As a kid I saw a STP oil treatment help speed up the idle on a very worn Ford tractor. As for the cooling issue, the are cooling system flushes to clean it out. Cheers.
We're going to have to give it a proper strip down and overhaul. We'll give everything a proper flush then.
Lawrie it's great to c the tractor going and your fire engine working and the mr2 going well
Things are looking up!
Hope you're enjoying the adventure!
Dear me, NEVER put bricks beneath a car / tractor / truck / whatever. When it breaks (which it did) you are screwed. ALWAYS use wooden bars!
We're generally using bricks with a final wooden layer. We're trying not to move what's bricked up too much either to avoid breakage!
Love the T-Bar MR2. Always wanted one. Used to have a Nissan 100nx T-Bar which was great, then skipped to a MK2.5 MX5. But still have a soft spot for the MK1 & MK2 MR2's.
Oh the Nissan is quite a cool car too.
I thought about getting a mk1 mx5 before I got the first Mr2, but ended up going down this road instead. Which I don't regret cause they're awesome cars.
I'm a big fan of mx5's though super fun cars!
A good tip I saw the other day for filters to make it less messy is to use like a good awl or something and poke a hole in the bottom/side of it to drain it first since you're replacing it anyway. And you can stab it in the side all the way through to use as a wrench to turn it.
Oh that's not a bad idea thanks!
I look forward to Thursday evenings because it means it’s Lawrie time!
We're pleased to be of service! Glad you're enjoying it!
The hunting issue with the international is likely to be a split diaphragm in the back of the injector pump its quite a common issue for them to split and then start hunting. If it gets to bad then the tractor will run away from you and you’ll struggle to shut it down. We had a b250 run away from us after the diaphragm had split
I thought that was the issue, but I replaced the diaphragm, and it still hunts.... So back to square one
There's been a further development with the international, but you'll have to wait till the next what's broken now!
The rebuilt starter on the loco sounds like an absolute beast. Very impressive sounds indeed...
It's quite a clunk when it goes! It's one of my favourite noises at the moment!
@@lmm I bet it is after the original unit grenaded itself...
It's been rebuilt to how it was originally. Just waiting for it to grenade itself again...
@@lmm Well, give it another 60 or so years...
Hopefully yes!
I'm hoping she'll just behave from here on in!
11:03 that car in the back garden needs to be saved!
It's a lovely Morris Minor. I've often thought how much it would like to be in the shed... And I do want a moggy..
wheel wobble on international tractors is very coman and shouldn't worry too much about it. The 35 is a great little tractor (we have a 4 cylinder version) if your going to patch the inner tube I wouldn't bother, you would be better off buying new tires and tubes together and save time and in the long run save a few quid. Great video guys keep up the great work👍
The wheel wobble is quite disastrous at speed unfortunately, so it'll need to be addressed, good to know its a common fault though!
I was thinking of keeping the 'slicks' on the back of the 35 for a smoother ride on the road!
How much is a new pair?
And thank you, glad you're enjoying it!
@@lmm The prices can range for tires, the cheapest place maybe you're local tyre fitting company. Usually they are about £200 a tyre depending on the branding/quality of the tyres. Hope this helps.
Thank you! I'll have a look around.
you two make me so happy
Glad you're enjoying what we do!
The reason the dodge has an orange undercoat is originally when new they had the Dayglow Livery, similar to Lancashire, so its been painted over with the usual red.
Oh is that why?
Thanks for the information
Invest in a Milwaukee impact gun set, my big Bertha will pull the truck wheels like a F1 team, it really is quite scary.
As for the tyres a couple of large sized tyre levers and a strategically placed sledge to pop the bead should work wonders
I think we may well have to invest in an impact gun set, and yes plan for the weekend is just that! Those tires will come off!
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels FIRE!!!!! Or careful levering.,...... or FIRE
Oh I do like fire....
