      why spend $11 at McDonald's I can spend $7 at Wendy's, or $13 at Freddy's.
      When you are squeezed at both sides by competition that is either cheaper or better tasting, you're in trouble.

      True, here in Australia the last time I went to Macca's I got a strawberry thickshake, I mean how can you go wrong err right? Nope!!, it was a toxic mess tasting more like a bunch of over flavoured chemicals than a nutritious milkshake/thickshake. I had no choice but to eventually throw it out. LOL When I went home I even poured half the shake out & tried adding extra plain milk to try & fix it but it was still undrinkable. Over the last 12 months i've been back 2 other times & to a different store as well & it still tastes exactly the same, it's now a running joke within the our family as all of us have had the exact same reaction to it. Why anyone buys it is a complete mystery to me. Then there's the cheeseburger that's gone up from $2 to $5.10 but it's not worth eating either as most times it's either drowning in sauce or as dry as a bone. After making burgers for 40 plus years they should be the masters of their trade, experts at making burgers taste good at a good price but instead there meals get nastier with each passing year. Now it's only the soft serve that tastes any good & is still worth eating. Oh & don't get me started on how they ruined their fries(which used to be the best) to the soggy things they are today. They need to go back to basics & work on making the flavour the most important thing, and then work on price after when they got the taste right. Then they should get their big wigs to eat there each & every week & ask get them to rate the food every time they do & ask them "would you buy this stuff?" Look if the flavour improves it means the value has improved too. Good food is worth paying a bit more for, but with the food tasting the way it is now(cheap & nasty) it's poor value at any price point. Make better tasting food and the people will be back in droves. If not it'll be a slow march to an inevitable bad end.

      @@MrJugNut yeah I live in Australia too and it's shocking how bad maccas has gotten here. The burgers look like they were made by 10 year olds. And they even charged me $8 for 2 hamburgers. Hamburgers are only meant to be $2 so they effectively stole from me.
      So if they can't convince you to buy their overpriced items, they'll overcharge "steal" you on their cheap items and offer you a mymaccas voucher in return. Like no dude, I want my $4 back

    Stupid corporate greed is the reason. 15 years ago in my country McDonalds felt clean, food was well made and sufficient in quantity for what it is, prices were not cheap but not very expensive either. Now their restaurants are dirty, food quantity has decreased, quality has dramatically decreased and prices have gone up in relative terms.... so how do you expect people to pay as much as they do in good restaurant to eat less and lower quality food in a dirty place......
    I see this greed in many places where value to the customer is attacked head on to raise margins and it ends up in smoke and flames. Right now we live in an epoch of unprecedented corporate earnings and sky high stock valuations. Margins in these big corporations are through the roof. Companies are releasing personnel like crazy to lower cost (oh and product quality and value). It is not going to end well. Like McDonalds many will go in flames.

    very simple: the quality continually decreases becoming even unhealthier, less tasty, thinner and smaller portions, all the while exponentionally increasing in price. there is zero reason to buy a flavourless plastic burger from a mega corp when you can get a healthy sandwich at a local shop for the same price

  • @tygrataps
    @tygrataps 2 місяці тому +5

    One of the biggest factors that I've seen discussed elsewhere: the franchisers are getting squished- badly. On one hand, with having a single supplier for food, paper supplies, rent, and repair McDonalds corp is becoming more and more expensive. On the other hand, while wages aren't keeping pace with inflation, they continue to grow up. Those two factors lead to decreasing margins on the local level making it harder and harder to stay in business. Corporate really doesn't need to care who owns the fanchise as long as the footprint is maintained, and there is always a new sucker to fill that spot. But what happens when you run out of suckers? A MCD franchise has been seen as a surefire way to print money for a very long time but has been losing its luster in the last couple of years.
