@@SirVanny1 Jake did an amazing job on this video, and he has inspired me to follow in his footsteps, documenting my rides so that all may enjoy the open road. Stay safe over there Sir Van and fear not, for the road shall be here when you return. I look forward to seeing you out on it!
I did this in 2014 on a Triumph as well! NJ to San Francisco. A once in a lifetime experience that very easily changed my life. If anyone seeing this ever has a chance to do something like this, don't hesitate.
Question for you, how was it on a bike like that, like a non touring bike? People say that while great for parts, the rider fatigue can get to you and ruin things. I want to see if my 74 Honda could handle something like that.
@@supernova6177 It depends on a variety of factors. I didn't have a specific time budget, and it wasn't a straight shot. I went to see The Badlands in South Dakota, that was my only side goal - so that added about 2-3 days to the trip as it's not easy to go that far North just to come back down to the West. But in total, it took me 9 days where I rode roughly from 7AM to 6PM each day.
In 2017 my mom passed away, 4 months later my younger brother died of cancer. In 2018 I got on my motorcycle + road all over the USA for 6 months. Sleeping bag + tent , never slept inside allways on the ground. God speed John
I'm not an american, from outside looking in, you guys have a great country and landscape! This is the real United States I'd like to see, not the mess I see in Media, sad to see US being torn apart by hatred and politics. Great video! cheers
Hey, America is absolutely awesome! You’re right I’m not trusting the media, they are only interested in getting people to fight. Look at my channel, I’m building a 1920’s airplane from scratch and going to tour the country with it. I’m in Wisconsin, if you ever want to visit look me up and and show you how awesome it is!
I'm not American, i never had the pleasure of visiting your country but eversince I was a kid, I was fascinated by the magic scenery of the US, it's like having every landscape that the world has to offer..... Thanks for the videos mate. Cheers and greetings from North Africa.
Hhhhh I'm actually from the north part of Africa. The scenery is like the mid-west parts of the US and 100 miles to the south we have the Arizona like scenery too.... Speaking about lions, we used to have the lion of Barbary that went extinct a century ago 😒😒😒

I was always worried before my first big bike ride of 2500 kms. His video always helped me calm down. There's something very special about this video that I can't explain. Thank you Jake ❤️
This takes me back to memories to the spring of '77 when Danny and I rode our bikes on a trip around the United States. From Washington to California, Grand Canyon, Florida, New York City, Indianapolis, Kansas City, the Four Corners, Yellowstone and back to Spokane. The greatest adventure I've ever experienced in my life over a period of 3 months. Slept in a pup tent and cooked over a campfire. We probably travelled some of the same roads as you did and the many roads and adventures in between. Only got caught once in the rain and a sand storm in Arizona. Thanks for sharing your time on the road.
@@crazylife6319 You have to remember prices in 1977, so somewhere between $1200 and $1500. Gas, oil changes, chain, sprocket, food, laundry, camp fees and entertainment. Danny liked his alcohol so I'm sure he spent a bit more. We were going to work as we travelled but that was thrown out the door when we arrived at the Grand Canyon. The ride was so exhilarating, it wasn't about the destination anymore.
@@vicO1323 i ask because I myself have 6 months of rent payed and I want to travel on either my Grom, or my GS500 and I want to make a video of it like this one with more commentary on the trip itself. Kinda just throwing my experience out there for the world while living it. Thing with me is I doordash on my bikes so money isn't thaatt much of a concern, tho I'd rather not wing it and leave broke.... Altho that would probably help the next if I did go broke and just see if it's possible to live off an income that you make as you go 🤷 two choices I don't have anything against, just lacking in guidance on what to expect really
In 2015 I rode 7,000 miles across 11 states through the American west with one of my best buds. Words can never describe the odyssey we were on. Real life adventure. It’s an experience I am thankful for every day. If the freedom of the open road is calling you, answer it.

