Toyota C-HR 2020 2.0 Hybrid - You've Got What You Asked For (ENG) - Test Drive and Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Toyota C-HR debuted in 2016, and surprised everyone, who didn't expect Toyota would carry over so much of the bold design from the C-HR concept. The crossover soon became a popular choice with clients, but the engine lineup, which consisted of a 1.2 turbo petrol and a 1.8 hybrid was just insufficient for the C-HR's chassis. The 2020 Toyota C-HR addresses this with a new, more powerful 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain. Other tweaks are subtle, and the biggest news is the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Is the new Toyota C-HR what you are looking for?

The c-hr is a hidden gem in the Toyota line. IMO the best Toyota considering the driving comfort and handling
I think the original C-HR review was the most popular video because people couldn't believe Toyota made an interesting car. People were really interested in it and you got it quite early. Certainly earlier than the carwow review and other "major" ones.
The fact that it's a good review also helps :)
Already bought one. C-LUB Premium 2,0 Hybrid. The coolest car i have ever owned
Sound great! What is it real fuel consumption? Thank you
y can u say actual numbers while driving in city traffic
I can go approx 24 km pr. Liter gasolin mixed driving. Highway, town country. The car has plenty of power in everyday use. All the gadgets works fine.
I luv it because i am one of the 2018 model owner. Good for daily drive. To me its easy and practical to drive
I like seeing your reviews because you are straight to the point and without a lot of useless phrases and sayings :)! Maybe Toyota lacks design however for sure they are reliable cars and give you a very good value for their money :)
I just bought one and getting it 02-2022. Love your reviews!
Timing Marek! And CHR was something new and spaceship like!
I love the C-HR. I own a 2019 Limited.
Hi! Do you like this car? I wanna to buy C-HR.
I saw your last C-HR review, because I was considering buying one. And I did actually 😃
Congrats! How is it to live with then?
I just bought one..getting the car mid june...
Really looking forward to it
your 1st review came a time when i was shopping for a car and C-HR really stood out for me.
I've watched your first C-HR only a few minutes ago.
It was the (still) unusual design that caught my eye.
Or maybe because a few weeks ago one in striking blue colour appeared in our neighborhood.
Anyway it looks more like a sci-fi prop than a practical vehicle. 🙂
You are as always on top, Marek! Hopefully you are all doing well, there in Poland, keep safe!
Thanks, Marek! I was waiting for this test!
I saw this car and I liked the shape, so I decided to learn what is it. But thanks to your video, I won’t waste my time to shop for this version.
Glad I could help
Beautiful car, loved it since release. Seats are excellent too. Buying it any time soon
I like it, but refuse to pay the SUV premium. Number of views... it was the car, your production quality and humor are always there. Thanks for that!
thank you for your review, I've been waiting for it for so long:)
Ordered exact same car in exact colour with all options selected. It is called Special Orange Edition in UK. Can't wait...
Great suspension and very stable in bumpy roads at high speeds.
Being in love with the car I can see the - Honda like - back design, yet, in CHR looks much better.
However, no one is talking about the other perspective… many automotive designers are influenced by CHR and I can see the influence of the CHR design on many new released cars (part of the documentation process, of course lol).
Now our kids have left home it’s a car for just the two of us as a 2nd hand purchase. I found the Corolla a little low for my aging back so am interested to see if this is a bit higher and uses the same 1.8 power train. Incidentally mpg is important to us. The last gen Kia Niro is also of interest.
I hope you get 2 million for this video too. Very interesting.
I love this car. I watched your previous video a few times. I wanted the orange 2 litre CHR but the 1.8 dynamic version was better value and all it need by way of extras was leather and chrome trims. It is superb. This car replaces my MX5 Powershift and my Mini Countryman All4 SD. I wanted a car to replace them both and give me a combination of sporty, practical and self charging hybrid. It gives me everything I want and I hardy ever have a rear seat passenger as I am retired and in my own. My only wish is that it had a sunroof. John
Agree about sun roof. I really miss mine from the Lexus ux.....but love my new chr. Also wish mirrors folded back
Diana Dykes
On the orange edition they automatically fold in when you lock it, so if you are walking away you can see wether it’s locked or not.
