I feel like this review is spot on! I also have 2013 CB500X and am 5'3". I feel like it has been a great bike, especially a great first bike as I've only been riding for 3 years. I've put about 30,000 km on it. We've ridden multiple long distance trips, one being California up to Montana, crossing over to Canada up to Banff and Jasper, and then west past Whistler into Vancouver, and back down through Washington. We often go on twisty mountain roads and have occasionally done some off-road dirt adventures. This bike is comfortable, manageable, and has handled everything well!
Good fishing there, lots of artisans on both sides of the lake, longest free ferry ride in Canada, Cody Cave tours, hard rock mine tours. One of my favourite places!
I've spent a lifetime (50 years) riding those roads and I've been sitting here thinking of all my adventures over the years. I can't wait to go camping touring again. It never gets old.
Thank you for the nice reply. God bless you on your travels and may the sun shine on your beautiful face and have good luck with the weather and feel the warmth and kindness of the people of this vantastic country.Hope its the same when i traveled years ago. Thanks for the video Megan. I don't think I can remember any time riding in the rain that I've regretted. Nice to have you take us away to the biking that we all miss so much.
Hi Megan, Greeting from Castleford. UK. Fab video 👍. Beautiful scenery and you got a lovely footage of the little bird. Your hair look to be very near to the fire at the end of the video 🙈. Take care and safe riding😉.
I grew up in Sandpoint Idaho and used to visit this area often as a kid. Just recently bought an Africa Twin Adventure Sport and cant wait to make it back to that part of the world to ride. Excellent videos!
Hey Megan, thanks for the great video. You just helped my wife and I decide where we’re riding this summer from Saskatchewan. Your Thailand video also inspired us but we’ll save that for post-covid. Can’t wait to get out for some two-wheeled therapy. Ride safe!
I have to say that is the most stylish and sexy m/c rain gear I have seen in quite some time. 😄 I take it you have someone assisting with the filming given some of the shots. I look forward to doing some more riding in this area this summer. Thanks for sharing.
I have ridden this area almost yearly for about 6 years. It really is hard to find a better area for motorcycles. You have done a fantastic job of representing the Kootneys.
I love country side road riding. It is so much more relaxing than highway riding. You also get to see so much more. I stay off of the highways as much as I can. Hope you enjoyed your wine.
Megan, I am enjoying your videos and seeing a part of the world I may not get to visit. If you invest in some proper rain gear, riding in the rain can become just another experience on two wheels. When touring , I wear Gore-Tex boots and carry Gore-Tex gloves, pants, and jacket sized to fit over my riding gear. I can ride all day in the rain in relative comfort. I actually enjoy riding in the rain. I am surprised the emergency poncho didn't shred after a couple miles of riding.
Thanks Dave. My pants are actually Goretex but they’re too short for me (can’t find long enough rain pants) so the rain comes in through the bottom. And that riding jacket is moderately rain proof, but not after hours of riding. I finally got a Goretex shell recently that fits over my gear so I should be golden now!
Not only is your content great but you seem like a really cool person, it comes across on camera The best thing about traveling and meeting fellow riders is when you find those rare gems who appreciate it all. Safe Travels keep-em coming , Rain sucks :(
Thanks Ken! I appreciate you watching and sharing your kind comment. Riding is really the best way to meet people and explore the world, in my opinion!
I like the beer that is only made in the kootneys , have a friend in Nelson so gives me an excuse to go back...love your filming and you are cute so that makes it even more enjoyable......
Unfortunately found your channel Megan through the loss of your friend. I must say your videos are absolutely fantastic, full of sights, scenes and information. Love it thank you 👌🏻
The hot springs area looked amazing !. Shame it poured down rain after that. Nice little cafe along the way. Funny the chime sound popping in 🔉 lol Creston looks like a nice place too. Camping looked fun at the end 🙂
Oh Megan, you make your life a great example to most of us who is not freedom enough in their mind to join such amazing trip👏👏. Awaiting for your next posting
I admit, I have become a fair weather rider. On the ferry it looked like a cold rain, the worst. You are a tough lady. The food at the winery looked great, but wine tasting on a motorcycle has its limits. Be safe out there when riding alone. Thanks for posting. I am in a hotel room in Dusseldorf, Germany and head back to California tomorrow., so this was an enjoyable diversion.
