From sutliff-tobacco.com: "Henry Sutliff opened the first of his shops back in 1849 in San Francisco on Kearny Street. This fine mixture of Sweet Virginia and Spicy Perique is in commemoration of the founding of America’s oldest pipe tobacco company."
As always sir Bradley, a very intuitive and thorough review.
Excellent review as always Bradley. Congrats. I liked it very much. Thanks a lot.
Bradley, on behalf of The Gentlemen's Pipe Smoking Society (Facebook group) I am extending an invitation for you to join. Many of us enjoy your reviews.
I'll try to check it out!
Great as always, like the inset pricing image on the screen too. I do miss the green or brown backdrop though!
Another great review. Thanks!
I love the videos man, great quality stuff. I recently got back into pipe smoking after watching some of your videos haha. Picked up an H.I.S. Italia pipe, thing smokes like a dream.
Glad to have you on board!
I have a tin of this in my cellar. I can't wait to try it.
Right on the analytical art, thanks!
Great review, as always. I have yet to find a VAPer blend I like as much as Elizabethan. I know I sound like a broken record, but you really need to try Shandygaff. Not a VAPer, but I really like what the perique brings to the party in that blend.
I'll try to remember to add it to my wishlist.
Tried this last year in a cob. Didn't like it much. Put it up and came back to it 6 months or so later with a briar and it was fantastic! I'll probably get another tin, open it, jar it and let it sit for some months before enjoying.
I'd love to see you review more Mclelland blends. Specifically St. James Woods and Dark Star which is probably the most unique Virginia I've smoked.
Michael Handel Yes please!
Did you ever come up with the possible replacement for Elizabethan Mixture? Thanks.
You should review Warhorse bar tobacco (red) !
....sounded like Borkum Riff Original Mixture description, (chocolate, prune, and fruity notes) ...hmm, Great review Bradley...📬🌰😊☕
I’ve heard that this was produced specifically for an all day smoke. Pretty much a middle of the road va/per with just enough flavor and subtleness to keep your attention a bit, but nothing overwhelming in it to really wow you. A bit high priced in my opinion for what it is.
Always a treat Bradley, great review and can't wait for the next. Also not to be a bother but just wondering if you might be open to reviewing Peterson's 3 P's was enjoyable for me and is different then alot I have seen out there. Thanks so much - DBarr
I'll certainly keep it in mind!
Do you ever share your review template?
you should try the RO series Acadian VaPer it is a vaper where the Virginia has gone through the same fermenting process as the perique. I find it to be excellent
I'll put it on my list!
I have enjoyed every bowl I have smoked of it so far. the only issue you might have is that it is sold on pipesandcigars.com and I'm not sure if available elsewhere.
STUFFandTHINGS Bradley try golden triangle five pack set at PC it's about eighty dollars for all five with a tin of St. James perique.
you must review G.L. Pease Cumberland! The best i've ever smoked!
Hi Bradley:
I have a question, how do you decide what tobacco to smoke in which pipe? Is there a "mechanical" side to it, meaning ribbon cut in one type of pipe, flake or cake tobacco in another type of pipe etc? or is it a rotation of pipes? The reason I am asking is that when I watch your videos, occasionally I see the Peterson, Costello, but hardly your Dunhill..
I just use a strict rotation. A few bowls in one pipe, and then it's time to switch to the next, and on down the line. I smoke the Dunhill just as much as all my others.
I agree, even though it's a mild smoke and I enjoyed it, it burns my tongue when drinking something cold with it. A weird tongue bite, and I don't recommend this blend; there are better ones out there which satisfies and don't bite weirdly. I heard someone write in a review that it has a cardboard aftertaste. I agree on that, but it didn't put me off too much. Not recommended anyway.
I gave it a try a while back. From what I recall it wasn't anything complex and didn't really have a wow factor. I wasn't turned off by it, but it's not one I stocked up on.
Currently I'm puffing on Hearth and Home's Anniversary Kake. Have you reviewed this blend? I can't recall. I do know SmokingPipes from time to time has it in 2oz tins even though it's a P&C blend.
Yep, I felt pretty much the same. Haven't reviewed Anniversary Kake yet.
