There's no time to waste, Charlie. Let's go out there and make people SMILE!
I LOVE KIIIIDS
@@asare240 pip you can’t say that!
1:01 that capo switch is so smooth
James Taylor will never get old. 200 years from now people will be taking a deep breath in a summer afternoon singing along" Carolina on my Mind"
You have that right, his songs are timeless.
Yes!!! Love his music so much🥰
and all us North Carolinians will be singin' along too!!
Im a black 42 yr old guy i still say he's great him and Michael McDonald
That may be my favorite James Taylor song.
He always make his songs sound fresh without losing their original essence, I love myself some James Taylor
I would 100% go see him in concert. He sounds just as good as nearly 50 years ago, maybe just shorter breathed.
Thanks James for everything. You have always brightened things when you appear.
still legendary
Will Lee, Antonio Sanchez, Blue Lou... AND James Taylor!! Just amazing
yes a fine back up band, but, Lee Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Wachtel were incredibly in tune with James at his peak
I'd give the edge to Sklar & Co.
THe Snachez drumming is kinda strange here, hahaha. :)
@@nicetna2010 completed agreed! It’s just always kinda cool to see how other musicians interpretation of the song can completely change the vibe.
One of my all time favorite songs, all time favorite performers and the icing on the cake. An amazing friend since childhood FEATURED in the band. Evan Barker you sounded AMAZING! Not to mention James Taylor.
Evan Barker is my all-time favorite trumpet player!
@@nancybarker1413 That is because you have an excellent ear for music :)
He’s got style and I like it
He’s rivaling Eddie Money
I’m here from smiling friends
We want him to cameo
LOVE! Awesome and groovy as ever. And one of very, very few reasons I'd even consider stepping foot in Las Vegas.
70 years young ans still killing it! A long time ago I played bass in a rock band that had "Fire and Rain" in it's play list. James is a real legend.
I love this man, he sang the musical score to my youth. Bless you.
as James going older the tempo going slower every day... still love you man...
Still rockin’ it, as always, James! I love the improvs and bluesy changes made to songs, it keeps them fresh yet still the same! Keep doing you, James!
Love the way he keeps moving the capo up the neck for the key changes. So cool
BEST show of the year! What a blessing to see this legend do so many songs on my favorite show!
I love James so much, considering a visit to Vegas to see his residency now!
WOW! He looks happy , energetic & healthy!. I love his performance. I'm happy and smiling while watching this. I want to hug him.
His music touches my soul.
I just wish for one time that he would sing it live like how he did it on the original recording. That take had so so much groove and energy, straight up.
There's a live version from 1988 here on youtube. Check it out it's absolutely legendary. Better than the studio version I know.
You have to remember the man is nearly 80 years old and has been singing for years and years. His voice is gonna change, he slightly weaker and he won't have the lung capacity he once had. I don't care, it's James Taylor and he will always sound amazing to me and I'll cherish every day we have him alive, well and singing.

Well said.
I still remember exactly where I was when I first heard this song - back so long ago in High School!! Cannot wait to see him in concert in Austin next week!!
I stayed up till 1:30 in the morning last night just to watch him perform. I don’t know why it was so delayed where I live, but it was so worth it, thank you James! ❤️
The minstrel of my lifetime. Love you James.
Always an incredible talent. Superb voice and wonderful presence. Awesome!!!
Jaaaaames! True love since 1972.
LIVING LEGEND! and definitely my favorite song from him
Oh snap that's Blue Lou on sax!
Is that Mr. Wonderful too?
russell zauner unfortunately, Mr Fabulous passed in 2011 😢
We get to hear him a lot in Spain, I think his wife’s from here.
He's still got it! Adapted to his current chapter of life, but still with such heart, funk, and groove! He simply can't do a bad version of this song!
When i hear this song it really makes me SMILE because of happines remeniscing my high school days singing this classic song of JT with my classmates. Now its 2024 and im 61y.o. This song by JT is still a hit and for sure a treasure for me.Tnx JT.
Amazing. Then, now & always !! James is the best !
Brings me back to the '70's. I love James Taylor.
I really love this song..thank you James..
forever James Taylor fan! This Song has been on my top list of good vibes song :-)
Still got it after all these years. Still amazing. Seeing JT in concert is on my bucket list
@James Taylor wow! I grew up with you
I'd love to know more. See you there!
Wish I could like that more than once. Watching this reminded me of a woman I dated a long time ago that I hadn't thought of in years. She played some James Taylor while we were having coffee on a Sunday afternoon and I have enjoyed his music since.
Timeless song!😍 one of my influence ever since!
I've been listening to your music since before I could read.
WOW! all the great musicians in this set. Lou Marini from the Blues Brothers Band; from Bob's Country Bunker to Las Vegas, he got a good gig!
I JUST TIME TRAVELLED!!! ;)
I agree I saw him in concert in Norfolk Virginia, summer of 1977
Yes, my favorite JT song!
I had such a huge crush on James Taylor when I was young-I got his first album for my 16th birthday.
I absolutely love that he goes on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. LOTR and James Taylor, two of my favorites.
Love the horns!
Never ever gets old!
Feel good music🥰
You're always the biggest !! I always follow you and wait for your return to Italy. A hug
Will Lee playing a Yamaha bass. Awesome
nice...Bless him.