I love it! Today I drive a 1.8 C HR 2017 and in september I get my new with 2.0 engine.
I still prefer the Nissan Juke... It seems more modern both inside and outside. Especially inside, C-HR seems to be at least 7-8 years old, it totally lacks inspiration. For what it's worth, it's definitely a nice and reliable car, nevertheless if I would buy one of those sporty SUVs I'd definitely opt for a Juke. With a pricetag of 35k+ euros, there are plenty of other alternatives (nicier, bigger, etc) whereas at the base pricetag it is still more expensive than the futuristic Nissan Juke. That's my two cents in this! BTW, I totally enjoy your videos and consider your channel as among the best ones for spending some quality and informative time while at home! Keep up the great job!
Wish we could get this engine on our CHR in North America. Finally some motivation for this chasis. The design is still too compromising to want to buy however
Most gorgeous car… 😍
I think people will buy this for it's looks alone regardless of it's shortfalls
Severely disappointed this doesn’t come in 4x4. Bought one last year hoping it would do ok in the winter. It wasn’t enough for me. It did the job, but it was a mild winter where I am. I’m going to trade it in for a rav4 or something similar. Otherwise I like it, but I love the money it saves me in gas.
Your original review was great. I have a small music channel that doesn't get anything like your hits, and always wonder why some videos get views and others don't. I suspect it's once they start to cascade, there's a runaway process that means particular videos go viral, while others just never get off the ground?
CHR is one of the better looking cars....
but 0-60 is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad
Corolla HB better
@@kingdemon89it's not a racing car 😂😂
At the time, it contributed to decide a purchase.
Thanks for the information 😊. Nice review
I was shopping for a hybrid in 2016 and we hadn’t received the CH-R in the States at that time.
I really liked the expressive styling of the CH-R. But when it finally became available it was only offered in gas engine only which ended up being one of the slowest in its class. It also makes the vehicles in general pretty pointless here.
I would definitely give the CH-R a second look if the hybrid with eAWD was an option.
I love my 2020 C-HR!!! Limited
How much you pay for it? Mine is CHR XLE BLACK AND WHITE, 24K
Tung Nguyen I got it for 27, leather seats, pearl white with black roof, it’s a beauty
Great price. I’m seriously considering the 2.0 dynamic litre scarlet flare (red) one with leather seats but the price for that is looking much higher.
I like it, I like it a lot but the fact that the back seats are so gloomy and dark kills it for me.
Well, time to watch the review on the new CH-R
To be honest I just love seeing the ch r😅
In Thailand we have a 1.8 Petrol + CVT (From Corolla) C-HR. Lack of options but lovely to drive.
I was going to upgrade to the koba hybrid but when I learnt that is is only in 2wd I said no! Also the teal blue colour has been discontinued and I'd only upgrade to this colour
lack of sunroof is a big pity in this great car! 😕
I agree! That was so nearly a deal breaker for me but in the end the style won. I have even written to Toyota to mention the lack of sunroof
I loved this car , wanted to buy up to the minute my kids sat back and where very disappointed from the small windows and high cut doors which made them see nothing from out side !! Which made me to change my mind of course!! The back door big shame !!
Just purchased the orange edition, pick it up next week, hope I've made a good choice.
Congrats!
Let me know how you like it in a couple of months, when you settle in.
That concept looks amazing. The real thing not so much.
Watch pre-facelifted version review because I was already subscribed your channel. One my colleague year before bought 1.2 CVT version with second from the top trim level. I'm 1.89 cm short or tall but still managed to get on rear seats with decent amount of space (not great, not terrible) also noticed digital clock from the 1980s. By the way does it remain in facelifted version? CVT whining even in city also didn't impressed either.