Fair play to keep smiling under the rain and the cold. Its all about the journey. Safe ride. Came back from work by night (30miles) in cold and a kind of snow the other week. My thumbs were so cold, I couldn't used my indicator switch then barely able to used my key to open my front door. Hot bath, hot meal, I was smiling in my warm bed ... .👍🏴🇫🇷🇪🇺
@@MeganKaptein :-). I'm updating a 20 years old 600 honda hornet (brakes, hoses, cleaning carbs, bearings, rubbers, suspension/shocks...). I think i'll put some hands protector, that would help also. Stay safe, enjoy the rides.🤙👌🇪🇺🇫🇷🏴
Hi Megan, despite the rain!, you've taken us to another exotic location, the amazing scenery and roads, built for motorcycling. I really admire, and appreciate your dedication in producing all your wonderful videos, my only chance, ever, to see your beautiful world.
Most memorable storm was thunderstorm riding across New Mexico desert. Lightning strikes all around me, no cover for 100 miles, kept riding high speed hoping to get out of storm, listening to the Doors Riders On The Storm which was perfect!
Great videos Megan. I love the Kootenays. You should wire your bike for an electric vest as it makes riding a little more enjoyable when in this part of Canada.
Thanks for posting the great video. I did a motorcycle trip in the Kootenays in 2011 on those very same roads, on my 1978 XS650SE. I agree that is just motorcycle heaven with the most beautiful scenery. My trip was from Calgary, riding for 5 days, and was rained on 3 of the 5 days, but that is expected in BC. The key is to have good rain gear. Drive safely.
Great video! Very well done. Enjoyed it a lot. What a beautiful area the Kootenays is. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Looking forward to the next episode.
Yeah, thanks for digging up the memories Megan! As I mentioned in your previous video, I got lost and rode up close to the bay before I turned around. Without good coverage, my phone just kind of showed 3A running into nothing. When I stayed at the hotel in Creston that night, someone mentioned the ferry and that I should have taken it over to Nelson... dang it. One thing I debated all the time with myself was the thought of having to be somewhere and putting down the miles versus just letting the trip happen. Next time I'll scrap the schedule and let the ride happen. Safe riding!
It’s definitely a luxury to be able to ride without a timeline and schedule and just going with the flow. Unfortunately that’s not often the case with me when I have limited vacation days and money haha. Parts of BC can be a bit tricky to visit in the summer without a plan, because a lot of accommodation will sell out during the busy season. But with a waterproof tent and a good sleeping bag you can always find somewhere. :) Thanks for watching and commenting again. I appreciate the support of my channel!
This year, my wife and I are planning on taking a trip to Terrace in the summer. From there we will day trip Kitimat, and Prince Rupert. My wife enjoys a 650 Verseys and I'm one of those GS guys.

No joke, my wife and I saw that same Jeep and dog on the ferry on one of our trips. Ainsworth hot spings is fantastic, and the cave is really cool. Really enjoyed the blooper at the end, looking forward to the rest.
Hahah thanks on both accounts! I’m not sure how I let that one slip but glad you enjoyed it. 🤣 Too funny about the dog and Jeep. They must live in the kootenays!
Beautiful part of the world you live in Megan! Lovely footage and well put together...congrats from Armenia. I see you like a nice drop of wine too...very nice! Back in Oz we have some really fabulous wines also! I used to live in Adelaide (South Australia)...a 40 minute drive/ride to the famous Barossa Valley...fantastic reds from that region and some beautiful boutique wineries to visit on your bike...great biker roads in that region.😊 You should visit Oz someday, if you haven't done so already. Unfortunately the roads in Armenia aren't so great, but we do have a few great mountain passes, which have recently been upgraded with nice smooth bitumen (a rarity in Armenia). Anyway, really nice to see you again Megan...I'm happy that you're not afraid of the wet...that means you're a 'true biker' now!👌 Stay safe and enjoy your time in Thailand (if you're still there)! Mitch, thanks for watching another episode and for your comment. I haven't been to Australia yet, but would love to visit in the future! Great clip, thx, and again, such incredible scenery! Just got back from the Lyon motorbike show. Fantastic. One of the biggest in France. Picked up an excellent Deemeed bag for my Tracer in preparation for my first long road trip. Lyon to Antibes along the Route de Napoléon with about 8 other like-minded bikers! Should be awesome.... 😎
Inspiring video, awsom work, almost too professional! Any way, beautiful scenery. Much of BC looks to be very similar to Norway in many ways. And the weather too. Fjords and ferries, mountains and lakes and winding roads. My plan to day, spend the day in the garage, replacing the front tire and brake fluid. Then my bike should be ready for the on coming season! Wish you many happy miles. The CBX500 seems to be a perfect bike, like the color scheme. Looks similar to my mat grey yamaha fj09 tracer . Looks forward seeing your next video.