I don't recall and I think there's a shipping issue to you, have you ever reviewed Seattle Pipe Club Deception Pass? probably going to say that's my favorite vaper then Elizabethan before I get to full Virginia blends
Nope. I definitely need to get to that eventually.
Would you say this is a good way to get into VaPers???
Why pipe/model were you smoking that out of? Excellent review
A Peterson Sterling Silver shape 68.
Hello Dear mister Bradley, hope you feel now well, thanks again for your enjoyable and professional review which as always, makes things clear once and for all. Based on this info I couldn't help remembering our mutual work out on Carter Hall tobacco
which brought up something similar sentations, now based on the review info I may see this blend as a good intro to sweet Va Per genre or being suggested for those who are seeking for a simply and basic all day blend at affordable ?price, perhaps I must give this a try and order it later at smokingpipes, com. All Right,so much for my comments, and Now Have a nice coming weekend,Chat later, Paul (ps,remember that Amph Org Brown in some future)
I don't think there'e any harm in giving it a try. You may end up enjoying it. Cheers!
Very nice review Bradley and I like sutliff tobacco and it sounds very nice I'm going to try it Bradley I've brought a tobacco called " briar Fox" it's a crumble cake I was wondering if you tried it or reviewed it it's buy C&D if you get it to review let me know Bradley thanks ☺☺☺☺. best regards Peter.
I haven't tried it yet, but I'll certainly keep it in mind!
Well, I think this one can be stored in the "Meh" queue- for a potential "Hey, I need one more to make the free shipping"
Definitely a "meh" blend for me.
That blister on your left hand just doesn't quit, does it Bradley....not being a lefty I'm wondering at it's origin....can't be at the range as you probably hold with your right and wrap with your left....certainly not the pipe.....maybe cycling handlebar friction?
Good review btw....
It's healed! There's just a bit of a scar left now which the camera seems to accentuate.
Is there ay chance that I would like the smell/taste of pipe tobacco or cigars considering the fact that I think cigarette smoke smells awful?
Possibly. I don't think Pipes or cigars smell much like cigarettes.
Can I recommend all my tobacco?
You certainly may.
what is the best tobacco?
Depends on what you like. My favorite everyday blend is Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture.
STUFFandTHINGS just ask like someone who never try anything that cheap dunhill now I smoke home made tobacco from my garden
👍
I'm a sucker for nice handwriting, and yours looks very nice (from this distance). Maybe not everyone 'needs' to have this (in this day and age, blahblah), but for me it's a sign of refinement, and of self-worth. So, good on ya, mate.
By the by, practicing to improve one's handwriting must not be difficult, expensive, or time consuming. Start with a good quality 2B pencil, an occasion/excuse to write something down each day, a bit of concentration and straight posture while doing so; will do you good in no time at all.
Sounds like every other Sutliff blend. Not terrible but not great.
I really enjoy the sutliff crumble cake vaper and english#1.
DO YOU HAVE FACEBOOK?
I don't have a Facebook account for the channel as of yet.
Thanks again Bradley...great reviews...By the way, has this been vetted and approved? ua-cam.com/video/HppB6XSDHgM/v-deo.html
I've seen it. I'm not too worried about it as it seems geared towards French-speakers, hasn't been monetized, and mentions the channel in the description.
I saw "Sutliff" in the title and that was all I needed to know. Many a disgusting bulk aromatic comes from their hands. Between them and Lane, they give pipe tobacco a bad name. I too thought maybe they were actually stepping up to the plate with something serious with this blend. Sadly, your largely tepid reaction to 1849 comes as no surprise.
Didn't hate it, but didn't love it either.
STUFFandTHINGS Some considerations for future reviews that you will most likely enjoy moreso than dislike:
Samuel Gawith Balkan flake
Samuel Gawith Golden glow
McClelland Blackwoods flake
GL Pease Meridian
Peterson's Perfect Plug
Rattray's Red Rapparee
Cornell & Diehl Sunday Picnic
After smoking English blends and one VaPer (Escudo) for decades, and then a three decade pipe smoking hiatus, I returned to pipe smoking last summer. Strangely (age, change in body pH?), I found myself drawn to aromatics. Smoked Sutliff's Maple Street and Molto Dolce until I found their Barbados Plantation. De gustibus non est disputandum, and all that, but there's nothing inherently wrong with Sutliff Tobaccos.....
