How to Stop your PS5 from Defaulting Sound into your Headset

We're doing a quick tutorial on how to stop your ps5 from defaulting sound from the TV to your Headset. This will work with all headsets such as the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and 700s, Steel Series 7p, etc with that USB transmitter. It's very annoying every time when you turn on your ps5 and the sound automatically defaults to the headset!! Let us know if this helps you guys out. Leave a comment below!!

Thanks for the short quick tutorial. That was driving me crazy. I didn't know that setting would swap from my soundbar to my headphones no matter what. Really annoying. I put my ps5 on sleep and it would still do it. The setting is kind of misleading because it says "new device" but my headphones are always plugged in so I didn't think it would matter. Appreciate it.

Just bought some brand new Steelseries 7+ for my PS5 and I'm having the same issue! Had to manually switch them back and forth. But for the PlayStation 3D headsets it's automatic, but any other headset, I have to mainly set it myself, it's annoying! I'm glad I'm not the only one that has this problem

I have the same issue. I have some Barracuda Xs and in my PS4 it was automatically switched. But now on the PS5 even if I turn on the automatic option... IT WONT CHANGE. I have to do it manually. I hate it. :(

Literally had my headphones on, then after taking it off the sound wouldn’t come into the tv speaker again. After changing it to manual on the console at the sound setting and changing hdmi port, then it worked again. So the console won’t keep the setting by default even when the headset is taken off. It’s weird, but the closest thing that comes to mind is usb pens, how it needs the manual switch off to completely and safely remove it in order to use it again when needed.

I've just had some Razer headphones and my PS5 keeps defaulting the output to headphones even with this setting turned on and when the headset isn't even turned on 🙃

Wow, the same model for the Xbox doesn’t have any issues at all. You can have sound coming from TV and headphones all by inserting the usb stick. PS5 making it WAY too frustrating.

Wow that's a f**k around. Miss the ps4. So nice turning on your headset and audio is in your headset. Turn off the headset, audio is now coming from your TV. So nice and streamline. This is not how anyone at Sony thought this was a good idea needs to be fired along with everyone who approved it.

I read a few comments that were complaining ( nothing new on UA-cam) but I found this very helpful and to the point. My original PlayStation gold ( blue and black color) finally broke after 8 years, and since the new version and pulse have smaller ear cups....I had to search for new headsets. The major plus with the gold was when I turned the headset off the sound went right back thru the TV. All the headsets I was trying didn't do that so I was pulling the USB connection out every time. Your video ( and ps5 features) really helped get this little annoying problem settled. Keep up the good work and ignore the stupid comments. Lol

Everyone is looking for the opposite of this, to not have to manually switch it, you never had to on the ps4 because of the way they had it wired with a digital optical. The ps5 only has the usb for wireless headsets & wont auto switch off until you pick up the headset off the base like it used to be

If you have any highend Astro headset (like Astro A50s) or any headset that uses an optical cable with it's setup, you can hear both thru the TV and ps4 simultaneously. If you don't have one. You can only hear from the TV or Headset. Not both unfortunately