Hi Megan, I love the vids. I'm English, my sister is a Canadian. When I visit we travel round Calgary, places like Waterton and Banff. Been to BC a few times.

Hi, Megan. I was just watching a couple of motocross videos and kind of stumbled into this video and I'm glad I did - liked and subscribed. Now, I've got to check out the other videos in this series, and I've got to say that I really like your bike. I didn't know there was an "X" version of the CB500 - I only knew about the "F" version. Looks like a great adventure, thanks for sharing/posting!
Ciao Megan, very nice video, beautiful lands and nature. I just inscribed to your channel. I think you were not alone during this ride. I would like to see a couple of pictures, or 10 seconds of video, of your friend that shared these moments with you. All the best. Federico (Italy)
Canadians seem to have an interesting approach when it comes to waterproofs🤔Fantastic scenery and drone footage thoroughly enjoying your uploads keep up the good work. Horrible weather in Scotland just now so pacifying myself with more Clement UA-cam rides👍
Those videos are very inspiring since I am considering to buy a motor bike and explore around western Canada and further. May be next year I might be considering it seriously until then I will enjoy all the bike adventure videos. Wish you good luck.
👌 Awesome work. Keep it up! I rode the "creston to kootney bay highway this summer" as well, it was hands down the best road from Sask to Penticton! Cheers 🍻
great video once again. One of the first bike vlogs that I have seen someone ride at night., may of been a short leg.. Riding at night in Tasmania, the little island state at the bottom of Aus, is a bit of a lottery with Kangaroos, wallabies and wombats all waiting to ambush you at just about every corner. Hitting a wombat is like hitting a large cement block.
Thanks for watching, Phil. I don’t do much riding during sundown either because of all the wildlife in BC, but sometimes the days are long on the road and you don’t have much choice but to ride with caution.
Great views and multiple perspective shots. Way to Create!!! Camping rocks while riding but its hard sometimes with all the camera equipment but seemed like it was no big for you!
Thanks for watching. I had help with this series, but doing it solo is definitely a ton of work. I'm currently riding solo in Thailand with all the camera gear and it's a commitment for sure!
Apart from your vlogs being something I wished to see I read your comment and it is just what I needed to hear..."I buy men's clothes..." so what are the riding pants you were wearing in episode 1 Kootenays? Have they armour in the knee and hip...they appear as casual cargo pants but hopefully are MC practical... if you can be bothered responding it would be appreciated. (Hardly a comment you expected to receive) OK so it's fantastic scenery, great motorcycling roads, some people don't know just how lucky they are, not saying you're one, doubt you need reminding. Look forward to next episode, stay upright.
Hi there, those pants are not MC pants per se, they are men’s Fjalraven cargo pants, but as a base layer I am wearing 100% Kevlar liners with knee pads and hip armour. I recommends Kevlar liners because you can wear your street jeans or regular pants on top. :)
@@MeganKaptein Thanks for reply Megan...finding warm weather comfortable and practical riding gear sucks... Who knows other on this thread might have suggestions.
Megan I am from India I will be buying this bike when it will be launched in India most probably by July 2020 I like you to make a video about the honest review about this bike which will help people in their buying decision Thanks for this nice video .