This is one of the best motorbikes video I've ever seen. The genuine rider spirit. I was watching this with my girlfriend when she asked me 'why someone should take the bike a wander around the country in solo mode?' simply answered 'you wouldn't get it'. Ride on brother 👍 P.s. : I have the same, identical, bike ❤️
At 60yo the wife and I circumnavigated the US and across Canada on our motorcycles in 2017 and were blown away by the generosity and friendliness of the people we met. Your video reminds me of the feeling we had while on the road. Thank you for putting this video together.
It's so odd, waiting until I hit 51 to start riding. My wife tells me I've been a motorcyclist at heart...I just needed the bike. Just got back from a 1000 mile solo trip to the Davis Mountains in West Texas, and you're right - the friendliness off people both surprised (especially during these unfriendly times) and reaffirmed my confidence in humanity. Best to you.
Motorcycling is good for stress relieving. Im 63 years old and retired but I enjoy travelling on my Motorcycle. Lately I traveled from Manila to Zamboanga in the Philippines covering more than 1,500 kilometers in 3 days & 2 nights. A happiness that has no monetary equivalents. Kudos to all Long Riders. God bless you all....
This has got to be the best motorcycle road trip movie series I've even seen--and I've seen a lot of them. So open and honest. Thank you my friend for taking us along with you. It was a pleasure. Welcome home.
Yep, best since Richard Farnsworth riding his mower to see his dying brother in The Straight Story. This track would have fir this chronicle very well...ua-cam.com/video/rU1CzzXIn6k/v-deo.html
Great videos, Jake. Excellent choice of music also. AND, wow on Triumph... I did an 8000 miler on my 2013 yamaha fjr1300a. That was in 2016. From Atlanta up to Kalispell, Montana. Over to Wa. to see my son. Camped on the Olympic Peninsula. Down the coast to L.A. and back via Interstate. I was 56 years old. I'm ready to go again.
I'm coming back to this video after 2 years. I finally got my own little triumph, a 2010 triumph scrambler. Starting to plan my own camping trips, and road trips. And it's all thanks to you. Single handedly, you inspired me to get a triumph. To venture into the unknown. To take risks. I still think about this video and come back to watch it every now and then.
Ladies and gentlemen, what Jake accomplished and documented is no easy feat. May we all appreciate and celebrate his accomplishment and that he took the time to share his journey. Ride on Jake! Thank you for the inspiring video.
This is the essence of what we motorcycle riders stand for. That spirit of adventure and just having the courage and passion to go out there and ride. Damn I wanna go riding tomorrow. Cheer from the Philippines 🇵🇭!!!

At 79 years of age, I'm unable to take long road trips anymore, and I really miss them. (I can do about 100 miles a day, and that's it.) It was so refreshing to watch this video, without any narrative, (which in my opinion, wasn't needed at all.) Just watch the video, pretend you are on that beautiful Triumph, and make believe it is you doing those miles. Nothing in the world can remove the cobwebs from you mind like a solo cross-country bike trip. I am encouraging my son to do it, before he gets too old, but I doubt that he ever will.
Beta Bob. Thanks for that comment. I am 70 and have been putting off my desire for a XC motorcycle ride since high school. I have done it on a bicycle, hiked the Appalachian Trail, and other cool stuff. But your comment is a reminder that NOW is the time.
@@lorenthomas9993 I hope you follow through with it, Loren. You will get tired, hungry, and possibly wet, but that is all part of the experience. After returning home, it won't be long before you are planning your next trip. Good luck!
@@betabob3033 Thanks. I am ok with being tired, hungry, wet, cold... I backpacked the Appalachian Trail and bicycled across the US. Probably the inertia is the hardest part for me. Thanks for the encouragment!
Beautiful, great video. Brought back many memories...and thus tears. So many miles, trips, but with my wife always with me. We loved the road on a bike. Road a similar trip back in 93, only I started in South Carolina. Was transferred from Charleston, SC to Washington. Wife had to stay behind to sell our home. Road many of the same states/sights though. Was not as enjoyable without her sharing the experience. She would have loved it. Eventually joined me and we road the ferries to Seattle, etc. We thought it beautiful. She is gone now, thus the memories and tears. Still enjoyed it very much. Thanks.