Recently saw facelifted version in blue colour and only lights looked different.
Also in Lithuania was car accident where CH-R rolled over (driver wanted to avoid animal on road) and none of airbags deployed and driver died. This accident is still under investigation.
Marek, i was waited to tell us which hybrid edition is better for the CHR..
My opinion is , the 7.000 euro difference makes me think the 1,8 is the best choice.
For the city 1.8 is OK, but if you drive longer distances often 2.0 is better.
Thanks for the answer, friend.
I appreciate it.
I love my 2020 CHR ❤️👍🇺🇸
honestly, i dont know what they where thinking.. i mean they made the exterior sporty wilde/aggressive, and then they released the car with under powered engine, wich dosnt matches the looks.. now, they have gave us the right size engine.
But from you're review it sounds, the electronic schiffter isnt calibrated for more enthusiastic driving?
It's geared for economy. They could have made the sport mode more aggressive.
@@MarekDrives i read that they may introduce a full electric version next year (2021)
Why there’s no hybrid chr in the us
No, I didn't get what I want! I have a 2018 C-HR in Radiant Green Mica with a white top and I'd love that exact color on a 2020. I got compliments every single day for months with this car! People loved the color and the look of the car. It is a pleasure to drive. I'm really upset with Toyota for not having that color as an option in the US for the 2020. In a sea of white, black, 10 shades of grey / silver, and red, you could certainly see me coming. Shame on you Toyota!!!
Nice review!
I have to choose between this and the new Kuga PHEV. Not an easy decision...
That video had so many view because it had snow in thumbnail picture and people thought you gonna test it in deep snow
Saving up and going to trade in my old C-HR for the Tesla Cybertruck.
any change of gettin the C-HR 2.0 GR Sport version review? dont see any of em on youtube and was wonderin how much better it is than the example Limited edition .. thinkin of gettin one, went for test drive on 2021 limited edition 2.0l hybrid, and that was awesome to drive and was quiet at highway speeds ( 105-110km/h) loved it alot ..
Yes. Finally Toyota. A more powerful hybrid engine, quieter interior, and Android Auto / CarPlay. No more massive problems in my eyes. Just wish there was a plug-in version as well.
Great car I do not see any issue with the back seats mind you I have not sat in them for a long journey.I have the 1.8 sport maybe acceleration a bit sluggish have not given it a proper test run
Love it!
Well, I just came back from the Toyota garage where I booked a test drive with the CHR 2L hybrid for next Monday. I already have a CHR, but it is the 1.8L hybrid version with 122 BHP. Apparently, the 2L version has 184 BHP... Reason why I went to see the car is that Toyota Belgium adverts a price reduction of almost 6000 Euro and that is intersting because its the highest price reduction ever for this car. I am looking forward to the test drive, although the salesguy already informed about a thing or 2 that differs the 2L from the 1.8L. For exemple, the larger batteries in the 2L version take some room from the booth, so it is not as deep as in the 1.8L. The 12v battery is not in the engine compartiment anymore, because of the space the bigger engine takes, but it is also situated in the booth. Furthermore, you can have access to Android Automobile... Also, you can choose between 1 color (monotone) or 2 colors (dual tone) that allows you to choose a different color for the roof. The 1.8L version is not a sportscar. It is more a car for a "mature" public. You do not have to drive with an egg under your right foot to score less then 5L/100 km. Also, the entrance for the driver and passenger is very easy because the sitting position is relatively high (high rider)...
I will let you guys know more when I have finished my test drive...
I watched first review because I have. Rav 4 now liked the look of chr but wasn't sure loved rav but don't need such big car now as retired ordered chr dynamic 2 ltr
Hey dude. Why not have have the rear camera on (almost ) all of the time. To make up for the, all the time, obstructed rear view.
I've driven panel trucks with poor rear view, it is unsettling. An all seeing camera would be terrific.