Years ago I bought 2 nylon sheets,(tent flys ) & found the cheapest plastic rope at the dollar store , along with the bungee cords, I always carry, make great guy lines, & can be stretched out to cover a picnic table, & part of the tent..In fact, when raining on departure day ,it's the last thing to be packed., Leaving you in a nice dry spot with your coffee & waiting your best moment to escape.Best of all the whole thing packs down almost pocket size!
Thought you may have two sets or riding gear if one gets wet you have a spare. Canada loos great place to do thing and ride a bike. I am from the UK. Never been over the pond as you say. Great scenery.
Thanks Kurt. I did have a rain jacket and my regular armour but in torrential downpours even the rain gear gets wet. Hence my extra garbage bag "jacket" haha
Nice roads, love Nelson BC, skied and rode thru there last year, great town with hippy vibe. You’ll have to ride here in NZ, perfect motorbike country.
Megan Kaptein hi Megan, NZ is like BC but bigger and less people, I think? I’m coming up in aug sept to ride the WABDR and IDBDR, I have a KLR near portland OR, not my first choice of bike but cheap and reliable. Haven’t ridden up there for a couple years, love those forest roads, can’t believe you can ride thru a whole state and more on dirt, wouldn’t happen here. Hey next time you pass a Tim Hortons can you flip them off for me 😳 why do people buy coffee (I use that word loosely ) from them. If you want a better seat on your CX lookup bill Mayer seats, I put them on any bike I get now, awsome comfort.

Picked up an excellent Deemeed bag for my Tracer in preparation for my first long road trip. Lyon to Antibes along the Route de Napoléon with about 8 other like-minded bikers! Should be awesome.... 😎
Sounds like a wonderful time. Enjoy and safe riding, Simon!
It's so great to see you enjoying your trip. It's not astonishing, riding is life! you feel free and living :-)
Thanks Christophe! I agree, riding is life.
Yes, don't go jumping off cliffs, and great to see a rider not put off by some adverse weather 👍
Great Scenery...Thanks for Sharing...Ride Safe Always...Greetings from the Philippines...
Thanks so much for watching! 🇵🇭
good vid greetings from LIVERPOOL ENGLAND
Thank you for watching, Paul!
I hope one day I will visit beautiful Canada. Greetings from Poland.
Thanks Mariusz! I hope so too. :)
Great timing...! -14°C in Halifax so these videos are nice to see! Thanks for sharing. Keep looking at my CB500X in the garage...... waiting!
Brr hope your riding season comes quickly. Thanks for watching, fellow Canadian!
Thanks for watching! I have heard there are some similarities but have yet to see for myself. Some day, I hope!
Hi Megan, I love the vids. I'm English, my sister is a Canadian. When I visit we travel round Calgary, places like Waterton and Banff. Been to BC a few times.
Carl, that’s great that you’ve had the chance to see many beautiful places in Canada! And always nice to have family to visit too. ☺️
@@carlosgooglemaps94, so, yeah!, my father is dead along with my mother and one of my brothers. So why don't you stop trying to be someone, and do one.
@@carlosgooglemaps94 well said Carl D, to many people like Carlos Google Maps who think their something their not. Go away map boy nobody's interested. Haha
Carlos Google Maps you are a pig can’t believe you posted such an awful comment keep those to yourself
Thanks for watching! Yep the CB500 has an X/R/F model. 😊
Thanks for watching!
Those videos are very inspiring since I am considering to buy a motor bike and explore around western Canada and further. May be next year I might be considering it seriously until then I will enjoy all the bike adventure videos. Wish you good luck.
I like your videos very much
Thank you!
..... loved the look on your face when you said " severe thunderstorm watch " lol
Lol not necessarily the thing you want to see when you're on a bike. 😆
Can hardly wait for my turn, next summer. Nice production.
Thanks Bennett! Glad you have something to look forward to next year. 😊
Aerostitch is a good option for touring trips like this one. Not as cool looking, but it'll keep you dry and protected!
I don’t think anything will ever be as cool as a plastic poncho 🤣
Another nice video, thanks for sharing.
Going to visit a winery or two is a great "excuse" for a ride. I do it too where I live in north Georgia.
Thanks for watching!
Megan, wonderful video thanks for sharing this. You have inspired me to look for trips in your neck of the woods.