The issue with the MR2 dying when it's cold and the revs drop sounds very much like a fault with the cold fast idle system. Fuel injected vehicles don't have a choke like carb vehicles do so they raise the idle speed until the engine starts to warm up to prevent cold running issues. The most common part to fail on them tends to be the coolant temperature sensor that provides the signal that instructs the system to boost idle speed and, usually, fuel volume, so I would suggest starting with that as the temperature sender units do tend to be a regular replacement item and usually pretty cheap. Some of the clattering, judging from the noises on the test run, could well be blown baffles in the silencer. I suspect someone in the past has enjoyed it perhaps a little too much and blown out a fairly cheap replacement part so it could be that a better quality replacement might make it sound a lot happier. Of course, with 200,000 miles+ on it you could be getting some noise from an engine that's past its first flush of youth, though I wouldn't expect major issues as those Toyota lumps seem to be extremely hardy units, and you might be getting some gearbox noise, particularly on over-run, caused by worn bearings letting things move around a little more then intended and changing the mesh on the gears, which falls into the category of annoying but not serious unless it suddenly gets noticeably worse, in which case the box might be about to go pop...
That's the best news ever.
We'll investigate the sender see if that makes a difference.
The exhaust is from my old Mr2 - but it seemed to be OK when it was on that.
Could just be time sitting around?
Hoping that we'll have it sorted soon though!
@@lmm The sender is certainly a good place to start as it could easily cure the issue. If the exhaust was stored the wrong way or knocked over/dropped at some point that can mess up the baffles too...
How about a sudden stop with a tree?
@@lmm Yes, I would think that could do it too, it certainly counts as a shock...
Love the video!
Thank you very much!
👍👍
try flushing the cooling from the bottom upwards. coca cola helps to open cocked radiators ;) or white vinegar. well done good channel
I'll have to try that, thanks!
A method I've heard for breaking the bead of a tire, sorry, tyre as you Brits spell it, is to roll a heavy vehicle up onto it after first letting the air out.
Yeah, that would probably work actually. Good call!
@@lmm Try my method -- you've got a second heavy tractor, after all! ua-cam.com/video/84HM4ZY1hKc/v-deo.html
To help the shaky stirring there is a screw on the right side of the stirring box from the seat
Awesome! I'll investigate this weekend.
Most likely steering box will be abit worn inside, also will need track rod ends doing and kingpins wouldn't go a miss either!!
Jizzer? you got to be kidding me lol
It's good stuff!
At 24:00, never ever push downwards on a stuck fastener with a wrench (spanner) or any other leverage tool. If the tool slips off or breaks you could injure yourself severely with your forward momentum, slashed arms/wrists, face-plants, etc. Always if at all possible pull up on said tools!
But you can push harder!
Makes sense though, we'll bare it in mind
MR2..... Is the exhaust issue blocking the flow of gases when you're off throttle, therefore causing it to stall?
I suppose that's possible - though it seems to go away once it's warmed up?
How do you insure all these vehicles for on the road? Do you have some sort of special policy that covers anything that you drive? Or are all the vehicles individually insured?
Both actually. I've got one big policy that covers everything, and with that I'm fully comp on other people's vehicles. Assuming they've insured it, and it's worth less than 20k
for badly rusty bolts and nuts try using old brake fluid , it really penetrates and does the job
I image it would, thanks for the tip!
I wish I could offer some sage words of advice... But I can't. Oh! no hang on - while you've got the wheels off the 35, whip the brake drums off too - they get clogged up with all sorts of agricultural detritus in their working life.
And Nitromors looks shit since I last used it a couple of hundred years ago.... Bloody health & safety!
Thanks! The brakes do need looking at on it, so we'll do that.
Yes indeed, apparently Nitromors used to be very good
Sounds like the international needs a good carb cleaning or rebuild most likely rebuild it’s probably hunting for fuel because it’s got some clogged ports in the carburetor
Very unlikely as it's a diesel 😂
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels oh ok I was assuming it was a gas job
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels Appeared to have a carburetor on it to me
rebuild the carb, and the running problems should clear up. in the mean time, while it is running, try spraying carb cleaner on the intake runners where they connect to the head. you may have a leaky gasket as well. if it speeds up when you spray a runner, you found your leak.
This one was a while back - I'm trying to think what vehicle running had carbs... I think it's only the Lotus that I own that had them...
