Great job Megan, as a 67 yo rider I am VN bound next Jan 2022. The research I am doing now during covid makes sunshine in my heart for the ride times ahead. Did you have any footage of Old Quarters Hanoi? In the summer, when I was 5 years old , I walked with my 4 years old brother to my grand mother house half of a mile away in Saigon. Only a third of the house was on dry land. The other 2/3 of the house was on stilts over the river bank. We skipped steps all the way there. At the door, we removed the shoes and noisily greeted our grand mother. She waved us in and brought down our favorite treat: a bottle of honey, a tea spoon, and two tooth picks. She opened the bottle and carefully filled the tea spoon with honey and handed it to us on a table. Sitting on two chairs facing each other, we took turns dipping our tooth picks and leisurely sampled the exquisite taste. After the honey was gone, she pulled my younger brother on her lap and seated me next to her. We eagerly look up to her face and she stared the stories of her time in Old Quarter Hanoi and the Dong Xuan market where she spent every morning shopping and prepared meals for the family. When I returned to Vietnam for the first time, I toured the Dong Xuan market and the residences in the fairy tales of childhood. The scenery seemed very familiar as I imagined years before. From the honey, we experienced the simple pleasure of life, companionship, joy of sharing, and grand mother love. There is a bottle of honey in my cupboard, and whenever I think of her I take the bottle down to fill my tea spoon. The taste of honey hasn't changed through all these years...
Aww what a beautiful memory! Thank you for sharing that. It's so special that you have not only the memory, but the taste of the honey, to remind you of your grandmother and her love for you. Some of those scenes in my video from Hanoi are from the old quarter. 😊
Hi Megan, I stumbled across your channel recently and have watched a few of your videos. They're all very well edited and the drone work in this one just added to the sense of epic that is Northern Vietnam.

Great video, and editing too. The imagery was easy to enjoy, and the use of a drone adds that whole other dimension to the POV. It is wonderful to see a local girl traveling abroad like this, keep it coming. For a bit of off-road training, check out PRS in Surrey. A single day and you'll have the foundations to build on for the next off pavement trip. Looking forward to the next video.
Enjoyed this video tremendously!! I did that loop in 2016 with friends and you are right, it is epic! Took the night train from Hanoi to Lo Cai and rode from there. Your drone shots are amazing, feels like being a bird and soaring over the mountains. I want to go back so bad and ride from north to south through central highlands. We have ridden Thailand and Cambodia as well - all amazing!
Yes, the 150 was absolutely perfect. A lot of people do the loop on scooters, which are perfectly adequate for the pavement but not so ideal for the rough terrain.
We loved riding in Northern Vietnam too; the roads, the people, the coffe; all good. We also did a Vietnamese ferry where getting on and off really checked our skills out. Thanks for sharing your experience. It brought back heaps of good memories.
That was a great video! I’m interested in your thoughts on riding the little XR150 as compared to your other bikes. Much of Asia rides similar bikes to the one you rode, and they seem to get along just fine like you did in the video.
Yes, you’re right! In fact the XR150 is a big bike compared to what many people ride in that area. I witnessed just what a small scooter is capable of! I actually loved the XR 150 for this trip. It was fun to be on a small nimble bike and it gave me confidence to ride those gnarly dirt roads. I wouldn’t want to be doing highway touring with a bike like that, but for low-speed rural travel, it was spot on!

@@boomerhgt 25,000 people die of hunger every day in the world. That doesn't make any rich people care actually. But that wasn't the point. In the West, or in Europe, for that matter, or on North American territory, it is not uncommon to find that the inhabitants are less welcoming than those in poorer countries. If you have an explanation for this, please explain it here.
Wow, really spectacular landscape and scenery there. That horrible smog was a surprise to me, though. I almost got an all expenses paid trip to Vietnam back in 1972, but my Draft Number was just a bit too high to get “Selected”. My Korean wife and I go to South Korea every year, but we missed it this year due to COVID-19. I can recommend South Korea very highly. It is basically a dual language country, Korean/English, so it’s easy to navigate your way around. In my many years visiting Korea, I have never seen smog nearly as bad as what you showed here, even in Seoul. Outside of Seoul, I have never seen any smog. Thanks for another super interesting travelogue. I really enjoyed it. Happy Trails