Rear view camera usually points downwards, so it would be of no use here. However in some cars you now get a virtual rear view mirror, which cuts out rear passengers heads and C pillars, so you have clear 180 degrees view of what's behind the car. The camera for this is usually mounted on the roof or top of the rear window.
I mentioned it in the Evoque
ua-cam.com/video/iPVObMejd_4/v-deo.html
and RAV4 reviews.

Great review and car. I really love the C-HR. What's the EPA in MPG?
No idea. I guess you'll just have to google the conversion.
@@MarekDrivesENG great. Thanks
@@kingpin461 The CHR hybrid is not listed for US EPA as it is not available in the US. I have had the 1.8L hybrid for 2 weeks and the average mileage is around 74mpg UK, around 60mpg in sports mode and 82mph in a very slow eco mode, all with around town driving. The highest run has been 99.9 mpg but I believe the mpg gauge maxed out at that level. The driving comfort, quietness and amazing fuel mileage are the best reasons to buy this car. We love the CHR hybrid.
Great review. I watched your original review as I was thinking of buying a CHR. Ended up buying a Hyundai Tucson. The design of CHR is polarising and I was not impressed by the 1.2T engine - think I was expecting a nippier car! Now we can only buy a hybrid in the UK, sadly.
I bought the 1.8 litre hybrid in England. It is sup8
I heard they have problems with the cvt gearboxes and the 1.2T has some issues too. I was going to put a down payment on one unfortunately it is a bit pricey when spec'd up.
I love the design of this.. but I can't afford the newer models yet. Any idea how different it would be if I go with older model? 2013-14?
1. There is no 2013/14 model. It's in production since late 2016.
2. You won't get the more powerful hybrid variant, you won't get Apple Carplay/Android Auto.
Otherwise it's going to be pretty much the same.
Pitty no digital dials and memory elec seats. Those reasons make it a no for me otherwise it was a potential car for me.
My in laws ordered one. Its coming sept 2020
The one of the problems with CHR is the rear door windows: they are too small for the standard sun shades and Toyota doesn't want offer the original ones - our kids always suffer from the direct sunlight.
I found something on Amazon in 30 seconds.
www.amazon.com/3D-Custom-2018-2020-Soltect-Sunshades/dp/B087YKK4Y4/ref=sr_1_37?dchild=1&keywords=window+mesh+toyota+chr&qid=1592727095&sr=8-37
I know they are out of stock, but there's bound to be more like this. Use the term "mesh" instead of sun shade, because then you mainly get windscreen covers in your results.
Also, I'm not a fan of AliExpress, and generally I would not recommend it as it mainly sells fakes, but if you can't find something anywhere else, chances are someone on AE is going to have it.
@@MarekDrives try to order and install. I did it several times from Amazon: all the sellers claim they fit CHR but realistically they don't
@@MarekDrives I even wrote to Toyota about this and asked for the recommendations, they've never responded
funny i can't find this model in california. they have chr but not the hybrid one
I clicked on this video because I am in the market for a hybrid car. I like the RAV4 hybrid but it costs more than I am willing to pay for a new hybrid car. This car seems like a good option despite its quirky appearance. I really dislike the front sides. Reminds me of little T-Rex lol.
I think the facelift _is_ an improvement in style and with the introduction of phone mirroring makes it more competent in the class. However now that it's not a brand new design anymore, much more exciting rivals have arrived such as the new Captur, 2008 and Juke, and many which are more competent than the C-HR in other aspects. So because it's not that exciting anymore, it's now the same as other Toyota's at least in my country, a car exclusively for pensioners or taxi drivers.
Is this car published in Canada? I didn’t find this hybrid one on Toyota.ca...
Hello Marek I have only ask u how to automatically move Toyata C-hr 2020 Outside mirrors ? please send to me shot video
This is a press car. I had it for a week.
