52 Hours on a Long-Distance Train - California Zephyr

  • A few years ago, I took my first long-distance train trip across the US. Amtrak's California Zephyr connects Chicago to San Francisco, crossing the Mississippi River, rolling across hundreds of miles of farmland, and traversing both the Rockies and the Sierra Nevadas with desert in between.
    It's slow travel and can be prone to delays but the point of such a trip is the journey, not especially the destination. For me, it was a perfect way to decompress and see parts of the country I hadn't seen before...it left me wanting to see more.
    Particularly true of the desert and canyons. I had completely underestimated how cool it was, how vibrant and interesting both the colors and geography were, and how much I'd want to explore more.

    Wow, it is pretty remarkable all that you were able see. Very impressive footage. I may at some point in my life consider such a trip…but only maybe, lol. Thanks for sharing!