Thanks for watching, Micah! Hope you get the chance to experience the Kootenays at some point.
I love how you've bagged out your bike!
Another awesome video cheers from Australia
Thanks David!
You always picked all great musics for your vids. Love that very much.
Thank you! I love music so enjoy picking the songs. 😊
👌 Awesome work. Keep it up! I rode the "creston to kootney bay highway this summer" as well, it was hands down the best road from Sask to Penticton! Cheers 🍻
Thanks for sharing these amazing videos, hope I can ride those places soon, greetings from Houston, TX
Looks like a great time and ride and good video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, Jim.
great video once again.
When I rode Highway 3A it was sunny and when I boarded the Osprey ferry it was raining on me as well, I was soaking wet when get into Nelson.😊
Hah yup anything can happen in BC!!
@phill unrau Wait, 9 siblings!?
Very good quality video. Love the pace/style of filming.
Thank you!
Stunning scenery - great riding vlog!
Thank you!
Your Honda looks great, very good choice for this kind of adventure. Best wishes from Scotland
Thank you! It was the perfect bike. :)
Beautiful - even in the rain 😈
Thanks for the videos!
Thanks for watching!
I watch your trips from Israel. Awesome views. Your vids are great and entertaining. Keep it up. I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 650 s.
Alan, thanks for watching. Nice to know I have some fellow riders watching from Israel.
I live at 2 hours from Bordeaux and when you speak about wine, it’s a pleasure for me. ✌🏻
Haha glad you enjoyed!
In France? We rode past there recently :D
Gesto and Lane - A Motorcyclists Diary Yes in France. I live in the south of Bordeaux, near Pyrénées mountains.
@@gestoandlane i forgot : you can stop at my home. Just one condition : do not drive à car 😀
@@iapbart1253 lol thanks...no cars for us in France :D too many nice roads to ride!
Just came across your videos. I enjoy them; you have great a great vibe.
Thanks Dennis!
Who the fu*k could give thumbs down to this video! 🤬
Keep up girl
Waiting for new ones! 👌👋
Haha thanks for watching and appreciating!
3:03 the look of that golden retriever is epic
Hah right?!
Was thinking the same. Lol
Loving your new channel, looking forward to the next episode, take care and ride safe.
Thank you! Appreciate the support.
Lovely ride, scenery ......thanks for sharing.....................enjoy the wine...lol .......ride safe !!!!
Thanks Andrew. :)
Que lindos paisajes, al igual que tú. Dan ganas de migrar a Canadá, para así conocerte.
The place is amazing and this raincoat is top.
Great riding in that area, keep up the great videos.
Thank you!
Megan I am from India I will be buying this bike when it will be launched in India most probably by July 2020 I like you to make a video about the honest review about this bike which will help people in their buying decision Thanks for this nice video .
Neeraj, that would be great! Feel free to share the link once you do your review. Safe riding.
Great tip!
Great video ! Thanks for sharing
Thanks Rick!
I really love to watch the way you travel. Nice rain clothes 😊👏👏🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
Haha thanks Luis. Just an extra layer of rain protection so I didn't have to bring a wet jacket into my tent at night.
Because of you, I want to buy CB500X more and more in this year.^^ (from South Korea)
Always thank you for your beautiful video~~~!!!
Thank you for watching Sung Hoon :)
Hence my extra garbage bag "jacket" haha
nice video and beautiful smile. love your video from thailand🙏
Nice roads, love Nelson BC, skied and rode thru there last year, great town with hippy vibe. You’ll have to ride here in NZ, perfect motorbike country.
It’s on my list, Simon! I’ve seen some incredible pics of NZ.
@@simonhantler8062 Haha I'm with you on the Tim Horton's.
@@MeganKaptein look me up when you come to nz or need some info, ill help as much as i can.
I am sure that your memories of riding will always end up being sunny and dry, well someday. Thanks for sharing your passions with all of us. We live in Cherryville and are lost is our love for the twisty's Have you done Hwy #6 yet ? Glad the ride ended next to a warm fire .
Robert, I have indeed! I love highway 6! I rode highway 6 getting to the Kootenays last summer and coming home this year. Such an enjoyable ride.
