Strict parents create rebellious teenagers, had they been a bit more flexible with her upbringing, maybe she wouldn't have gone so wild? Instead they tried to suppress her more and shove her into a box to force her to act a certain way by going to these "schools" in the middle of nowhere. That's.... A lil bit whack to me

She needed help just not that kind. Children should't be treated this way. Unfortunately most children's state run mental health units aren't much better these days. Was one of the things I could have sworn I heard along with I like dogs better than people. She meant it. I've met a few people like this and as I've gotten older I'm definitely becoming one of these people as well. We tend to be people who've been traumatized and used by other individuals and so you don't trust people. This was a common practice with a lot of troubled youth because you couldn't locate them until it was night time and they finally came home and got back in their bed at 3:00 AM. If you gave them an opportunity to find out that you were going to be sending them to an addiction treatment unit, they would have ran. Had friends who did exactly that and they never went home.

@@Lara-xu3yc If I had to guess, her family seems to exhibit this pattern where they treat one child as the "incompetent one," and through acting out their beliefs (from both sides), it continually reinforced her role as a child. Actually, Dr. Honda talks a lot about this when he reacted to Nicole from 90 day fiance.
In my own family, I've had little bits of this (I was called the troublemaker, the liar, the bad one, etc), but it was never super bad. But whenever I see it in other places (Like when I see my friends being treated that way by their family), I immediately recognize it and I feel so bad for the person being treated like a child, even though we're full grown adults.
I believe Paris was to the school as a result of these beliefs. As a socialite family, her parents probably had way more strict expectations of her, and no duh, she's going to rebel. But instead of seeing that as normal teenage rebellion, albeit facilitated by money and connections , they see her as a "troubled teen" and forced really extreme measures on her, without understanding the consequences. Makes me think of how rosemary kennedy was treated a little bit.
On top of that, the internet wasn't as accessible in those days and there was probably no way for her parents to really research provo canyon. they prob just picked up a brochure that it made sound like fun camp times and they took it on its word.

I always ask people this. Native American women are way more likely to go missing or be killed than any other race. But how many high profile missing/murder cases can you think of that involves a woman/girl who is not white? America simply reacts with more passion and emotion when it’s a lovely white girl like JonBenet Ramsey or Madeline McCann. But if a girl named Aisha Johnson or Christina Whitefeather comes up on the news (if they even bother to do so), people generally shrug it off.

Lloyd Collins you ought to watch the doc, dork. She was raped. She’s been very deeply wounded in her life. How do you miss this? Do all men gloss over everything to make it about the pursuit of money? People only pursue money, beyond the need for shelter, clothes, and food, as a substitute for human connection, feeling less alone in the world. I believe most people would trade all earthly possessions for genuine human connection if they had the choice. Wake up.

Has Good Why all the man-hate and name calling? I love Paris and think she’s awesome! And I was actually complimenting her savvy as a business-person. Sexual Assault is almost worse then murder...i get that. But SHE decided to become famous, SHE created the ‘Paris’ image we all know. So people will respond to this creation she invented. Marilyn Monroe, Goldie Hawn, Pamela Anderson all did this too! I’d bet Paris would agree with my assessment...it’s a character!

🌈❤️🌈Abuse is going on right now at these “schools” we need to shut them down. We need help to do that. The experiences Paris has at these places is not an abnormality it was the truth. We all have the same experiences. We all have cptsd from our experiences. We all struggle to keep from being in abusive relationships. All kids need to be saved from these places which started out as a cult. She is not alone. I’m glad she is talking about it. I’m glad that finally we can tell our stories. They are so unbelievable no one wanted to believe when we got out. I went to Elan School in Poland Springs Maine. It was run by a mobster who had no training on working with kids and shouldn’t have been allowed to open a school like that. He paid off the Maine department of children and families he paid off anyone who raised an eyebrow. The current governor of Maine and one of the Senators of Maine was complicit in the corruption. The state looked the other way because that 1 school provided the state with 1.5 million in taxes every year since the 70s. The state had to call Joe Ricci to do an inspection and also warned him through the newspaper about a week before it happened. Just enough time to cover everything up that was going on there. We were abused. All of us!! Help us to get these terrible places shut down so no other child has to suffer these abuses!!