For a bit of off-road training, check out PRS in Surrey. A single day and you'll have the foundations to build on for the next off pavement trip.
Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks for watching and the tip on PRS. That’s where I took lessons in 2014. :) Excellent instructors!
Hallo Megan!!
Nice to know your channel. I like it so much.
Brilliant video admire you so much at a point in live I could do this but not brave or confident enough... go girl
i say do it bro, life is too short
Enjoyed this video tremendously!! I did that loop in 2016 with friends and you are right, it is epic! Took the night train from Hanoi to Lo Cai and rode from there. Your drone shots are amazing, feels like being a bird and soaring over the mountains. I want to go back so bad and ride from north to south through central highlands. We have ridden Thailand and Cambodia as well - all amazing!
As they said in the 60s, “What a trip!” The 150 looked like the perfect motorcycle for those roads.
Thanks for watching, Bruce! Glad this video brought up some positive memories for you.
Hi Megan three things come to mind Megan . U are riding a honda thats is a top bike for reliability . U are showing the world a incredible place on this planet a go to place to go ride your adventure bike . A beautiful lady going it alone with such passion in what she is doing in her life . Good luck on all your Adventures in your life love life laugh lots . Ro . uk
Thanks so much, Ro. Yes, Hondas are great bikes and even after my little crash it kept riding and was easy to repair the minor damage. You’re right that I am passionate about riding and travel and love being able to share my adventures with you. Appreciate you watching!
The poor people are often the most smiling as opposed to the richest people whose faces bear the stigma of the worries that their wealth brings.

@宇宙無邊大法神教銀河系賞善罰惡不死不滅護教聖使一字並肩王驃騎文武大將軍 nothing, dude! There is nothing to lose, don't you know? And yes, they do have kind heart.
You think being dirt poor doesn't come with worse worries like how to feed yourself you fool
Wow' You have taken your adventures and riding to a new level. stay safe and beautiful.
Thanks Tom!
It looks so beautiful and I love your sweetness!🌹
Phong cảnh rất đẹp và hùng vĩ cũng phải nói thật tôi là người việt nam như trưa một lần đến nơi đó , cảm ơn bạn đã chia sẻ video này
So lovely. Greeting from a Vietnamese American. I would like to be friend and keep in touch with you. Maybe we could travel together sometimes.
Thanks for watching! Have you been to Vancouver yet? You are welcome here once the borders open up.
@@MeganKaptein Not yet, but would love to travel to Canada someday. I want to keep connection with u. Insta, Facebook, whatsapp, hangouts,....?
@@Nishkid641 I'm on IG. Same name :)
I am going to visit the Vietnam... you so good
😊
Allen, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. My mother actually spent a few years of her childhood in South Korea, so it's been on my list for a number of years. Hopefully after the pandemic, I'll get the chance to visit. And perhaps I'll see you and your wife there. 😊

Thanks for the memories! I travelled through Vietnam via motorcycle 12 years ago and recommended it to all my friends. But most of them just said I‘m totally nuts. Now look at these pictures, landscapes, ... and tell me it is not beautiful!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. You are awesome!
Wow very cool you got to travel back then and blaze the trail for people like myself. Hopefully my video brought back a lot of great memories for you and inspired you to continue the adventure!

Another top quality video Megan! - Aside from excellent video quality , I love how you always provide us viewers with great info. about the various areas & cultures you are visiting (so informative for those of us who have never visited these areas, or may never have the opportunity to) keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching and for your feedback, Nick. I love learning about history and geography when I travel, so I'm happy to share it when I am able.
Great documentary and photos ! What roads/mountains. a 150 dirt bike can't be that comfy ?
@@ed.t.hansen6499 Thank you. A 150 dirt bike would be totally fine.
Wow that was a surprise - great choice for a ride video location! I'm sure it was a fantastic experience. Really well done - love the aerial shots (with a drone I guess)!
Thanks Robert! Yes, the aerial shots are by drone. :)