The tractor's are both diesel, but I do suspect a leaky / failed head gasket.
@@lmm i didn't realize the international was a diesel. in europe, they seem to be more popular than gas engines. here in the states, it is kinda the opposite. many more gasoline tractors than diesel ones. my grandfather had one that started on gasoline until it warmed up, then you switched over to kerosene. we had a farmall b from the 40's, and a 1965 ih 706 on the farm when i was a kid, both gasoline engines. plus an 8n and a 9n, both from the 40's. i learned to drive the b when i was 8, pulling a wagon around the cornfield so dad could pick up the ears of corn our two row picker would throw on the ground on the corners instead of the wagon being pulled behind the tractor. it took all of my weight standing on the pedal to push the clutch in. wish i had that b still. i've got a 1947 economy, and the massey 33.
Oh that's cool, we had several tractors, notably the one varient of te20 that you did that with, started on petrol, then switched to 'Tractor vaporising oil'
Diesel is a very popular fuel over here, I couldn't believe how much runs on gas with you guys!
And good for keeping the tractors :)
Will you be able to get Dodge and jupiter fix and up and running like a fire engine again
Jupiter is almost there, the Dodge will get done in time.
25:05 Is that a Ferguson Te20 backend? Why do you have one of those about?
All in good time my dear chap.
@@lmm Its great that still with over 14.5 thousand subscribers, you can respond to most comments, cheers from a Ferguson tractor obsessed lad in Somerset.
We read everything and try to respond to everyone - without you lot we're nothing!
The tractor situation will be revealed soon!
this guy is like hubnut
I'm hearing that quite a bit.
We'll have to arrange a meet 😂
I've got a shunter engine myself. An upsized Hudswell Clarke Diesel Mechanical 0-8-8-0 Shunter, 26 cylinder with 0.7223 liter for each cylinder.
Oh that sounds interesting, where is yours based?
@@lmm it's top speed is 71.2 miles per hour on a very, very flat plain. And is biofuel capable.
And is based in Buckley Washington, USA
That sounds awesome! Would you be intrested in letting it appear on the channel?
@@lmm it depends if it's going to not be in use, I use it as a hauler for Tacoma
You gotta call fireman Sam to come help you with Jupiter
😂
Good start😭
Orange was the training centre Qualify as a firefighter I’m pretty sure
Ah really? I don't know too much of her history sadly. The back end is still very orange.
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels hahaha Anyway if it was on an airport it would be in yellow green Or read
I think the bloke I got it off said it was once on an airport - that's where I got the thought from.
Just a tiny strip somewhere.
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels oh well plus the goddess is Out of petrol and is stuck blocking my driveway no one can get up there oh what fun
An original Ational, you don't see them very often anymore.
Also if the dodge was orange coulda been an from Edinburgh as early days they were orange
Oh really? How about Manchester?
That's where she's from originally.
@@lmm ah yeah they did have some
Also on the pump help there are a few groups on facebook.that mignt be able to give ya a few idea. One is dennis fire engines might be able to help
Yeah, thanks that's a good idea. I'll put a post up! Thanks for the idea
Check your fuel lines got air in them thats why it's serging
Oh that's a good shout. We thought it was going to be the govener, but replacing it made no difference.
@@lmm also make sure no old fuel lines with a air leak will make it run like that all day
That's a good shout, I'll have a look!
Aujust the throttle on the b275 so it can stop hunting
Get carb rebuild kit for international that's why its hunting
I don't think they make carb rebuild kits for diesels!
You need to restore the fuel pump that she will sound better
Get them pulled off before next time.
They where quite well stuck on there!
the noisy car is quieter than the average American car, probably jus exhaust.
Very much so
You're not expecting a Mazda to run properly? If you are you're smoking something illegal.
I expect everything to run properly, and for lucas electrics to work! 😂
@@lmm I don't know what you smoke, but I want some!
I guess Trev is the pessimist of the group
I think he likes to be called "realistic' 😂
Can someone please tell the kid to pull his trousers up.... Not cool, and grey pants clash with t-shirt.
We'll tell him to pull his socks - and trousers up!