Psychology In Seattle as one of the women in the film and with her- this is speculation. My thoughts are that when you are traumatized, told you are worthless, a « piece of sh*y » etc over and over as adolescent while your personality is being integrated- put a façade together and present that. It is safer than you true self. When/if your façade is judged rejected.. *you* are safe. You can protect yourself. Additionally, you can see her voice change when she is nervous.

Her family is a narcissistic family and functions as that with Nicky favoured whereas Paris tends to buck against them hiding their imperfections/injustices. And their family of structural dysfunction with emphasis on reputation vs authenticity, feels growing up her identity is lost and her reality misrepresented. There's so much generational trauma, it spills over. She's incredibly brilliant but misunderstood.

Mistiquely Stealth and you know what? You overcame the trauma after it stopped, what you seem to have learned is how to live with and manage the concept of the acceptance that it happened, that it happens, that It shouldn’t, that it was in no way your fault, that knowing this is also a scary reality, because it teaches us that there are very palpably, things out of our control. But, you don’t have to control any of that, you’d not even need to control you, just managing the impulses that specific thoughts give you. Because we all have to learn to manage which thoughts to give attention to, and which thoughts can exist, pass through, and move on the new thoughts. It really is a matter of editing, in a way, what we choose to give attention to. It’s not at you ever repress, or ignore or pretend these thoughts don’t exist, no, not at all. Let the thoughts exercise their right to exist like any other thought. We just have to make sure we give power to thoughts that make us feel good about ourselves. The other thoughts have a perfect right to exist, and honestly, should, but they can sit in the backyard, and be used as a planter, or for something else, or can just be. They can’t hurt us. We have to fill the tank of the car before it can be driven. We don’t walk around filling the gas tank of every car we see, but we also don’t deny it’s right to exist. Good for you. You don’t have to be a perfect person, you only need to manage the thoughts. But this is truly the challenge of every human being, through your trauma, you were forced into understanding this ina very profound way, which means, without even trying, you will affect people, touch people, change their perceptions. You are a force of good in the world, because of how you responded to the bad that was inflicted against you. There are no perfect people. And there would be no point to this “human experience” there were. You are an inspiration.

Dear Dr, do you pick up on family scapegoating, family symptom bearer, 🐐 empathy deficiency in the mom, 🥶shaming blaming bullying behaviour disorders in parents? The way she was treated as a child stinks 😷 of identified patient or identifying PARIS as the DescriptionIdentified patient is a clinical term often heard in family therapy discussion. It describes one family member in a dysfunctional family who expresses the family's authentic inner conflicts. OR THE The identified patient - also called the "symptom-bearer" or "presenting problem" - may display unexplainable emotional or physical symptoms, and is often the first person to seek help, perhaps at the request of the family. OR The term 'scapegoat' refers to a family member who takes the blame for difficulties in the family. Scapegoating is a form of bullying. Scapegoats are repeatedly subjected to belittling, humiliation, abandonment, betrayal and outright hatred by family members, who make them the 'bad guy'. The lyrics for song at end go... come home in the morning light
My mother says, "When you gonna live your life right?"
Oh mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
And girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

As an insomniac mom of 2 young boys, I can tell you right now that sleep is precious. When I have to exist on just 3/4 hours, I function poorly. I need at least 3 cups of coffee to just make it through the day, but can’t drink it past 3pm if I expect to get to sleep that night. You feel like a runaway train. I already have ADHD, and I can feel the effects that lack of sleep have on my level of function. Also, you have much less patience. You will forget things, lose things, and you’ll feel like you overdid it when you’ve hardly been productive. It isn’t surprising that Paris seems to be surrounded by unorganized chaos if she isn’t sleeping.

I wonder if her sister might also be misinterpreting catastrophizing. Throughout the documentary, Paris expresses discomfort with feeling a lack of control (over others, over her situation, etc) and while running the risk of reading too much into it, I think it's possible that what Nicole is perceiving as simply being a drama queen and making a big deal out of nothing is Paris catastrophizing when something (even relatively minor) goes wrong. It's a form of cognitive dysfunction strongly associated with trauma, anxiety, and depression that can make an individual inflate the severity of a situation so that their response to the stressor seems over-the-top from an outside perspective. If you mix that into a lifestyle that is severely overbooked and chronically underslept, it would only exacerbate things.