You are an inspiration to ALL of us old-timers to get back on the saddle and get back to basics. Cheers !!
At 71 years old I bought a new Kawasaki KLR 650 and put 5000 miles on it in 2 trips. Once rode from So.Utah to Butte Montana, 725 miles in one day. You dont stop riding when you get old, you get old when you stop riding.
gladegoodrich I wish I could shake your hand. You are an inspiration to ALL of us. After a 26-year hiatus from motorcycling, I put a mint 1986 Radian on the road. And haven't looked back. Been asking myself why I waited so long...one thing's for sure...once you get bitten by the bug called MOTORCYCLING, you're infected for life....there is no cure. Your KLR is an outstandingly good choice. With it's rock-solid engine and incredible range, it is used as a military motorcycle by more countries than ANY OTHER BIKE IN THE WORLD
I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this series of 3 videos. One of the best bike touring videos on UA-cam. Great music, great scenery. Really well put together. Motorcycle spirit. Myself owning a little Suzuki Intruder 125cc, just got the feeling to go on a mini trip out of nowhere, something like 30km, just for the feeling of freedom and joy of the cheer sensation of being able to go anywhere you want, anytime.
From the otherworldly sights, to the gorgeous music choices, to the postcard editing and love of adventure pouring through, this is a truly beautiful video. Thanks for the inspiration ♥
I knew I wanted to travel, to see the world outside of my city. But this video brought me to tears at how much my heart yearns for the opportunity. Thank you. This video reignited a flame to keep dreaming and working towards making it a reality as soon as I can. Thank you so much.

Oh dear. Rode a BSA Royal Star through Europe many, many years ago. Twisting and tumbling through the Alps, overnight ferry to Ibiza Island, overnight hash hotels in Amsterdam, getting absolutely blown off the road riding German autobahns, baguettes, cheese, fresh tomatoes and wine on the sides of backcountry roads. What a fantastic trip it was and how this beautiful video urges me to do it all again only this time through all of North America. Maybe... Thank you Jake.
Roo, short story...my Dad had a 65 Royal Star that I grew up on riding behind him. It sat for years. He died in 2000 so I hauled it from place to place. A few years ago I finally faced the fact that I wasn't ever going to get it running so I hauled it out of the garage to clean it up. While I was sitting on it my daughter who was probably about 7 at the time hopped on behind my, put her arms around my waist and asked if that's how I used to ride behind my Dad. I'm tearing up right now just typing this. Anyway the guy I sold it to did a beautiful restoration job.
@@Chainsaw_18. You were on a way better bike than I was. I got that old Royal Star to 100mph by lying down on it, cranking the throttle wide open, and waiting about a year-with a little nudge from a down-sloping road--to hit the century mark. 50-60 mph and it was happy. Much more and it was breathless.
@@Chainsaw_18. I should add that the Royal Star was a 500-cc, single carb machine. It wasn't exactly the hottest thing on two wheels although it was great on twisty roads. When I bought the BSA in London there was a Honda 450 supersport sitting on the showroom floor. I should have bought that instead--it would have run circles around the Royal Star but, ya'know, in those days, it just didn't have the pizzazz of a British bike. Vanity and ego are fantastic at helping me make the wrong decisions. Incidentally, the clutch cable on the Royal Star broke so many times I bought four of them in Marseille and always just strung them across the top of the gas tank.
As a European, this video really gave me a picture about the U.S.A that I believed it is. You have a lot of amazing places, for some may I say dream come true. I hope one day I can explore it myself. Video was edited beautifully, keep up the good work Jake.
Ya its Damn Good! But sadly not monitizable due to the great music so I'm assuming since UA-cam cant make any money from it it doesn't get huge algorithmic promotion. That's ok though gotta say I kinda feel privileged to have it pop up in my recommends!

Watched the whole 3 episodes countless times and will continue to watch them every time I need inspiration and motivation to keep saving to buy my dream bike and get back on the road, this is priceless and represents the pure meaning of what biking is all about!! Thank you Jake!!
Dear Jake, It's been eight years ago that I strapped the last of the camping gear onto the racks of my Surly 27-speed touring bicycle, and headed back east from Seaside, Oregon. I traveled some of the same highway that I saw in this episode. I gather, from my second watching, that you found much of the same thing I did, being on the road in the open, vulnerable to the elements and traffic: kindness of strangers, wonder at being in the landscape in such an intimate way, renewal, and a sense of serenity that, frankly, is still woven into me in a way that my "busy productive grownup consumer life" had stripped out of me over the prior 62 years. Your film editing, the soundtrack, and carefully chosen dialogue all took me right back to that sense of peace discovered. Thanks very much for sharing. Tim L. Just up the Hill from Lock & Dam 15
Congrats on a great life experience! I did almost the same route in August 1973 on a Honda 500, and again in October 1974. For an East Coaster, going West is the best.
Dude, I love this. It's been 10 years since I took my last big ride on my Triumph Speed Triple - about 8000 miles in 30 days. We touched every state in the American West. I took lots of photos and videos, and edited some great videos to look back on. This is exactly how I would do it now. Great stuff, man - ride on!
Jake, I've watched your trip several times since I first discovered your videos. It is by far one of the most genuine and heartfelt journeys ever. Thank you.

