Seattle Pipe Club has crammed Plum Pudding into a Nicaraguan cigar! Does it work? does it taste anything like the pipe blend?

The Arturo Fuente Curlyhead with a maduro wrapper was my go-to cigar for many years. They were high-quality cigars at a great price. It's been ages since I've had one.

'Cheroot' kentucky cigars or 'quick smoke cigars' like the ones Clint Eastwood smokes in spaghetti westerns are the pipe's smokers cigar. They have a different taste profile than standard cigars, kind of aromatic and bold but are delightful to smoke, and they look like literal sticks. 'Toscano' is a well known quality brand. I was all for trying this cigar when they came out, but I'm getting the sense these were a marketing ploy, and if a pipe smoker can't detect any plum pudding then what's the point. Good review though, looks like a lovely day where you're at. Thanks for the review!

I highly recommend a CAO Brazilia cigar or a Montecristo Medianoche. They are my favorite cigars. I'm not sure if you do soft drinks but an Ice cold Coca cola goes great with the Brazilia.

Although I mostly like maduros, I also like good habanos and probably my favorite cigar of all is a cheap habano from the PDR value line, to me the quintessential cigar.

Enjoyed the same but honestly I got zero PP throughout. The last half did give off stronger sour notes at which point I thought ok here is where it begins but alas just a decent cigar to the last nub...nothing to go WOW! over....in that regard a major disapointment on my part. Also i did get my teeth covered in a sort of silky film to the point i had to brush them after. Wierd. Not sure if it was casing or what but certainly a first from a cigar for me. Was actually waiting for you to comment the same Bradly...guess not ... maybe it was just me? Glad I just bought 2 instead of a full box. Anyhow great vid as always! Cheers! 🍻🍺🍻

No film for me, and mine was sour at the start and got less so as I smoked it. Cheers!

Perhaps I'll buy one of these to make pipe mud. I've never had a cigar with that flavor profile.

i've had two of these cigars at this point. One was transcendental, one was meh. I wonder if because adding pipe tobacco into a cigar is somewhat unconventional (not that it hasn't been done before) that it makes the quality control funny from stick to stick? Like of course there is already a level of variability in any natural product so i wonder if this is just like another new variable that hasn't been perfected by manufacturers yet. The idea seems rather promising though.

Hey Bradley, maybe give us an update on a Sunday show as to how the cigar smoked down, I'm curious since cigars tend to change a lot in flavour as they burn. I can't remember a cigar where I had a strong sour note (citrus on some for sure, but not sour) in the first third, it usually happens on the last third and it signals me it's time to put it down.

I’m not a big cigar guy but did grab a few of the SPC Plum Pudding “ Toro” cigars, I had one and wasn’t a fan at all. I heard they also have “Robusto” which might be better but for now I’ll stick to S”ing my pipe! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Bradley

I’ve not looked up the cigar but from what you described it would be a Nicaraguan Cuban seed cigar probably made like a Cuban sandwich I’d guess. People describe Cuban cigars as having a Cuban tang and Nicaraguan has its own Cuban like profile but it’s more bold to me. Wrapper and binder would overpower filled or at least take the driver’s seat in a robusto. Let us know how it ended up B!

Is it long leaf filler, or chopped Plum Pudding filler?

They list the contents as "Nicaraguan and Plum Pudding." Make of that what you will!

Bradley, are you sure there really is pipe tobacco in the cigar? Knowing how hand-rolled cigars are made, and knowing how pipe tobacco is blended, I can't really imagine how they could successfully bring it off. This may be way off base, but is it possible that Sutliff simply contracted with a cigar producer and had a band made with "Plum Pudding" on it? In short, it's named for the pipe blend...and that's it. Just a thought.

Dunbarton makes some cigars that have a mix of cigar leaf and pipe leaves. They just put some virginia, latakia, or perique leaves in the bunch.

They're sold under the Stillwell Star line.

Everything I've read lists the contents as "Nicaraguan" and "Plum Pudding tobacco blend." I doubt the proportion of PP would be very large though.

Be careful you'll rip the wrapper leaf