Legend!
This man tuning his guitar and moving the capo mid-song. What a badass
urgh. i just so love his voice.
Just Knocking Around the Zoo, James!!! Love to you!
It's the same person, same sound, same perfect rhythm. He just looks so much happier these days!
James' da man!
still has that charming voice
Wow!
That capo change though, wow
Sei sempre il più grande!! Ti seguo da sempre e aspetto il tuo ritorno in Italia. Un abbraccio
I pray for your good health, James. Take good care!
Is that the bass player from David Letterman? I miss Paul and the band!
Will Lee sure, but what about Bernie Williams on the guitar! Yeah.... :)
So F’ing great. That would be an awesome show to see.
I'VE DJ WEDDINGS FOR 26 YEARS. THIS ALONG WITH OTHERS OF JT'S SONGS I LOVED PLAYING. AND THIS WOULD TOWARDS THE END DINNER WOULD ALWAYS GET THE CROWD BOUNCING
Ow. 💗
That bass player has dance moves!
LOVE LOVE LOVE JT❤❤❤
You may not recognize him. The alto sax player is Brother Lou in The Blues Brothers. :)
For the complainers:
Not off pitch at all and sounds like someone was trying to fix a monitor lag in the background. Happens a lot that something gets out of sync or a bit off - that room is super reflective surfaces, too. Makes it a bit hot and squirrely for the sound guy. Doppler-type effects are what's responsible for a lot of perceived pitch andor timing issues on our end (where it sounds fine to the vocalist but doesn't match by the time it reaches the target's perspective), but that wasn't the case here; I think some people mistake an evolved voice for pitchy or weak. Good job keeping it together like a pro - if you pay attention it's like one of every 5 or 10 performances you watch you'll see someone fiddle with or actually take out their IEM and he just basically ignored it and kept adjusting realtime. After you start paying attention to the mechanics of modern live performances those failure modes start to become pretty easy to bust apart and categorize. It doesn't take long and anyone can learn, it's not some privileged domain or exoterica just a few minutes here and there trying to see not just what's going on but how it is happening. Anyhow.
Can't wait to get a busload of people together and head over to Vegas and see the program. Thanks to Colbert et al for publishing this and sharing it with us.
Nice one Will Lee xx
The great Will Lee right there!
Wow, I just discovered this song on sporcle and I had no idea this was considered a classic song lol
Mr. Colbert you always have the best and coolest musical acts! So such respect!!
Blue Lou AND Will?!! Awesome song and band...go JT!
never thought James Taylor and Blackpink would perform on the same stage
I'm not saying he and Mark Knopfler should do another track or two, but he and Mark Knopfler should totally do another track or two.
This is obviously played live. And it‘s phenomenal. The drummer is dragging. (I put it through a beat recognition system confirming it.) James‘ acoustic guitar isn‘t audible. Yet the whole thing fits together perfectly and you can say it‘s James Taylor blindly - not just because of the unique voice.. What‘s more, it‘s entertaining on a highest level.
t-bone!
Former NY Yankee Bernie Williams on Guitar.
they're literally not in the same tempo
Voice just as good as it was... amazingly upbeat!
Is that Will Lee on bass from Letterman's band ?
WOW!!!
Uncle Will!!!!
I guess he knew his way around the building. Very cool to see him back on The Late Show.
Yes it is Will Lee!
Yes it is Will Lee!
Jazz drummer, Antonio Sanchez, who plays with Pat Metheny and Will Lee on bass. Interesting. Must have picked up a band while in NY for this show.
Pure sunshine! 💖
is the saxophonist Lou Marini? that of the Blues Brothers?
Really like JT's work but that Trumpet player in the background knocked it out of the park!!!!
The trumpet player was good but horribly out of tune. :'( It's hard on a live performance.....
Yes he did! That's my boy -- I'll have to send him this. He'd like it!
'
Please perform Mexico
Slow it down James😀💜✌🙏
WILL LEE IS THE FUCKING MOOD
💞😍🇺🇸
When I was 1 my mom choose this song
Blue Lou Marini!
if you were not a fan of james taylor before, you still wont be
the bassist kick his ass as he play..
Mr Will Lee on bass. ...
Me and Daltons song!
Whenever I see your smiling face
I have to smile myself
Because I love you, yes, I do
And when you give me that pretty little pout
It turns me inside out
There's something about you, baby
I don't know
Isn't it amazing a man like me
Can feel this way
Tell me how much longer
It could grow stronger every day
Oh, how much longer?
I thought I was in love a couple of times
Before with the girl next door
But that was long before I met you
Now I'm sure that I won't forget you
And I thank my lucky stars
That you are who you are
And not just another lovely lady
Sent down to break my heart
Isn't it amazing a man like me
Can feel this way
Tell me how much longer
It could grow stronger every day
No one can tell me that I'm doing wrong today, whenever I see you smile at me
No one can tell me that I'm doing wrong today
Whenever I see your smiling face my way
No one can tell me that I'm doing it wrong today
No one can tell me that I'm doing it wrong today
How did he get ll cool j in his band. Thats real legend sh*t
Antonio sanchez on drums?? What?? Guess JT loves jazz
Dam I'm getting old