Then we protect our industries with massive tariff walls designed to keep out the cheaply made foreign crap that constantly breaks and litters our land. Nicely done. Simple video with no narration. Beautifully filmed. I live in the Olympic Peninsula, just off of 101. Likely you passed within a few miles of my house, and likely I was home. Having ridden a lot of the western US, I recognized some of the later part of the video, particularly WA State. And, having grown up in NJ, some of NYC too. Will head out on a three day 700 mile tour of BC next week, and a nine day 2,200 mile ride of WA, OR, and ID in September. Just me and my machine. Little contact with others, because I'm riding all day. I'm 75 and I don't take this time for granted. One day, probably soon, I'll hang up the keys. Till then, I'm in the road every chance I get.

I appreciate ya. I got a boulevard c50 and thats my idea. Now i think i will. LORD help us.
How much time off work you think I'd need to take to do this??
@@supernova6177 It depends on a variety of factors. I didn't have a specific time budget, and it wasn't a straight shot. I went to see The Badlands in South Dakota, that was my only side goal - so that added about 2-3 days to the trip as it's not easy to go that far North just to come back down to the West. But in total, it took me 9 days where I rode roughly from 7AM to 6PM each day.
How did it change your life?

🙌🏻👏🏻
It is an honor I'll probably be riding them same roads pretty soon too.
how much did a trip like this cost you?
@@crazylife6319 You have to remember prices in 1977, so somewhere between $1200 and $1500. Gas, oil changes, chain, sprocket, food, laundry, camp fees and entertainment. Danny liked his alcohol so I'm sure he spent a bit more. We were going to work as we travelled but that was thrown out the door when we arrived at the Grand Canyon. The ride was so exhilarating, it wasn't about the destination anymore.

Thanks.

Sounds like a great trip! ZI never rode the Royal Star BSA, But I did put lots of miles on a BSA 650 Lighting. Great bikes, ( back in the day ) 👍
Roo, short story...my Dad had a 65 Royal Star that I grew up on riding behind him.

I’m 63 years old and that was emotionally and spiritually fantastic. Thank you for sincerely sharing. And the music was fantastic. Congratulations buddy. Thank you and God Bless you Sir.
Road trip across the US, this is my dream 🥰
Thanks from France 🙏🏻
Man I have to tell you: whenever I feel a little bit under the weather I return to this trip of yours and it makes things better.
I hope I can do one trip like that some day. Nothing on my mind but the road.
Great video, man. Thanks for sharing
Same here!
I can't imagine how eye opening a trip like this would be for someone from NYC.
travels with charley. what a book. what a wonderful journey. thanks for sharing.
I’m adding this onto my bucket list, I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while now. You’ve inspired me to do this, just you and the road that sounds therapeutic AF
I’m done man I’m doing it as soon as I can I’m tired I’m feeling trapped in this town I gotta travel and a bike is the best way to do it good luck to you
me too...before everything starts to get dark for me and not much money.
The man singing "I can only imagine" ❤😭🤧 ... this whole thing is beautiful
I could watch this video every day for the rest of my life. Haven’t been on a ride since pre-covid. I can’t wait to get back out there.
Have you got a bike? Criminal that you’re not on it now. You have zero chance of contracting covid while zooting along and camping rough in the Rockies.
this is like what everyone dreams and wish they can do this in their life (me including) but never really gets the opportunity to do this either due to employment or financially or just bad timing.
Thank you for helping us feel the vicarious satisfaction
This is what life is worth living for.
I just found you, and thank god for your videos. I loved every second of them. It’s all amazing of the views you were able to see while on your trip. Thank you so much for making this. It was amazing.
I watch your video every day. I can feel your emotion at the end. What an incredible journey. Thank you for sharing.
Four years later and I still come back to this video. Planning my second cross country ride. First was incredible, and this video was a huge inspiration for it. Anyone that thinks they need something nice to do a ride like this, you don’t. I took my z900 and spent three weeks crossing the country, exploring, and moving. Just do it before you’re too old to. It’s beyond worth. Life is short. Enjoy it while you can.
Jake, I know it’s been a long time, but thanks for taking to me the first time I did this, and I 100% say to anyone thinking about it, just do it. Go go go. Take your sport bike, your naked, whatever you can get your hands on!
I'm 43 years old, I learned to drive a motorcycle two years ago and I only have less than 2 years of experience in riding my motorcycle. I like your video, great songs, and movies, it's a great experience in your life. If there a chance, I will do the same. Thank you for the ride, I like it!
Probably one of the best travel moto vlogs I have ever seen. Great work man keep it up.
Looks like youtube algorithm picked this up, I'm glad it was in my recommendations.
People sharing their journeys without being asked just shows how much this guy has impacted them into remembering their own joyful experience. Wonderful content man……