Besides it looks cool and there is AWD for 1.2 Turbo AT (here in CZ) and maybe it is a little bit easier to get in, there is I think no doubt that the Toyota Corolla offers even better chassis, price and practicality. You don't benefit here nor from ground cleareance. Also Corolla now looks very good.
How much is the price for this in california? Any idea? Thanks
I find interesting you didn't inform the listeners which trim model you were reviewing.
Answers easy, Just review the chr every week and within months you will be even wealthier than you already are!! Does the sarcasm work the same in Polish? Usual excellent review.
I wish they had more power options that way I could review something else than different colors :)
Is a new Juke quieter than CHR? Which car is the best in this segment in terms of noise based on your experience?
Wish Toyota made CHR their performance crossover
Once upon a time, I used to drive Toyota, the only issue I faced was that when you press accelerator, the engine sound can be heard by everyone sitting in the car... is C-HR is having any engine sound?
It's a eCVT gearbox, so the revs don't necessarily match the acceleration like you're used to in cars with traditional automatic transmissions.
Marek Drives thank you for your time and reply...
Because I guess we like toyota tht much.
I love this car but no AWD 😟 forcé to go with RAV4 😔
Another great video from Marek!! Can you do some Ford's soon? I'd love to see the mk4 Focus, mk2 Puma and mk3 Kuga :)
Good review! I second the fact that they underpowered it. It looks like it should have more capabilities and they have reduced it. I actually thought it was a very powerful car until I saw your review. Not that bad but it should feel look and be very powerful. Maybe they don’t want this to overshadow the RAV4
What is Android-ow-toe?
In the U.S., we do not get the hybrid and we do not get AWD/4WD. Sooooo... it's just basically not competitive. Oh Toyota... why oh why do you not offer the hybrid with e-AWD and be the only real hybrid sub-compact CUV (I do not count the Kia Niro as a real CUV, it's just a hatchback)? C'mon Toyota, you make the best hybrids in the business... ALL of your models should be offered as hybrid and/or hi-spec engine only.
not available in the US
C-HR in general, C-HR Hybrid or the C-HR 2.0 Hybrid?

IMAGINE if this had a panoramic sunroof!!! Shameeee
Corollas the ,most popular, car now have CVTs, and they are no more popular because of that. To many of us ,who drive and work around cars a CVT trans. is just a deal breaker. Subarus have the same issue...no one likes CVTs.
I newer really thought about this, but i often use the throttle to adjust trajectory in turns on the freeway. I just assumed that this would also work in a hybrid.
It's not related to the hybrid, but CVT. And I'm referring to driving much more enthusiastically, than your average C-HR driver does :)
I think this car is made for our times. It is politically correct. It tries to please everything and everybody. It's an average at best. It mimics what the majority of customers think they are or they want to be. Cool and tough, a little familly and kids friendly, secretly interesting. All of this without too many risks and commitment. Here is the reason Marek for the 2 millions.
is there a option of panaromic roof ?
is this still better bet than yanis cross 2021 ? ofc. along side the wait.
Do you think Yanis cross 2021 will have a Hybrid self charging option as well ?
0:27 si estuviera asi realmente. Estaria increible. ....
Rear seat only for 2 people
Not best for off-road hrv or chr
What you need is a v10 engine and lost of loud noise
And an arse big enough to shuf it in
Making it easier for more mature drivers with no sense of style or design to get in and out of. Reversing out of a parking lot, why not try turning your head and using your eyes.
Because I don't have x-ray vision to see through those massive C-pillars.
@@MarekDrives Try looking through the glass it's much better, if you can't manage that try reversing into your parking space.
Really like this car but wouldn't buy one as my claustrophobic daughter would probably throw up in the back.
Good looks but too slow... Get the hrv or rav 4
Drive it in Snow please
1. This is FWD. What's the point?
2. It has ground clearance like a hatchback.
3. Where am I going to find proper snow in Central Europe these days?
