of man”
Time for the NHL to shed their weight of these liabilities. They're not out there to play hockey, they're out there to cause injury. More sport, more talent and less assaults on the ice.
I absolutely love rempe.
When you think about it kind of a suicide pass by Daws to Bastian. When the puck doesn’t get to a player on a breakout cleanly shit happens.
Shit happens? He elbowed the guy in the face. Smh
Rempe is not needed in the league. No hockey skills.
“Clean” hit😂😂
The same type of hits Scott Stevens delivered lol now automatic match penalties
1:05 Crybaby
Rage bait used to be believable
@@Crxnosfr He's literally weeping. Sobbing even, it's pathetic man lmao.
I’ll hit you like that and see how you like it pussy
No elbow extended, no jumping, no targeting the head. It sucks but you duck your head and a guy 6'7" checks you with a shoulder that's what's gonna happen. Charging is probably the reasoning which might make that an aggregious hit.
This kid is already a physical menace and it's only a few games in. Reminds me of when the Boogeyman came into the league, huge kid who's looking to go with all the league's tough guys. Guys are gonna lose sleep the night before they play against him.
I hate rempee for 3 reasons *btw I’m a HUGE islander fan💙🧡*
1. He’s a terrible person
2.Hes a ranger (again I’m a huge isles fan)
3. He beat up one of the isles and mad them miss half the game
This hit looking back difference between small guys playing in the NHL
Rempe is a wrecking machine. Takes one out with a hit and another 2 seconds later with a single punch.
I am 70 years old, a Leaf fan, yes it's real tough. Baun, Brewer, Horton, Shack...come on, this guy's very presence is obvious. His time is near, the bigger they are.......
He brought his fuggin toys!
ua-cam.com/video/xX4_HEQ1hGo/v-deo.html
From what I’ve seen they call penalties on him that they wouldn’t on other players. It sucks the guy got hurt but that was a clean check. It’s not Rempe’s fault the guys head is level with his shoulders.
Wow I see a suspension coming. Min 3 games. And not even regular season. Must be home town announcers. Playing it off like it was the other players fault. Certainly making a name for himself. As the saying goes you live by the sword you die by the sword. He is a scary intimidating charactor. Taken the goon fast track. A big name already.