I have been lost, don't know what I want to do or even wonder am I on the right track. Still, I dream. Wish me luck yall!

I'm 20 years old right now. I had watched this video about 1 year ago and always hoped to get a motorcycle. Today I got my Honda Rebel 300 as my first bike!! Got my license palte, college parking permit, and other legal things done! First day of riding and first time of going on the roads. It felt so free, the wind, the engine sounds, the view is just so different from driving a car. Every day feels like an adventure to me. I want to feel this on the trip by myself, travel where I want, see the nature, and meet new people. I always wanted to achieve the quote, "Don't be a tourist, become a travelor".

I have 7k in my budget, I started with honda rebel 300 as my first beginning bike and got into an minor crash myself couple weeks ago, thankfully, the insurance pay me back the 100% value of the bike on market with other side money too. Now I'm about to get an Triumph Bonneville or Scrambler or Twin 900 which was my dream to get this bike and go on a cross country. These days, I am thinking so much things about my future, but trully, I just want to go on a long trip from here, LA to NYC just like you and I am doing about next year. I really appriciate for sharing this awsome story and hope you the best. I hope to see you around NYC or somewhere else! Drive safe brothers and remember, you are not alone.

I got my Triumph Scrambler 900!!! Super clean codition, fulled modificationned, and quite cheap. It sounds sooooo good with the slash pipe exhaust. I’m almost at the part planning on doing the country road but for a while, gonna be busy with college stuffs and work.
Hey, just checking in, how is the planning going for the trip?
Man I've cried. It's so beautiful.
You are very lucky to be born in America. I wish one day I will visit your lands.
u r lucky to born in ur country
It's beautiful country, I hope you're able to make it some day
Awesome the way you set this to music. I too once packed up a Triumph like a pack mule and headed out. Great bikes.
Holy cow. This video made me emotional. I've lived on the eastern seaboard my entire life. The farthest west I've ever gone is St Louis, but ive still loved my life over here. But there is always something pulling me towards the west. The humongous sky or the endless ocean. Heaven on Earth. Beauty
Thank you for this. The elements of a good trip are less talk, more music and breathtaking views. This video had it all. Good job mate
You are an inspiration... I ride Guzzi V7 and people tell me I need bigger bike to go on very long trips.. thanks you for this great video, be safe
@caitmadethat on instagram just finished a 10k mile trip on a V7! Everytime that people tell me my bonneville is too small for touring I remind them that people have done coast to coast on ninja 250s and honda groms!
Lots of Honda Cubs have traversed continents. Vespas too.
The V7 will probably be my next bike. It's plenty of machine to travel. I've ridden from Estonia to Greece twice on a 310GS, so don't listen to the pessimists. They probably don't ride further than the coffee shop anyway.
Amazing. I've done a 10,000 mile trip as well and the emotions are wild. Your video is beautiful and personable, thoroughly enjoyed. What a journey, thank you for sharing it.
Ride on brother! thank you for sharing this amazing experience with us all. May your soul be forever free!
I can really feel the vibes😍🥺
The music, mountains, roads really satisfying 😍🥰
Thank you❤
